We recently held our 35th class reunion at Buddy's Pizza in Dearborn, and they did an outstanding job accommodating our group. From the planning to the service, everything was seamless, and we truly appreciated all of their efforts. Our server was absolutely amazing, friendly, attentive, and always making sure everyone had everything they needed. It's hard to find service that attentive, and it made our gathering even more enjoyable. The food was fantastic! We shared the famous 4-piece cheese Detroit-style pizza and a fresh house salad, and I ordered the lasagna with marinara. Everything was hot, flavorful, and exactly what you'd expect from Buddy's. Thank you to the entire team for helping make our reunion such a memorable event. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back. I wouldn't hesitate to host another gathering here. When I travel I want to experience different regional favorites. So this was the first attempt to try actual Detroit style pizza. I'm a real picky person when it comes to pizza but I am open minded enough to try different foods. New York style thin crust has always been my favorite (New Yorker here!) the. My wife is from Chicago I have a favorite pizza from that area and it ain't UNO's! This was a good tasty pizza I do love the cheesy crusty edges. I opted for the old fashioned pepperoni which is placed on top of the sauce and cheese. Great crunch, oozy cheese, sauce was awesome, all together great Detroit pizza (sadly this was my first one) if anyone can recommend THE BEST. I will drive around town to get it! Posting because I found an amazing halal hack for non pork eaters. I have always been jealous of the antipasto salad because it traditionally comes with ham and salami, but now you can sub halal pepperoni! Why is this extra amazing you ask? Because it comes with the Wisconsin brick cheese that is cool, creamy, and has a delightful chewy texture. I just love the way it's chopped. We had Jillian as our server tonight and she was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, hooked us up with our pepperoni substitute for the salad, and brought us out a new pizza when our first round was way over cooked. First stop in Eastern Michigan is always this location of Buddys. I love the Detroit pizza. Ruth took care of a group of 6 asking for seperate bills with a smile. She was friendly and engaging. My only complaint was the absence of Coke products. Ruth offered to go to her car so I could have a Coke Zero but would not have been allowed to so I settled for a Diet Pepsi. The buddy's bread was so good I would've only ordered a basket of that, it was warm, buttery, covered in parm, and honestly better than the actual pizza. The pizza itself was okay, I ordered a pepperoni deep dish. It wasn't bad, but it almost tasted frozen and was kind of a disappointment when I had traveled so far to try it. The crust was decent and the best part but the flavor didn't blow me away. That said, service was fine it was kinda empty when I went during lunch hours and I didn't get a refill the entire time I was there which was disappointing. We tried a classic 8 square Detroit style pizza If you aren't familiar, Detroit style pizza is a thick crusted rectangular pizza that typically has some of the cheese carmelized. We wanted to try Detroit-style pizza, and Buddy's was the place that kept popping up. A classic old school pizza diner that has stood the test of time. I had to do some research about what defines a Detroit-style pizza: rectangular in shape; a chewy and airy crust; and caramelized cheese (ideally Wisconsin brick cheese) along the crust edges. Buddy's checked all those boxes. Wasn't too crazy about the appetizers, but the pizzas were amazing! The antipasto salad was the very definition of pizza salad with a random assortment of toppings, but I did appreciate the freshness of the vegetables. The minestrone soup had a thicker consistency than I was used to and reminded me of a chowder rather than a more classic tomato-based soup. For the pizzas, we had the Detroit Public TV (pepperoni and cheese) and the Super 6 Mile (ham, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, green peppers). I'm normally biased towards more toppings, but in this case, I actually liked the classic pepperoni and cheese one more. For dessert, we couldn't pass up on their cream puff sundae. First time trying Detroit Style Pizza! This was my first stop after landing and I was seriously craving pizza! I ended up at this spot and ordered The Detroiter. It definitely hit the spot and met all my expectations. The pizza came out super fresh like, the box was burning hot. The cheese was perfectly chewy and the spices were on point. I ordered a side of ranch to dip it in and wow... sooo bomb. It took about 15 minutes to make. It was worth