My son likes buffets so I read up the reviews on this one. I agree completely the establishment is kept very clean. For that reason alone I will come back. The selection is like 4 of 5 to me - most of the standard items are there but the addition of the Mongolian grill is really great. I would rate the taste 2.5. I found most the food fairly bland - i.e. the Mei Fun, fried rice, egg drop soup, spare ribs - all of which I tried. The crab ragoons were very good - slightly sweet, which is the style I personally prefer. The dessert cakes were fairly good. They have a chocolate fountain if you're into that. (I call them the 'fountain of bacteria' myself - not a slight on this establishment, just the chocolate fountains themselves). The ice cream was a letdown unfortunately. Tastes like the mix is watered down. Might just be 'low fat' or something. A lot to 'digest' in this review! But overall if a buffet is desired, King Buffet is a place I would suggest, but I would advise it's a good 'what you'd normally expect from a buffet' place. read more

Chinese food is one of my comfort foods. My hubby and I stopped in for a quick lunch and are so glad we did. For about the same price you'd pay for some fast food, you can attempt to make some healthier choices here. They did have a big selection around 1230pm when we walked in. The first thing I did was take a quick tour of the buffet, grill and sushi areas. I recommend you start with the grill, load up a bowl, skip the carbs and head straight for the protein and veggies. My theory is that carbs and fried just fill you up. So, I made a cabbage, beef, tofu bowl with spicy sauce. I was impressed that the meats were frozen, sliced thin, so you could be sure of the freshness! Next, I took a trip down one of the aisles tasting a small amount of the garlic pork, chicken teriyaki, spring roll, rice noodles, Thai chicken, stuffed shrimp and mushroom. We think that was the same filling they use on the steamed or fried dumplings so the stuffed shrimp was like a meatball with a shrimp on top. For dessert, I had the stiff orange jello and two kinds of asian fruits in light syrup. There was a lot that I did not try, including a spicy dish with baby octopus. Not bad, not bad. We were on our way home from Oklahoma and wanted some AYCE Chinese food. This place is for the seafood lovers. Their fried fish was yummmy! Soft crabs, yummmm. Shrimp was delicious. The food is pretty good if you pick around in the foods that look appealing to you. The rice is usually pretty good but the noodles aren't that great. They have a lot of variety on the buffet for kids like pizza, French fries, etc. since most children don't like Chinese. The Mongolian grill is good and the guy that makes it is very fast. The sushi is not the best to me. I was kind of hesitant to eat it but it was "okay". Friday and Saturday night is crab leg night & they go very fast. The price of the buffet goes up these nights because of it. Also they don't last long so you have to grab the crab legs as soon as they come out. I loved the crab legs though so it's worth it. After reading some of the reviews, I'm convinced that the dinner service is different than the lunch service. Every time I go, I get there around their lunch opening. The food is fresh, the buffet is clean, and the service is what you would expect for this kind of restaurant. There's usually very little traffic on opening, and I've never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to be seated. The sushi is the best part of the buffet, if you like it. The seaweed/radish/kimchi addition was a great call, too. Egg drop soup has never disappointed, and I love the potstickers... But dumplings are my favorite kind of food, so perhaps I'm biased. There's nothing really astonishing about the warming station, the quality is what you'd really get at any other buffet. A lot of the reviews here are saying the same thing. And it seems like the time of day is the biggest issue. I've never been in the afternoon or evening, but my assumption would be that as the day progresses quality drops. With that said, quality for me has rarely been an issue. I hope this gets fixed, because I really enjoy this place. I've seen it get better and better over the years, and want to see it improve. Took off one star for two things: The first being that I'm allergic to almonds, and I believe one of the warming dishes was cross-contaminated. Bad reaction. This was a significant time ago and I've not had any problems with anything like that since then. The second thing is that I did find a bone in the salmon nigiri once... Only once, though, and I make sure to get a few pieces every time I go. Those bones are very hard to get out, it does happen, and as long as you're not swallowing your sushi whole you'll be fine. We've all been to buffets, most never