Delicious lunch with attentive service for a party of eight (two small, and six adult.). We thoroughly enjoyed our hamburger, chicken wings, shrimp & crab salad, "perfect salad" (kale) and kiddie burgers. The drinks were good: coffee, tea, and orange-guava juice. Desserts were a big hit, too: we shared a peach cobbler and a boysenberry cobbler, both a la mode. Our waitress was very nice, and very effective. Not only does Buck's have a great selection of breakfast foods, but their lunches will not disappoint anyone either. Every wall and ceiling is filled with nick knacks, American nostalgia, and things you may have found in a garage sale thirty years ago. There may be a wait on a Saturday morning, but it's worth it. The portions are hefty, and the food keeps your mouth wanting more. I have walked out FULL every time, and then tell myself - "next time I will eat less!" Yeah, right! read more

One of my favorite restaurants to go to. The design of the interior is so different. I would say its like TGIF style design, except 10 times more extreme. I first went to bucks a few years ago when my friend woke me up at 9am in the morning thinking it was my birthday. she was a day early actually, but she dragged my butt out of bed anyways. So she drives me to woodside, and at this point im thinking..."what the hell is there in woodside? trees?" but she took me to this place in a little town center type place. i still remember ordering the california chicken that day. it was delicious. i would say buck's food is interesting. some things i've never seen before at any other restaurant, but there are some things you can find at any other typical place. they have breakfast specials as well. my fav is the beef stroganoff because they use steak. its very tasty. also while youre there, you can take a picture with the big trout outside. read more

I've eaten here often, usually after hiking in Wunderlich or Huddart Parks. Their grilled artichoke stuffed with crab has been the best item I've ordered from them. Actually, I can't remember ever being disappointed in the food, but I have been frustrated to find a long wait on a weekend brunch and gone elsewhere. After a hike for dinner or late lunch it's a lot less crowded. It also feels a little pricey to me, but I assume that's Woodside's way of cutting down on the riff raff. Really fun environment. It's a kind of anything goes place. Decorated with such an assortment from my childhood--and even older than that! You'll also see all kinds of other diners dressed in their biking shorts, jodhpurs, a Medical dog, and two Companion dogs in their vests. Good, solid breakfasts and lunches. Grilled Dungeness crab and creese on French bread was really good. Great to surprise someone on their birthday. Wait staff all pick up some of the old instruments and "play" an excruciating rendition of "Happy Birthday" and it's fun. No wonder the VC's choose to meet there, but they're absent on the weekend. Simply put: Buck's is expensive and food is not good. So why would you go there? The quirky interior is not enough to make one shell out $30 for 2 for breakfast. Worse part of it? THEY CHARGE FOR SYRUP. How can you eat a waffle or pancakes without syrup? Waffle was bland, pancakes were too dense (not fluffy) and coffee cake was flavorless and also dense. Coffee was also expensive. To boot, the waitstaff acts 'cool' to go with the supposed interior, but it was contrived and very not cool. You are better served to find a true diner for good breakfast fare. read more

WE WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! Food: My husband and I went to eat at Buck's today. This place is way over priced for the cheap quality of food they are serve there. Half of our food came burnet and it was old and dry. They charge $3 for real maple syrup, when it should be free. When I left the place I was bloated because the food was so disgusting and low quality. Service: was way horrible than the food. Most of the people who work there have attitude, especially the tall white blonde lady with glasses. She sat us down with an attitude never brought water and milk that was requested for coffee. She kept yapping with her old costumers and while we sat there for half hour without water and milk. She seemed to have no manners at all. She never said Hi she never made eye contact and if we asked for something we would act like she didn't hear us. She brought me tea and no plate to put my tea bag after I was done steeping. She served us our food and never came to check if our food was good or everything was okay. We wanted to send our potatoes back, but no one ever came to ask if we needed anything else. So we had to eat burnet bad food and left there feeling sick to our stomachs. For this entire experience we paid $47,23. The worst breakfast and service we ever had. read more

