We really enjoyed the hands on process of working with Elizabeth, our designer, who helped guide us through the entire process of creating our dream primary bathroom. We had a fair bit of back and forth throughout the design process but it resulted in some highly detailed and thorough design plans, which included realistic renderings, all the selected hardware and finishes, and overall layouts. We felt like we got great advice from Elizabeth, and she really listened to what kind of look and feel we were going for. We then got with Daniel, our project manager, who helped turn the plans we received into reality. He was also a pleasure to work with and always provided very clear project updates via text and phone. The teams he assembled for electrical, plumbing, and carpentry were all very professional and did great work. Daniel was also a great problem solver who was able to come up with clever solutions to any issues that came up. In summary, we are very happy owners of two completely new bathrooms spaces designed and built by the lovely team at Chi Renovation. We would highly recommend them for anyone looking for a remodel in the Chicago area.

We especially appreciated the unique elements incorporated into the design, like the wall-mounted faucets, recessed vanities, heated floors, and heated bidets--features that truly elevated both the look and comfort of our bathrooms. The team was excellent to work with from start to finish. Elizabeth, our designer, and Eric, our project manager, were both fantastic and communicated clearly throughout the entire process. Elizabeth helped bring our vision to life with thoughtful design choices and a great eye for the overall look and feel, while Eric kept everything running smoothly and on schedule. Our contractor, also named Eric, did very high-quality work, and it really shows in the finished product. Everyone we interacted with was professional, respectful, and clearly took pride in their work. Communication was consistent, and we always felt informed about what was happening next. The team's level of care and precision really stood out--they made sure everything was done right. The entire process, from design to construction to the final finishing touches, was smooth and well-managed. They helped guide us through design decisions without pressure, kept the project moving on schedule, and made sure the final result matched (and even exceeded) our expectations. This turned out to be a great recommendation! There were a few issues with the tub and toiler we got, but these were manufacturer issues and not anything caused by J&D. However, J&D corrected the issues immediately and went to bat for us with the manufacturer, so there were no costs incurred to us and only a very minor delay to our project. Overall, we'll definitely go back to J&D for future remodels and hope to work again with Lien in particular.

I did some cost comparison with a couple of the larger wholesale bath and kitchen retailers in Chicago, and the inventory at J&D was more what I was looking for and best value. Lien was very patient with my MANY questions, I was trying to recreate an image from a brochure. Having never done a project like this, I was extremely nervous. The resulting vanity, top, and faucet, is perfect. It's beautiful (even our guests were impressed), gave us more storage space and sturdy enough to serve as another station for toddler handwashing and morning tooth brushing.

It all made sense when I found that they have a design area upstairs. Downstairs they have various kitchen items and gadgets. An appointment is required to talk about cabinetry and get some estimates. I met with Marnie, and she was fantastic. I had Opinions on what I did and did not want and she seemed pleased with that and that I had actually done the research on the cabinetry options she'd sent, so I came in knowing precisely which ones I wanted. It definitely made the appointment go more quickly since I already knew which door styles and colors I was interested in. She talked with me about some of the technical aspects (e.g., framed vs. frameless vanities, top mount vs. under mount sinks, etc.) and they had various examples on display. They also had most of the door styles to have a better idea of what they'd look like. For the bathroom in which the vanity would be installed, the options here were more than we wanted to spend. I'd like to consider an update for the main bathroom, though, and would look to AKB for that job. The companies they work with have really beautiful products. Honestly, it makes me want to do more remodeling (main bathroom! Kitchen!) because wandering around the showroom made me want everything! I'm probably not quite that much of a masochist given the construction that would entail, but....

He repeatedly threatened to walk off the job when things didn't go his way, and eventually did--leaving the project unfinished halfway through construction. He even tried to discredit me by claiming I was yelling at his crew, despite the fact that I have video and audio recordings of him yelling and using profanity at me while I maintained politeness. I was left scrambling with tenants displaced in a hotel while he abandoned the work. Save yourself the stress and money--look elsewhere.