stand out. You go out of convienience and usually because you have some money off coupon. At $5.49, this seemed like a decent enough place to try out. I figured as long as the food is hot and resembles Chinese food, I'll be ok. I was a bit surprised. The food was't bad. Egg Drop soup, Beef with Broccoli, Garlic string beans, pork dishes were all good. The cold seafood bar had fresh shrimp and mussels that were pretty good and an octopus salad that I enjoyed alot. I did stay away from the sushi. It didn't look too appetizing to me. The fried food areas had alot of kid type things, fies and onion rings and chicken wings. But there were Chinese Doughnuts, which are always great. And the staff was great about collecting plates fast and refilling drinks. We went for dinner there tonight. The food was not up to par. They tout all you can eat crab legs. 10 people stood in line to get crab legs at 5:10 P.M Saturday night. They brought out enough for one person to have a plate of crab. When people started to complain the servers would laugh at them. The hostess said that the owners and managers were on vacation. She refused to even so much as say I will try to take care of it. No, instead she said ... and I quote " Perhaps we will just stop having the crab deal on the weekends". So, what am I two now being threatened with taking my crab away from me? I explained that I really didn't care what she did in the future I was concerned about how they were going to make this right tonight. Well, bottom line was, they had no intentions of making it better. Instead, the wait staff stood at the back and laughed at the people complaining. Then, on top of all of that, we had to ask to have our water glasses filled once before we complained and once after we complained. When you have to wait 30 minutes for your first plate of food at a buffet charging 15.00 a plate... it leaves a really bad taste in your mouth, not to mention the crab was cold by the time they did bring it out. 5 Stars because they actually read those little comments and respond to feedback. The salmon was overcooked (add it to a steam table and I had to cut out the middle like an a-hole to get something that wasn't dry) but I wrote a note and the next time I went, it was done correctly. I have a love-hate relationship with this place. I'm convinced that the manager is bipolar. One day it's AMAZING and the next it's AWFUL. I've been going off and on since they opened. They just can't make everyone happy and seem to be falling into the trap of trying to. That ends up with a conglomeration of every awful Chinese buffet that everyone has loved over the years. Ack! I run in for buffet to-go pretty frequently because I can get protein and actual vegetables cheaper than running through a drive thru. Based on what I see, it seems like they are trying to play with the menu. No one knows what that coffee flavored goo cake really is, but it's part of the experience. let's be clear, im only giving 1 star because i have to. first off, the pictures are lies! they dont have snow crab legs on saturday night. they have fried dungeness crab, out of the tons of ways you could cook crab, frying is the absolute worst. they dont split the legs or pre-crack them so by the time you can open them you will find that the meat sticks to the shell and will not come off without a fight. again this is because they deep fry them. the only butter they offer for the crab is ice cold butter in a package. moving on, the pot stickers were about as easy to eat as beef jerky. it was dry and had no flavor. same with the sesame chicke. i cant imagine anyone serving it this way unless they were trying to make sesame chicken for astronauts in space, just like the freeze dried ice cream we all tried as kids. the clams had a bunch of tiny pieces of shell so with each bite your just waiting, knowing your going to feel the sensation of rocks against your teeth. i could go on about the other items i tried but they were as terrible as the things i have already listed. for desert they claim to have an amazing flowing chocolate fountain with lots of options to dip. there were only two options available ... pineapple and marshmallows. the pineapple was even dry. at the sushi station i had stepped on a piece of a roll that must have fallen off someones plate. when i looked under my shoe and an employee looked at me and then pointed to a box on the floor against a wall. i didnt understand what it was she was trying to communicate until she said "trash, trash, trash". like, ok, i guess im not capable of hearing you thr first time and hell lady dont work too hard, let me get this for you. the service is garbage. im supposed to leave a mandatory 15% tip for someone who brought me a pepsi? this is a really terrible move on the owner and managements part so that way they only