I had a blast here on a random Sunday. The manager T is so cool. I couldn't believe she was 67 theres no sign of her being over 50 IMO. I appreciate that this place is cash only. When places are cash only its easier to budget. The bartender Keyshia was nice AF. Only 20 for 4 shots, 4 beers and one jack & coke in this economy, what a steal. Yes, the place is small but you can control the music. Theres an app for you to download. ::bathroom alert:: Super clean bano, the women's bathroom is further in the back. You can use the 1st bathroom but you can tell its more a men's room cause there's no door on the stall. Both bathrooms had a good amount of soap. There is a pool table area which is very chill. It's only $1 to play. Its definitely a place that the locals go to because of its size. I appreciate the bartender taking shots with customers, that was very fun. I love that you can play any songs you want. Of course I played some biggie and the bartender was rocking with me. Also you know bad bunny & Bieber were in rotation. Come here for that mom and pop feel. Bring cash or use their ATM. Definitely coming back because the manager birthday is the 30th. Very friendly people here, passed the vibe check. Nice warm place to visit in Astoria. You can play pool have drinks and enjoy great conversation. You also have the opportunity to enjoy the sports that is currently playing. The drinks are reasonably priced, the atmosphere is pleasant and the service is great. Sarah was absolutely wonderful she went absolutely above and beyond to make our experience wonderful. She remembered us from a previous visit and was more than accommodating. Stop in and give them a try. Remember parking is very limited as it is street parking. Talk about a throwback Irish dive bar. Holy cow. This place will bring you back! The bar has its regulars from all walks of life. The bartender was friendly, the music was great because we all just made requests and talked about different eras, and people came in and out and we all got along great. I normally never leave a review for anything. I stumbled into this place in a random Saturday around noon and had a fantastic time. The weekend bartender is funny, sociable and really brings life to this bar. Drinks were good and affordable, and the crowd of regulars were friendly than expected! Diviest of dive bars, for sure. We arrived and were told immediately that there are no fancy beers and only some basic cocktail options. The decorations were over the top of Christmas, and the bathroom felt like an old lady's private bathroom. Still, the bartender was funny and very New York. The bar is small, but it was full of regulars, most of whom are over 50, I'd say. I was blown away, though, by the $10 Maker's on the rocks. It was in the tiniest glass and only about a few sips. I can get way more for the same price at a bar downtown or some clubs. Nonetheless, Kelly's is definitely a special experience, and many fun times are had here. read more

Stopped in here with some friends before seeing a show at APAC. Everyone in the bar seemed to know one another so we got some glances when we walked in but soon it was business as usual (guess my friends and I aren't that interesting!) The bartender was delightful and very welcoming. We each had a beer or two (mass market brands that you'd expect..Bud, Stella, Corona) and we were on our way. This is the real deal The jukebox is a steal - its got all the staples for a good time drinking: Crue,GnR, & tons of other great Rock n Roll bands. The bartenders are funny & nice. I came across Kelly bar a couple of years ago and went pretty regularly for a while but have not had a chance to go back in the last couple months. It is a no frills local bar with a 1980s kitschy feel. But thats what makes it so fun! You will always see the same locals in there (most who seem to have been going for decades). The prices are cheap and the pours are generous. And they always have good bar snacks, like cheez-its :-). And there is a pool table! It always feels cozy and they decorate the place for any holiday that are coming up. Definitely worth a visit!! read more

My GF and I went Sat evening for the first time and really enjoyed the place. Very friendly staff (Reenie and Mojo), reasonable prices for Astoria and no Hipster beer which we appreciated. Kelly's bar is a real local bar and very welcoming to a group of artsy gays! We did a mini bar crawl for my friends birthday and they gave him a free shot! The bartender is so kind and thoughtful - he really took care of us. When we were outside sitting on the ground smoking (yes, when you're drunk and happy it's not so bad!) he brought us chairs! He even gave us gum after he let us eat our snacks at the bar. The drinks were strong and everyone was pleasant to talk to. Most of my group was an ex-Philly crew and we're all used to low-maintenance bars where you can shoot the shit with just about everyone and we felt like we were back home! Def going back. read more

