Buffalo Exchange is my favoritest thrift store next to Unique thrift store. I love love love it here. The staff is always so helpful and the items are always so organized. My favorite find that I got here is a men's Member's Only leather jacket that was only for 15 bucks. Even though it wasn't for me I loved the look on my bf's face when I gave it to him. this would be a great place for me to blow my whole paycheck. i found a lot of really cool stuff for myself and i saw a lot of stuff my boy would love too. consider: a 23 dollar dolce and gabbana sweater. The first Buffalo Exchange I've visited on the East Coast. A tad bit bigger than the one in East Village I believe. And more inventory. The staff is friendly most of the time and helps put clothes aside for you if they see you're carrying a lot. I usually find at least one thing there that I like. Again I wouldn't try to sell anything here unless I knew exactly what they wanted (for I have tried to sell and failed). It gets busy on the weekends after 4 or 5pm during the week. The best time to shop is early in the morning or early afternoon during the week. Plus side: Williamsburg is pretty awesome. read more

First and foremost this place can get really crowded so i would go during the weekday. Ive gotten several good finds at this thrift store. The clothing is neatly organized and ive never purchased a dress for myself that was more than 20.00. Some of my girlfriends have informed me that its a pain in the ass to trade in your used clothing because they are so selective about what they accept. read more

Though this place is a falls on the pricier side for a consignment shop, they do a really good job sorting out garbage from treasures. For those of you who never entered a thrift store before, this may be a good place to break you in. It's cleaner, more organized, and the staff is quite friendly. They have buyers who are quite selective and only buy things according to seasons and trends. Before you go, rummage through your closet. Pack ANY/ALL accessories, clothes, shoes that you never wear, and want out of your closet. They will BUY what they like, and you can either get store credit, or cash! I've only been to the Brooklyn store, so I can't speak of any other location. I've scored some fabulous items: a Joan Holloway-type dress for my birthday party in 2009, non-used (like, eiw!) Dolce Vita ballet flats and a bitchin' maxi dress (obviously not to be worn together). Anyway, being a rather adorable 5'1" tall, I had to have the maxi dress hemmed and altered to fit on top. ($13 dress- $60 in alterations). Ooops. However, it's still cheaper than Bloomingdales or any Yuppie dive on mainland Manhattan.The staff is always friendly and informative. I assume this is because they chose to write poetry and work in a thrift shop verses having their souls vacuumed out by a suit in a skyscraper. read more

I used to love Buffalo Exchange. As recently as a month ago, I had a great selling experience there. The two buyers were fast but thorough, moving the line along with good humor. The buyer knew about all of the pieces I brought in, even the more obscure brands, and gave me what I felt was a very fair price for all of them. Last week was another story. The line stretched all the way to the door and never seemed to move. The buyers were slow not because they were taking time to examine every piece, but because they frequently stopped to gossip. The buyer I dealt with knew very little about what I brought in, offering prices that would have been absurd even for Beacon's Closet. read more

This place rules simply because they organize everything by SIZE. As someone who is on the larger side, it really takes the frustration and self-loathing out of shopping, and I spend A LOT more money here than at Beacon's Closet or Crossroads. I went there last year in September for 2 things: to sell my clothes and to look for a job. This was my first time going into the store. Before I went into the store I called them the day before and they told me they were hiring so they knew I was coming and I also let them know I had clothes to sell. I had a huge luggage filled with brand new clothes that I never worn because I had bought them during the summer to wear for the fall but I decided to sell them because I was unemployed and needed the money badly. I first had an appointment in Manhattan so I brought everything plus a bag with a pair of boots with me. I went to the store right after I was done. When I got there it was a disaster. I had to climb a flight of stairs without any help at all I literally struggled with my luggage especially traveling all the way from Brooklyn to Manhattan and then to Brooklyn again. I was exhausted. There was only 1 person in the cashier in the section to sell clothes and he went looking through my clothes. A customer came to sell her clothes too but she had to wait until he was done with me so he ended up rushing. He literally didn't even view all of my clothes, he only viewed like 10 pair of clothes out of 50 pair of clothes that I've had. He didn't accept any of my clothes and he didn't explain to me why. The only thing he said was he wasn't accepting Forever 21 but there were about 3 items from Forever 21 and the rest wasn't, so I really didn't know why he didn't accept my clothes. And the boots that I've had were very similar to the boots they were selling and my style of clothes were exactly the same style of clothes as their's. He then gave back all of my clothes that he took out from my luggage for me to put back into my luggage because he wanted to help the other customer. I thought that was extremely rude. I was dropping all of my clothes all over the floor and he just stood there waiting on me. He then gave me an application to sign for the job and he sent me down the flight of stairs to sit down on the bench to sign it. Of course nobody helped as I struggled to go down the stairs with my luggage. As soon as I was done I went to the cashier while another person was in the cashier alongside with him. I waited in line because she was helping customers. I then gave her my application thinking she was going to give it to the manager and she started asking me random questions. I thought she was just asking me questions before I get to see the manager because she was literally working as an employee. I then realized she was the manager when she had lied and said they weren't hiring now and for me to come back, meaning I wasn't hired because she specifically told me on the phone that she was. I stood there majorly confused because I didn't recognize her as the manager. She was not dressed nor did she looked or act like she was the manager. And her "interviewing" me was so unprofessional, she interviewed me while she was in front of the cashier and in front of the customers, they were customers next to me and behind me. The whole thing didn't make sense to me. Based on my experience I had never gone back into the store and I never will. The way that I was treated as a customer was unacceptable. I ended up donating all of my clothes next door to Monk Vintage which all I got was a crappy 10% off which means nothing to me. But I was so exhausted that I had to get rid of the clothes. I wasted my money on the nice clothes that I brought and I wasted my time. I actually regret donating it to Monk Vintage. I'm better off selling my clothes on Ebay. read more

