I called Sam with my air quality problem and he responded immediately. When I told him what my problem was and how stressed out I was over it he came the same day. After talking to him and telling him my situation he started testing all my rooms and said I would be getting a detailed report in the next couple of days. I got the report the next day. Wanted to get environmental testing done in addition to traditional home inspection prior to home purchase. Sam was very friendly on the phone and flexible with scheduling. On the day of the actual inspection I had buyer and seller agent waiting to make sure we could get it done at 8:00am. At 8:10 called Joe and he kept on saying traffic was bad, it did not sound like he was even in the car. At 8:38 he texted me saying he is up against his next job, traffic is bad and we need to go re-schedule as he is not sure when he will get in. He knew appt was at 8am, he knew there will be traffic coming into the city and made 3 people wait. Absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. I would give 0 stars if I could. When I called Sam he immediately picked up. My questions were: Can you help us determine causes of water incursion and then determine the next steps in mitigation the problem? He said yes, but this has not happened. Sam came over within an hour on a Sunday. He then charged us $460 to tell us to replace our sump pump. Supposedly he took samples for tests and that we would have results in 24 hrs. I still don't have results 10 day's later. He also did not provide an invoice for services. I have called the office everyday to no avail. Paula has said she'd return my phone calls and follow up with Sam and never once have I gotten any information from her. Integrity. Sam Cohen, the owner, has it. After setting up a time for Envirotest to assess whether or not we have a mold problem, I almost made the mistake of cancelling. Reason: They do remediation, too, and I was concerned that they might find problems that didn't need fixing but insist they did. However, Yelp reviews kept my suspicions at bay, and I'm glad they did. Checking all over, including the attic, Sam didn't find serious mold, but he did identify problems with our gutters, leading to backsplash that seeped under the clapboards. He referred me to a gutter specialist, who should be able to address the issue. Sam says that any problems probably should disappear one to three weeks after the exterior of the house is handled. This is an update to my previous review. I called Envirotest to do a mold inspection right after I signed on my new house, to figure out what I needed to do before moving in. He gave me a thorough and detailed report, including detailed steps for remediation. Unfortunately, the report came several weeks late due to a mixup which could have been prevented. This review is not for the quality of their work as I did not have work done. It is for the honesty of the gentleman, Sam, that I just spoke to. I was gifted a dining room set by my grandmother and, long story short, it developed mold on the legs of the chairs and the bottom of the table. My wife gave me an ultimatum - either we throw it out, or, we get it cleaned professionally. Just got off the phone with Sam and explained the situation. He told me to save my money, go to Home Depot and clean it with Murphy's Oil Soap. He insisted I would be throwing my money away and that Murphy's Oil Soap would be just as effective. The owner of this business was in my home in March 2024 performing an air quality test after some of my bloodwork came back indicating that I was being exposed to elevated levels of just one type of mold out of a possible few common ones that were also tested for. The owner did accurately point out that I had multiple dry p-traps, which I was aware could be problematic, but had inadvertently overlooked (and have since rectified!). The owner's suggestion that mold from the empty p-traps was the primary culprit impacting my abnormal bloodwork results does not, however, seem to be a reasonable one to me. The primary concern being, why would only one type of common mold be implicated in my bloodwork if the presumption was that the culprit mold was emanating from the dry p-traps (i.e. I'm questioning the likelihood that only one type of mold was present in the p-traps exclusive of all other common types of mold being present at at least similar levels, concurrently if we are talking about at least two different p-traps). I off-handedly probed about the likelihood that the carpet could be harboring the mold instead, but the owner did not engage in that discussion, and offered no opinion. To my knowledge, no test either of the pipes nor any other surface was performed to experimentally narrow the source of the mold down. To be fair, I was not the one that put in the actual requisition, therefore I do not know if this sort of surface testing was included. The owner did perform the air quality testing that I do know was requisitioned, according to reasonable expectations. Something I did not anticipate was that, when the report came back, there were some very interesting remarks made that have little or seemingly nothing to do with finding the primary (or even potential secondary) source(s) of the mold. Some of the remarks that were made seemed to revolve around the fact that: a) the owner did not like being in a cluttered home, with unpacked storage boxes present; b) the owner has never been a cat parent and does not know the norms of litter box placement in a multi floor home (i.e. 1 box per cat per floor + 1 box); and c) has never lived with a chronic health condition that substantially limits all life activities. Finally, the most alarming part of the interaction came when the owner declared an opinion as fact about what might be an undisclosed added constituent of a plugin "air freshener", which