have to pay their staff the two dollars an hour that real servers get paid. because god knows they arent serving you anything except a drink. and shame on them for doing that. i guarantee a lot of the staff are not legal citizens and they use this technique as slave labor. shame, shame, shame on them. to be clear i have no issues with illegal immigrants working here, and i find it deplorable to treat them like this. i hope this review saves you from the nightmare my family and i experience. i habe eaten here many times and the last three times have been garbage. i spoke to mgmt tonight expressing my concern. not in a karen way either. i told them that i wanted them to be good, i want them to succeed but that their food and service have gone to the gutter. they just looked at me as if i was some idiot, not the chef i am. so goodbye buffet king, you lost four customers for life. but i guess thats what i get for eating at a place called buffet king. oh also please be weary of the crawfish. it smells of ammonia which tells you it's gone bad. crawfish has a season for a reason, which is the early spring, so please beware. read more

Service is remarkably bad. They let the dirty plates stack up on your table, and then come to collect payment before they offer to refill your drink. The wait staff also vacuum the carpet all around you while you are trying to eat so as to make the experience uncomfortable, in hopes that guests will leave as soon as possible, even while there is plenty of time to be served. I didn't have a chance to view all the prices as they greeted and seated us really fast. However, I was able to see that their weekday lunch is $7.99 and their Saturday lunch is $8.99. This is two dollars cheaper per person than at Golden Corral down the street and more expensive than CiCis in the next shopping center but definitely offers more of a variety. We arrived a little after noon on a Saturday and I found the prices more than acceptable for a weekend sit down lunch. The drinks were large, the refills were given well before we would have needed them and were $1.99 each. I have zero complaints on the price value and considering how busy the area gets at that time of the weekend, I was glad to see plenty of parking. The restaurant is very large with nice décor and good lighting. It was about half full with couples and families. Even though there was a family at the next booth and a couple at a nearby table we were insulated enough for a good bit of privacy. Lilly was spot on in checking on us, refiling drinks and clearing dishes lightning fast. Now that we have established the atmosphere, service and value, let's move on to the food. You will run across all the same potential issues at all buffets. If you get a plate and take too long to return to your table and eat it, certain items will get cool pretty fast. Avoid the temptation of walking the entire buffet first, hit one or two stations at a time and return to your table so everything is still at the right temperature. Some items tend to dry out when sitting under the heat lamps too long and that can make them chewy. However, this is the only buffet in town that I have been to that I have seen the staff constantly circling the food, stirring items, replacing the items before they are empty. For example, I went to the Japanese chicken and tried a piece, it was kind of low. Before I put it on my plate and walked away a woman approached with a completely full tray. I was still looking around so I didn't think much of it until I returned to my table and it was a little chewy and dark for my taste. I went back and tried the new batch on my next round and it was DELICIOUS. That's the beauty of a buffet, if you sample a few things and don't like something, you don't have to finish. Get a new plate and get something else or try the newer batch. The layout includes a salad bar and a fruit/cold dessert bar at the front. Items aren't labeled there but are obvious. Next over is soup and Italian which is labeled, I saw pizza, garlic bread and rolls and I believe 6 types of soup. There is one with seafood items and the other two are Chinese food. The fried rice and lo mien were fresh and tasty, I tried a variety of chicken and fried items, most of which I liked, several were a little greasy for my taste but I was there to satisfy my unhealthy Chinese comfort food craving- which I did!!! It's definitely possible to make healthier choices there with steamed rice, salad/fruit bar and the Mongolian grill. I made a round at the sushi and Mongolian grill. I was already getting really full so it was more of a perusing for next time. The Mongolian grill looks very impressive, I have to try that on my next visit, I just couldn't pass up all that food the first time and have to try harder next time. The sushi looked beautiful, I could tell