After getting a deal on a (Restaurant.com) gift certificate for Buddy'z, my mom, great aunt and I decided to put it to use last night. We ordered fried mushrooms ($6.75) and fried mozzarella cheese sticks ($6) as appetizers. The mushrooms were plentiful but a little less crispy than we're used to. The cheese sticks were far less plentiful - 8 sticks oddly paired and arranged every 1/4 around the plate. Service was a little slow, but it was dinnertime (6:30) and the restaurant was about 1/2 full. One of the appetizer plates that was already on the table had a big chunk of red food on it...gross. Thankfully the other three were clean. We had to ask for more plates after the appetizer plates were cleared...maybe we were supposed to use the same ones? We ordered an 18" thin crust with sausage, mushrooms, and extra cheese. It was hard to find the mushrooms, and it definitely didn't look like there was extra cheese (bad for my mom, but fine for me since I love saucy pizza). The crust looked very hand-tossed and was a little uneven around the crust, resulting in some of the crust being charred. The pizza was just OK; overall kind of bland and skimpy on everything except the sausage. For $2.25 per ingredient (= $25 dollar pizza), I'd have expected better. In all, it was just "OK"; I wouldn't rush back unless a friend or family member insisted. read more

Here's what went well, Tried the fried calamari for an appetizer. It was seasoned well and not oily, the portion size was appropriate too. The pizza really is good! We ordered both a deep dish and a thin crust. Both were hot and tasty. The table next to us had a salad that looked really yummy I would order one next time. Here is what could be better: There is not enough room for waiting. This place is busy so don't go there starving because the wait times are long. Everyone is standing in front of a revolving door squeezed together. Here's what must be better: The bartenders are really busy serving the wait staff and the regulars that sit at the bar. If you are standing waiting to order a beer it could be 10 minutes before they acknowledge you, as they are busy chatting with the regulars. If they know you - you get great service otherwise be prepared to stay thirsty. read more

So there's really only one reason I go to Buddyz and that's because of the chopped salad! It is so yummy and feeds three people! I'm writing this review today because of the price they charge for soup. The charge you $4.99 for a small container of soup and they call it a large. Most places you go to are $2.99 for that size of soup. The prices are not very reasonable to begin with. And not to mention the soup was, okay....not even that great for what they charge. We ordered pizza from Buddyz on Thursday. We ordered the ladle shore dr and it was by far the best pizza I've had. Because of that we decided to stop for an early dinner today which was also great. My wife said it was one of the best chicken sandwiches she's had and I had the meatball that was very tasty as well. As we were packing up the owner Sean or Shawn came up and asked if the kids wanted ice cream because they were well behaved. That surprised me on two counts, as the kids were never asked if the wanted ice cream and that the kids were behaved. This was such an appreciated gesture. I'd definitely come again because everyone is enjoying what they do. Also btw I didn't get her name but our waitress was fantastic as well read more

I find this to be a very good pizza joint. They have some very tasty pies but they are generally busy and it takes a long time to get served. They are also very pricey for pizza but I guess you pay for the quality. The different types of pizza offer very interesting flavors. read more

We went to Buddyz on a Friday night, on a friend's recommendation. BIG mistake!! We arrived around 6:30. They weren't very busy, but they were steady. There were 3 female employees at the front register, and they saw us walk in. No greeting, and they were all giggling about something. After about 5 mins, I walked closer to the register and asked if we could be seated now!! They did jump right to it, and day us. After about 15 mins, a waitress came and took our drink order, then our food order when she returned. Our pizza came in a timely manner, but soon we agreed that they could have kept it!! It was inedible! There was little sauce, and the crust hard and chewy. We looked under our pieces, and there were burnt items stuck to the crust... The crust, itself, wasn't burnt, but there was old cheese, or other old food stuffs from the oven burnt TO our crust!! We will not return!! Horrible service, and horrendous pizza!! read more

