Bubblefish is my go to when getting sushi delivered. Never had a bad roll from them! They are extremely consistent and I think my favorite is the specialty out of control roll. It's so crispy with the fried jalapeno outer layer, but so fresh on the inside. I also love the kani salad.

Food was good, the service was not. After we were seated they gave us waters but did not come back to get our orders, drinks or otherwise, for almost 30 minutes. The wait for the food was not bad at all, it was just the wait to have an order taken. The food was really good, and reasonably priced. I would order takeout, but I would not sit down to eat here again. The service is what spoiled the experience.

While on vacation in Philly we had a hankering for sushi and found ourselves at Bubblefish! To start off, the staff were very friendly and the inside of the restaurant is adorable! They were playing studio ghibli films which really tugged in my heart and gave me a big dose of nostalgia. The food was hit or miss. The sushi was very fresh - with one exception. I'm usually a big fan of uni but really did not like Bubblefish's offering. I'm not sure if it was past fresh or just not sourced well, but I can't recommend it. The rest of the sushi was delicious! The shrimp and veggie tempura was especially crisp and delicious. Pro tip: they have Shirley temples!

The ambiance of Bubblefish was nice large open window, music playing, dim lighting, they also had a projector with the movie Spirited Away playing. The happy hour they had was alright the prices were cheap but you got what you payed very small portions. I ordered some rolls they tasted very good and I enjoyed them. I ordered a roll with calamari and one with soft shell crab. Though one of my rolls randomly had an awful fishy taste which was honestly concerning. Our waiter was very nice and consistently checking on us. I am not %100 on recommending Bubblefish I would definitely go again and give it a second chance though.

GREAT dining experience. We came here for Christmas dinner and I could consider coming again next year. The sushi was sooo fresh and flavorful, the service was friendly but not overbearing. We never felt rushed, and the portions were large.

My friend and I went to Bubblefish for Christmas dinner and it was the right choice! We walked in without a reservation and got seated immediately. The menu was extensive - we both got an onigiri (which were huge) and we split a bunch of items - seaweed salad, shrimp tempura, 4 sushi rolls, and the shrimp udon. Ok we might have overdone it because we were soooo full and couldn't finish our sushi which was sad, but everything was sooo good. I definitely want to go back! Oh and we split 2 bottles of soju - white grape and peach which were delicioussssss

First time dining in, menu looked like it had the typical staple dishes in Asian/ sushi restaurants. The fried rice was done well with just the right amount of seasoning. We enjoyed the sushi rolls- we ordered the spider roll and bubblefish roll from the signature menu. They were both delicious. I would say only comment was that I wish they were cut slightly smaller, as each piece was quite huge and when tried to bite in half, it would fall apart. But loved how tasty they were.

4.5 stars We got tuna princess roll, crabmeat salad onigiri, and Taiwanese salt baked chicken. They were great, but also hard to mess up. Liked the sauce on the onigiri. Portion size for salt baked chicken could've been better. Looked like they upgraded their seating/interior so it looks very modern. Also included photo of chirashi bowl that a friend got. Waiter was attentive. Food was fresh. Overall would go again.

Value wise, one of the best to do it! Ambiance and vibes are decent but food and value wise this is top notch. The salmon bowl comes with so much salmon though they could add more ikura as it was a ikura and salmon bowl but the amount they gave felt like the ikura was just a garnish. Overall quality was good especially for the price so would definitely come again and be a local spot

I wish I could give more stars since we loved the food, but my most recent experience was not great. My partner took me out for a date night and they kept apologizing throughout the meal due to the service. Our server was really nice! But, we were constantly forgotten. Our drinks took a long time to come out, it took a long time for us to order, and they brought out my partners food 15 minutes before they brought out my sushi. They tried to wait for my food to eat, but I didn't want their ramen to go cold so we sadly ate at separate times. All the food was yummy tho! But the insanely slow service and having to flag our server down multiple times was upsetting. the food did not make up for it. It's not often my partner and I can fully treat each other to nice dates, so I feel terrible that they spent so much money on this subpar experience. Maybe I'll get takeout from them, but it was definitely my last time dining in.

I've been going to this place for almost six years and it never seems to fail me. From the sushi, sewers, and chicken wings - it's all so good. There's a lot of sushi variety but food options for non sushi lovers such as ramen also! I cracked the code on when to go to this place and it'll be 2:50 pm. Lunch time ends at 3 and happy hour starts at 3 pm. Order lunch menu when you sit down and then order from the happy hour menu after you get your lunch dishes! Both menu hehehe.

Ordered on DoorDash. Food well packaged. Fresh and also keeps well if you have leftovers. Would love to try more things!

I loved the starter and mid course palate "resets" (included in overall 18 course count). The inclusion of two final desserts was also appreciated as other omakase experiences in Philly are sushi only. The tamagoyaki is amazing so hopefully it'll be on the menu when you dine! The atmosphere was quiet, only two others dining at omakase with our party of five. The drink server was dressed in traditional Japanese clothing and was mostly invisible, yet present. It felt too intimate to be snapping away so pictured is the menu as of Jan 15 and the final bite - the persimmon cheese cake. The available à la carte add ons at conclusion are nice but our group of hungry guys didn't need to order anything additional. Overall a great spot for omakase!