was seemingly based on zero evidence (while concurrently maligning a whole country and its people). The primary thing that has influenced my rating decision is that while offering this conjecture, the owner spoke to me with the presumption that the owner has substantially more knowledge on the topic of chemicals than I do, without probing what my level of knowledge might be (i.e. a very unpleasant experience uncommonly referred to as "homsplaining", as I am intentionally not writing the gendered version of this word). Little does the owner know that I have a post-PhD level of chemistry knowledge. Furthermore, I find it very difficult to believe the owner has direct access to a GC-MS, an NMR spectrometer, or any other piece of instrumentation that could be employed to investigate and identify the constituents of the "air freshener" solution to provide evidence to support the expressed opinion. I would summarize my takeaway from my interaction with the owner as at least mildly misogynistic and mildly xenophobic with unsubstantiated conjecture peddled as fact. (As an aside, my "air fresheners" as the owner called them are actually solutions of a commonly purchased cat pheromone being used therapeutically in an effort to calm my cat's anxiety. I needed them left in place since my 2nd cat abruptly died less than 3 weeks from the time of the appointment from what was likely a "ruptured tumor" according to the vet ER MD, and my remaining resident cat was displaying common signs of distress from the abrupt absence of her feline companion. I'll pose the following rhetorical question: If the owner didn't even know what the product was that was being claimed as adulterated, how could there possibly be any knowledge of the constituents of that solution by the owner?). I am not equipped to assess if the owner harbors the extensive knowledge on the topics that are claimed, but I would suggest proceeding with caution on any non evidence-based opinions offered. read more

I cannot recommend this company enough. Sam and his team are truly unbelievable. Sam is beyond knowledgeable on everything mold, lead asbestos and more. He clearly explains everything that's going on in ways that I could easily understand. He helped calm me down on many occasions when I got anxious unnecessarily. When I had a mold issue he was quick to get everything lined up for me and the work done well. He always makes himself available to chat and I ask one million questions and he is so very patient. Sam is so knowledgeable! Our daughter skin was being irritated by something, but I couldn't figure out what. Using his bag of tools, he was able to identify several sources of mold, as well as a few cleaning products that were responsible for causing the rashes. I found this firm via a Google search. I needed a sample tested for Asbestos. I called and spoke to a nice woman who said to bring the sample in. I showed up an hour later and there was nobody there. Undeterred, a few days later I called again and told them I was on my way. I was greeted by a nice woman who took my sample and said I would be emailed the results the next day. I had a check in hand and offered to pay on the spot with it or with a credit card. She smiled and said "no need, we'll send the results by email tomorrow and then send you an invoice that you can pay at that time." I asked her if she was sure, and she said "yes. It's easier that way." So here I am 5 days later with no result. I called the office and a woman named Jean informed me that she had my results but could not release them until I paid. I told her I was not comfortable giving my credit card # over the phone to her (she was rude), and relayed what the other person had said. At the point she accused me of lying about what happened. I asked to speak to the owner, to which she said the woman who said I could be billed was the owner and no I couldn't talk to her and she was unwilling to contact her for me. I asked Jean to take a message and have her call me back, and she said she would not do that since I was making up what happened. I then told her that if I didn't hear from the owner today I would post about this on Yelp. She told me she was done talking to me. Beware! Update after 8 days.... I was able to reach the owner and he made things right, sort of, so I moved it from 1 star to 2. However I was only able to reach the owner by calling him directly (it was a man, not a woman) myself (I did some sleuthing). Thy excuse given by the office that the owner was unavailable that day was apparently not true. He called me back and told me I'd have my results the next day. 3 days later they arrived. Sam was great! I just bought a house (my first one). I emailed the company to check for mold and asbestos and within a couple of hours he got right back to me and set up a time for the same day. He is super knowledgeable and eager to share what he knows. We went through the entire house and he pointed out the mold, but he also showed me were there had been water damage in the past, we looked at my roof line he showed me where there had been ice dams, he moved my dehumidifier from the wrong location to the correct one (and then checked in to make sure it was working--and it wasn't--hence the mold). He went through the house with me explaining everything he was testing, and what I could do to improve the house. At the end of the inspection he wrote a report with recommendations and tips on how to properly care for the house. He even checked in a few days later on how things were going with my basement. In short--Sam is friendly and knowledgeable . He provides a thorough inspection, explains everything clearly, and follows up with clients. Cost of service is a bargain ( I had him test for mold and asbestos and the price for Sam's service was cheaper than a recommended company that only tests for mold.) read more
