Full disclosure: we did not end up going with Builder Boy, but we are writing this review because our experience with Jereme was excellent and we really appreciate the time he took to walk us through aspects of our project, and we benefitted from his advice and experience even just through the estimate process. Jereme is very thorough. He was responsive and communicative, took the time to carefully measure and even crawl under our house to check on the status of the foundation (part of the remodel was over a former porch that had been added on to the house years before we bought it, and we didn't know what kind of foundation they'd used). He caught oversights in the outside architect's plans that allowed us to avoid some potential major issues once we started construction. We ultimately chose another contractor, since we could only choose one, but we would have been very comfortable going with Builder Boy as well. We would certainly consider them in the future. I sincerely apologize to any business that has had issues with BuilderBoy because they agreed to do a project before seeing this delayed review. I own a business in a leasehold. Our renovation included new flooring, lighting, cabinetry, and construction of some new rooms. The project was a nightmare. I have attached a few photos of the workmanship. Sink not balanced, repeated bubbling up of the laminate, several cabinets had no holes for shelving, peeling of baseboards EVERYWHERE, incomplete painting, electrical outlets not installed correctly, very bad (unsafe) installation of countertops (see images). I also am researching whether certain aspects of the project where even properly completely as several parts of the HVAC were not even installed to the grids. Other clients, contractors, and another HVAC expert have commented on the quality of the work. The HVAC representative literally called it negligent as an intake was literally taking air from the ATTIC and not the inside of the building. Several years ago we needed to update part of our house for my mom to move in. Builder Boy came out and was able to give a fair estimate that took into consideration our timeline and budget. We needed to make a bathroom ADA compliant and we also had to widen doorways and put in a concrete ramp. All the project were completed on time and with great care. We were treated very respectfully and the work was excellent. It was so refreshing to be treated so kindly during the process. It can be overwhelming to take on home updates like this but they were there for us every step of the way and made themselves available whenever we had a question. read more

Terrible customer service. We made an appointment for 10am with Builder Boy and he showed up 3 minutes before 11am. We had another contractor scheduled at 11am and arrived early and was wrapping up anyway. This person from Builder Boy was very rude and assumed we double booked. He got mad that we met with another contractor, which is obscene. Would definitely NOT recommend due to this guys temper and petty attitude. If you're going to spend thousands on a contractor, they better put on a better attitude. read more

Builder boy remodeled our living room/kitchen In February 2021. I've waited a few months to leave this review as to see how the quality of work held up. I'll break my review up into a few different sections and rate each Request for quote process: 5 stars- Jereme was on top of it and super helpful and patient with us while we tried to decide between contractors and scope of work. His willingness to work with us was why we ultimately hired builder boy. Communication: 1 star Once the contract was signed, communication went downhill. We never heard or saw from Jereme again. Project was delayed a week. Project manager barely showed up to the site. I remember having to walk the team through the demo plans bc they had not even seen them bc PM never went over project with them. It continued to be an issue the entire project to get answers about timeline or schedule. Multiple days where no one showed or one guy showed up for ten minutes after we we were told that multiple teams would be arriving at 8am. Luckily we worked from home at the time but if I had to schedule my work schedule around them- I would have been fired. Labor: 2 stars There were a handful of great communicative contractors that worked on our house. We are grateful for them- they made up for the other lazy guys that were brought in. Drywallers covered up outlets for days after we repeatedly told them to make sure to open up the wall- ignored us and we have several patches bc they had to go back in and find them. Demo guys used our main water line as a stepping stool and busted the pipe and then lied to us and said a drywall board had fallen on it and then on top of that had no clue how to turn the water off. I've got security cameras so I know what happened and it was just a terrible experience. We didn't have to pay for that mistake but I don't appreciate the laziness or liars. Trash was left in the yard daily and we had to call multiple times to get someone out to take it away. Flooring: 3.5 stars The flooring installers had a rough job ahead of them- we had giant holes to be filled where chimneys used to be and new subfloor that needed to be laid. They were super efficient and did a great job. However they didn't account for swell and we had a hump in our floor two days in that they had to come back and fix. It's mostly fixed but we still feel it with temp changes. We went with LVL so it's floating and I get that it won't be perfect but their foundation fixes were not the right method to use before they put the floor down. Cabinetry 3 stars: The kitchen looks gorgeous all together. Just don't look too close or you will see the imperfections from construction and painting of the cabinets. After requesting multiple touch ups, we gave up asking bc they just couldn't fix the problems. The paint is already chipping, the doors are not aligned great. Measurements were off and have caused issues. Countertops 4 stars: The installers were great. I spent more money on the slabs then I wanted to but they are gorgeous so I asked for any leftovers so we could use them for other projects. Once again PM didn't inform them so we had to call multiple times to have them bring the leftovers. Exterior 3 stars: Nothing notable to mention here except the painters weren't professional and dripped paint all over the cement. Used my vegetable garden to clean their brushes. Just not professional at all. Overall: We will not be working with builder boy again. We ended up asking them to remove the "touch up/completion" portion of the invoice/work bc the follow up was so terrible and they didn't actually do any of the things they said would be included in touch ups. This Reno has turned us off from all contractors and we will be going back to doing large projects ourselves. I've seen some great reviews for this company and I've seen the work on other houses- I wish that we would have had the same experience. read more