With a large selection of clothing, all in new or near-new condition, Buffalo Exchange surprised me with its breadth of inexpensive finds. From some pants on sale for $7 to a nice pair of red sneakers for $22, and a few more pieces in between, I had a very fulfilling couple hours there this past weekend, and hope to go back at least a few more times before it gets overrun, gets picked over, and inevitably has to raise prices. read more

All of the Buffalo Exchange locations have their own personality and the Williamsburg location is definitely the most laid back. Employees aren't mean or stuck up but they do leave you alone to look around and take quite a lot of time to ring people out. This location also doesn't seem to have as much inventory as the one in Chelsea. They have some cute things. As with every thrift store, there are some Gap/Loft/NY & Co shirt that make you go "What is this doing here?" but there's some cute finds. I found a Steven Alan boho blouse and a non-name peplum cut out tank. Prices are affordable...I just wish there was more. It seemed like there were more jeans/pants selection than tops. They also had an adequate men's section...lots of tshirts! read more

Checked this place out last weekend as I enjoy the thrill of thrift shopping. I really loved their selection, that's the great thing about Buffalo Exchange being picky. As a shopper, I know there's some pretty cute stuff to be had. I found a great top for $8 and all my friends each found a piece as well. The sales people were incredibly friendly. It's also really easy to get to from the L train. Will definitely drop by here on the regular now! read more

One of my many vintage rummage spots. Some stuff in here are worth the price and some, just doesn't seem right. There are some cheap brands such as Forever21 and H&M that are on the racks and the price being only few dollars cheap if it was new. Other than those ticks, their more expensive brands and cuter items are a good deal. It's Hit & Miss depends on who brings what in, so you can't say this or that place has the best finds. But they sure are a bit less over whelming than Beacon's. read more

Completely disappointed in what this place gas become. Brands that they used to gladly take , they now frown upon. Out of two big bags, they only took two items. Then the buyers try to distract you with their boring conversations. What they want people to bring in to sell and what's on the racks do not coincide. They need to seriously reevaluate themselves. I haven't been to the Buffalo in Williamsburg in years. Now I have one much closer to me on Boerum Place in Cobble Hill. I just visited this location. Girls seemed nice enough but their "buying" process is so subjective it's hard not to get frustrated with the pricing sometimes or even what they'll accept vs decline. As many reviews have stated- when you look around you see tons of junk and items you perceive as out dated or of less value than your own. Today my experience was no exception. One girl started my process, then switched with someone else who continued to consult the original girl about what items to accept. Annoying to say the least. I love this location!! The staff is super nice, honest and helpful. I have been here a few times to sell things and have had pretty good experiences. The layout of the store is pretty open with a decent selection, yet it can be hit or miss depending time of the week/season. Very bad customer service. I had a 250 dollar pair of leather lamb wool Ugg boots that were in ok condition. Since i am moving out of cold climate I will no longer need them. They wouldn't buy them from me granted it is the summer time and they are not on season. I was appalled by the attitude of the salesperson. Pretentious hipster nonsense where the salesperson literally felt good about herself by rejecting me. I understand that they didn't want my product but the attitude that I experienced by more than one associate is disappointing. read more

