It's nicely located in the middle of the airport, just past the Terminal C security point, and the food is good! I had the chicken and waffles and I really like how they also added bacon and eggs to it, it really elevates it, and for $20.50, it's not too unreasonable for a sit down airport restaurant. Service was unfortunately a bit slow. I had to wait quite a bit when the restaurant was nearly empty for my food and check which was disappointing, but thankfully my flight was a few hours away so it wasn't a concern for me, but I would be nervous if I only had a short time. I hope they can improve it. The actual quality of service was great, I just wish it was a bit quicker. Overall I enjoyed it, and would definitely go back. read more

This was definitely one of the best American airport restaurants I've been to in recent memory!! Not only is the food here delicious, but the dining atmosphere doesn't feel very chaotic. There was limited space to store bags and outlets available if needed. My waiter was very curt/dry and not the friendliest, but service was attentive enough. I had a 2-hour layover in Philly, so a perfect amount of time to indulge in an airport meal. My bags and I were promptly seated at a 2-top with a view of the bathrooms. The menus were on the table, so I was ready to order the Lakeside cocktail and the Old World Burger when my server arrived. I wouldn't order it with a tight connection as it seemed to be made-to-order. The burger was delicious, one of the best I've had recently, the fries were tasty, and the drink was top tier. Across the board one of the best airport food experiences in my travels in the US. I had their Old School Burger and I will say it was hot, fresh, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The bun was fresh and toasted, the burger was seasoned well and delicious, and the fries were excellent! Even the service was fantastic! Attentive and really polite and upbeat! My son and I ate here yesterday and he did not get sick. I had the yogurt with granola and ended up being very ill, both in the airport and on the flight home. But that's not where the story starts. Due to lines with TSA (still showing up for work even when they were not getting paid) we got there very early and ended up having breakfast. Service was slow but I know now they were understaffed bc a cook didn't come in and only had two wait staff. The first problem came when I paid my $34.20 bill with cash and they only gave me $15. I was told by the waitress that they don't give change for less than a dollar. So she would've gotten 80 extra cents from me and countless other diners? A very strange policy. I ended up coming up with a quarter to cover my $.20. She could not give me a nickel and change, but did give my dollar back and I told her to keep the change plus I tipped her about 19%. This all struck me as a very bizarre policy I asked to talk to the manager who came out of the kitchen with his cooking gloves on. He did not seem pleased to be talking to me and he said yes, they don't give change. He relaxed when I said that this was a very strange company policy and recognized this was probably not his policy. I asked for another phone number of someone higher up cause I think that is a bizarre policy to not take legal tender. And then called another location and they also confirmed that they do not get coin change when someone pays with cash. They said it's because they aren't making pennies anymore and I said yeah but they're still making quarters, nickels, and dimes. Then I left a message for someone and it was the airport location GM on his day off. The GM was very kind and seemed confused by this policy and angry that he didn't know about it because he said there's definitely change available in the restaurant. Anyway, we had a nice conversation and he seemed honestly concerned that his restaurant was not issuing proper change. My recommendation to the consumer is pay with a credit card and this won't be a problem. You will be charged 3% for healthcare. There is a sign about that on the registered stand. No sign about not issuing change. Unfortunately, I started to feel ill after my meal here and was very sick for the rest of the day and into this next day. I'm hoping that this was a fluke, but I always suggest restaurants to change their gloves more often and don't use the same rag to wipe off the counter for hours on end. read more