Great service and our food was fantastic. There was no wait (at 10am on Saturday!) but there is quite a crowd now (11am). There is so many cool things to look at on the walls which, in my opinion, is the coolest thing about this place. Only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was that it is a little pricey ($4 for a cup of coffee, $5 for a side of bacon and most meals were over $10). We will likely be back though :) read more

More respectful and fair business practices are needed. When. approached staff to sit down outside for lunch, I was told they were full and it would be ten minutes. I waited outside the whole time at the check in stand. Within a few minutes a table just a few few feet away from me became available. Seconds later, three men walked up and sat down at this dirty, uncleared table without any staff saying a word to them. With the original hostess no where in sight inside or outside, I turned to staff outside and explained the situation. I was not prepared for the response, "We're full and you're just going to have to wait." Nothing else, so I left. I'm glad I'm not the three gentleman who knew they took a table while I was waiting and had been. I'm thankful too after owning and working in restaurants myself for many years, that my only and sole response to this situation would not have been what Buck's staff chose to do/say! read more

Bucks doesn't really cost that many (bucks). Food is good, breakfast is awesome, and the rest of the day is great as well. Not a formal place, go in jeans! If you have not been there, you won't be board. There is a ton to look at, on the walls, on the ceiling, all around. Wireless is inside, and you may see a horse tied up outside. Pros: Awesome brunch food in the hills. Cons: Long waits. This is a wonderful place to get breakfast or brunch. Buck's is nestled in the cute town of Woodside in the hills West of I-280. They have especially good Eggs Florentine and you can come experience a little funny part of Silicon Valley history. Try their fruit blintzes for a great dessert. The downside is that due to its popularity, you can be guaranteed a wait, sometimes up to 45 minutes. read more

Buck's has awesome desserts and good homestyle "American" food. Go for dinner. If you get there after 8pm, it's not so crowded. Margaret's Grilled Pork Chop is great if you're in the mood for homestyle cooking. Get the single portion - save room for dessert. The Chicken Picatta is also very good. This is often what brings me to Buck's ... ok ... that and dessert. The burgers are good, if you're in the mood. Get dessert at Buck's. My all-time favorite dessert is the massive slab of Mud Pie, served with hot fudge and fresh whipped cream. The Bread Pudding is awesome. I know what you're thinking ... bread pudding? Yeah, yeah, order it. Try it once and you'll believe me. The bread pudding is really good, and the sauce is awesome. As others have said, the decor is bizarre, but fun, I think. The staff can be fairly bizarre as well. Some of them have been working at Buck's for at least 10 years - maybe that explains some of it. Most of the staff are very nice, if you are nice to them, of course. AVOID AT ALL COSTS TELLING THE STAFF THAT IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY. If you make this critical error, the staff will assemble to annoy you and your fellow diners with a terrible song and terrible noise produced by various broken instruments hung around the restaurant. You have been warned. If you go for breakfast, expect "diner" food. While the dinner and lunch items have a California style to them, the breakfasts are heavy comfort food. Oh yeah, don't get the waffle. If you love waffles, by all means, don't order the waffle. It's awful, again and again. I've made better frozen waffles in the toaster at home. read more

Stopped in for a late breakfast alone. Took over 5 minutes for the waitress to come by. It took another 25 minutes to get pancakes & bacon....which she only went to check on since I mentioned I'd been there 30 minutes with only coffee. I would have mentioned it sooner, but she and the other waiters had disappeared. When the pancakes came they were way under-cooked in the center. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said she'd comp my meal. Didn't fel like I got an apology for the service, but at least I didn't have to pay for a crap meal. read more

