I'm **shocked** by the five-star reviews of this place. The food is absolutely and completely devoid of flavor. I had the chicken lime soup and it tasted like lukewarm salt broth. The greens in my salad looked nice, and were undeniably fresh, but the overly oily, dark sesame dressing was not remotely Latin or Caribbean. Popular with local students and probably staffed by the same the vibe is generally lively, the attentive staff are friendly (other than the dour owner) and the clientele young and happy. The music is predictably Mexican. For around ten dollars the authentic, tasty and well made burrito is a bargain. The tacos and quesadilla are equally good. In fact... I've never had a dud meal. My huge beef with this place is the lighting. It's terrible. Terrible. Burn the retina terrible. This one detail ruins what could be a fantastic experience. This place is awesome. Great food, big servings (you get a whole lotta food for $10), very nice staff, cute theme on the décor (Mexican fortune-telling kind of card game). This is basically the go-to taco spot for Red Hook, Annandale-on-Hudson and small surrounding communities. They have a quaint, obscure selection of nice teas (mmmm.... coconut green tea!), or you can get a whole coconut cracked open with a straw. There are a bunch of taco choices, including vegetarian: pulled pork, chicken that's pulled like pulled pork, beef, etc. The beans that come with the taco plate are black beans, not refried beans, and you get a healthy dose of the all the desired fats (sour cream, guacamole), plus some chipotle sauce and a salsa, along with FIVE tortillas. The taco plate option says pulled pork, but you can swap out for chicken (like I did). The chicken is dreamy - moist, cooked to perfection. I really wish we had a taco place this good in Montreal. I like this place a lot! A common lunch spot for me. My only suggestion would be to improve on flavors a lot. Many times when I order a burrito or anything with chicken it tastes a bit underwhelming. This doesn't happen all the time so I feel inconsistency is a weakness here. A lot of times it's a hit sometimes it's a miss. Always fresh though and counter staff is very nice! read more

Excellent Mexican food worth the occasional wait on ingredients or cook time. As a smaller place you occasionally roll the dice on overall quality during the lunch or dinner rush, but the end product is always good. Staff is consistently friendly. Super casual place in Red Hook - you'll see many students, Bard staff, and locals there. I am a huge fan of the tacos - they have chicken, pork, chorizo and sometimes brisket - and they are super tasty. I also like the cheese quesadillas and the salads. Everything tastes fresh, I add a Ginger Beer soda to mine and I'm good to go. Nothing is salty or over spicy - they have plenty of fresh made hot salsas available if you want to go there and I surely do! This place is a regular go-to since Rusty's burned down. I just wish they had more seating - it can get crowded when college students are back. read more

I love the food here and I go very often. The tacos and the burritos are amazing, so is the chai tea, coconut water, and quesadillas. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes Mexican food. Great place, great food! I got the taco plate while there and was pleasantly surprised by the portion and the ability to make my own taco creation with it. However, I would say the food could use a bit more salt/seasoning. The lime soda was delicious though! The menu has been greatly expanded since the first time I visited which was also a nice surprise. The one thing I would say about service is the girl at the counter was a little distant and not as helpful at answering questions as I would have wished. Been in twice now. Food is good. Hopefully, they'll expand the menu or switch it up and add in specials every now and then. I agree with the previous comment about earth-friendly materials. My tacos-to-go came in about 50 separate containers. It came with a wooden spoon, though. Then I ordered soup to stay and it came in a disposable to-go cup. Get some bowls! read more

Well, I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong. The management at Bubby's has done an excellent job responding to customer feedback. The restaurant now offers three different kinds of cheap and delicious tacos prepared for you in the back. Cheese is now plentiful -- although it only comes on one taco, you can request it added to the other two. Sour cream and guacamole are available as add-ons. The quesadillas are on fire. The recipe for the rice and beans seems to have been slightly tinkered with, giving each dish more flavor. Bubby's Take Away Kitchen has to be the best value in town for a satisfying meal (at least until the burrito stand opens). read more

We're big fans of Bubby's Burrito Stand and happy we finally got to try the restaurant! Love the colorful, relaxed vibe and the food was awesome! I had the Mexican Chicken Soup which had plenty of white meat chicken, carrots, potatoes with cilantro, jalapenos, lime and onions on the side - awesome with great flavor! I also had the taco with pork pineapple and spices that was also great and a great price! My husband had a quesadilla and green salad which was great. He even had plenty to take home. The salad dressing is unbelievable and the guac burrito tastes like it's made of pure Jesus. They do this smokey kind of sauce too.
