I checked out Ginza in South Philly, and overall it was a really good experience. Parking: mostly residential, but there's at Riverview plaza parking lot at 48 Reed St. I found street parking pretty quickly, which was a plus. The restaurant itself is super cute small, cozy, and BYOB (definitely bringing a bottle next time). It was pretty empty when we went, which we didn't mind at all. It gave a relaxed vibe, though the service was a little slow. That said, it worked out since we ordered a variety of dishes and weren't in a rush. Linda was our server--very nice and attentive. What we ordered: Spicy edamame: really good, great flavor to start Miso black cod two pieces, but thick, flaky, and buttery with a slightly sweet sauce and shredded carrots. Taste a piece of the fish with the carrots. Yummmm Oyster uni spoon: a standout. The roe bursts in your mouth and the flavor melted together! Made my taste buds happy! sooooo good!!! Fried oysters: nice and crunchy, really good. The sauce drizzled over the cabbage pulled it all together Tuna Tango roll - looked nice, but just okay. Didn't do much for my taste buds Sushi burger - delicious!!! Everything worked together and it looked really cool too! Drinks: Yuzu citrus sparkling drink - refreshing but just okay Green tea - very light, not bold at all, more like lightly flavored water We really enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back. Next time I'll try a different specialty roll since the Tuna Tango didn't hit for me. I'm also curious how it is on a busy weekend we actually loved how quiet it was, but I imagine it gets more lively. Final thought: Great food overall, cozy vibe, and a perfect BYOB spot to try a variety of dishes. read more

My fiancé and I love sushi and, while I have ordered from here in the past, she had never been. She has a gluten allergy (not celiac) but I can attest that she didn't have a reaction. The food here isn't competing for a top sushi spot in the city but it's priced accordingly and I have always been happy with my food. Fish is good quality and the waitstaff is knowledgeable on allergies. Cute window seating makes for a good place to have dinner or lunch. read more

Fu enjoyed the miso black cod $14. Comes with two small pieces. Maybe I would like it more with rice. He seemed to enjoy the Delux Chirashi Don $33 as well. It comes with 15 pieces. We also got two rolls: Dynamite $15 and Okinawa Sunset $18. For the Dynamite, the pepper taste stood out the most. I liked the wasabi spicy mayo sauce that came with the sunset roll. For both, you didn't taste much fish. read more

Ordered spicy tuna, shrimp tempura and the spring rolls for takeout through door dash, the quality of the sushi was horrible. Tasted like cafeteria low quality sushi and for the spring rolls had one bite and threw the rest out was extra fried and barely any vegetable in it. Very disappointed with my order read more

Took my sisters and they tried bits and pieces off of the menu. They mostly enjoyed everything we ordered - only downside was a stray hair in one of our water cups. Service was friendly and attentive so that's always a plus. read more

Went there for lunch and had a nice fresh lunch by the windows. Very cute neighborhood spot with good sushi rolls! The twin salmon roll and white tuna rolls literally melted in my mouth. The saba (makerel) sashimi was okay but the oyster uni spoon was perfectly creamy and delicious! The hostess and server was super sweet and knew the menu. Polite and courteous. Also adored the kitchy Japanese anime soundtracks playing lightly in the background. read more

Ginza is a cozy restaurant with friendly staff. I came with a bit party, and they were very accommodating. I ordered the black garlic tonkatsu ramen. The portion size was good. The ramen came with a lot of toppings. The tonkatsu was tender. The overall dish was extremely salty, which was my only gripe with the meal. read more

Ginza is a little hole in the wall sushi restaurant located right along the cobble stone streets between Old City and South Philly. I'm so glad I tried this joint out! The sushi was delicious and fresh. Oyster Uni Spoon was so good and so delicious. The presentation of the dish was exquisite. A little expensive, but well worth it. Price is listed per spoon FYI. MINI UNI IKURA DON was honestly too pretty to eat! This was a miniature (yet completely satisfying) chirashi bowl but with uni and salmon roe. So fresh and just phenomenal in terms of flavor. You can also add a little bit of soy sauce if you want a little bit more of a salty/savory. I mixed mine with wasabi and mixed the entire dish together. A wonder blend with a little bit of kick! Toro Sashimi was fresh and nicely drizzled with some sesame oil. The sashimi was displayed like a flower - just beautiful! Spider Roll was perfect and very flavorful and fresh. Highly recommend!! read more