Entering Buck's is like walking into a "Can You See What I See" book. Great atmosphere for kids and interesting for me, too. In fact, it gets most of its points for its cheesy decor, which includes such items as a life-sized boot sculpture, hanging from the ceiling an astronaut (also life-sized) and a tiger/hammerhead shark/robot shark creature, on a wall a framed 3 x 4' box of 25 or so pairs of bronze baby booties. Near the entrance there are some large plastic animals that the kids can play with and one giant plastic shoe that I actually saw one kid walking around in. And the list goes on... Sadly the food was only so-so. Not bad, but not great. I expected more for the hype. I got the BBQ bacon burger, and while it was tender, it had hardly any BBQ sauce. There was a huge mound of onion strings in it (not a bad thing) and a tiny dollop of BBQ sauce on those, and unfortunately they soaked up most of it so there was almost none on the rest of the burger. Plus, the side of the burger that did not have BBQ sauce was was just burger on bare bun. Why not put some sort of sauce on that side? Bare bun is so dry, I would have at least liked mayo or BBQ sauce on that side. I'm a sauce person, though. At least the service was pretty good, so even though it took a while to get someone's attention I was eventually able to ask for more BBQ sauce and they happily brought plenty more (though really, I think it's a fair assumption that someone ordering a BBQ bacon burger likes BBQ sauce enough to want more than a teeny bit in the first place). My main complaint about the burger, aside from the easy fix BBQ sauce problem, is it just wasn't that special. The flavor was fine, it was cooked fine, I enjoyed it just fine. But it didn't wow me. For the price ($13, if I remember right) it should be more than just okay. I could spend half that to get a burger and fries from Five Guys that are just as good if not better. Perhaps burger just isn't the right thing to order from Buck's. I'm sure I will go back and give it at least one more try at some point in the future since it's close to my house and it's entertaining for the kids. read more

What a interesting place. You really do spend more time looking at all of the decor than the food. This place is like a combination of Disneyland, Ripley's and the local carnival. The food was pretty good. My omelet came out wrong but our waitress had it fixed quickly and removed it from our bill. read more

I must admit, my absolute favorite lunch item here was their homemade veggie burger which they've stopped making for some reason. Seriously, I was so sad when I found out. I had my tastebuds set for it!!! Seriously, Bucks?? You replaced your delicious veggie burger with lameo Gardenburger or BocaBurger??? Boo on that. Buck's is one of those hidden gems... filling for both the eye and the palate. Eclectic decorations and great Americana comfort food. I wish the beef wellington special was on the menu all the time, even if the price was a tad bit high. It was delightful and melted in my mouth.(One of the few times I will break from my gluten free diet restrictions) Also Nadine is the best server/manager ever! It's nice to see when management also helps out with tables instead of sitting behind a counter like at some restaurants I''ve seen. She's honest and works hard at what she does! After a nice hiking at Wunderlick park, I stopped by at Buck's with my BF for our late breakfast. We loved this restaurant! The first character of this restaurant that I have to mention is their decor! It's almost like some kind of funky museum! If you have kids, they will love this restaurant! We didn't expect food quality so much because of the decor and other yelpers' review. But we liked their food a lot! It's nothing fancy but very honest, good food. We ordered Woodside omelette and coconut pancakes with berries (weekly special). Everything was really tasty and even their coffee was pretty good! We will definitely come back! read more

Stopped in at Buck's on Sunday 12/20/2014. I eat there maybe 3 to 4 times a year; usually for special occasions after church. It maintains its reliable quaintness in my book. The interesting decor, which has been much mentioned, maintains its charm even after the novelty of it wears off. The food is not the cheapest, certainly more expensive than a trip to the Pancake House or Holder's Country Inn (which in turn is more expensive than Denny's or IHOP), but still not zsa-zsa pricing unless you order a ton of grub. I never cease to delight in the menus and the things written on them. And I never cease to appreciate the rotating specials. But take that with a grain of salt, because I only eat there 3-4 times a year as I said. If you go there every weekend, maybe you see it differently. Having made mention of price and variety, let me say that the food is good. Really. So much more wholesome than most joints you would stop in for breakfast/brunch. On church days, I am usually craving breakfast during lunchtime; not having eaten before mass and all. Buck's thankfully provides it. Wholesome tasting yummy food while still being comfort-food worthy. If it seems like I'm not raving about anything, I suppose it's because I'm not. I just appreciate the place, enjoy going there when I can, and furthermore like that it's location makes every trip there into a nice occasion. Which really is more than enough for me. Awful! Just had dinner there after not dining there in years. Needless to say I was excited as I remembered Bucks being a fun, odd, and all around neat dining experience. Walked in and wasn't greeted right away. Asked for an outdoor table for 4. Won't do that again because it was more like a table for 100 if you count all the flies but hey, that's what you have to deal with when dining outdoors so can only be mad at myself. Anyway the food, my wife ordered the chicken tenders which looked like 10 inch long burnt breadsticks. They had absolutely ZERO flavor and the ranch dipping sauce tasted like milk with a little salt and pepper. We had also ordered a fried calamari appetizer and the calamari itself was undercooked and slimy and the breading wasn't sticking and fell apart as soon as it was touched. I ordered the Chinese Chicken salad and it was just ok. They put a TON of fried won-ton strips on top and give a decent amount of chicken but it seems dry and overcooked but salad also lacked cabbage big time. I will say that the dressing was very good. Very dissatisfied and probably wont be back. read more

