As a first-time homebuyer, I freaked out when my home inspection flagged the attic and unfinished basement as worth a consultation with a mold professional (water discoloration in some areas, visible mold on two beams in the basement). Bob was a bit hard to get ahold of at first, but he's in demand and working jobs with his team. We scheduled a free consultation the day after my closing, and he was flexible in moving it up a week earlier when that option opened up. Bob arrived exactly on time and started with the attic. He was able to assure me that the water discoloration didn't look to stem from active leaks, and his services wouldn't be needed in that space. He did recommend adding better ventilation through the MassSave audit program. We then went to the basement where Bob reached a similar conclusion. For the two beams with visible mold, he said that the issue wasn't severe enough to warrant a professional's assistance, and that I could clean it myself. I really appreciated how Bob took the time to evaluate my new home even though the outcome was that I wouldn't be hiring him. The best part? As we were leaving through the finished basement, Bob noticed some suspect bubbling on a newly painted wall. He pulled out his moisture meter and was able to determine that many segments of the wall were at 100% saturation. It's likely that the recent heavy rain and removal of the dehumidifier while the house has been unoccupied resulted in this issue, which would have otherwise gone unnoticed until closing. Bob was able to recommend some initial moves that we could take (redirect gutters, run dehumidifier and fans in the space, etc) before ripping things apart. I never met Bob until I called him to give me a quote on mold in my attic. Almost made a big mistake by at first rejecting him as his price was so much lower than all the others. I found out that the others quoted both new and old sections of my attic. Bob found mold only in the old section and quoted me almost half the price of the others. Bob took the time to fully investigate the entire attic and explain everything, the others just stuck their head up through the stair opening. I contacted Bob for a professional opinion regarding mold on my bathroom ceiling. Though I know it wasn't a health concern at the time, my apartment is extremely small with no air circulation so I was very concerned about it being removed properly. Bob came out the very next day to inspect my bathroom and gave me his honest opinion. Later that day as he promised, he sent me a professional proposal with problem, the exact steps he would take to remove the mold and an extremely reasonable quote for all the work he was offering. (Especially in a non ac'd apartment in the mid summer!). When I asked Bob when he was available to do the job - he said even in a couple of business days. I had to wait a week or two unfortunately, but Bob remembered and sent me an email to confirm before I did! While selling our condo in Boston, the home inspection turned up some mold in our attic by the air conditioning unit. I searched Yelp for a mold expert and came across Bob at BGS. He was fabulous to work with from start to finish. He promptly came over to give an estimate and was helpful in explaining the process he'd recommend. He sent his estimate by email quickly, it seemed reasonable, and it was easy to schedule the work. (That alone can be the hardest part with jobs like this.) In talking with Bob, it's clear that he goes the extra step to do things the "right" way. For instance, he put plastic sheeting down on the floors throughout the house as the chemicals/materials they use can get on the bottom of their shoes and get tracked around. He also left some high power blowers running overnight to make sure everything was dried and aired out, and then came back to get them the next day and ensure that the mold was fully remediated. At the end of the job, he provided a certificate of remediation that our buyers needed. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and I'd definitely recommend Bob. We had a leak and leaks sometimes cause mold. The plumber told me there was no leak, and I believed the guy...until Bob arrived and *fixed the leak*. "That's free of charge," he said. How the plumber missed it, I'll never know. They wiped down every surface multiple times, discarded materials too far-gone, and sealed and protected the remaining surfaces. Also, they took photos of the entire process that they're giving to me. I'm honestly shocked at just how clean the area is now. And it happened quickly; only took them four hours. I hope I never need to call anybody to deal with mold again, but if I do, it'll be Bob. He said that if we wanted, he could easily charge us $1K to do it and try and make us feel better but he's not that kind of guy. He sure isn't. Though Bob and BGS are more so focus on mold remediation, they had the resources to clean a sewage backup contained in our small bathroom. Bob and BGS is by the far most helpful, reasonably priced, and above-and-beyond company I've worked with. Bob was able to come same day I called and was even able to slot me in the following morning. Bob was patient and answered all the questions I had. Bob worked with us to cut down cost and made sure to price us for the services we actually needed. Bob and team finished earlier than they the already short time frame they gave us and even stayed an extra 20 minutes to clean the debris in the surrounding area. I found good ratings in the Yelp for BGS and decided to go with them for a quote. Bob was very professional, returned my call promptly and scheduled an appointment to visit our place the same week. Bob and his team reached our home to provide the estimate on the schedule appointment time. Bob was honest with this opinion - We had mold in the basement near washer and dryer unit and in the Attic. Bob is probably the best small business owner I have dealt with in years. I hired Bob to remove mold from my attic nearly a year ago. Bob and his team did a great job, were very professional, did a great job removing the mold and left the attic immaculate. Recently, I went to the attic and discovered fine powder throughout the attic. I had no idea what it was, I googled the topic and could not find a thing. I figured I would check with Bob to see if he had any idea. I called him on a Thursday and left a message explaining he did work for me a year ago and wanted to get his thoughts on what might be causing this fine powder in the attic. He called me later in the day and said he had no idea what would have caused the powder. He said he was probably the last person in the attic so maybe it was connected to his work. He asked if he could come down (his business is probably 30 minutes away) later in the week. I let him know I would be around Saturday but it was a long weekend; he asked if he could come down at 10:00am. He arrived at 9:55am on Saturday. I thanked him for taking the time over the holiday weekend to revisit this project and acting so promptly. He said, "My word is my bond." He said he wanted to make sure it was not connected to his work and, more importantly, get the issue remedied. Bob inspected the attic and said he had never seen a dusting from his work like this - he again noted, however, that he was probably the last person in the attic so he wanted to check with the manufacturer of the solution he used. He let me know he would call back Tuesday night because the manufacturer was in Chicago and Monday was a holiday. He called back on Tuesday afternoon and learned from the manufacturer that the only thing they thought might have happened was, because the house is 150 years old, the wood had hardened so much the solution did not penetrate as designed. Then, over time, the solution flaked off because it was sitting on the surface. Bob asked if he could come down to clean up the dusting and retreat the surface. He came down that Friday, cleaned everything up and retreated the surface with a different solution. Bob said to keep an eye on the attic and make sure the problem does not reoccur and, if there are any problems, to let him know and he will not be satisfied until I am completely satisfied. I really cannot say enough about Bob and his team. He is really an "old school" small business owner. He never attempted to make excuses, say it had been too long, etc. He wanted to make sure the job was done right more than I did, really! I cannot commend him enough. BGS saved me thousands of dollars. We contacted them in the process of purchasing our home when the home inspector found mold in the attic. During the free estimate the following day Bob found asbestos which was outside the scope of services they provided (ie not an upsale) and jeopardized whether they would get the contract if we chose not to pursue the property. Long story short, the sellers mitigated the asbestos and BGS did the mold remediation. They use of a unique process where they destroy the mold and then scrub the surface to completely remove it rather than cover it with paint.They were reasonably priced, were professional and responsive and did a great job. I am long overdue in writing this, but I would highly recommend Bob and his team. I bought a house that had a lot of question marks - one of the biggest was the condition of the attic. There had been a fire in the attic at some point and a white mold had covered about 3/4 of the attic.
