OH BOY, STUCCO BOY! I met with Jereme (the owner of Stucco Boy/Builder Boy) to discuss an exterior refinishing project. We've got some TEX-COTE that the prior owners added that is failing and in need of repair. To their credit, Jereme is knowledgeable about TEX-COTE and the company even has a landing page on their website describing how to fix a failing application. They offer services to repair and re-apply, and Jereme mentioned this would be an option for us, in addition to a more involved re-plastering. Jereme said he'd break out different options for us. Despite Jereme's demeanor coming off a bit slick and salesy, them being a local company with experience with TEX-COTE gave me some confidence. I received a proposal that I felt was reasonably priced. Before selecting the company for my project, I had some follow-up questions I asked the office staff via email regarding coordinating the project with other work being done-namely a re-roof project that I'd be undertaking. After a little back-and-forth, Jereme called me directly. I was able to ask my questions about coordination with the roofing company, and he put my mind at ease. He described how the roofing company would handle tear-off and paper the roof, and then Stucco Boy would come in and water blast and prep. He was pretty specific about his recommendations and that fully addressed my questions. He said that I'd be able to put them into contact with the roofer to work out the specifics and "when roofing companies hear that, they are relieved"-indicating to me that there'd be a proactive direct coordination that would help streamline the process. WONDERFUL! After receiving HOA approval for the project, I reached out to Builder Boy and said I'd like to proceed with them. I followed up with a few questions including one about timing and order of operations to coordinate with the roofing and solar to take place (roughly, at this point) in January. The responses I got from the office staff to my questions were different than what Jereme had indicated; instead of coordinating with the roofers, they said that it would be better for them to do their work after the roofers had completed. There was some back-and-forth where I tried to reconcile the differences in the office staff's answers/recommendations of doing work after everything else was done and what Jereme had indicated to me on our earlier phone call. Two days after not hearing anything back, I received a phone call from Jereme. He indicated to me that he'd heard from his team that I was "frustrated" and that I had taken an "aggressive tone" with his staff and he hoped to understand my frustration but also see if there was a path forward. He indicated that he cares about his staff; the implication he was stepping in to shield them from unfair treatment. I told him that I was confused, and asked if he'd read the emails-my hope was to ensure we were on the same page about what my issue actually was and for me to understand what about my correspondence was "aggressive." He replied he'd "skimmed" the email-so I asked him if I'd be able to read it to him--much of my confusion stemmed from what the office staff was suggesting and how it was much different than what Jereme had indicated regarding coordinating steps with the roofing company. He responded "I get it, you're a good guy" as if my primary intent in reading him the email to was somehow clear my name, and he followed up with "I'd rather not live in the past and instead just move forward." Wait, seriously?! You imply I'm mistreating your staff, you're only vaguely aware of what my issue actually is and when I attempt to talk in specific terms about either of those things you suddenly want to "move forward"? I tried to explain to Jereme the disconnect, and how the staff's recommendation wasn't what he and I had discussed earlier, so I was confused. He said "it can be done either way" and "it's up to the customer"- but kept insisting that his staff was correct in their suggestion without acknowledging it was different than what he himself earlier had suggested, and that was the source of my confusion. The whole time it felt like Jereme was trying to gaslight me, and whenever I tried to be specific about our conversation or clarify what my issue actually was, he'd deflect and say dismissively "it's up to you; just tell us when to show up and we'll be there." I was pretty floored at this point and couldn't shake the feeling that I was getting hustled by this guy. I knew that as he kept insisting he wanted to "move forward" without actually talking about the nature of the problem, it was a sign that this wasn't the kind of company, and Jereme the kind of person, I could trust. So I calmly told him that it was clear to me it wouldn't be a good fit, he said "OK," and that was the extent of my experience with Builder Boy. Stucco Boy was not able to do the repairs to my stucco because it was too small of a job. Jereme told me that they have a $4,500 minimum. Making an appointment for an estimate was easy and the communications were professional. Jereme was knowledgable, professional and looked at the water damage on my stucco and gave me good advice. I did not make false accusations. The employees at Stucco Boy at that time we're very honest and forthcoming. They were the ones that told me about that worker. This was mentioned at the arbitration and the arbitration never even came to see the job. That's why I do not believe in arbitration and will never use arbitration again. You can talk about me all you want but the bottom line people can come and see my home and they will judge for themselves. The work was very poorly done. The prep work is the foundation of good work and it was never properly done. You tried to fix the original first round of the stucco but were unable to fix the mess. That is what happened and so I left my phone number on my post so they would know I am telling the truth. The bottom line the job was poorly done, those are the facts. I have received two visitors from people that saw my post and they were thankful that I allowed them to come and see my home. I have used Builder Boy on several projects over the years. Everything from indoor and outdoor painting, stucco repair, outdoor rain drainage systems, and drywall repair, Builder Boy has always been a reliable source for our family and all of our handyman/contracting needs. I find them to be an extremely professional operation that charges very reasonable rates and are very responsive. We have used Builder Boy/Painter Boy/Stucco Boy about 5 separate times for jobs at two different homes over the last 3 years. Jereme always will make an onsite visit to discuss the proposed work and will let tell you honestly that you don't need work in certain areas and always provides options for work that needs to be done. His demeanor is professional and easy to communicate with and never comes off in a sales-ie way. He is very knowledgeable and will always take the extra step to explain the details of the job and share his thoughts. I find his consultations to be very informative. Once the job commences, Jereme is always on hand to check on the status of the job and make sure that we are pleased and comfortable with the work being done. Even after the job, he normally will come back to look over everything himself. In one instance, he actually insisted on sending his team back to paint a wall even though the work they did had no impact on it.....He simply wanted the house to look as nice as possible. 5 stars, if I could I would give them 10. read more

