Not sure why this restaurant has such a bad review on Yelp. We had a great experience here, even when we came with low expectations. The servers here were very friendly and welcoming. Although there isn't a large food menu, what we tried was still good. The fettuccine was very creamy, the chicken was a little dry though. The Mac and Cheese was light surprisingly, and the chicken was crunchy but not too hard, with smooth meat inside. We would definitely recommend the Mac and Cheese. The lemon butter cod was extremely delicious and was probably the best meal, but all of the meals were good. The fries specifically are very good. Bar seating, where we sat, wasn't too busy, and it wasn't too loud. We definitely recommend this restaurant, it was a pleasant experience. read more

We stopped by this place along the way to Yellowstone because there was no options around. However, I was pleasantly surprised and this the was the best food I had on the whole Yellowstone and Grand teton trip. That is to say it was pretty average for a normal restaurant outside of the park. The Mac and cheese sauce was perfect, and it wasn't too thick making the meal not too heavy. The burger was very average however, it tasted like something I would cook at home during July 4th. The bison tasted just like steak and was very tender but the seasoning was just a bit too salty for me. It was balanced by the potatoes, which had a good consistency and flavour. My personal favorite was the trout which alone, wouldve bumped this review up to a 4.5 star. It was cooked decently, with the meat being quite tender and the seasoning on top was delicious. The cauliflower rice was slightly tangy and the greens were tender and well cooked bringing out a whole new flavour when all these elements combined, a very unique taste that I had never experienced before. Located at the main building/lobby where guests check in/out, this restaurant was good. Walked in for breakfast. The interior was cabin-like where a lot of wood was used. Service was good and our server was attentive. Food was good. Breakfast burrito had eggs, bacon, sausage, and cheese. Potatoes were served on the side. For the breakfast buffet, options were pastries, oatmeal, eggs, bacon, sausage, omelet, yogurt, french toast, breakfast potatoes, fresh fruits and some other toppings like nuts, dried cranberries, etc. The yogurt was more on the sour side for my taste and was not as sweet as expected. Would never recommend to anyone. I am under the belief that the only reason they are in business is the lack of competition in the market around them, it's also the only justification I can come up with for their pricing. Food: I ordered a $35 sirloin steak with mushrooms, medium, I chose a salad and Smokey bacon Mac and cheese for the sides. The Mac and cheese was cool to the touch, not saucy or cheesy at all. The mushrooms were cold also. The steak was lukewarm, I pulled up 4 charts with the manager, the charts pointed it to be between blue and rare, not medium, chewing and unedible. They took it and threw it away instead of throwing it back on the stove for a minute. Service: waitress yelled at my son for playing with an empty chair. She ran over saying not to play with it. The staff didn't bring out all that was ordered. We tried to wave down any staff members. One made eye contact but didn't come to us or send anyone to us. They messed up the food that was brought out, we waited 10 minutes to talk to someone after a bite of all the food, not once at this dining experience did anyone ask us how was the food. Ambiance: a cute and nice place. It wasn't too loud or too quiet, great lighting, the log cabin was beautiful. Definitely an outdoorsy feel. read more

We were hungry for lunch when we arrived for our stay at the adjacent lodge (Hedgewater lodge & cabins) during our trip to Yellowstone last week. Figured this was a great choice cause the menu looked reasonable, both in price and offerings. Looks can be deceiving. The service was ok but the meal I ordered was pathetic. A grilled chicken sandwich wrapped in lettuce with a side of carrots & celery "sticks". What I got was 1/4 of a sliced grilled chicken breast on a few pieces of romaine lettuce with shredded veggies. The spicy aioli was forgotten and the entire plate looked kid sized for $13. I was hungry so I ate and the flavor was good but it was all over in 5 minutes. The dry, sad looking veggie "sticks" were laughable and I just added them to my lettuce wrap. On a positive note: My moms veggie burger was really delicious and my Dads buffalo wings were "decent enough". Not many options around but skip what I ordered at all costs! read more

Just had dinner here my server Byron was good had the Bison & Elk Meatloaf can't say it was really good, it gave me a terrible stomach ache and the after taste stay with me the next day. Hope to think it was not the meat for $27 dollars think is was the gravy. Mac n Cheese not bad. read more

