Delicious food but extremely slow service This was hands down the best meal in the Yellowstone/Grand Teton area my friends and I had. We stopped for breakfast on our last day in Grand Teton before driving down to Salt Lake City, and I'm glad we weren't in a rush, since the whole experience took a lot longer than expected. We arrived on a Sunday morning a little after 10, but was told that because they were running behind in the kitchen, it would be a while before they could seat us. We waited for maybe 15 minutes to get seated, and then another 15 minutes until we were even given menus. I went with the Rustler's Round Up ($11), which is a breakfast platter that comes with two eggs any style, hash browns, bacon/sausage, and biscuit with gravy. It took almost 45 minutes for us to get our food, but everything was done extremely well. The hash browns, which were actually just tater tots, were crispy on the outside, the sausage was plump and juicy, the eggs were scrambled just right without being overcooked, and the biscuit and gravy were extremely satisfying. My friends and I all really enjoyed our food. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for good food in the area who isn't in a rush. read more

If you want old Americana, down and dirty, and I mean dirty, this is your place. Two stars instead one just for the convenience and being the only place around for miles. The only reason to visit this establishment is because you are visiting the Heart 6 Ranch. End of the season and closing soon for the winter so they were out of a lot of things, especially no beer or wine. Service is rough. No frills. One guy who stood behind the bar and took our order. Asked what we should order since so much was unavailable. He suggested the burger so, the burger it was. Fries were bad and after a few, left the rest. Burger was just ok. Ate here out of convenience because we stayed nearby. I will say that I love the decor, all of the odds and ends are charming and make for great atmosphere and photos. They also don't skimp on the food portions. Unfortunately, my rating is mostly because of the pricing. Not only do they charge $3 for water (!), they also add an automatic 20% gratuity to every check (regardless of party size) without disclosing. The $5 takeout fee is also new to me. Food is expensive and extremely mediocre. One star for the super cute decor and working WiFi, and for the huckleberry milkshake which was alright (but the worst one of the 3 we tried in the area). Terribly slow service. They automatically add a 20% service charge to all bills with no warning. Their menu says they add it for takeout, but it does not say it's for everything! They will give you beer and milkshakes in disposable cups, but tap water will cost you $2 for a cup (tho they will allow you to bring your own container and get it filled for free). I don't think there is any coming back from the pit that they have created. The service was not only self serve, but also like you had to navigate an obstacle course to do so. Just to get a drink of water you have to pay three dollars for a reusable water bottle that has a 100% chance for the lid to break. The actual food itself seemed like someone was let in the back to just throw a bunch of stuff in a bowl, and then serve it. And then to wrap it all up, you are left with a devastating decision. You could eat outside and die by mosquito bites, or you could eat inside and slowly burn alive at 120 degrees. Also, the most expensive place i've ever eaten. Automatic gratuity. Breakfast was cold, Service was alright, they were out of hot chocolate. You can't bring your own water in and to get water you have to buy one of their "souvenir water bottles". The most ridiculous thing however, besides the price, was that they charge a 5 DOLLAR TAKEOUT FEE. I found this place disgusting but when I told the employees I was surprised they cared. So my suggestion to them is to use the bathrooms throughout the facility on a rotation so they can see what the customers are experiencing. Don't just use the nice bathrooms. Use all the bathrooms. Also fix the ceiling tiles and remove mattresses and remove construction materials and fix broken showers and clean the shower curtains. Also get the cowboys to care about the customers. Don't ride the four wheelers throwing up dust when customers are packing their cars or eating lunch. And get a handle on them scamming the customers on pricing. I know you told me $120 to ride and put it on the map but when my friend asked he told him $200. Not a good business model. We upgraded from a teepee to a wagon our second day and we had to pay for both. The guy in the wagon next to us got a free upgrade to a wagon because no tents were available. However, it was pouring rain. Had to order at the counter. No table service. Water is $3.00 but you get a plastic reusable bottle with a logo. Food was good but expensive. Pancakes & Burro Burrito. Hot Chocolate sucked. Check your bill before paying. A gratuity was already added. Service slow and food was not ready altogether. I was handed the plate of pancakes way before the burrito was ready and I had to ask again for the hot chocolate. I went to the Check-in door for the Heart Six Ranch to ask about the bathroom location and Terry, who was at the counter, was very rude and told me to go somewhere else. The bread was burned, the hamburger was raw, the french fries were soaked in grease and undercooked, the sodas were low on syrup, there were flies all around the table, they were out of the first several things that I tried to order off the menu, and the help was questionably friendly and efficient at best. You have to pay and leave a tip before your meal is delivered. Unfortunate because if we'd paid