I do like this spot. It's an older bar in the Astoria area and well known. It's kinda located on a corner which is mostly residential- it's down the block from Broadway where many bars are located. I guess I like the location because it's sorta hidden and it doesn't get too crowded, well unless they are having a band or an event- then it gets pretty crowded. The bartenders are great, everyone who goes there knows them and they all seem to be friendly with one another. The crowd that I normally see when I stop in- is an older crowd. They usually have a jukebox going and I usually see many people singing along to whatever is on. It's pretty cool when you walk in and see that, it really makes for a fun atmosphere. Drinks are strong and fairly priced and it's a pretty big place- don't let it fool you! When you walk in, it looks pretty small in the front by the bar, but to the back towards to left is another room which is much larger with a pool table, and there is also an outside area. I also really like the lights and decorations they always have going- it sparks it up a bit! I think it's a little more livelier on weekends for the most part but if you want to just stop in, relax and sit down with a drink, maybe talk with friends, I'd suggest coming during the week for sure :-) read more

Great dive bar. Small, but cozy with a juke box in the front and a pool table in the back. Wood tables and chairs all around. But, but no draft beer, and they serve cold bottles and cans of PBR, Bud, Bud Light, Michelob, Coors Light, Stella. No craft beers. But you come for the friendly bar tenders like Big Steve and Rhina. Don't know much about the grill part, though. Guys mostly here and everyone is friendly. Have a couple of brewskis and everyone will definitely know your name. This place was a little odd. Five of us (early 20's) walked in on a Friday night and felt very out of place. The few people in there were friendly enough, and we had some fun on the pool table around the back, but didn't stay past our first drink. There's nothing on tap, and bottles came to around $5 - they had Magners, Amstel Lite, Corona, that kind of thing. Definitely not a place for people in our age range though. read more

When I come in here to meet friends, I am always interrogated as to the purpose of my visit. I usually have to explain that I am meeting friends here for drinks, but this old time Irish bar, for me, is something I would avoid, not because they are an Irish bar, but due to their lack of hospitality. "Dive Bar" is a tired, often misplaced cliche these days that gets thrown around liberally. This is important to note in describing Kelly's--as this local Astoria bar is the embodiment and finest example of the true definition of a neighborhood dive bar. The place is phenomenal and came with lofty expectations after being talked up by my friends; it did not disappoint. We came very late on a Sunday night and were greeted at the door by a wise-cracking regular, jokingly demanding to see "license and registration" before laughing and telling us to get the hell inside. Once we got inside, there were only four patrons besides us who were all clearly regulars. The guy who let us in continued to crack jokes and bust our balls as we ordered some Budweisers and hit the jukebox. "Who the hell plays The Kinks, Roy Orbison, and then Slayer?!" he quipped. Each person, including the bartender, made it a point to learn our names within the first couple minutes and after that, you felt like one of the group. It was literally like I walked onto the set of a movie. To me, this joint is everything a watering hole should be, and everything that hipster bars in Brooklyn and Manhattan try to be but aren't. It's authentic and supremely rare; I've literally never been to a bar like this before and am thrilled it exists. If this bar were a person, it would be my best friend. Cold cheap Budweisers bottles, whiskey, a cast of characters, a bunch of laughs, and a great jukebox. If you can take a joke (and fire off a few yourself) and enjoy no-frills places where you can get to know new people, this is your spot. Can't wait to get back. read more

i am not big into the bar scene but if someone needs a wing man or wants to hang out at some local dive for a few hours or less then i am the friend they can rely on for company .kellys bar and grill on crescent ave is a typical no frills old school looking irish american dive bar that serves beer by the bottles and the full array of bottled booze . while my friends were sitting at the large wooden bar area drinking some buds and talking the useless gibberish , i was in the back shooting some pool with another pal of ours who also does not drink much but plays a mean game of billiards. i can hear music playing from the juke box which is cranking out some good rock tunes and the crowd is very civil and not loud like most bars i avoid to the max and its mostly a older mature crowd void of the loud douchey frat bro types .after a while i made my way to the front bar area and grabbed a stool near my boys who were enjoying the cool vibe and out of the blue i ordered a bottle of light beer which is not that pricey (i am paying for my group as always) and joined in the conversation which included the friendly bartender , my pals and a few guys who might be local regulars . overall kellys bar and grill was worth the visit . read more
