I'd seen it on Yelp for quite a while, and the food in the photos looked really promising. Unfortunately, when we pulled up and saw the location, I had a feeling it wasn't going to live up to my expectations. I was hungry enough that I decided to give it a chance anyway. If you're coming strictly for the food, I'd probably skip it. But if you're looking for a casual spot to relax with a beer and grab a bite, it does the job. Although the meal wasn't what I had hoped for, I do think the kitchen made the best of the ingredients they had. My husband ordered the steak sandwich, and I was pleasantly surprised by how tender the meat was, even though it clearly wasn't an expensive cut. I ordered the French onion soup, which lacked depth of flavor, had very few onions, and the bread was really soggy. My Caesar salad, on the other hand, was dressed and tossed perfectly, but the dressing tasted like it came straight from a bottle. If they made their own dressing, or even used a higher-quality one, it could have been an excellent salad. Our server was friendly and attentive, though she didn't seem very familiar with food terminology. I asked whether the onion rings were made fresh or frozen, and she replied, "They always taste fresh when I've had them." That pretty much answered my question, I'm guessing they were frozen. Overall, it wasn't a satisfying meal for me. Then again, I came for the food. If your goal is simply to unwind with a drink and some casual bar food, you'll probably have a much better experience than I did.

It reminds me a time in the neighborhood when Irish folks were the majority and when times were so much more simple. This pub is low key, rarely crowded, somewhat easy to miss, and extremely local. The place reminds me a ton of the Courtyard Ale House in Sunnyside, from the exterior to the darkly lit interior with an intimate bar setup. They too had an outdoor setup during the pandemic. The bartenders are friendly enough and the clientele is a lot of older folks that drink alone. There are some TVs, which are as small as the pub itself. The drink selection is pretty basic with some bottled beer and some limited taps. Whether it's a glass of Stella or a pint of Guinness, it's what most of the place is often drinking. There are some TVs playing sports and no food that I'm aware of. The plus side is that the drinks are going to be affordable and there is vibe is the least pretentious in the area. If one is looking for a simple ambiance with a little sports and a lot of local vibes, The Dugout completely fits the bill. Indulge in the personalities and have a pint while playing something from their jukebox. If one is lucky, it might just be on a night where there's a little live music.

I am a sucker for this famous British/Irish deep fried goodness. Well, I can say without a doubt that this version is excellent (8.5/10) as described. The dish comes with three pieces that are crispy and tender. However, they gotta make a better tartar sauce than the ones they served in packets. Also, we switched out chips for onion rings. They were fantastic! I also really enjoyed their French Onion Soup (8/10) and the Shepherds Pie (7.5/10). The soup was flavorful without being too salty like most restaurants, while the pie had relatively fluffy mash potato with tasty ground beef mixture. The only item that was a slight letdown was the Chicken Pot Pie (6/10). The puff pastry was decent and so was the cream sauce. The problem was the overcooked and dry chicken breast meat. Our server was very friendly and always had a smile on her face. Btw, even though the space was basically a dive bar, the energetic 60's and 70's music was definitely a plus. Therefore, I gave it a slightly higher score for decor. All in all, this was a great experience.

And that is why I boycotted them. Everything was very lax at that time, with little enforcement from the SLA. In October, my partner and I headed back to try their Irish breakfast and to see how things had improved. At the time, a large party was being held in their backroom, and we were not prepared to wait forever. We asked to speak with the owner, Mike Peacock, and told him we had to be at church to ring the church bells. We appreciated his dedication to getting us our food on time, but to be really honest, the Irish breakfast was not the best that could have been made.

One thing we loved was that there were TVs everywhere, which was perfect because my husband and daughter wanted to keep up with one of the games while we ate. I started with a peach bellini, which was so refreshing and delicious. My husband ordered a beer cocktail (I can't remember the exact name), but it was so good he ended up having two! My youngest daughter ordered her favorite, a grilled cheese from the kids' menu, and my teenage daughter got the smash burger, which came topped with an egg and served with fries. The fries were thin, fresh, crispy, and absolutely delicious. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. It was huge and pretty good, although I would have liked a little more mayo or dressing on it. I chose onion rings as my side, and I have to say they were the best onion rings I've ever had--perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Definitely a 10/10! My husband ordered the balsamic glaze chicken wrap with sweet potato fries and really enjoyed it as well. It also looked like they have space in the back available for private parties, which is a nice option for events. Another thing I appreciated was the number of bathrooms available, including a family restroom. Of course, the girls couldn't leave without dessert! One got the lava cake and the other chose the churros, and both were happy with their choices. The waitresses were attentive, friendly, and checked on us regularly throughout our meal. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be back again!