Builder Boy - hit or miss - sadly, it was a miss. Why? Read on... * Missed start date - our project started a month after the expected finish date listed on the contract. * Mismanagement -Jeremy the owner did the estimate and we never, ever saw him again unlike what he states in his Yelp bio. Getting hold of him was extremely difficult. We only contacted him when things were unacceptable like when we had 1 week left on our contract and no demo work had been done or cabinet guy went MIA and the project manager was not returning texts and calls. When you did get hold of him, somehow, we (the client) were the problem. * Missing project manager - came by only a few times per month. You can't manage a remodeling project when you are not at the project site. For example, when the workers came to do the tear out, they said that hadn't seen the plans and wanted to know what should be torn out and what should be kept. That was a sign of things to come. We had to be home to make sure things were done right. This inadequate planning led to phases of the project being done out of sequence causing delays, redoes, and risk of damage to new appliances. * Mismeasurements of room size, cabinetry, island overhang for installing undercounter electrical outlets and number of tiles need by their interior designer, project manager and cabinet maker. * Missing cabinet maker and cabinet finisher. We started with 1 set of tradesmen (from the San Fernando Valley, not Long Beach where Builder boy is located) and ended up with another set (Inland Empire). Delays, delays, delays with no explanation from Builder Boy. * Missing customer service - throughout the project we felt that the customer was not the priority. * Misinformation o Were told that once our project was started, it would be worked on continuously o Per the signed contract, the project was to last 2-3 months - ended up taking almost a year to complete. o Signed up for Builder Boy as they advertised that cabinetry was done in house under their division "Cabinet Boy". However, we quickly saw that the majority of the workers were subcontractors (different business ids on their vehicles and shirts and the cabinet crews were from the San Fernando Valley, Riverside and Long Beach (2nd cabinet finisher) and yes, the driving distance and cost of gas was a big issue for these guys. o Based on their website and talking with the owner we were convinced that they knew how to build cabinets for high-end appliances. So many mistakes were made re: the location of electrical outlets, gas and water lines, and cabinetry size for the appliances that it took 3 tries for the appliances to be installed. Thankfully we had a really good salesperson from the Friedmans Appliance store in Long Beach who had to walk them through the install. Builder Boy did pay for the appliance installers to come back. o Subcontractors mismanagement. Managers for the electricians and cabinetry would confirm what you wanted - and they talked a good talk. Then the actual workers appeared without the manager and they didn't know what to do or did something different than was discussed. Heads up - I wouldn't allow 1 of their electricians to work on his own at the house as he made so many mistakes. Lessons Learned - * even though I checked the CA License Contractor websitehttps://www.cslb.ca.gov/findmylicensedcontractor and asked all the right questions, I failed to do a simple Google search "Lawsuit (Name of Contractor, Name of Company). * Keep a daily diary/log and use that Ring camera. You never know if you made need these in the future. * The cabinets were sprayed at the house without prior permission. That stuff is toxic and I had an allergic reaction that required 2 visits to health specialists. Make sure that the spraying of cabinetry is done at the shop. Summary - Our kitchen eventually turned out okay (except the island stain is wrong - long story there) but as the owners we had to micromanage this project including doing the research and design and double-checking work done. Cabinetry is key to a kitchen update and this was the biggest problem we had with Builder Boy. The good news is that Builder Boy did not go over the contract price and nothing was really damaged. They do use a project management software called Basecamp which I dutifully loaded all required documents. When folks use it, its great, but it's worthless when employees don't use it. Only the project manager and designer used it. Once the project is over, don't expect any assistance from them if things don't work correctly (like cabinetry and those soft close drawers). Sorry, we cannot recommend them. Midway through the project (when things were heading really south) I contacted another yelp reviewer and their experience was similar to ours. read more