I called and reached a friendly voice who assured me that since it was an "office day" the team would be able to get me a quote by EOD. I emailed my pics and a summary right over. That was on 6/12. My emails were unanswered and I was forced to find an alternative plan. I should have heeded the other warnings on Yelp. One star for answering the phone and one star for giving me hope. If you are too busy or uninterested in the scope of the job it would be professional to decline. My SLAs are too strict to wait around. read more

I needed some stucco repair. Called 5/1/15. Spoke with Liz. She asked me to email pictures which I did the same day. She said Kenny would call me with a quote. No contact for three days so I called again. Liz assured me Kenny would contact me soon. Two weeks later 5/12, still no contact. Called Liz again. She said she would ask Kenny to call me that day. Nothing. Liz was very nice and friendly over the phone but it seems Kenny doesn't give a S*#@. If my job was too small for Stucco Boy to bother with then they should have just been upfront about it and told me. I'm going to give my business to someone else. UPDATE 5/20/15: Jordan Russell, the sales manager called me. He explained it was a miscommunication. He claimed they had quotes requests from two people named Wendy and Kenny contacted the other Wendy??? Coincidence or excuse, I don't know but it certainly could have been cleared up with a simple 60 second phone call. It was only after I posted this Yelp review that I finally got a call from BuilderBoy. I deal with customer service too and if a customer called my company and said they never received a quote from me, when I know I sent the quote, I'd pick up the phone and speak to the customer. I had a stucco job and paint job completed and each time the company was professional, easy to communicate with and have helped make the exterior of my home look better than the day I purchased it. I can't speak to their actual stucco workmanship, but this review is for their quoting processes or lack thereof. We requested a quote for a Stucco Retaining Wall with no special requirements as a way to build a professional relationship with Builder Boy back in Q4 2015. To present date, we haven't received anything besides a generic cover letter and a couple of marketing fliers. Follow-up phone calls yielded a return call promise, but nothing more. Having worked with contractors on many building projects, this is a red flag to consumers. A company that seems disinterested in new business may likely be poorly managed, incapable of meeting project deadlines, and/or lacks good business practices. Common sense would dictate that if you are too busy for new business, you politely decline the quote request. We received competitive quotes from other contract professionals within 5 business days. read more

Ran into a couple extras along the way as the weep screed was rusted out and needing replacment . Price was very fair. Jereme did a great job stuccoing part of my condo's exterior wall on my third floor unit in downtown Long Beach. I'd called 11 other contractors and no one would touch the 3rd-floor job because it required either a boom or scaffolding. Jereme saved the day by not only TAKING the job, but also by helping correctly rebuild the interior wall (prior to stuccoing the outside) and seeing to it that the bathroom window was reinstalled in a timely manner. I had some wood siding removed from my house. Stucco Boy removed the wood and matched my existing stucco perfectly. You would never know the wood was even there! I heard back from him about a month later saying he thought he had sent the estimate out but realized that he hadn't. I had several areas around my house where the stucco needed patching. We decided to install a few new windows in our home and in doing so we had to break out some of the stucco. Jereme and Kenny came out to take a look at my house and gave me some helpful information. They showed me where we did a good job on the windows installing them and where I didn't realize I had "compromised the weatherproofing" They fixed the weatherproofing issue at no extra charge. Similar to another review I can't speak to their actual work as I couldn't make it through the scheduling process. Shockingly their scheduling person doesn't know where Redondo Beach is which is hard to understand since their office is in Long Beach (according to mapquest 17 miles door to door). After trying for 10 minutes to explain where Redondo Beach is and going through Kenny's daily schedule for the next week and a half I gave up. Based on a conversation with Kenny it seems like they know what they are doing. However I have no interest in working with a company that makes even the simplest tasks painful and time consuming. read more