the wait. Pizza was fantastic! I got the 4 square spicy Italian pizza and it was thick and flavorful! My only negative comment was the evening I went (7:30 PM), it was nowhere near busy but my server was very unattentive. I finished my food, after waiting for a while I finally asked another server for a to go box. That server never brought it either. She never even came out of the back then about 10 minutes passed and she came out with the check. I was eating solo so it wasn't a wait time for a big part to finished. This place is right in my backyard to say, but I haven't been there in years since I went plant based and didn't see any vegan pizza options on their menu. I decided to give it a try anyway and was pleasantly surprised that they were happy to accommodate me by substituting the cheese with the plant based cheese (Dayia). I ended up getting a four square margarita pizza and I have to say it was delicious! The pizza had for me the perfect amount of sauce and cheese (Dayia has come along way with their cheese and it is now pretty flavorful and melty) mixture. That coupled with the crunch of the crust and the perfect thickness of the dough made it very tasty. I was very impressed with the service too. The host was friendly and we got seated quickly. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and when she was not 100% sure she checked with the kitchen. She also was very diligent and caught that the pizza originally got made non vegan so they promptly made another and the manager came and apologized to us and took it off our bill which truly not necessary but a pleasant surprise. As for the ambiance the place has not changed since I used to frequent it back in my non vegan days but that's not a bad thing. I love the sports mural on the back wall featuring the 84 Tigers (one of my favorite teams of all time), and it has plenty of televisions if you're looking to watch a game. The place also has a nice bar area if you're looking to grab a drink with a friend or two. Overall, it was a great experience and I will definitely be stopping back in. I loved the atmosphere of this place and all the pictures. It has such a nostalgic feel of a pizzeria. There is also lots of space to spread out and relax so you aren't right on top of everyone else. Our server was really friendly and patient with us as we wanted to order the right thing. We ended with a Vernor's float which was really good. For the price, this is a lot of food. Buddy's supposedly has one of the best Detroit style pizzas. It's sauce on top of the cheese instead of the other way around. We were meeting my hubby's friend here. They shared the All-Corner 8-Squared $22.99. I got the lunch special 1/2 pasta, signature side salad and buddy bread $9.99. I chose spaghetti and antipasto salad. The spaghetti was dry and the antipasto needed more dressing. I would pass on those and just get the pizza. The pizza is what they're known for and I can see why. The pizza was so good. The crust is deep dish, so the sides of the crust is super crispy. Their red sauce and cheese was delicious. They opted for no toppings. His friend said that the toppings made the pizza soggy. The welcome was not exactly warm when entering the establishment. It took awhile for us to be noticed. We were seated right away and took a bit for the waitress to come over. The soup was warm, definitely not hot but it was tasty. The buddy bread (garlic sticks with marinara) were good but the marinara was cold it would have been better warmed or even room temperature. The salad was rather large compared to what I was expecting. The cheese used is bold. The 4 piece pizza was good. The crust was baked to perfection. The sauce was had a bold flavor. Made my first visit to Buddy's Pizza in Dearborn. This place was Flippin awesome ordered the eight square cheese and sausage and the thin crust eight square cheese and pepperoni both absolutely delicious 100% one of the best Detroit style pizzas I've ever had obviously in Detroit, so it taste better. Service was great , plenty of tables atmosphere was really cool to be in. It felt like you were definitely in a Detroit pizza style restaurant. I'm a big fan of Detroit style pizza. If I had Buddy as a buddy I'd be eating substantially more of it. I picked up a four slice "Detroit Public TV" pizza and it was bangin. The cheese was nicely baked into the crust, the pepperonis had the perfect amount of curl. A few areas did look slightly off in the ratio of sauce to cheese, but the taste was still spot on. I picked up my order so I didn't get a chance to experience the table service, but the pick-up attendant was friendly. I'll definitely go back next time I'm near Dearborn. read more