Builder Boy did a full remodel for us from the kitchen, to both bathrooms, family room and living room. We could not be more happy with the results and the process. They were very communicative throughout the entire process and always responded to our questions. The whole crew was extremely friendly and as unobtrusive as can be in a full house remodel. My wife is very picky when it comes to her home and she could not have been happier with the end result. I had Builder Boy refinish the cabinets were n my kitchen. A few years later the paint in said cabinets began to chip away. I contacted Builder Boy to get their input on this problem. The person n the office said this has happened before and suggested I send pictures of the damage. I did so. She asked to come to my home and see the damage. She came and said she would speak to owner and get back to me. I stopped by their office to say all I wanted was some paint and sealer to repair the cabinets. They never got in touch with me. I have used Builder Boy on several projects over the years. Everything from indoor and outdoor painting, stucco repair, outdoor rain drainage systems, and drywall repair, Builder Boy has always been a reliable source for our family and all of our handyman/contracting needs. I find them to be an extremely professional operation that charges very reasonable rates and are very responsive. We have used Builder Boy/Painter Boy/Stucco Boy about 5 separate times for jobs at two different homes over the last 3 years. Jereme always will make an onsite visit to discuss the proposed work and will let tell you honestly that you don't need work in certain areas and always provides options for work that needs to be done. His demeanor is professional and easy to communicate with and never comes off in a sales-ie way. He is very knowledgeable and will always take the extra step to explain the details of the job and share his thoughts. I find his consultations to be very informative. Once the job commences, Jereme is always on hand to check on the status of the job and make sure that we are pleased and comfortable with the work being done. Even after the job, he normally will come back to look over everything himself. In one instance, he actually insisted on sending his team back to paint a wall even though the work they did had no impact on it.....He simply wanted the house to look as nice as possible. 5 stars, if I could I would give them 10. read more

We had a pretty poor experience with Builder Boy, and I wish I'd taken the time to read some of the negative reviews, as their experiences mirror ours. Overall, their communication and execution was subpar at best. Our issues were as follows: 1. Poor communication - The office would confirm a date with us, then no one would show up. They would not warn us, so we'd wait and wait for the workers, and no one would show. The office would not get back to us immediately after we called to inquire about their ETA. Then they would take longer than promised to get back to us with a new date, and this exact scenario would repeat all over again. So disrespectful of our time and schedules. How hard is it to call and reschedule? It was excuse after excuse, and they were pretty unapologetic about it. 2: The work we discussed was not all included in the contract and drawings, even after much discussion about it. So there is an obvious area that is missing cabinetry, right in between the rest of the cabinetry. We can take some responsibility for not reading the drawings accurately, but it would've been nice to have the work completed as discussed. We discussed the area in great detail on multiple occasions with both Jereme and their designer. We are not contractors. We are not well versed in CAD drawings, and it is an obvious area right in the middle of the rest of the cabinetry. Jereme also told us the work could be completed in a day (which I doubted from the get-go) when in fact it took much, much longer. 3: Most frustrating perhaps is that after repeatedly not coming back to paint, they sent us an invoice for immediate payment worded as "due upon cabinet install and paint". What a slap in the face to receive an invoice for incomplete work you're adamantly trying to get completed with little response from Builder Boy. They also insisted on payment for a final walk through and punch list (neither occurred or was provided to us). 4: They use subcontractors for most of their work, unsupervised (and no one from their office came by to check their work; they just invoiced us when it was completed), and there was little attention to detail. One of the upper cabinets did not fit, so they used a filler, which stuck out like a sore thumb. We really had to pressure them to come back and finish it so it looked acceptable. They had originally intended to leave it an unfinished eyesore. The positives in our experience were that the cabinets they installed are nice in quality, although our pull out cabinet wobbles, makes an awful sound, and functions poorly and will probably just need to be replaced. The workers were respectful and did not make a huge mess, which I really appreciated. It was not enough, however, to make me want to work with them or refer them ever again. read more

Had my house painted by Builder Boy. The painters were at my house at the time they said they would be. Were considerate about being safe during this pandemic. Took their time maticulously preparing exterior surfaces for paint as i was painting my eaves black with a slight sheen so all imperfections would show if not. I had my house stucco'd a couple of days prior to paint (cart before the horse) and i did not have one drip of paint on my white stucco. Builder Boy was very accomodating with change orders and Jeremy James the owner gave me really competitve pricing on premium materials.
