Whyyyyy is this food so good? Sometimes I want like real restaurant food and I'm like ugh I don't wanna drive and then I remember that down the block, Live Oak's food is literally on a huge-chain-restaurant level but even better because it's like a cute little bar/restaurant in the middle of Maspeth so it's really uniquely made and unprecedented. And FYI the wings (get them dry with sauce on the side) are soooo crispy and good and if you eat them with the fried ravioli you'll prob just die happy immediately. read more

I had quite a bit of time to kill while waiting for work to be done on my car at Pep Boys, and spent the better part of the day walking around the area. the house that three generations of my family is a few blocks away from here so I was somewhat familiar with the area but appreciated the chance to see more. The Live Oak was fairly quiet - maybe two or three other patrons - around 12:30 on a Sunday, and the air conditioning was much needed on an unexpectedly warm day. I had plenty of time and thus committed to just one beer, a refreshing and citrusy IPA (despite having mostly given up on IPAs lately). so far as food, the Irish curry chicken called to me. a spicy, brown, hot mess - which is equally applicable description of yours truly - of tender chicken and onions in a brown sauce, over steak fries. considering how much mileage I've been packing into my running schedule I decided to go all out and crush as much of it as possible. that massive lunch and a beer was just under $20. it's all of one big room, so I could see it getting packed. rarely in the neighborhood but would certainly come back! read more

Came here with friends for the first time. Pretty decent spot. Food is pretty good and drinks as well. Small local dive bar. Only thing I noticed is they kept serving people even after they've clearly had too much to drink, but hey people should know their limits. I would go back. I've had brunch and dinner here a couple of times with friends and it's never been disappointing. They have a good selection of typical bar food from pretzels and appetizer samples to full course meals. My personal favorite would have to be the Irish curry -- I get it with half rice and half fries and it's the best Irish curry I've had in the neighborhood. Bartenders are very courteous and friendly. I've had the unfortunate event of being present while there was a very rude patron and the bartender Kelly handled him calm and collectively. She's an amazing bartender and I find myself actually looking forward to seeing her tend bar when I visit this establishment. I love the overall friendly atmosphere here during the day and its potential to be a lively weekend bar. I've noticed that they sometimes have live music although I'm not sure if this is something that's scheduled every weekend or night. Check it out if your looking for something laid back and chill will good food! read more

Review is based on service and alcohol... Have not tried food. Service is amazing very concise very friendly. Wine is pretty good wine selection both red and white Wish they had different types of wine, like a more seasoned collection or everchanhing wine selection.... Too bad it's always the same... Spirits and alcohol same as every other Bar in the area, boring but workable. Rye whiskey and bourbon are hot right now why not add that to your bar... We order delivery from here and the food is SO good. The wings are some of the best I've had. Their burger is one of my husband's favorites. We never had a problem with cold or late food and they're always in point! We decided to stop in and have some drinks with food. Like always the food and drinks were both great. We got a table after waiting a little bit and the service was pretty fantastic until the waitress started running the bar, the tables, and cleaning up! I felt awful for her. She's was alone tending to everyone there. I'm not sure why they didn't have more staff or they left early. She was honestly a champ. read more

Went last night for the first time. The decor was nice and simple. We ordered, chicken fingers, fries, Guinness burger & fish & chips. The chicken fingers & fries were great, no complaints on fish & chips but the burger had a smell. I took 2 bites & couldn't eat it. It didn't smell spoiled. Just smell like meat. I will go back though, the margaritas were great. Glad I found something walking distance. The staff was very nice. My only complaint was the burger. read more

The outside of this bar is very nice looking. It seems like the owner put a lot of thought and effort into making this a nice establishment. Even the outside dining area was very well done. I would love to have The Live Oak be a bar I went to regularly. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. After several attempts of going to The Live Oak, myself, with my spouse and with friends, every single time the staff has been very unwelcoming to the point that it was apparent we weren't wanted there. It seems it was because we were not part of the "regular" patrons. But why wouldnt a business want new clientel? It beats me. Such a shame because my friends and I live in the area and would love a local bar to go to. Guess we have to find another spot. read more

This is a neighborhood bar, but not your typical neighborhood bar. This place is better and awesome, the bartenders are great and friendly, the drinks are always good, wings are amazing (i'm a wing girl) the food is also great. I have not tried everything on the menu but I've only had great experiences only. This review is for brunch. They have the potential to do so much better. There is no other brunch place nearby and the place is small but nice inside. The food just ok. They have a full Irish breakfast but the hash browns were not fully cooked. My husband ordered coffee and was not given any milk. We ordered mimosas and received screwdrivers. If the staff was trained better and they advertised for brunch they would do much better. I really hope they get better. I will be back in a few months and wrote a follow-up review. read more

I come for brunch with my friends at the beginning of every month. Sometimes throughout the weeks as well. We have have a good and the staff there is amazing. Very upbeat and cheerful. The food is delicious and I absolutely love everything they have. We always get mimosas, of course, delish! All of our food was extremely flavorful and cooked to perfection. The big screen is my fav, especially when there is a good game on. This is my local spot and its the perfect place to bring friends to for brunch, a goodnight out, or for just a few drinks. My husband and I are truly grateful to have such an amazing bar in our neighborhood. The service is excellent and super friendly. They have a great selection of seasonal draft beers. The food is amazing, and always fresh, their fries never get soggy. We love burgers, and chicken tenders. However, I have been dying to try their new summer special; crab cakes.