it was appropriately and tightly rolled and everything looked fresh. However, it was not labeled which I definitely prefer since there are several types of fish I don't like and I have a low tolerance for spicy so I like to know what I am picking up first. I am sure I could have asked my waitress to identify the items had I not been so full and again, I can't stress enough that these rolls were clearly fresh and beautiful. I ended with desert, I got a small piece of the mocha mousse cake which was the PERFECT ending bite to any meal. If I ever got a buffet to go I might be in danger of filling the box with that cake alone so be warned and save some room for it! My husband got the coconut mousse cake which looks good but coconut is not my thing and there was of course a variety, but did I mention the mocha mousse cake?? You got to rate things for what they are. I know this place has a dine in menu to choose from but I went to a buffet, one of three on that street alone and to my knowledge, six in town altogether. For a buffet this is a good value with a decent amount of variety, an impressively fresh Mongolian grill and sushi option, the typical fare I am craving when I want Chinese with new things to try as well and very good service. As a buffet option in Denton from two, consistent visits in 6 months, I have to rate this as a 4 star. If you are looking for five star food of perfection for an anniversary, this isn't the place to visit that day. If you are with a group that can't decide exactly what they are in the mood for and want to try a lot of things for a reasonable price, this is the perfect place to go. read more

You find out one reason when you walk in the front door: the prices are reasonable. Lunch buffet on the weekend was $7 and change, and the total bill for two buffets and two drinks was right at $20. This is a nice change from some other places in Denton that try to class it up, like Red Peppers, where you can spend $30 between two people. After that you think, "HEY DAMMIT I COULD HAVE GONE TO CHILI'S FOR THAT" and the crab legs aren't even worth it. Am I right? So anyways, the food at Buffet King is hot and fresh, which is a big deal for Chinese buffet food. This is likely a byproduct of how busy the joint is, but the service - which here consists of drink refills and table busing - are also very efficient, so speed is obviously a focus. Included in your meal is a sushi bar with all the beginner stuff like tuna rolls, California rolls, and Philadelphia rolls. The Mongolian grill is basically what you would find any place that advertises it and is almost as good as the one in Vista Ridge Mall; if you know your mall Mongolian grills, you know that Mongol Bowl at Vista Ridge Mall is the Cadillac of mall Mongolian grills. The buffet offerings are pretty standard, with some exceptions. Sure, you can rock a sugar biscuit or some teriyaki chicken so hard, but they also have a gang of weird shit, like baby octopi. If you're into that, congratulations. The desserts are good too, although they are unlabeled. I had some appie pie that was pretty solid, along with fresh fruit. Diana had some soft serve which was rad, but then she also had something that looked like a danish which seemed to have shrimp and mayonnaise in it. What do you do when you see a billboard boasting over 200 items? You stop by and check it out. Went to Buffet King for lunch, and for the 6.99 +tax lunch special this place is good. Whenever I go to a buffet place I tend to try a little bit of everything, and everything was decent to delicious. The food was fresh with a top notch Mongolian Grill (Think Genghis Grill). The sushi was average at best, but compared to other Chinese buffet places that offer sushi Buffet King wins. After gluttonizing 3 plates of everything I had to go back for more of the garlic shrimp and Chinese fried chicken. Only down side of this place is the location. Buffet King is in a shopping center behind the shopping center where you see the Burger King. If you're going northbound on I-35 it's right off the service road and easy to get too, but if you're going southbound on I-35 getting to this place can be a bit of a challenge if you're new to the area. read more

Specially the good looking ones, they never smile at me when im there. I used to request them because I wanted to have a good looking male waiter on my table and im done with that now. They never work for their tip which I usually leave them a reaaaaaally nive generous tip of over 10 dollars for a giving me service. The staff from the sushi bar is the same, they never ever say hello, Koneechiwaaa, Nihao, Hola Hi, nope, no sir, nada. So I never tip them. Same for the host, I think you need pliers to get a smile from her. Those are my only observations, from there I love the food. Its my favorite place. read more
