First impression was not stellar, as the hostess who was on duty this morning (7/6) really needs some training. She doesn't greet people coming in and did not stay at her station. There was no organization of taking parties names or directing patrons how to que. Several parties were allow to 'cut' in line, including two men who just walked in and sat themselves. Now, the waitress was good and the food was delicious. The breakfast potatoes are a bit lackluster, more burnt than not. I had the Classic Benedict and it was very good. The hollandaise was very tasty, however, the eggs were over easy instead of poached. Husband had a cheese omelet and he was very pleased. Coffee was good. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. After getting past the hostess chaos, we felt very welcomed and relaxed. We will definitely return. read more

We read the mixed reviews and thought we would give Rooster's Cafe a try before heading over to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West museum just down the road. Sorry, folks, but the experience was a "Meh" at best. The breakfast combo was hot, but not memorable, and staffing was not great. The waitress who was also the manager did not bring out the food. The person who did had to make three trips over a 15-minute period. Meanwhile, they also appeared to be the cook, and bus person. We were not impressed. Our server, Jess, was fantastic! Rooster's Cafe turned out to be the perfect place ahead of spending a half a day at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. Their veggie omelette was delicious--possibly the best ever--filled with toppings and light on egg. Loved their light and fluffy, large hotcake. Hubby loved his classic breakfast. Jess sent us home with an amazing cinnamon roll. A suggestion that could put this over the top would be to offer a jam that's local rather than prepackaged offering. read more

I came here for breakfast. I got there as it opened, so the place was empty. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and country potatoes. The biscuits were good, but a little tough. The gravy was thick and creamy and loaded with sausage. The eggs and potatoes were average. The waiter was attentive keeping my coffee refilled and checking in frequently. Stopped here for breakfast while in Cody to visit Yellowstone. The food was very good. They make their own sausage which is delicious. This is a nice diner atmosphere. They were very busy and like all restaurants these days, staffing shortages are a constant problem with people failing to show up to work. I'm a very easygoing person when it comes to restaurants, and I usually don't leave negative reviews, but unfortunately, this place just wasn't it for me or my family. The service itself wasn't terrible, but the food is where things really went wrong. We ordered our food and waited quite a while for it to come out, only for everything to arrive cold not even warm. They had also run out of chicken and gravy, so my brother had to order something else. I asked our server if she could just heat my food up in the microwave, but she said she would have the whole plate remade instead. About 30 minutes later, she came back with what appeared to be the same plate and told me they had run out of gravy. Visited Roosters for breakfast with my family the other day- attractive, nicely decorated restaurant- it was about half full when we arrived. Food was decent, but it was slow to arrive. It took 45 minutes from the time we ordered to get our food! Also, difficult to get refills for coffee. The place seems understaffed both in the kitchen and dining room. Roosters had a rather longer wait than normal bit their veggie omelet proved to be worth it MY son had ordered French toast the young man missed the card when he brought 2 1/2 pieces of French toast which was served on a saucer so I shared my huge omelet with potatoes with him my son was taking us out so u can imagine ? We were in Cody for one night and Roosters was recommended by the manager of our motel. Only open for breakfast and lunch, we had breakfast and it was really good! The eggs were cooked perfectly, homemade sausage was very tasty served with your choice of bread (sourdough was real good) and fried potatoes. Our waitress, Suzanne, was a sweetheart. She brought coffee right away, took our order and the food came out quickly. She checked on us several times. The manager was also very nice. We will go back on our next trip through. One thing we learned about Cody, WY, is that it is short staffed. The first breakfast place we went to was actually closed due to staffing issues. At Rooster's Cafe, the service was very slow because of similar issues, and yes, we had to patiently wait, but the waitress was nice and trying. One suggestion is to have someone shadow new employees. The food was good, and we enjoyed sitting outside and eating breakfast on the covered patio. The waitstaff was fantastic, service was quick and both days I had breakfast there the food was consistently good and priced very fair. The restaurant is nice and clean. I would gladly go there again when traveling through Cody. They made me feel right at home and I even had a great meeting with the manager at my table. I liked their take on breakfast potatoes too. The smothered burrito was good but I felt like it had no egg and was all cheese and bacon. Finally had a chance to try Rooster's when a couple coworkers were passing through. We sat down at 11:30am on a Sunday. It wasn't overly busy. There were four of us and we each ordered a basic breakfast (omelette, French toast, biscuits and gravy, hash). 40 minutes later we still didn't have our food. The waiter was very young and did what most young people would do in an uncomfortable situation they had no control over - avoided us. We finally asked how much longer and he said "soon" and made the excuse that a big group had come in just after us. That didn't stop the couple that were seated after us and near us from getting their food though. They did offer us a free cinnamon roll to eat while we waited for our food, which we declined. Our food was finally deliver an hour after ordering. It was decent, but certainly not worth the wait. My friend specifically ordered a "build your own" omelette to avoid cheese, but ended up with copious amount of cheese both on top of and inside her omelette, rendering it virtually inedible for her. We were not offered a discount on our tickets. Sadly, we will not return and we won't be recommending them to any out of town visitors. read more

I have eaten at this place three times in the last two months and the first two times we had to wait over a half hour for a table because they are understaffed. Today they weren't too busy supposedly because we were seated within a minute of us walking in. The hostess was very friendly and the waitress came almost immediately to get our drink order and we both knew what we wanted to eat so it took our food order immediately also. The food seemed to take a long time to get to us because I was able to drink two full cups of coffee before our food came. The issue started when my daughter with autism didn't know that whipped cream would be on her French toast and so I took it off and put it in my coffee, which I drink black, and the biggest issue was the fact that the waitress Amanda once she served us our food never came back to the table so I had to eat my entire meal without anything to drink. I commented to my daughter that it's really sad that McDonald's probably would've been a better experience than we got today. I almost left no tip, but I just couldn't bring myself to do that to her when it's probably the fact that they're so terribly understaffed. My plan is never to go to this restaurant ever again. Pancakes were dry and flavorless, the poached eggs weren't even slightly runny, and the bacon was barely cooked. The potatoes were the opposite: overcooked and tough. We let the manager know, and all we got was 50% off the chicken -- the same chicken nobody could eat. Pretty disappointing response for a table full of untouched plates. The only reason this isn't a zero-star review is because our server was great: attentive, kind, and clearly trying to make the best of a bad situation. Order the New York strip with eggs meat was like a flat piece of beef jerky with so much meat rub on it that it was so salty that you had to scrape it.
