Finally tried this place for a light breakfast option and we really enjoyed the location and atmosphere. The place was packed but it wasn't too noisy or distracting, it's obviously a very popular meeting place. We had a breakfast sandwich and avocado toast and both were delicious. I'll definitely be trying their other avocado toasts like the fig and goat cheese option next time. Coffee was also delicious and came out perfect. read more

Second visit was another success. The tiramisu latte was absolutely delicious and tasted just like tiramisu. I tried the Hammer Time sandwich and it was so tasty! The sourdough bread was soft and perfectly toasted. My husband had what was essentially a BLT and he loved it. The mayo gave it a wonderful taste. I can't wait to try more! read more

We were looking for a local breakfast joint and found them. I ordered avocado toast with an egg for extra money, all together $13, expensive, my wife ordered roasted veggies and goat cheese on a toast with honey. Food portion is small compared to the price, it would be good to add more veggies on the toast. They have a good outside sitting area, inside is pretty crowded and there's no waiter service, you order and help your self. read more

Came in for my first time today and am looking forward to coming back again soon, hopefully with a little more time to enjoy the ambiance. I'd been wanting to come in for a while and see the space since the previous business that had been here closed, and it's definitely different than before. Very open, which made me miss the more cozy vibes from before, but very clean and aesthetically pleasing. I took my items to go and went with the tiramisu latte and the lox toast. Both were very very good, and I will for sure be having this latte again in the future. The lox was good and the only reason I'll be ordering something different next time is that there are so many other yummy-sounding offerings on the menu, so I don't want to start a "usual" order without trying everything else first. Looking forward to coming again soon and maybe bringing a book or a journal on a quieter day. The staff were very friendly and patient, and I could see that they were maintaining a clean work space and keeping everything tidy, which is always a welcome sight anywhere there's food being served. I recently hosted an event at this venue and had a mixed experience overall. The communication leading up to the event was good, which made planning feel smooth and organized. However, upon arrival, the space was not fully set up--tables and chairs were still being arranged, and we had to work around staff while putting up our decorations. Unfortunately, setup was still ongoing even as guests began to arrive, which created a stressful start to the event. The food itself was absolutely delicious, which was a highlight. That said, the service did not match the quality of the food. For a party of 28 people, only one small pitcher each of water, 2 sodas, and coffee was provided, and staff did not check in for refills. I had to repeatedly leave the event to go to the front counter to request more drinks. Food service was also poorly managed. Some items were available when guests arrived, but the presentation was lacking, with half-empty trays that didn't look very appealing. Additionally, sandwiches were brought out gradually--1 tray at a time--as they were being prepared during the event. This resulted in some guests eating while others had to wait, which was frustrating and not ideal for a hosted gathering. As the host, I found it disappointing that I had to step away multiple times to follow up on food and beverages instead of being able to enjoy time with my guests. There were simple solutions to prevent these issues from happening- prepare the sandwiches before the guests arrive or at least have the ingredients together/ready to make the food so there is not so much of a delay between bringing out the trays and making guests wait. Providing more drink pitchers would have been a very simple fix as well. The employees kept telling me they were prepared for 33 people and I do believe that if we did have 33 people, it would have been an even worse experience. Lastly, I was unhappy with how the end of the event was handled. Our contract stated we had the room from 12-3, plus additional time for setup and takedown. However, by 2:30, staff had already started removing tablecloths and moving our belongings, making it feel like we were being rushed out despite having paid for the full time. Overall, while the food was great and communication beforehand was solid, the execution on the day of the event and the level of service fell short of expectations and I would not recommend hosting an event here. I would recommend stopping in for a sandwich or a cup of coffee though! read more

OMG we went to Toast and Roast and I have to say it was the first and best nova lox I have had since I moved up here from Skokie back in 1991! It is adorable and comfortable. The staff are attentive and helpful ....the prices are reasonable, the menu has variety for everyone, the food has very generous portions and the coffee is very, very delicious! Had the best lunch at Toast & Roast Cafe in McHenry! The coffee is absolutely delicious- the honey bear and island mocha were our favorites! Every bite of each dish from the Good Morning McHenry to the Boom Chicka Boom to the cutest mini Dutch pancakes with strawberries and cream was amazing! My personal favorite was the Cucumber Manipesto toast; I'll be dreaming about that tonight! The cafe itself is beautiful- I think I want to renovate my bathroom to match theirs! And the service was over the top; they were so considerate of us coming in with an infant and toddler- and the mess we tried not to make! My wife and I were looking for a quiet restaurant to kill some time and get a light supper Friday night in McHenry. There are a couple sports bars on Green Street, DC Cobbs and a new place, Toast and Roast. We like DC Cobbs but decided to try the brand new Toast and Roast and we were very pleased. Wife had a avocado toast, I had a hammer sandwich (I think) toasted in the oven which is what I was looking for. It's a relaxing place with a side room with seating, and a place where the piped-in music is low volume so it's easy to talk to and hear those at your table. There's no distracting TV on the wall. The staff is attentive. They're just getting off the ground, so not everything is on the suspended menus yet, but they promised complete printed menus coming shortly. The ice cream freezer had just arrived on Friday. The fruit slushies look to be a great summer treat. When we got home, we checked out their Facebook page and were disappointed that we didn't meet Tyson, the employee of the month, a Rottweiler (we're Rottie fans). Next time.
