Charcuterie Board

Food and beers are great, but the service is lacking. It comes across as one of those places that if you're not a local known by the staff, you tend to get pushed down the service ladder. That's probably not the case or at least. I hope it isn't but that's the appearance. We were ignored and two couples that came in after us got service before we did. We weren't pushy or rude or anything of the sort. We were just waiting patiently. We've had really good service there before, but that seems to be the exception and not the rule. I like the one there, but you just can't count on the reliability of the service and that's disappointing.

If you're ready to experience a little taste of Germany then you have to head over to Buchners in Murray Hill! I've been going here for years but never sat down to a full authentic German meal until recently. I've been missing out because everything we had was delicious! They give speak easy vibes because you have to go through Black Hat Vapor Company to get there but that just adds to the mystique! Now that the weather is warming up, enjoying a dine in the Biergarten and be sure to check out their spring festival, the Bergkirchweih & 7-Year Anniversary from April 30th-May 3rd. It'll be 4 days of music, bier, games, and spring traditions and each day will bring something different, so go once or celebrate all weekend! Visit their Instagram for more information and enjoy!

Easiest 5/5. Service (Chase was our server!!), ambiance and food were all phenomenal. We can't wait to come back. This unique German concept is truly a hidden gem!

This is a Hidden Gem! You will be surprised once you walk in, Place looks super nice and cozy. Great atmosphere and friendly bartenders. I absolutely loved their 'Classic Wienerschnitzel', veal cutlet fried in clarified butter, with Bavarian potato salad and fresh cucumber salad. Food comes in big portions, fresh and tasty. They also have a great selection of draft beer.

This was my first time at Buchner's-- came for opening weekend of Oktoberfest with a small group of friends. The courtyard out back was setup very well--It was festive and the staff was dressed for the occasion. We mostly just came for drinks but ended up sharing a pretzel with cheese & mustard which was a large enough size for 2-3 people to share. They had 1 beer on draft outside but you could still order all draft beers on the menu and they would bring from inside (which took a little longer to get). They periodically had raffle drawings, and I won (a hat & jar of honey)! It was a fun experience, and I would definitely go back

Having grown up in Eastern Pennsylvania, I was knocked out by how nostalgic the menu made me. Some of the flavors and smells I haven't enjoyed since I was a boy back in Lancaster. Absolutely authentic in every way. The German beer selection is awesome and it's great being served proper liters. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable about the menu. We had the wurst sampler and absolutely loved it. No question this place is a 10/10 in every way.

This spot is an amazing German style speak easy! Great selection of German beers with genius pour options. The food is also delicious! Definitely try the schnitzel.

An amazing hidden gem. The front of the bar looks like a small, unassuming shop, but once inside, it has a true speakeasy vibe. The ambiance is fantastic--ornate and atmospheric by the bar, with an open, airy space in the back. There's also a private party area you can book. If you smoke, the back area is smoke-friendly, but if not, staying inside is the better option. The beer selection is excellent, with a great variety, and they also have ciders. However, if you're looking for non-alcoholic drinks, the options are pretty limited. The waitstaff was a highlight--friendly, engaging, and really made the night fun. We had a private event with karaoke, and they even joined in on the singing, which added to the experience. We didn't order much food, but a friend did, and I got a taste--it was solid. Overall, it's a fantastic place for drinks, vibes, and a good time.

Date night with the Hubs, we heard about a German bar through a smoke shop in Murray Hill. Neat concept, and the vibe was kinda cool. It took awhile for us to be greeted even though we sat ourselves at the bar, and it wasn't busy. Giant pretzel was a plus! And loved the different choices of German brew.

What a fun evening at this German restaurant. The food was great as well as the service. I started with a bratwurst as I wasn't sure of what to pick . A friend had the Currywurst and it was delicious. I enjoyed their bier and the Glühwein was perfect on a cool evening in the garden area. The atmosphere was fun with Krampus walking around. The market was disappointing only because I was expecting some German gift options. I will definitely go back for the food.

Came here with a group of friends during the evening and had a great time. Sat outside in the Biergarten as the weather was warm and breezy. Their kitchen was backed up so initially we weren't able to order any food for about 30 mins but we weren't in any rush. They took our drink orders and they came out fairly quickly. We shared the pretzel with cheese sauce and mustard and the two flatbread: mushroom and bacon. I really enjoyed the pretzel. It was warm and soft and paired really well with both dips. For the entree, I ordered the currywurst. It was fine but I actually preferred my friend's dish: the bratwurst. Oh and their non-alcoholic "beer" called Christmas was very good. It really was Christmas in a cup! We also shared the Black Forest cake, which was moist and not too sweet. It was fairly large so we all at least got a bite! Great place for gatherings. Would want to also check out during their Christmas market during Dec.

If you're looking for the perfect mix of charm, character, and community--look no further than Buchner's Bierhalle! From the moment you walk in, the vibe is effortlessly cool yet welcoming, with a cozy, old-world feel that makes you want to stay a while (and then some)! The drink selection is top-tier--whether you're a beer enthusiast or just exploring, there's something for everyone. It's the kind of place where conversations flow as easily as the beer, and every little detail--from the ambiance to the curated events--shows how much heart and thought goes into it. Highly recommend for date nights, group hangs, or hosting an unforgettable event!!!! Buchner's isn't just a bar--it's an experience!