We packaged it up and drove it back to get a refund only for the toilet to drop while loading it onto the dolly at the store and shatter. The business STILL gave us a refund given the drop was not our fault. They truly went above and beyond. We will absolutely be purchasing from them again when we redo our four upstairs bathrooms if for no reason other than to recognize an ethical business.

That, along with a few other cautions, set our expectations before starting our project with Kitchen & Baths Unlimited. For my wife and me, however, the experience turned out very differently. We cannot say enough great things about Nancy (design), Owen (project management) and the entire team that meticulously executed the remodel. While I work from home and my wife commutes downtown, we decided to move forward with gutting and remodeling the vintage kitchen in our 100-year-old farmhouse in Evanston--and we couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. Yes, the demolition phase was a bit loud, as expected. But after that, the usual construction noise--hammering and drilling--was manageable. The team did an excellent job minimizing disruption: adjacent rooms were carefully sealed to contain dust, wood floors were protected with panels, and window treatments were wrapped in plastic. Design selections were also made easy thanks to Nancy, who guided us through choosing colors, cabinets, and countertops that matched our vision. The result is a beautiful transformation from a neglected, dingy farmhouse kitchen into a bright, modern farmhouse space. The Italian tile backsplash complements the quartz countertops with subtle veining. The lower cabinets are a soft gray, while the upper cabinets are white, creating a clean and balanced look. We also upgraded our appliances and fixtures, including LED ceiling lights, a Bosch microwave drawer, a professional KitchenAid range with a matching hood featuring an infrared sensor, and a modern stainless-steel farmhouse sink with a gentle bow. Despite an initial delay with the permit office due to a previously applied for permit that KBU helped us manage, the project stayed on schedule. We made a few minor upgrades along the way, but thanks to Owen and Nancy's guidance, we remained on time and within our overall budget. The KBU crew was professional, punctual, and highly skilled. Communication was seamless--especially since I was working from home--which helped address questions quickly and keep the project moving efficiently. In the end, we passed all inspections and received written approval from the village within a day. For us, this remodel was a great success. Thank you to Nancy, Owen, Patricia, Rade, and the entire team! You are the BEST!

I worked with Julie (designer), her team led by Jesus, and of course, owner Owen. Julie came up with ideas I hadn't even thought of and was able to convert an old, smaller space, into something that felt luxurious. Jesus and his team were super hard workers, pleasant to deal with, trustworthy, and highly efficient and knowledgeable. Everything was overseen frequently by Owen. I was really impressed with this place! I started researching cabinets and wanted nice cabinets but at a reasonable price...with a kid in college and another soon-to-go, our budget is limited. I went to the showroom to browse, and found the cabinet quality to be *AMAZING* for the cost. They have several kitchen displays so you can really get a good idea of what the cabinets are like. I was greeted by a nice and knowledgeable staff member (Ronnie Quinones) who helped me stay within my budget. He even gave me a tour of the shop - upstairs - where the cabinets are manufactured. I was very impressed by that...and it helps explain why they have such competitive/excellent prices. Ronnie even came out to do field measure prior to ordering the cabinets. This was not a big job - I ordered 9 cabinets - but I was made to feel that my order was the most important one they had ever received... Before making the final decision, I did some price comparisons at a couple home centers. I was floored when the total cost of the cabinets was less $ than the "10% off sale" on the better cabinets at Menards-and nobody does a field measure there (and although they do not charge for delivery, they only deliver to the street - it was well worth the delivery fee of $100 to have my cabinets delivered safely into my house!). I would also recommend that, if you do not have a true cabinet installer or carpenter on your job, that you allow them to recommend a cabinet installer. After a rocky start with my "all-in-one" contractor, Ronnie came out to the house again to make sure the job was smooth...I ended up having the cabinets installed by a real cabinet installer recommended by Ronnie and he was great. I would definitely order cabinets from these guys..they are very knowledgeable and professional and the bang for your buck cannot be beat! read more