We sat in a cozy corner booth and could easily hear each other although we could not read the menu or clearly see what we were eating the lighting is so dim (and consistent with the gothic theme). Now onto the food. We ordered 9 dishes (waiter suggested 8) and it was way too much for us and I'm a big eater! Edamame dumplings - 4/5, may be just me, but I don't really enjoy mushy fillings to my dumplings. The broth they came in was amazing though Tuna rice cracker - 4/5, not really a cracker, more like a crunchy mini loaf of rice topped with tuna and a slice of jalapeno - delicious and much more filling than what I was expecting. I only gave a 4 instead of 5/5 for taste because of the unexpected presentation of the "cracker" Shishito pepper small plate - 5*/5 outstanding! I could eat these all day they were so delicious. I'm not sure how they flavor these or what light crunchy sprinkles were on top of this very generous portion of peppers (I would estimate maybe 30 peppers?) I'd go back just for this dish Black cod fried rice - 3/5, I should know better that a miso black cod will be somewhat fishy, and with it spread in chunks throughout the fried rice I'd say this was my least favorite dish. Crispy brussels sprouts - 4/5, a solid offering, not much to write home about Crispy tofu - 3/5, not particularly unique although it sounded amazing when described - cubes of deep fried tofu drizzled with peanut sauce on a bed of cilantro pesto. But not that tasty and not that interesting Scallop robo - 5/5, excellent with a kick from the spicy powder on these, note these are very small portions, three slices of scallop (not even a full scallop or if these were full scallops they were very thin) on a stick Ribeye scallion robo - 5/5, also excellent, with three chunks of tender grilled beef Mochi ice cream: passion fruit, matcha - 4/5, but mostly because I'm not a huge fan of mochi ice cream, I'd rather just have the ice cream or have it with a brownie or between two cookies So overall, service was great, not overly attentive. And the food was very solid with an outstanding exception with the shishito peppers. I'm not sure I'd go back as it is very dark in there and if I was seated on the first floor I'd not be able to have conversation with my dinner mates.

CON: I could not find an updated menu online - I'm one of those people who like to peruse a menu in advance. I started with a vegetable tempura appetizer ($10) - excellent, light, airy, tasty. My main was the dragon roll - very tasty. Service was quite nice. Appetizers came out almost immediately, the rolls took a lot longer to get to our table. Royal's announcement on they starting to take reservations, a few months ago, immediately had me in stalker mode. I set a calendar reminder, waited for the day, hopped on & bang- success!! Another Philly weekend awaited, Yea! We arrived at Royal (apologies on review delay, circa April 11), for our 8:30pm high top table reservation. We were greeted and seated immediately- right side corner table ready. It's very dim in Royal, small but mobile and a bit noisy. Nothing unexpected. Skating over service, but they are so noteworthy. Our server was attentive, kind and helpful. They HUSSLE here to bus and clear tables. Timing for patrons arriving and being sat was like it was scripted, it was so flawless. No one waiting at the entrance corridor on arrival. Machine precision. Now, our meal- I'm drooling in my daydreams over it. We tried many plates & loved the portion size to be able to do so. The chicken wings- crisp, thick golden fried and tender. The toro with caviar- silk. A touch of brine, a melt in your mouth pleasure. The grilled octopus had an unassuming spice, mellow char and just the right consistency of chew. My husband ordered a surprise- I was scared. Fish heads. WTF, ok here we go. The plate came- heads on heads, quite the portion. This fish- first bite down, intimidation gone. This is one of the best things we've ever eaten. Succulent, moist fall apart whitefish. Didn't even taste like it was battered, no thickness to the breading. It tasted fried but so clean it didn't make sense how good it was. I don't have words. And now we get to the sushi- and I go completely mute.... There is no description worthy here. We had the Dragon Roll and the Spicy Crab Tempura roll. One thing though, the restaurant was surprisingly hard to find because there really isn't much signage on the entrance/door. But there's a paper lantern outside, so if you see that, you're in the right place. I had really high expectations coming here and thankfully I wasn't disappointed, although nothing completely blew me away except for the Aka Taka roll. The chirashi bowl was solid overall and had good quality cuts of fish for $52. Everything tasted fresh and balanced, but next time I think I'd personally just order the sakedon instead. The chasu bao also wasn't really worth the $14 in my opinion. It was still good, just not something memorable or mind blowing. Same with the wagyu steak, for $38, it honestly just tasted like a really good steak, and the portion was a little smaller than I expected. My favorite appetizer was definitely the miso eggplant. Such a unique combination of flavors and the eggplant was cooked incredibly soft and well. It almost tasted like a sweet potato with the miso on top, and I would absolutely order it again. But the standout of the night was easily the Aka Taka roll. For a $27 roll, I had very high expectations and somehow they were all met. The roll was stuffed with different cuts of tuna that were unbelievably soft and buttery, and there was this crunch in the middle, maybe daikon? Whatever it was, it added the perfect texture. Honestly, it's something I'd go back just for.