Decided to spend the day in Murray Hill which means we had to spot in at Buchner's Bierhalle. We came in a little past open and were able to get a table inside. I will say they had most of the tables inside full or at least with reservation signs on them so make sure you plan ahead. Once seated it's time for beer. I love that they had so many German Beers both on taps and bottled since they are some of my favorite. I of course had to get 32oz stein since, 1: were at a German bar/restaurant and 2: you can't get them at most places when when the option is there you take it. We of course had to order food too and got plenty to share. We went with the Wiesn Vesperplatte (charcuterie board), The Pretzel, and a large Jägerschnitzel. The Wiesn Vesperplatte was great filled with some of my favorite meats and cheeses: Ziegenkase Herbed Goat, Genoa Salami, Smoked Gouda, Emmentaler, Mortadella, Prosciutto. You can't go wrong with it when going with a group. The Pretzel is a must of course. Perfectly cooked and fluffy. The Brown Mustard it comes with is very good but when you are getting a pretzel you have to get the Bier Cheese. Yes, it is extra but it was worth it. The 10oz Jägerschnitzel is my favorite when it comes to Schnitzel. The Mushroom Gravy is creamy and just takes it to the next level. We did get the gravy on the side because some of the friends we were with had never had it but they gave us plenty for dipping and they loved it. I will say it is pricey at $37 but with a group it's great to share. We of course will be back since we are huge fans of German food and beer and unfortunately there just aren't many options for that in Jacksonville. We of course will be back and once it cools down will be ready to spend sometime in the Biergarten.

I ordered the Short Rib Hash Bowl without tomatoes. My only critique was that I could've used a little more short rib and a little less potatoes but I liked everything else about it. The onions brought a sweetness to it that was really unique and I REALLY liked the seasoning that was on the huge pieces of toast with it. My wife had the Breakfast Burrito, which I could've called from before we even walked in. If a place had a breakfast burrito, she's gonna order it. This one was great. There was a lot of good flavor packed into that tortilla. She especially liked the chili sauce on top. It had a little kick that elevated the whole thing. We both liked the environment and our server was very nice. We would come back for sure to try other things or just to hang out at the big outdoor bar at the front.

We went this past Friday and while they had the same great food (with one exception), same decor and vibe, it seemed as if the typically impeccable service was staring to slip. The staff was in a great mood, seemed to be having a party and maybe that was some of the issue. Drinks not filled, food brought out a different points when we asked for it to be brought together etc. One of the guests requested their sauce on the side and it came right on top of her cold steak. We had to constantly grab anyone who worked there to get help and get served or drink refills. Very atypical of Prospect. I'm reviewing again to be constructive. I still love Prospect and I need them to be the excellent experience they have always been. I'm truly hoping this was a one off afternoon.

However, after multiple visits, the overall experience has not matched the level of hype surrounding the restaurant. Portion sizes relative to pricing remain the primary concern, making the value feel uneven despite the appealing setting. I work in the area and have gone with several office mates. We've tried several dishes and sandwiches but still can't understand the extreme hype. I was told the Chorizo was spicy and it was so bland I felt like I was eating Hilshire Farms kielbasa. Pros: * Outdoor Dining - Pleasant outdoor dining area that provides a comfortable place to relax * Service - Consistently friendly service and a casual neighborhood feel * Variety - Menu crafted by highly regarded chef‑owners with strong culinary credentials * Location - Murray Hill location for a laid‑back meal or meet‑up * The best dish on the menu has been the pork sandwich - which is half a sub roll and plantain chips Cons: * Pricing - Pricing feels high for the portion sizes (e.g., three chicken legs at $23) * Expectations - Overall experience does not fully align with the restaurant's reputation * Some dishes feel more modest than expected given the cost Chancho King is a great place to unwind in the neighborhood, but the pricing-to-portion balance left me wanting more.

She made sure to check up on us, answered all of our questions, and refilled our drinks often. It was super clean there too! We were started off with some fresh, warm bread and a balsamic/olive oil dipping sauce. The bread was perfectly crispy and went so well with the dipping sauce. We were served cold bread before at restaurant so I'm glad we had warm bread! We decided on the following appetizer and entrees: Fried meat ravioli - 8/10: it came out piping hot and it was so delicious! Fried to a nice, golden brown and covered in panko crumbs, it didn't feel heavy at all. It came with a fresh marinara sauce and had parmesan cheese sprinkled on top of the fried ravioli. Each bite was cheesy, crispy, tasty, meaty, and we devoured it quickly! Carbonara Alla Roma - 8.5/10: I thought the portion would be small since I seen photos online but it was actually a great portion. I had enough to take home and eat as leftovers! The pasta was cooked perfectly and the alfredo sauce was balanced and decadent. I could taste the pecorino romano, and cracked black pepper. The pancetta was smoky and added a nice umami flavor to the pasta. I didn't rate it higher because it was slightly missing a little bit of of that BAM factor! but it was pretty delicious! The Sofi - chicken - 9/10: Oh my gosh! My best friend got this and I wished I would have too! It was sooooooooooooooooooo good! It had prosciutto di parma, mushrooms, asparagus, shallots, cooked in wine and tossed in a rose cream sauce. The pasta was also cooked perfectly and that sauce was to die for! Each bite was like tasting the finest flavors and spices of Italy. I could not believe how tasty this was! If you come here, you HAVE to try this dish! Tiramisu - 9.5/10: One of the best tiramisus we've had in Jacksonville. It was the perfect amount of espresso and cream. They had dollops of chocolate sauce on the side and helped elevated the flavor of the tiramisu. It also wasn't super sweet which we appreciate. We don't really like overly sweet desserts and this one hits the mark on everything. Overall, service, food, and atmosphere was great! We would definitely come back to try other menu items!