Great pizza. We got thin crust (still 1/2-3/4" thick. Rectangular, apparently was Detroit is famous for. The pizza is put together different from what I am use to - crust, then cheese, pepperoni. I am told they use white Wisconsin Cheddar for the cheese which gives it a different, but very good, taste from the usually mozzarella cheese. The 'pep' was the small, 1" size that cups when broiled. Excellent taste with no 'after effects.' We also split an 'Antipasto Salad' with lettuce, Wisconsin cheddar (cubed), 2 or 3 kinds of Italian deli meet sliced into little pieces and 'oil and vinegar' dressing. There might have been a few pieces of tomato - I am not sure. Unlike the antipasto salad I make, there were no olives and no Pepperoncini (I am going to sneak some in next time). Most importantly, they had Vernors ginger ale. I had this meal on two consecutive nights. The Service was excellent both times - friendly and efficient. It is within walking distance to the Dearborn Hampton Inn. Buddy's pizza has replaced my lifetime favorite from Rubino's in Bexley, Ohio (since 1964). I can't until next year's Oktoberfest in Frankenmuth. I will eat a Buddy's pizza before and after the Oktoberfest!! read more

Our wait staff was very knowledgeable and she recommended some items immediately. Bread was absolutely amazing. I would totally eat it every time if I lived near. Pizza was good. I am so used to crunchy edges, but this one was what you want from well done pan pizza. Very easy to eat, nothing that will break your jaw, gums, or crowns while you chew it down. Buddy's is supposedly the birthplace of Detroit-style pizza so I had to stop by one of their locations during my recent visit to Detroit. You can order either a 4 square or 8 square size, and I ordered a 4-square of the Super 6 Mile pizza for $17.49. This Detroit-style pizza a nicely crispy raised crust (not as deep as Chicago deep dish though). This pizza had pepperoni, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and ham, although it was generally a bit light on the toppings, especially the pepperoni. That being said, the Wisconsin brick cheese was delicious and nicely melted on the pizza. We also tried the Buddy Bread ($5.99) as a starter. This was a bit underwhelming. While the bread was soft with a bit of cheese and garlic, it was not as flavorful as I would have hoped for. They definitely could've benefited from more cheese, garlic, and some melted butter on there too (instead of the small butter packets on the side). The place is decorated very much in a Detroit kind of style with Detroit-themed decor all over the walls. There is a very chill vibe with plenty of seating available. The service was a bright spot at Buddy's. Shoutout to our waiter Billy for being extremely friendly and helpful - he definitely made sure we were having a good experience. The hostess was also very friendly. The service speed was pretty quick. Overall, aside from a few points for improvement, I enjoyed my time at Buddy's. I hope this review, is beneficial to somebody. Because I wasn't planning on making a review on any of my stops in Detroit. However, here goes. Family style well known restaurant. A must stop. The menu includes everything. From a well array of appetizers to desserts, and a full bar. My fav was the mule. Wait staff is fun and patient to first timers. I enjoyed everything I had, had the 4 ct margarita pizza. The Detroit pizza is not overwhelming on the dough and toppings. This was our first visit to Dearborn Michigan and heard that Detroit had good pizza's. We saw on that The Henry Ford ticket gave a discount for Buddy's Pizza. Unfortunately I didn't have the ticket so didn't get a discount, but tried their pizza anyway. We ordered an 8 square Sicilian pizza with salad and IPA beer. We really liked the crust of the pizza, and they don't hesitate to load on the cheese. Overall everything was great and highly recommend this restaurant. First Detroit style pizza in Michigan for me. It's pretty solid in terms of the flavor. I felt the toppings lacked a bit for me but overall if I was in a pinch I would get a quick bite to eat. I appreciate it not being overly salty. The buffalo chicken had cilantro which was an interesting touch that I enjoyed. Pepperoni pizza could have been more generous in toppings. It's more on the saucier side but I would prefer that over something dry. The salads are a bit basic but nothing to complain about if you aren't being nit picky. However I do wish there was more of an abundance of toppings. Some slices had barely three fairly sized pieces if even that for the pizzas with protein. read more

The soup is a meal in itself with plenty of vegetables and very thick. I shared a pizza with a friend who likes Green Lantern pizza the best but he had never tried Buddy's before. I asked him which he liked better and he said it would be hard to decide because he likes them both.