Ordered the NY strip and a baked potato but when I got it i started cutting in and 1/3 of the steak tater I got a little piece of meat. It was all gristle!! I showed the waiter and he took it away so I assumed he was getting a replacement. I understand that every cut of meat isn't amazing but there is a point where the chef says "ok im not cooking this". This is a poor restaurant and very pricey for what you get. Last night went their for dinner was waiting as they opened at 5:30 pm, no problem, about 5:30 I walked up to the hostess desk as she was standing there and ask for a table for two, she looks at the clock and said we still have one more minute before we open but I guess I can get you a table. That set the tone for the rest of the meal. Order prime rib small cut and my wife has a hamburger. Ice tea and soft drink cost over $50 bucks. Service was marginal, Brussels sprouts were burnt and could not even cut with steak knife prime rib was tough. We had eaten luck there two days prior and thought we caught them just as the close of lunch so food was just ok and server attitude was not what you would have expected. The local trout was super dry, the loaded potato was hard, dry and wasn't even near to being loaded. The broccoli was almost raw. Chicken piccata didn't taste like chicken piccata. The capers were fried and lost all taste. The only good thing was the Stella I drank. Service was nice. Never coming back there. read more

Been there twice for dinner and breakfast. Dinner ordered bison burger and pan fried trout. Burger itself is OK, I am not a big fan of burger, so in general it should be good, but the fries come with it is simply amazing, the best I ever had, it's so crispy, not salty and home-made feelings. Breakfast is buffet, $14 each person I think is a little overpriced, but the food is decent, orange juice, home-made yogurt, cereal, scrambled eggs, sausage and some potatoes. read more

The server didn't know the menu (didn't know what the daily specials were), had to be asked numerous time for drinks, got a few things wrong on the order, etc. Worst example was after taking our orders and we'd been waiting for at least 25-30 minutes, she came back and said one of the entrees wasn't available. Now, they did comp us the substitute, but we couldn't figure out what was going on in the kitchen that between the chef and the server it took half an hour to figure that out. We really enjoyed the breakfast here. My favorite was the french toast with huckleberries on the side (caution: order butter on the side). The first day was great. Had a sharp waitress from Utah. The second day, we were not impressed with a different server. Apart from being absentminded, she, amongst others, were very loud in the kitchen. We could hear the back blasting/singing to the radio. I don't know if the meat was old but the meatloaf was extremely chewy and made me sick at the end of the night. I ordered the Mac and cheese with is which was supposed to have bacon. I ordered a veggie burger, my total bill came to about $16 when tip and tax were included. The veggie burger was a boca burger on a bun with basic toppings and a side of fries. The amount of fries I got was very little, and they could have easily given at least twice as many fries. Fries are a very simple thing to make a customer happy, and receiving what was probably under 10 skinny fries was disappointing. Regardless, our server was good and the service was quick. Inedible, fatty ribeye, "kid's" mac-n-cheese loaded with cayane pepper, hard-as-rocks chicken strips, burgers not cooked to specified done-ness, egg on "Brinner" burger not cooked to specification, 30 minute wait times for dessert both nights. Worst Breakfast Ever! I was expecting a bad meal because, after all, this is a Xanterra company, but what I got was way worse than anything, I mean anything, I have ever been served in my life. I have not eaten McDonald's in almost a decade and after this meal I have never wanted McDonald's breakfast so bad. The lodge seemed nice and the atmosphere of the dining room was great and the place was about half full. I ordered biscuits and gravy for $9.50. I figured for that price in a lodge with a sit down restaurant I would get some nice fresh, fluffy biscuits, two eggs, and some gravy. I was very wrong. I got two silver dollar sized hockey pucks they called biscuits with what looked like congealed dog vomit on them, and NO EGGS, WHAT? As soon as I tried to cut a "biscuit" with my fork it shot off my plate because it was so hard. I then asked the manager to come over and try my food (which he totally did and it was awesome). I then asked if that is how that plate is always served, to which he replied that the biscuits were slightly over done, but otherwise, yes that is how it always is. He then comped the meal and offered the buffet breakfast as a replacement. They tried to make it right, but they buffet was just as lame. We sat down for service at around 10am and the breakfast buffet had started at 7am and from the looks and tastes of it, the same food had been out since 7am. Just a heads up, Sheffield's is the name of the restaurant at the Headwaters Lodge at Flagg Ranch, I had a hard time finding what to place this review under.
