I came to Buka 2 about a week ago with my close friend who's Nigerian. I was genuinely excited to support a place that meant something to him--to experience his culture, to sit beside him and enjoy a meal together. I was also nervous, because I have Crohn's disease and can't eat spicy food. Like, at all. Not mild. Not a little kick. None. So I was very clear--twice--with the waitress: plain chicken, plantains, and if I had to order a full meal, I'd do fried rice. She said they didn't have fried rice. I asked if plain white rice would be okay. They didn't have that either. So I said fine, give me the jollof rice only if it's not spicy. And again, I made it clear--I cannot eat pepper. If it can't be made that way, I'm fine not eating. Instead of compassion, I was met with mockery. She laughed and said, "Why would he marry a woman who doesn't know his food?" and "How does he eat at home without spice?" I brushed it off, trying not to feel humiliated, even though her words cut deep. When the food came, his was perfect. Mine? The chicken was covered in a spicy stew, the jollof was fiery, and even the plantains were drenched in red sauce. I dipped one plantain in the stew to try it and immediately felt the burn. I drank all my water. Then his. It wasn't just uncomfortable--it was dangerous for my body. She came to ask how we liked the food. I calmly said, "He's enjoying his, but I can't eat mine. If I do, I'll end up in the hospital." She didn't apologize. She didn't offer to fix it. She brought a to-go box and walked away. I held it together at the table. I paid the $46 bill because this was my treat. He's new in town, and I wanted to make him feel at home. But as soon as I got to my car, I cried. I felt unseen, unimportant, and disrespected. All I asked for was safety and dignity while trying to support a place that should've welcomed me in. If your kitchen can't make something non-spicy, just say that. Don't pretend to accommodate and then serve something harmful. This wasn't just a bad experience--it was a painful one, emotionally and physically. read more

Buka 2 was my first experience in Nigerian cuisine and I keep going back for more. The food is so delicious and hospitality is excellent.

Taste: 5/5 Price: 2/5 Spending almost $40 on 2 plates is ridiculous especially for what was received. It's like they didn't have enough fried rice so they spread it out to fill the styrofoam container. I pushed the fried rice to one side there was ALOT of space left. The Jollof rice on the other hand seemed to be packed well. It's not nice to try and stiff the customers... just say you don't have enough. I doubt I'll be back. First time at this place, the food is absolutely tasty. I had the okra stew with fish, the food came in less than 30 minutes. The survey was absolutely lovely. The chef even came out to make sure that we enjoyed our food. I will absolutely be back I loved it. read more

Food isn't consistent seems like they may have different cooks. Its always good but sometimes its overly spicy.

I always get jollof rice, tilapia, and efo riro with pounded yam. It costs about $60 so I don't go often but I would every day if so could :) I was very happy to see they hired an American born server to get rid of the language barrier when ordering and picking up. read more

1. I walked in at 7:30 pm, the establishment closes at 8 pm. A waitress asks if I was dining in and I requested for dine-in after taking a 2 hr trip. 2. Our food comes out in to go containers and in a bag and she tells us they are closed and we can't eat here. I was not impressed with her customer service or communication skills. 3. Luckily, there was a kind gentleman there that made sure our orders were in separate bags. He displayed high quality customer service and for that I would maybe consider coming back. However, as my colleague proceeded to hand the gentleman with a tip, the young lady decides to exclaim "where is my tip". We proceeded to walk out and ignore her. All-in-all, I can't judge this place based on its food because we were kicked out, but I can say this one person placed a bad taste in my mouth to not return. read more