after, we wouldn't have paid for the meals or left a tip. WATCH OUT: 20% TIP AUTOMATICALLY ADDED (for counter service) My husband and I ate breakfast at the cafe two mornings in a row (August 11 and 12) while staying at the ranch. Orders are taken at the counter, and food is carried out to your table. Hubby paid one morning and I paid the next. The check had standard lines at the bottom for Tip and Total. Each of us was unsure how much to tip for counter service, but the servers were reasonably friendly and working hard, so each of us tipped 20% on the total. Neither of us noticed that a 20% "auto-gratuity" had already been added to the check. The auto-gratuity was difficult to see because it was added as if it was a food item, before the Subtotal and tax. We each tipped 20% on the Total (including auto-gratuity and tax), so we ended up tipping 44% on the food, which was NOT what we intended. So, FAIR WARNING: Your $17 breakfast (already a hefty price for a standard plate of breakfast food) will be $20.40 with the auto-gratuity (before tax). Or $26.46 with coffee and tax. I called the cafe after we got home and spoke with the manager. She claimed the auto-gratuity practice was posted in multiple places (which neither hubby nor I saw). The practice was implemented because the ranch has many guests from other countries who are not in the habit of tipping, and the servers would get "stiffed" if she didn't implement a mandatory service charge. I argued that a MANDATORY 20% service charge for COUNTER SERVICE is certainly not usual practice in this country. At least the servers could have asked if we actually intended to tip double. Manager said the servers see "hundreds of customers a day" and cannot be expected to notice how much was tipped or ask the customer about it. Manager said she will "never" change the auto-gratuity practice. So, I appreciate where this manager is coming from. She wants to ensure her servers (who live on site) are covered, and she's willing to take the heat from people like me. However, the current practice is also causing well-meaning people like me to tip far more than is reasonable. My suggestion to the cafe: on the check that is given to the customer, REPLACE the Tip and Total lines with the statement SERVICE CHARGE INCLUDED. An automatic tip of 20% is plenty (especially for counter service); there's no need to confuse people by soliciting additional tips. I consider the "auto-gratuity," as implemented, a nonstandard and deceptive practice, hence my 2-star review. Based on the food, service, and setting, I would have given 3 stars (maybe 4 on a generous day). I suggest passing on the breakfast burrito, which was almost entirely hash browns inside (it was hard to find any egg or meat, and there was no cheese). The lady taking our order was very rude and they charged me $6 to substitute a single small pancake instead of the toast that came with the meal. On top of that, they gave themselves a 20% tip without my knowledge. Additionally, we had to retrieve all of our silverware, condiments, ect. which is not worth the extensive tip. Food is slightly above average, but the scenery and setting makes the Buffalo Valley Cafe a great place for lunch. As a bonus they have WiFi available, in an area where only mountains and rivers exist. Sits just inside the entrance for the Tetons national forest and about a half hour from Yellowstone. There isn't much to find for dining in this area, so stop in if your in the area. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Worst place I've ever been to!!! How do u burn eggs?! They were burnt and there were nothing but burnt scrapings, barley any eggs on plate. Cold bacon undercooked and burnt toast I didn't even take a bite. I just looked at it and sent it back. The tables were dirty and dishes left all over the place. All the fried food were soggy and soaked with oil, burger, too....juicy/watery, and salad had cranberry jelly on top instead of just dried cranberries. We came back to Jackson, Wy with our mouths watering, just thinking about revisiting The Buffalo Valley Cafe! We wondered if it had been a fluke, or would we get the same wonderful Burger and hand cut FF as before! We love the rustic ambiance, the food, the down to earth and friendly staff. Heart 6 Ranch was highly recommended to visit for a horseback ride but it wasn't convenient for our trip, so we decided to visit the restaurant with hopes that the highly regarded welcome/hospitality. Couldn't be more wrong. Run by a bunch of teenagers with somewhat shitty attitudes, we got perfectly average food at high prices and had to help ourselves to all of the extras (ketchup, mayo, salt) and were told we'd have to pay $2 for a glass of water. You looked at a menu on a window and then placed your order with the bartender who was very unfriendly. For 4 people it came to $78 which included 4 meals and 2 drinks! And that included a mandatory 15% gratuity added to your bill when you ordered. The food was brought to us with no utensils, napkins, or condiments. Silverware was clean. Back to the dogs...I am a dog lover, but not in a restaurant and certainly not around my food. We watched these two dogs going from table to table begging for food and staring the customers down as they ate. The barmaid went to get ice in a large, clear ice bucket and sat it on the floor to fill it with a scoop from the ice machine. The large white dog walked over to the ice bucket and stuck it's head inside to sniff it in between scoops of ice. We watched the barmaid carry the ice over and pour it in the ice bin. The food was bland and stale. Probably left from last year but I have no proof of course. Ordered a chicken finger dinner for the wife and little girl. I ordered the fish and chips.
