I have not written a review in such a long time, but this company is definitely well deserving of a 5 star review, and any referrals I can possibly give. I was introduced to Matt through another company when my Cambridge condo had recent extensive water damage, causing somewhere between $40-50K in damages / repairs. I live in California now, and rent my condo out. Matt took all the stress off my plate. He was available right away, ALWAYS responsive in phone, text or email, and worked seamlessly with my insurance. Due to the damages, I had to have flooring and sub flooring taken out and reinstalled, walls opened up, repaired, new cabinets, new paint throughout the condo, reinstall a granite countertop, a new backsplash, along with electric and plumbing work...he took care of either doing or coordinating it all. He went above and beyond, with nothing going unnoticed. He came across many obstacles along the way, but would call me once there was a solution to the problem, or after it was already taken care of. Words cannot express the amazing experience I had with the Hamel Company! In January 2022, a pipe burst in my attic. The damage was so extensive, most of the walls, ceiling, and floors had to be replaced. I was tasked with finding a contractor - and was referred to Hamel by Mike from the mitigation company. Thanks to Mike I was introduced to Paul at the Hamel Company. He handled everything so professionally - what a pro - navigating through all the difficulties with the insurance claim, he guided me through the whole process. It was so stressful and I am doing this on my own. It was so calming to have such personable, wonderful people on my side. And speaking of wonderful people, my project manager, Daniel - went above and every step of the way. This whole process was outside my comfort zone and there was a lot of difficulty for me around getting payment for the job from insurance. But the saving grace in the process was Daniel and his crew. A while back we had an overflow in a second floor bathroom that leaked down to the kitchen. We brought in contractors to open the ceiling and dry it out and to do the finished work. About a year later, a crack opened in the ceiling where the work was done. To fix the crack and repaint the ceiling we brought in The Hamel Company. The owner, Nate Hamel, was involved in the project from beginning to end. His crew was in and out in about six hours, and they did extremely high quality work. After frozen pipes burst in our condo, we were in desperate need of a restoration company. Our first restoration company left us high and dry after doing a flood cut. It turns out that this company took on too much work after many homes were damaged in our area after a deep freeze We were happy to find Buildbak but were skeptical after our first experience. Paul met with us and explained the work to be done. He was very easy to communicate with and kept us up to date with all of the repair work. One month into moving into a new place, the worst happened. The water line off the fridge fell off and caused leak that damaged our second floor kitchen and first floor bedroom and garage. I am truly grateful for his knowledge through this process as well as keeping me informed along the way. Not only that, the work they did on the many spots in our home was flawless. Edward Hamel and his contractors were incredible!! We had flooding and water damage in our finished basement from a septic pipe failure. Ed came within 24 hours of our phone call and he had our estimate to the insurance adjuster within one day! His numbers matched the insurance quote for the repairs as he used the same estimate software. Their team of contractors took out the soaked drywall and all layers of the flooring. They installed new drywall, new baseboards, brand new flooring and painted the entire space. The drywall work was very involved as there are a lot of angles and corners. They finished the Entire job within 4-1/2 days and we had a brand new basement within a week of when our septic flood occurred. We cannot thank Ed and his contractors enough for getting our life back to normal after such an unexpected occurrence. read more

We had a fantastic experience with Matt and his team from Hamel Painters. We asked him to stop by on a Saturday morning to scope out the job in advance of closing on the property. Matt was on time, which was very much appreciated when our access to the place was going to be very limited that day. He did a quick walk-through with us and agreed to provide an estimate later that evening. We had just expected a short summary and a bottom-line number; however, we got much more than that. The job was detailed to the square foot and broker out by labor costs and materials, so we knew exactly where the costs were allocated. Being fairly green in this process, it was very much appreciated. We subsequently worked on the timing of the job, which was somewhat difficult to schedule due to our work commitments. Matt was patient with us, and even held the time we were hoping to have the job done for a couple extra days so that we could sort things out. This is in contrast with another company that came highly recommended to us that would tell as time was good one minute and then not the next. I understand that the service is (and should be) first come, first served; but getting more than a couple hours to respond to an email sent at night shouldn't be too much of an ask. Once we contracted with Matt, he came over and reviewed the job and the colors we selected - making sure we were not our own worst enemy with our choices. The job was quite extensive, and Matt's team worked both nights and weekends to keep on schedule. We didn't ask for this, they volunteered since we had not moved in yet. During the job, we even added a couple of rooms, which Matt and the team agreed to take on and even keep on schedule. These additions, as well as some recommendations (clear coat for ceiling medallions and changing the color of the molding) amounted to a sizable undertaking - one we are glad we hired Hamel Painters to do! Now, all of this is meaningless if the two most important factors - quality of work and cost - were not up to par. While this was my first experience with hiring painters, my wife has done it before. She stated that the quality of Hamel Painter's work was unquestionably better than her past experiences, citing the fact that they sanded down parts to make sure darker areas didn't show through paint. Additionally, given the size of the job, the cost seemed reasonable to both of us. All in all, we thought Hamel Painters did a great job. By far the best contractors I've dealt with in Boston. Responded the next day to our request via their website and