After some serious water damage to my entire home in Ukrainian Village, I went to see 2 other kitchen designers before I found David Rodriguez over at Builders Cabinet Supply. I had a request to have the cabinets finished and delivered in 4 weeks. David told me he could meet my needs because Builders Cabinets Supply is not only a showroom but designs and builds all their cabinets on premises. No other cabinet designers I met could meet that guarantee. I also appreciated David's design skills. He was the only one that came up with a design that not only looked the best but would maximize all usable space. He spent time with me to draw up all my ideas and then showed me a few of his own that made sense. David came out to my house to double check all the measurements. I ordered the cabinets by putting half of the total amount down. The order was completed on the day it was promised which was approximately 4 weeks later. BCS delivered all cabinets and carried them all in the house. I had to make a few last minute changes which required extra filler pieces which I was able to get from David either the same day or next day. I would recommend Builders Cabinets Supply to anyone looking to order great cabinets with a fast turn around. I used Builders Cabinet Supply in 2007 as part of a major home remodeling project. I purchased cabinets for my: kitchen, finished basement, children's bathroom and also custom lockers for my laundry room. For the kitchen, I also purchased my Thermador range and refrigerator from Builders Cabinet Supply. The designer / salesperson Sarah was knowledgeable, flexible, friendly and professional throughout the entire process. No pressure-selling at all...with the EXTREMELY high quality and GREAT PRICING there is no reason for her to pressure clients. Sarah even made two trips to my home in the northern suburbs to be sure all the details were properly covered. She worked with my wife and I to make sure all the custom cabinets were well-suited to our kitchen. Everything was delivered on time and in perfect condition. The only item requiring attention was a broken hinge...which the company owner (Brian) personally delivered to my home and installed for me. The contractors even commented on the high quality during installation. All I can say is go there!! Go right now! It was the best place with the most knowledgeable and attentive people and made our whole kitchen design/remodel a really enjoyable experience. Our salesguy was Mike Falbo and he was awesome! He spent lots of time with us explaining door styles, finishes, handles, etc. When we told him our budget range he was able to provide plenty of gorgeous options so we didn't feel or look like we were planning a budget kitchen at all. He even came to our house and measured our kitchen and within days sent us some renderings so we could visualize everything and make any changes. I'm really glad I went with his recommendations because it really added some high end looking touches that I never would have thought about. My custom kitchen looks incredibly high end and I love it. Awful experience working with G&G and particularly the owner Ephrem. No big deal, easy 10 minute fix that Ephrem said he would take care of. I chased him down for EIGHT WEEKS to come fix it. Finally I was fed up and told Ephrem I was starting to get pissed, and he called me and BLEW UP at me. He started yelling at me and cussing me out, saying that 'he doesn't sit in front of a f**king computer all day like you do' and that 'you don't buy cabinets from f**king Home Depot, have someone install them incorrectly, then yell at Home Depot to come fix them". The burden was on him to fix, not my contractor because HIS team installed the doors, NOT my contractor. I asked him what the name of his company was and he literally said 'that's none of your business'. I was floored that I paid HIM, HIS guys made an error (a very small, easily fixable one), and HE promised to fix it, ignored my requests to come out, then I expressed my frustrations and HE yelled and cussed ME out. Shouldn't it have been the other way around? Is this how he treats all his customers? After eight weeks the door finally got fixed. I'm not suggesting anyone do or don't do business with him, but be mindful that if something needs fixing after the work is done he'll be very reluctant to help. *not sure why my profile says San Fran, I'm in Chicago.