The owner was so rude to my husband that we vowed to never return. I really don't know who keeps these these people in business. Interesting atmosphere for lunch. My co-workers and I decided to go for Nigeria food and we were not disappointed. The service here was a bit slow but my Nigerian friend that's typical service in Nigeria. Atmosphere was dark and sketchy with an older out dated karaoke bar feel. 3.5* Food was on point to say the least. Being from Nigeria, I'm very familiar with how the food should taste. When you taste the food, you can tell it was made with love. In my head, if i was to peek in the back, there would be there's a gang of village women in the kitchen throwing down wearing nothing but Rapa (wrappers) and cooking all sorts of delicious things. I ordered the egusi stew with assorted meats and pounded yam and it was perfection. It actually came out rather quickly too. Like most international food restaurants, this place is family run. Service was slow because there was only one woman who tripled up as the hostess, waitress and busboy and there were about 5 full tables so she was extremely busy. We immediately sat down at the first table we saw which still had remnants from the previous guests. Because she was so busy, it took a while for her to come clean the table, then a while to bring the menus, then even longer to take the orders. But she acknowledged us with a big smile and "I'm sorry! I'll be right with you!" everytime she passed our table. For this extended wait, I had to deduct 1 star. Secondly, 2 of us actually ordered the egusi and efo riro (spinach stew) mix... she brought both of us just egusi stew. And when I told her, she said once the dish has been brought out, it can't go back. I thought this was pretty odd since it wasn't like I was changing my order, but correcting it. But she ended up bringing a small side of efo riro so I deducted .5 star. Definitely come here to eat delicious nigerian food, but don't come if you're in a rush. I believe you can call in your order and come pick it up. I saw the other patrons who came to pick up a large and she was there for at least 30 minutes. So I would definitely only come here if you have time to waste or the wait may actually ruin ur visit. Oh and last but not least, they have another pretty big space aside from the dining room which I believe doubles up as a lounge with music/dancing on certain nights. They also have hookah. read more

I was visiting Atlanta, went here to eat, the amala was hard as a rock & very cold like coming out from freezer, I told the server, the said he can warm it up, I told him it's not a warm up situation but give another food, he said the owner is not around. Terrible service, okay food. Worst catering service in the USA. I place a catering order and prepaid to be pick up the next day. Upon arriving to pick up, after waiting 20 minutes to be greeted, I was advised they didn't even start working on the order, "they forgot about the order, because the boss was not around". This is some of the best Nigerian food in the metro Atlanta area. I mainly come here for the Ayamase but it may be too hot if you're new to this food. You should start with stew with Jollof rice. You won't regret it. read more

Live in the DC metro and always in ATL every other month. Heard about place while taking to a friend and decided to check them out since I'm always looking for Nigerian food in any state I find myself. I bought the yam pottage for lunch and amala with efo riro with okro for dinner. I simply have found where to go once I get off my flight or where to go in case I get done and heading for the airport early. CS might need a little work but overall I cannot complain. No place is perfect. Keep up the good and heavily tasty food going! U sure cannot go wrong with that. Updates about this place as of today (27Jul2016). So Nigerian's can never stop missing the point. Stopped by this place on my way to my hotel to get something to eat + takeaway for dinner and got the dumbest service from the staff here along with the extremely unenlightened manager. Went in with a bottle of water u could not finish on my flight (20% of the full bottle by the way), sat down and ordered my food while thinking about what to order for dinner, waiter came back to me and told me I could not have my almost finished bottle of water with me. I requested to speak with the manager and expressed concerns over the situation making him understand the bottle is almost finished and I could not leave it in the car. The silly manager repeated the same thing his employees said and zoomed on to start talking about American restaurants. I explained to him that this had nothing to do with any American restaurant and that it was just nothing but a common sense issue (which he without a doubt lacks). Long story short, I asked him if that meant leaving the restaurant and he explained he was not telling me to leave but for health reasons (according to him) I could not drink the water there. Health reasons he said! Very funny I must say. I am a medical practitioner and never heard that one. Anyways, I walked out, called the manager to express my dissatisfaction about the situation again to him (he sure showed no remorse) and I will never return there again. Guess I will notify my ATL colleagues especially the friend that told me about the place. We need to get it right and apply some common sense situation by situation. Absolutely no reason telling me to take my water back into the car. I would have expected him to say "You can keep the water but going forward, we will not allow beverage (off course) or water in our restaurant". Too bad. read more
