New York Comics has just opened their doors in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and it's just what this section…read moreof the neighborhood needed. Truth be told there are not many comics and collectible shops in Bay Ridge so a brand-new one is a welcome addition. They're located off of the main avenue thoroughfare on 79th and while the store itself is small, they are very well-stocked. As you walk in you see plenty of different lines of action figures and both recent and older back issue boxes of comic books from numerous companies. They also have some racks of cars, and higher priced books and slabbed editions are up on higher shelves. As it was opening day, there was candy everywhere to give you a sugar rush. They also had a wheel that you could spin with every purchase and there were some truly amazing prizes to be had. On the wheel I saw discounts on next purchase, back issues from assorted boxes and more. My purchase was a "Marvel Legends" action figure that I had been looking for and when I got to spin the wheel I won a slabbed "Batman" Annual #2. Oh yeah and for those who don't know the term, a "slabbed" edition means that the comic is in a sealed and graded plastic container and no longer readable. Having never owned one before I thought this was rather cool. My visit was shortly after lunch so it was rather crowded based on their doing opening day stuff and I was happy to see this being the case since I've known one of the owners for a couple of years. They are not even two minutes away from Skinflints which is another favorite of mine and if you're heading there you can pop into New York Comics afterwards. It's important to know that there are no new comics being sold at the store at this time but who knows if they change that practice at some point going forward. They wouldn't need to stock everything but with the recent relaunch of "Batman" selling a half million copies that's not a bad idea. I know I'll be popping in from time to time to see what's new and exciting and I hope that they will begin stocking some of the collected editions as well since I like those every once in awhile. Wishing New York Comics a thriving future. Get your geek on my friends.

Now, I do still pop in you know on a random Friday but usually just to buy a magnet or just random item like anime related stickers or mini photos or collectibles. They have a little bit of everything here from DC and Marvel Action Figures to rare WWE wrestling figures or Japanese Video Game related figures like from Street Fighter 2 * ( that is a a figure that is usually only available in Japan). The location itself is just a nice place mostly for nostolgia. The BLACK FRIDAY sale ( Day after Thanksgiving) is usually pretty impressive. NECA figures are generally avaiable here as well. ALSO, sometimes they have very rare T Shirts that you can get that are anime or Tv/Movie RELATED and usually alot of fun and something you can just purchase. I loved coming here for so many years and now I just can't quit the comic scene in general but now can't really spent a big portion of my weekly salary on these kinds of items but when I do visit, it feels like home and always does seem to put a smile on my face.