So we ordered from Buddyz in Mchenry last night. While I am sick we order out because I don't feel like cooking. Every single time they mess up. Many times we have called in, told them they made a mistake, NEVER asked for a credit (never got one by the way) and the managers argue with you and tell you that you are wrong. They are expensive food so it's a treat to order from them! I do LOVE their pizza because they offer a gluten free option. No place in Mchenry that I know of does. When I tell you they mess up every time we order, I am not kidding. It's become a joke. Usually we leave it be unless it messes with my order because I can't eat many things because of my stomach. I get sick. The last few times we have taken pictures of the food and even sent it to them. One manager in particular gets super nasty, her name is Tiffany. After telling her I don't want a replacement burger, she will sent someone out an hour later with a new one (not sure if it's out of spite?) and send it out. This last time (yesterday) order screwed up AGAIN) I called and this time she asks me "what do you want me to do?" I said " at this point I really would like to get a credit for the mistakes on both burgers because I threw it out" She says " You want me to give you a $55 dollar credit? I guess I can go that." I said " I don't think the two hamburgers really justifies a $55 dollar credit, but if you want to do that ok?" She says with complete attitude "yeah neither do I for messed up ingredients but apparently we do that a lot with you guys. We can't seem to make you happy" Right then and there I had enough. When you spend a lot of money to order food (like I don't know nearly $12 for a burger that's wrong, a half hard half soggy bun with messed up ingredients and you have an intestinal disorder that you can only eat certain things and just recovered from surgery and wanted to treat yourself and still are in pain and someone gives you total shit for screwing up) you expect your food to be right and at least to have a manager to be understanding and at LEAST apologetic. This place NEVER apologizes, THEY ARGUE. To make matters worse, the OWNER calls this am (mind you not once have they given us a credit! They replaced a pizza once we bought for friends to say THANK YOU to them which was a $27 dollar pizza they screwed up and argued with my friends husband, the manager was Josh. And Tiffany sent us out a hamburger lol after we had spent hundreds of dollars ordering from them btw!) He doesn't apologize this am, he tells us he are banned from ordering from them. Not that he is sorry they keep messing up (we have pictures and even the manager last night repeated that the order was taken correctly but it wasn't made correctly. So it wasn't the server error but cooks error) but that WE are to blame. After calling the other locations, we have learned they separated from Mike the owner because he is difficult to deal with. He is a bully. He is a nasty person. Not ONCE did he apologize for messing up anything. When someone orders something and says NO cheese because they have a dairy allergy, and you send them something loaded with cheese and the ticket says NO CHEESE, is that my fault? Am I hard to please? I don't ever do this, but for me to be blamed for being hard to please and the owner to call me and to tell me I am not allowed to order from them after spending literally hundreds a month from their establishment and never getting credited from them for their mistakes is a disgrace. Mike should be ashamed of himself. Way to go Buddy's of Mchenry. This is not the last you have heard from me. You will also not see a penny of that $55 dollars because I will dispute the charges. read more

I ordered a deep dish pepperoni pizza tonight with a side of calamari. The calamari was very tough and the breading was pretty bland. I couldn't find any taste of pepperoni in my pizza, and tomatoes seemed like canned whole tomatoes. I haven't had Buddyz in awhile, and I'm not sure I'll go back anytime soon. read more

First off if this was a year ago or even 6 months ago this place would be getting 5 stars...well for the food at least the service on the other hand isn't the best. Anyways my wife and used to love making the drive from Wauconda here for the deep dish pizza because it was absolutely amazing until probably about 6 months ago I'd say when supposedly they got a new cook or something and the pizza has no gone to hell. We went there a week ago and ordered the something we always do which was mozzarella sticks and a deep dish pizza and even the mozzarella sticks were nasty. A week ago tonight friends, my wife and I stopped at Buddyz in McHenry to grab a bite to eat. What started as a spur of the moment "go out for pizza" ended as a really quality evening and excellent food. Quality service, food, wines, entertainment and hospitality! Our pizza and the chopped salad were both great in taste and quantity. They were perfect for the four of us. The owner even stopped by and chatted a couple times and brought us a sample of a new red blend they recently brought in. Very good! If you want good pizza, this may be a good place for take out, because the pizza IS really good (like Lou Malnati's). That's the only reason why I gave them 2 stars. However....everything else basically sucks. - The music was BLARING to the point where we couldn't hear each other talking. - Not sure who our server was because we had about 3...and they all were inattentive. We had to ask for refills and plates, for the check, we were never checked up on, and they never introduced themselves.We waited forever for everything. - We didn't want to sit outside, so we purposefully asked to be inside. They sat us nect to the sliding door that leads to the deck. The kept leaving the door open so wasps were getting in. Not a pleasant eating experience. We even asked them to keep the door shut and they ignored us. - The girls that work there look like they are ready to go to bed (or just rolled out of bed) - sweatpants, sweatshirts, boots...and it was 80 degrees out. They need t-shirts like the guys. - The plates were way too tiny for our pizza (they were appetizer size). We asked for extra sauce on the side and it was served cold. We asked for lemons with the water. They didn't bring them so we had to ask again. Minor details. This is what it comes down to. Your food can be great, but if your service sucks, then your restaurant sucks. I shouldn't have to do more work than you do when I'm paying to be there. The staff needs to be trained, and a manager needs to be present. We all agreed that we wouldn't be coming back. read more

I've never had problems with this pizza place until tonight. I usually dine in but today I ordered delivery and it was completely awful. I ordered 1 large pizza, a salad, wings, and mozzarella sticks - total was $75! My pizza was well near burnt, the moz sticks were soggy, the $13 salad was made with shredded lettuce, and old peppers, and the wings were not even lukewarm. Any other time I have made a visit to Buddyz I thought the food was phenomenal but tonight proved otherwise. I'd much rather have ordered Rosati's. Awesome pizza! Went for the first time last night with a big group ... had several different types of pizza both thin and deep dish. It was outstanding! The deep dish was especially good ... I'm going to go as far as saying it was up there with some of my fav's (Lou's and Giodano's). Great apps too ... cheddar cubes and pizza chips with Italian salsa (which was essentially bruschetta)! I'm a huge pizza snob and this place ranks way up there! So glad we tried it and we will be back. Well done Buddyz! read more

Growing up on the Southside of Chicago, I became accustomed to excellent local pizza joints. Once I moved to McHenry, I struggled for years to find that Southside pizza taste. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Halftimes pizza, but it was never as good as what we had on the Southside. Key in Buddyz! The pizza is EXCELLENT. It was like I finally found a home for my long lost Southside taste buds. They have some excellent house combo pizzas and overall their food is excellent. So happy I found a local place that wasn't a pizza chain to get some of that Southside flavor. read more
