I have an 18 month old son that fell asleep in the car ride on the way to Sawyer's. The rest of my family, 5 adults and 1 four year old went ahead inside. Our waitress informed us that sawyers has a "rule" that once we have ordered, my husband would not be able to even come to the table. Whatever I ordered for him would be packed in a to-go box but he couldn't eat it in the restaurant nor at the table. He'd have ti eat it outside. They were NOT busy. Maybe 10 families at best in the restaurant. I called my husband to tell him this ridiculous rule and he said no, I'll stay in the car and he won't eat breakfast and I insisted that wake our son up and he come inside. It wouldn't be fair to him. Meanwhile, the waitress asked her manager if they could make an exception but my husband was already walking in with my 18 month old. I told her if my son starts screaming because he's tired, not one employee by Sawyers better say anything about it. She said that wouldn't be a problem. I even told her that I know it's not her rule or her fault, but this is ridiculous for families to be subjected to this type of rule. The kids menu does not offer any type of waffle and my 4 year old had her heart set on a waffle. I told her they had m&m pancakes ($6.99) and she was sold on m&m's but not the pancakes. The waitress asked my daughter if she wanted a m&m waffle instead and she could get them to put the m&m's on top but they wouldn't be cooked inside the waffle. My 4 year old was so happy, she even gave the waitress a hug. Waitress was great. Fast forward to the bill, the waffle that the waitress offered my daughter... was $9.99+.99¢ for the m&m's. I didn't say a word about it, I was so aggravated at this point with Sawyer's, it wouldn't have done any good. And once again, the waitress is following the rules. Everyone at the table all said it was a mediocre breakfast at best and we all should have went to Mama's Farmhouse for breakfast instead. Sawyers, DO BETTER. You are an eating establishment in a family friendly tourist town. BE FAMILY FRIENDLY. The rule about not being able to allow my husband join us when my cranky baby is catching a quick nap? That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard and quite offensive considering we are paying customers regardless. Now, when people ask me where to go and where to avoid in Pigeon Forge, Sawyer's will be at the top of the list to avoid.

Instead, we left wondering if we had somehow visited a completely different restaurant than everyone else. Let me start with the positives. The restaurant is beautiful. A tremendous amount of thought, money, and effort clearly went into the design. It's bright, inviting, and visually impressive. The hostess was also warm, friendly, and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Unfortunately, that's where things started heading downhill. We began with the fried deviled eggs. Now, this should have been a slam dunk. Fried? Deviled eggs? What's not to love? The answer: the breading. There was so much of it that it overwhelmed everything else. Instead of enhancing the flavor, it buried it. The deviled egg filling barely had a chance to introduce itself before getting tackled by the coating. Then came the Farmer's Garden Omelette, which both my wife and I ordered based on our server Katie's recommendation. What arrived was an omelette that seemed to have a strained relationship with vegetables. The spinach was still essentially raw, and the vegetables felt less like ingredients and more like something someone remembered at the last second. "Oh no, this is supposed to be a vegetable omelette." Tosses vegetables into center. Closes omelette. Problem solved. The result was an omelette where the eggs and vegetables never really came together as a dish. But the biggest disappointment wasn't the food. It was the service. Our server disappeared for extended stretches despite the restaurant being nearly empty. Water glasses sat empty. No tea refills. No check-ins. At one point I started wondering if she'd been recruited into a witness protection program. The only time my iced tea was refilled was when I finally asked for the check. That's generally not the point in the meal when you're hoping service suddenly kicks into gear. What makes this experience so frustrating is the potential. The restaurant looks fantastic. The location is great. The ownership has a proven track record nearby. But on this visit, the food execution and service simply didn't match the reputation. Disappointed. Not the breakfast experience we expected. And in a town overflowing with outstanding breakfast options, that's a tough miss. Two stars. Try another breakfast spot. In Gatlinburg, you have plenty of excellent choices.