Communication was excellent, and a few times, we did hire their contractor, who fixed problems or offered good solutions. This place is in a nondescript strip mall in Lincolnwood just outside Chicago, and I just happened to see it as I was driving home one day. I wanted to check out a few places so I added them to my list. Their hours are not super easy to work with, especially if you're a working individual, so you'll probably want to either make an appointment or contact them to confirm their hours for the day or week to make sure someone will be there. Marta helped me understand the cabinets that I might be able to choose from for my space, find something of a relatively inexpensive price point, and the countertop options for it as well. There were some hiccups. Communication leaves a lot to be desired. Even disregarding the Memorial Day holiday where there was no communication for about five days (I get it, people take time off plus their limited schedule), it was like pulling teeth to get information I needed--for instance, when I asked what they needed from me to get the job started, I got an email saying that they'd probably need a deposit. That was the full email--no instructions on how to provide one, when, etc. So I had to respond back to them to ask how to make a deposit to get the work done and it was several days before I got an email saying that I could bring a check (because apparently they do check only) during their very limited hours of 9:30-3. Oh, and to let them know when I was coming so that they'd actually be able to help me I guess. They intimated they take check only as payment, so I had to go during my workday to pay. I arrived 10 minutes after they opened--specifically after they told me they opened, because I asked via email for them to confirm their hours and that they'd be there since I needed to go during work--and no one was there when I arrived. So that was a bit annoying. Having said all that, I chose to work with them because they were by far the quickest option and reasonably priced. The townhome in which I live we hopefully will sell within the coming months, so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on this. Also, with my mom visiting in fewer than six weeks from the time I was looking, I needed the work to be done as immediately as possible. Kitchen & Bath Cabinets Center said they said it would be about two weeks. Given the cabinet place in my neighborhood said it would take five weeks just to get the cabinetry in--and then I'd have to find my own installers)--and not being able to really get much help from Studio41, this company was the clear choice. But if I wasn't worried about the timeframe (and planned to remain in the home longer than say a year), I may have gotten frustrated and gone elsewhere. Whilst this was all happening I was on the fence as to whether I'd recommend this contractor to someone else, and it would definitely have been with some caveats. However, now that the work is done I would recommend them as someone to check out knowing you'll need to have patience and be flexible. They did get it installed within a couple weeks, and it's absolutely beautiful work. They provided installation, which others didn't, so that was something that I didn't have to worry about finding separately (that alone may have tipped me to using them, to be honest). They also prepared the custom vent area that was necessary since there is a vent hole under where this unit was/is. They put on the cabinet pulls I'd purchased from Lowes, and would have done the plumbing but since I had a plumber coming anyway I preferred he take care of it. Now I just need to find someone to install the mirror that was once above the space and the bathroom will be all set.

From the beginning, John was a delight to work with. He offered suggestions based on his experience, but he listened carefully to what we wanted and never insisted that his approach was better unless he had good reason to do so. When he came to our place for a final review before committing to a definitive design, a design consultant with whom we have been working joined us and we had a wonderfully collaborative, highly productive brainstorming session. John got started almost as soon as we signed off on the project, was flexible with interim adjustments (which included a visit to his shop when the cabinets were mostly completed), and was done several weeks before our contractors were ready to begin the demolition. (The speed of completion was a bonus that we hadn't even appreciated at the beginning; we have friends who began a kitchen renovation after we did - unfortunately for them they didn't consult with us beforehand - and they won't have their cabinets until November!) John, his partner Steve and John's son came last week to install the cabinets, and they are exactly what we wanted, top quality materials, beautifully finished, built with pride.

We started with an idea of what we were looking to do. Didn't really know what was feasible or attainable with our space. Pete showed up, reviewed the space and dimensions, took notes on everything we were really looking to get out of the space. He didn't just take down the specific things we asked for but everything we were really hoping to be able to enjoy about the space once done. He sent over designs and reviewed them with us together, had no problem with the numerous adjustments we made along the way. Not just from things we wanted to change about them, but ideas he brought up that would work really well in the space as well. Much of which we didn't even know existed. Given this was going to be a massive update to our kitchen, den, laundry room and mud room; going in we were definitely anxious about how everything would ultimately play out. However Pete communicated the timeline, how it would all take place in which periods, and what to expect along the way. Everyone performing the brunt of the work our direct employees as well. The painters and flooring are from separate companies, but they're all friends and every one of them is friendly as can be. It was comforting knowing that the largest percentage of the work performed was by direct employees and not subcontracted help. Lastly, Pete's pricing structure is top notch. It is broken apart in multiple phases. Our's was a big job, so it was 5 chunks with the first roughly a third of the cost in the first chunk (not sure if that's how it works for all jobs, just our experience with this one). With the last 4 payments being paid AFTER each phase was completed. This form of payment breakdown is also the sign of a well established contractor that knows exactly what he can deliver and when, truly putting his money where his mouth is. We've already discussed other areas of the house we're looking to update in the near future and can't wait to see them come back. Thank you so much again Pete, Chris, Mike and Tim! P.S.