Their shoe and earring collection always makes me happy but their customer service skills SUCK. Lots of snarky bullshit. I always leave there feeling like I annoyed someone even if I'm nice to the staff or I mind my own business and manners while Im there(the amount of clothes I re-hang...seriously). I work for a popular vintage clothing company in Manhattan. One thing I stress is excellent customer service when I hire. It's so important. Of course not everyone on staff at this place is rude. Some are so kind you just want to smile and chat with them a bit, but some of them really need to work on getting rid of their rude ,no-good, stuck up, broke brooklyn kid attitudes. 2 of my friends on different occasions mentioned the lack of customer service skills in this place. One of them mentioned how she tried to engage a bit with one of the sales associates and it was a no go. The girl kept responding as if my friend was some psycho off the street. My friend was simply admiring the prices and the atmosphere...she was just trying to make nice with the girl. There are some obvious gems in the staff. There is a nice upbeat short guy who is really kind. The tall male manager who always looks sharp and has curly short hair--he's awesome and the one who has platinum hair and dresses really funky and cool. They are nice people but enough of the rest of the staff SUCK at pretending they know me enough to not like me and THEY SUCK at pretending to love me. I used to hear that this place had attitudes left and right but I ignored it(i like to get a feel for things myself). Now I know from first hand experience. read more

Review for buy-back only: They give practically nothing back. Must be in mint condition (in which you're better off selling via craigslist) and you'll get pennies on the dollar. I think the entire operation's a racket. They want to donate everything (which they take, clean up or fix, then resell for a lot more). I was in here a couple of weeks ago and saw some Michael Kors shades and wanted to buy them but I was told they were on hold for an employee. I REALLY wanted them and had the money but since I was told I couldn't buy them, I bought something else. Today I went back and saw those very same Kors shades back in the display case. My first trip to Buffalo Exchange was on a Saturday afternoon, which was a rookie mistake. While I was getting pummeled and shoved around the clothing racks by wild-eyed shoppers I kind of felt like I was in a buffalo stampede, so I guess it's nice that they don't deceive you with their name (sorry, Monk Vintage, but I'm pretty sure monks would be fundamentally opposed to spending $200 on a leopard faux fur coat.) Anyway, I went back on a Friday after work and it made a world of difference--so many options, and pretty well organized! I feel like this is a hit or miss place like most vintage thrift stores, but I scored a mint condition DVF wrap dress for $25 and therefore my heart is yours, Buffalo Exchange. 5 stars for your awesome selection and delightfully apt name. read more

All Buffalo Exchange's in NY offers a great selection of items from many different origins and corners of the city. At this particular BF, an employee brought a friend of mine, who I had brought to this store for her first time, to tears after scolding and voicing criticism to her after her card was declined. Following this, she continued to talk negatively about my friend to another employee, as if we couldn't hear their dialogue a foot away from us across the counter. There is no excuse for a worker to carry a personal judgment towards a customer, which ultimately triggered a panic attack for my friend. From a single, seconds-long interaction, you cannot make a reasoned judgment of who someone is, nor can you read that have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder that makes even the smallest social interactions a challenging task. To treat people with respect should be a customary trait that all employees should acquire or at least be trained to have, but this does not seem to be the case at this establishment. There is a proper way to handle uncomfortable situations such as a declined card but the way in which the employee handled it was most definitely not it. I will not be visiting any Buffalo Exchange from this point forward due to this experience and its disrespectful nature, nor will I be recommending it to people I know. read more

I thrift shop A LOT; like a whole lot. Buffalo exchange just never seems to make it on my regular rotation because it's a bit disorganized and not curated very well. I have only good things to say about Buffalo Exchange! I live nearby, so I stop in frequently, and whether I am selling, buying, or just fruitlessly browsing, the staff has never been anything less than genuine and helpful. That is the crown jewel of this place, and that's why they get my business more than other used clothing shops in the area (and I LOVE thrift shopping). The line to sell your stuff can be long at times, so make life easier on yourself and bring a book, game, or music if you come to sell. The accessory selection in the front is small, but worth scanning every time because I've definitely picked up some treasures from the glass case! Good selection in general, I feel that the space is used well and turnover of items is fast enough that you can go back fairly often. Good amount of dressing rooms and attentive attendants. Wish they had more shoes sizes 9 and up. Come on, ladies with big feet, sell your awesome, gently-used shoes there! read more

Chanel pumps for 39$. True story. Come on the weekdays, otherwise it's too crowded to browse and most of the good stuff is sucked up real fast.