Generally I find Bud and Marilyn's menu very unhealthy. This was for breakfast at the Philly airport. The only healthy thing on the menu was the steal cut oatmeal which they were out of. I got scrambled eggs which I don't think were real eggs. I had shredded chicken which was good and the breakfast potatoes were the prepackaged, frozen potatoes like "Ore-Ida". . Bud & Marilyn's is a prominent entry in the Valerie Safran/Marcie Turney culinary stable of highly successful 13th Street corridor eateries, which also includes Barbuzzo, Little Nonna's and, most recently, Darling Jack's Tavern. Bud & Marilyn's, however - if you'll pardon the continuing analogy - is a horse of a different color. The restaurant is unabashedly retro. Named after Ms. Turney's grandparents, who ran a restaurant in Ripon, Wisconsin, the moment you cross the threshold, you feel like you've just stumbled into an out-of-control party in your uncle's rec room. Vintage decor, clunky glassware, and an odd assortment of knickknacks all add to the pleasant illusion of another time and place... as do the updated riffs on a host of classic cocktails... The food, on the other hand, is retro in name only. In some cases, items listed on the menu simply provide a springboard for the infusion of a host of upscale/updated ingredients. I mean, no one would ever accuse dishes like the previously sampled Falafel Crusted Cauliflower of pressing too many nostalgic buttons. Embellished with serrano chili, cilantro, mint, toasted sesame seeds, splash of lemon, and a cooling cucumber raita, this delicious starter is as contemporary as it gets. It was also - unlike many other items in the restaurant's repertoire - modestly portioned and marvelously light on the palate. The great majority of the dishes I've observed here are both heavy and heavy-handed. Heavy with regard to portion-size, preparation, and impact on one's delicate peristalsis; and particularly heavy-handed with regard to presentation. Take the Grilled "Brick" Chicken, for example. I'm not one of those critics who believes that everything that proceeds out of the kitchen must resemble a work of art... but I do believe that any item of food ultimately placed before a diner should be at least semi-attractive. However, when this dish hit the table, my first thought was that it bore uncanny resemblance to the regurgitation of an endangered species. To paraphrase an old axiom: "The palate can only appreciate what the eye can endure." And there are occasions at Bud & Marilyn's when the eye must endure a great deal. Finesse, it should be noted, is not this restaurant's strong suit. Among the spruced up retro entrées, the Fontina & Chard Stuffed Meatloaf has the most to recommend it. The hefty loaf is upgraded with Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors' dry-aged beef and veal, a third-generation meat wholesaler based in North Bergen, New Jersey. The sautéed Swiss chard adds suppleness, the fontina a shot of oozy over-indulgence. The glaze is a ketchup concoction - just like mom used to make - that is caramelized in the oven. The meatloaf itself is a thing of beauty, dense but marvelously moist and beautifully seasoned. Accompaniments, however, vary in quality... The royal trumpet mushroom gravy presented in a vintage gravy boat (When's the last time you saw one of those?) is lusciously over-the-top. But Yukon Gold mashed potatoes are thin, watery, and lacking in flavor. And the carrots & peas look like they were dropped onto the plate from some undetermined height. Once again, the devil is in the details - and the kitchen doesn't quite get it. Dessert-wise, there are a number of ways to go... but nothing quite does the trick like a gargantuan wedge of sinfully decadent chocolate cake layered with peanut butter buttercream and embellished with chocolate ganache and mini-malt balls. If you're a confirmed lover of chocolate/peanut butter combos, as I am, you will find this outrageously rich dessert simply impossible to resist. And don't even think about tackling it by yourself, as my dining partner and I barely made a dent. This is a table-sharer if ever there was one... and simply not to be missed. In many ways, dining at Bud & Marilyn's is an incredibly frustrating experience. On some occasions, the kitchen acquits itself reasonably well; those irresistible Wisconsin Cheese Curds immediately come to mind, ditto the Warm Buttermilk Biscuits, and the Seared Sea Scallops and Fontina & Chard Stuffed Meatloaf. On the other hand, the kitchen's current philosophy of presentation appears to be "pile it on." The food is surprisingly heavy - on the eye as well as the palate - and, in many cases, lacks both focus and finesse. Bud & Marilyn's offers diners an interesting culinary journey down memory lane... I love Bud & Marilyn's, the original on Locust. Everything about it excites me, from the atmosphere, to the drinks to the menu. When I knew I would have some time to grab breakfast while flying out of Terminal C, I was excited because I knew they had one in the airport. It was about 8:30am and the restaurant, aside from a few people at the bar, was completely empty. Everyone seemed to be going for coffees or fast food in the airport. We entered the restaurant and were told we could sit wherever we'd like. We grabbed a spot out of the way in case our young son started getting restless. It took a long time for the server to drop some menus and even longer for her to come back with drinks (yes I ordered a beer at 8:45am to start my vacation). I'm not a breakfast fan but I love Bud & Marilyn's fried chicken and had somewhat of a sweet tooth this morning, so I opted for the Chicken and Waffles (with an over easy egg on top). The food came out and I thought: "this is going to be great, look at how good it looks". One bite and it was as if all of my hopes and dreams were obliterated. They have to be cooking the chicken ahead of time, this was by far some of the driest, most tasteless chicken I have ever had....I grew up in the midwest, I know what bad food is! The egg was cooked perfectly but could not rehydrate the sawdust texture of the fried chicken. I couldn't believe it. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as the original, but like pizza, even bad fried chicken is good; not this one. On the other hand, my five year old said his pancake was good and my wife enjoyed her waffle. So once again, it's just me being me. I had a long layover at the airport so decided to burn some time at this establishment. My server Adriel was amazing! She was very attentive and made sure I had a good experience. Her attitude helped make me feel better, because initially I was turned off by the filthy menu that was at my table (they are just left there and not handed to you my anyone). It had a dried up piece of food on it and some sort of liquid stains. It truly needs to be discarded. Negative aside, the food was pretty good. The food came out pretty fast (I know, they are in the airport and are likely always doing this). Extremely Mid as the kids like to say. I have not eaten at the real deal, but this airport outpost strikes me as the type of place that they lent their name to and not much else. The food is generic airport food for the most part. The wine list is quite poor. Despite having a bar, it is the type of place where when you ask for wine, they have 2 options. Beer selection is a little better, with a dozen of the ones you'd expect in a bottle and 5 or 6 drafts. They were out of all the locals on draught, though, so even though I was in Philly, I had a beer from California. The food is fine by airport standards; it's exactly what you can get at any properly operated airport restaurant. One Bright spot was the staff who were quite friendly and helpful. read more

Our waitress was the best and kept asking me if I needed another drink, of course! LOL The food was cooked fresh, so it was hot! The Fish and chips (fries) was hot and crispy outside. The Fried chicken sandwich has slaw and pickles and was equally as good. I will caution you on thinking that you can share the cheesecake; it's small and SO GOOD!! I was actually heading to another restaurant, but the menu at Bud and Marilyn's drew me in because I'm from Wisconsin and have trouble walking past Brandy Old Fashioneds and Cheese Curds. Ultimately, I didn't order the cheese curds after seeing them on a neighboring table--from my perspective, they looked a little punky--but I did order the Wisconsin Old Fashioned, which was just okay. I was leaning toward the fish and chips, but my server waved me off, saying that a lot of her customers weren't keen on them here. I really valued her honesty! I went with the tuna poke nachos on the specials menu. They were pretty good, but skimpy on the tuna. So, thumbs up to my server, but just meh on the food. read more

Came here because another restaurant rating site (GMap) had fantastic reviews. The music was blaring some Donna Summers b-side where she's just screaming at the top of her lungs. I asked the hostess if all the music is like this, and the family behind me busted out laughing in agreement. The hostess said no, the other songs are different. She sat us right next to the bar where there was a lot of foot traffic going by and bright lights. It was terrible. I don't think she considered that different seats are definitely far superior, but it was available... The next song came on: the theme to The Never Ending Story, by Limahl. I just could not do it. Great addition to the airport! It's not like your average airport restaurant, it feels more like an upscale mall restaurant. They have some classics from the original location on 13th street in Philly. We ordered the chicken noodle soup and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with fries. Both entrees were fresh, perfect tasting and definitely better than other generic airport over priced food. Service was prompt, attentive and just right. Service was fast and food was fresh and very good. All of the food around me looked delicious. I enjoyed the Nashville hot chx sand with fries. Fries were perfect. Crispy on the outside and so good. There is a nice range of sandwiches, salads, burgers, and soup. Additionally, they have some lovely specials, which is unusual for an airport menu. Great service and atmosphere. One person had the pork chop with grits, excellent; the second had the hangar steak. The steak was good but lacking on the sides; she kept looking for the fingerling potatoes and Brussels salad. There was a small mound under the steak. I had the short-rib stroganoff over pasta which in my opinion was tasteless. The beef was stringy instead of melt-in-your-mouth like short ribs should be. Also, the pasta was too al dente for me and the sauce was bland. There was a smear of horseradish crème fraiche along the side of the bowl which was delicious but good for two, three bites. Sherried mushrooms? A few scattered ones could be found. This dish was very disappointing. On a more positive note, we also had the steak tartare which was incredible! read more