visited our place that weekend. Without being pushy or salesman-y, Matt helped us understand our options -- from paint type to fixing walls to painting moulding and door frames. The next day, he emailed us with a super detailed invoice that we were at our liberty to add/subtract from. Matt is incredibly knowledgeable about his profession and it's clear he's passionate about painting and the quality of his company's work, which was very refreshing. His crew was equally friendly, efficient, and respectful of our belongings. In terms of the project, we had 3 rooms done, one with 12 ft ceilings. They fixed countless dings and cracks and gave new life to our 100 yr old molding and ceiling medallion. It took them three days to complete, and it was a huge project as we opted to refinish the walls, paint the ceilings, spray the moulding, and paint all trim. A few side notes: - They definitely cost more than college kids you pay to roll on some Home Depot paint, but you will definitely get more than your money's worth if/when you sell - On that point, they only use Benjamin Moore paint, so don't bother trying out colors from Home Depot! I can highly recommend Hamel Painters. The estimate was very detailed (digitally measured), the work started as scheduled, and the paint job was excellent. In addition to painting some larger rooms, we had many smaller, detail oriented things that needed to be patched and painted, and the team did the work to perfection. They worked hard and really hustled to get the work done. Customer service and responsiveness is of paramount importance to Matt and his team. When installers subsequently damaged one of our walls installing a washing machine, Matt was incredibly responsive and sent one of the painters back to repair the damaged wall. They came out and gave a very thorough estimate compared to the other painters we got bids from. Measuring all of our rooms they were able to give us a detailed plan of what they would be doing. They were also able to work with our tight time frame due to your fiscal year closing. When they came, they were quick and professional. They encountered a stumbling block when painting the trim. I am a Realtor and deal with contractors on a daily basis and I can honestly say it is rare to find someone as responsive, thorough and reliable. Matt and his team repainted our entire house in North Cambridge, including resurfacing our textured "popcorn" ceilings-a huge job! They also installed new hardwoods on the second floor and refinished the floors throughout. If I could give a hundred thousand stars for Paul at The Hamel Company, that wouldn't be enough to mark the appreciation, respect and gratitude for the miracles he and his crews accomplished after the horrible flood in our  building (due to a pipe that burst on the fourth floor... the fire department arrived but were unable to locate the shut-off valve and so the water continued to pour into many of the condo units here for some time). Needless to say, it was a horrifying and miserable event and without kitchens or electricity and with all the water damage, most of the residents had to be moved to a hotel for more than three months. Every one of the crews who came in to do the repair work were top notch. They were efficient, experienced and respectful. We marveled at how many hours they worked here each day- taking only a short lunch break and never "shooting the breeze" or wasting work time.  They attended to even the smallest detail with thought and precision. Paul himself was AMAZING. I can't even count the times I texted him -it was definitely in the hundreds and maybe even into the thousands?! - and he responded within minutes every single time. He certainly became more than the Project Manager at Hamel Construction, but a therapist for those of us who had been traumatized by what had happened. He was always calm and totally reassuring throughout the entire ordeal. He came through on his promises and was diplomatic and caring. He was empathetic - he KNEW how difficult it was for all of us to lose many of our belongings and our residences especially during the cold winter months. I am a home birth midwife  - my work is intense, full of responsibility and unpredictability - but, as I told Paul, I would NEVER want to do what  he does - it makes my work look like petting bunnies. When all the floors and ceilings and walls were gone, when there were no lights or walls and the place was filled with dust and debris, I could not imagine how in the world this would be returned to normal. I was initially dealing with another Company, ATI, that was recommended to me by my Insurance company. However, it was very non-responsive so I started looking elsewhere. We needed repair work done for walls, window moldings, baseboard due to damages from last winter's ice dam and burst pipe. Additionally, we also need to repair water stains in texture ceiling of family room. Ed's crew did a great job and finished in a day. They were gone by the time I came home from work. I saw some minor issues (i.e. some spots needed more paint, slight crack on wall still visible) in the daylight the next day and brought them to Ed's attention. He had his crew back the following week to fix them. Ed is organized , a good communicator, and follows up with the customer. These guys were great right from the start. I live in an old home and was concerned about painting over oil with latex etc. I was unsure what was underneath either way as the house is 90 years old and I have only been in it for 10. Nate seemed to know everything a person could know with regards to paint and how and when it should be applied. His crew was very professional and always left the worksite clean. They were fast too. We hired Hamel Painters to paint our new home this summer. Timing was very important for us, because we had a few days in our old home after we closed on the new one, and we wanted most of the painting to be done during this period, before we moved in. To complicate matters the seller refused to let us come in to the new place with Nate prior to closing, so he was unable to do a walk through to provide estimates. In the end, Nate reviewed our floor plans and actually gave us pretty accurate estimates based on them. Only very minor adjustments made after he had a chance to look at the rooms in person - which he did hours after we closed. Painting started literally two days after, and his crew was extremely swift, hardworking and professional. They made sure they completed all the critical rooms first, and even though they had a few days of work after we moved in, they made sure they left the place spotless at the end of the day - papering all surfaces and being extremely mindful of our child and dog too.