We were out to enjoy the sunset on the coast, but typically, the coast was fogged in. We headed south on Canada Road past the Pulgas Water Temple and FiLoLi to Woodside finally pulling into Bucks. This place is fun to go just to see all the fun stuff hanging out. Oh, and the food is good too! Seriously - This place is one of those places that has boatloads of crazy stuff everywhere for decor. As a pack rat, I feel right at home. They have the strangest odds and ends from all over the world... rare coins, cards, photos, cement dogs, the statue of liberty, a narwhale tusk, an astronaut, airplanes, submarines, broken satelites, cowbot hat lamps, iguanas, antique swords and a bunch of other oddities. They make mimis and fridays look like a cheap flea market. This is a great place to bring kids, friends, business meetings, and that special someone who is having a birthday. The bring out the horns and accordians with all the hooplah and some killer ice cream sundays too. I have eaten here twice and enjoyed it both times. Good friendly Service. Yummy seafood. The signature Artichoke was a bit soggy for my taste, but the Shrimp and Crab on top were delish! read more

Mostly I like this place because the décor is fun to look at and can entertain the kids while waiting for the food. We have two kids (6 and 8) and have been coming here for years for breakfast. The portion sizes are generous and there are many choices. It's good for a casual lunch or dinner, too. I like sitting at the bar and chatting with the staff, everyone is friendly and efficient. Just had the "Texas" size plate of ribs. Quite good, but not awesome. Also, why mashed potatoes with this? Too much food. Bottom line: Better than average American food, family friendly and fun. Prices are a wee bit steep, but hey, it's Woodside. read more

I seem to be one of the few people on here who have not eaten breakfast at Buck's, only dinner. The dinner I had at Buck's recently was outstanding. The eclectic decor is warm and cozy and fits in nicely with the whole feel of Woodside (safe, rural, affluent). The food was great and the service was awesome. Calamari appetizer was delicious and came with onion rings. The macaroni and cheese was a tasty calorie bomb and the chicken piccata nicely done. Our waiter was extremely friendly and attentive as was the rest of the staff. I cant wait to try Buck's for breakfast! I had heard of Buck's years ago while searching for new places to try for breakfast. This one evening, we simply decided to go, even though it was dinner. This is a very friendly, down-to-earth and welcoming environment as well as an ongoing place for discussion simply about the decor. The restaurant is wall-to-wall conversation piece with tremendous about of wit weaved into each piece. We enjoyed the open face chili burger, french onion soup, and spinach salad which were all delicious and perfect for the recent chilly days that we have been experiencing. The staff was terrific. Friendly and witty, they seemed to enjoy conversations with their guests and attentive to all our needs. I am certainly am a fan and will absolutely return to enjoy the food and the people. read more

Bucks is a general purpose diner with the usual smattering of egg breakfasts, BLTs, club sandwiches, chili, and turf items. And like most diners the food is really not unlike something you'd get at Denny's but just a lot more expensive. A BLT w fries here is $14 if that's any clue. What makes bucks popular is its legendary association with venture capitalists and deal makers who have funded some big tech names here. Most people though just want to see what all the fuss is about. If you're a bored trend follower or an annoying weekend warrior cyclist who paid $$ for a jersey covered with racing sponsors, it's for you. If you're just hungry save your money. read more