I was surprised to see this place had 4 stars on Yelp. As soon as we get walked in, we noticed the restaurant had an unpleasant smell. I can't pinpoint the smell, but moldy, old, etc. No one was at the front so we waited a bit to get seated. we were eventually seated at a table next to the window which we thought was nice at first, but soon realized there were gnats everywhere so we had to constantly keep them away from our food. We ordered the Uni spoon, soft shell crab and sashimi for 2. The uni spoon was not good, I do not know why that item is featured as a special. I almost lost my appetite after eating it. The soft crab was okay, just very oily and that's mainly what I tasted. The presentation was the ugliest I've seen at a restaurant. Looks like it was mixed in a bowl and thrown on a plate lol. Finally the sashimi wasn't bad, but didn't taste as fresh as other places I've been. Also the server took down my order wrong and messed up quantities and gave me the wrong sashimi tray. I asked for sashimi tray for two and she gave me the sushi and sashimi for two.... I didn't even say anything because I did not want to be there another minute. Still tipped her even though I really did not want to based on the lack of service and overall disappointment from this place. Won't be back and wouldn't ever recommend it. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch. For an appetizer we got the short ribs which was omg so good. Whatever the marinade is it's simply fantastic! I couldn't decide between ramen or sushi so I had to get both! I decided to get the black pearl sushi roll which was absolutely delicious with eel + eel sauce. I also got the black garlic ramen which needed a bit more seasoning but tasted great for leftovers. My husband got a roll and one of the sushi combos to try. The fish overall tasted fresh :) service was also great. I would love to come back and try the specials next time I'm in the area. read more

We ate at Ginza on a weekday at lunch time- they weren't busy at this time - service was great and food came quickly. I absolutely loved the angry dragon roll - perfect amount of crunch with the tempura shrimp. The rainbow roll was also delicious, as was the more basic California roll. The miso ramen was tasty and filling. Overall, a great lunch experience and I'm sure would be great for dinner. read more

Hamachi Kama: 5/5 - can't go wrong with a well cooked Hamachi Kama! Uni Ikura Oyster Spoon - 0/5 this is a popular item on the menu and yet, nothing seem fresh what so ever. It was like eating a spoonful of ocean sand. Uni Salmon Ikura Don - 2/5 again, the ocean smell is something I am not a fan of, maybe it's made for some people. (I've had all the items from the tital all the time at different sushi places) Sushi Burger - 5/5 my niece had this dish and she highly recommended it ! While service was excellent, food was unfortunately bland. The rolls we had were also not memorable.

This is our go to spot when we're craving sushi. They have this Ginza sashimi for 2 platter that included premium cuts of sushi such as uni and sweet shrimp. They also deep fry the head of the shrimp for those who enjoy that! We also always get the oyster ikura uni spoons when we go. Definitely check it out if you're a fan of sushi! read more

Just okay. The ramen was a bit on the salty side. The chicken kara age has a weird taste/after taste - maybe the oil has something to do with it, and the takoyaki was pretty good. Didn't really blow my breath away, but the server was very nice. read more

The sushi was fresh and I'm happy that they were open for business during covid-19 but people with food allergens should be careful. We ordered the trio salmon roll and twin salmon roll along with beef angus don and avocado unagi roll. I had no problems with the food- none of the ingredients had shrimp. I made sure of that. I've been to plenty of sushi places and never had a allergic reaction because I'm always be careful with ingredients because I'm allergic to shrimp. I have a feeling that there was probably cross contamination either with the sushi or tempera flakes because within 15 minutes of consumption I broke out into hives. The usual symptoms of hard to breathe, itchy eyes, running nose, sneezing- my eyes swell up so bad that I had to take children Benadryl and a highly dose dr rx antihistamine which took half a day to go down. Just beware when ordering because you never know where your food has been. read more

Great restaurant in this Philadelphia neighborhood. Once you pop open the door you are immediately welcome into a modern cozy dinning experience. Sushi was delicious perfect portion if dinning alone. Second was a seafood udon, noodle were perfect and the broth let me simply say it was tasty - la combinación perfecta de sabores. Excited to add Ginza to my list for my future trips to Philadelphia. This is a BYOB " bring your own booze" establishment. Just a shame I am unable to load the video of the udon guys you could see the steam, the delicious volume as my photo does no justice ( I had already dug in when I remembered oh photo ) sign it was too delicious to wait. read more

This is my 3rd time here for takeout. First visit was for Ramen, which was very good. Flavorful broth. Nice texture on the noodles, full of vibrant and delicious ingredients. The second 2 trips were at lunch for the salmon bento box, which is amazing! Fresh, perfectly cooked salmon filet with crispy skin over a bed of seasonal veggies. Complimented by Gyoza, rice, California roll, side salad & fresh fruit. Amazing lunch, quick friendly service. I may be back tomorrow! read more

My husband got the spicy miso ramen and I got the chicken teriyaki platter. Both were lackluster, particularly the chicken which had very little flavor. The portion sizes were generous and they were quick to fill our order (25 mins?) We plan to get takeout again, but get sushi instead. We should have started with the core of the menu - I'll review again when we try. read more

Would argue it's the worst sushi in the city. We got the King Spider Roll and it comes with a thick layer of mayo. We were wiping some of it off to make it more palatable. Nothing felt like it was made from quality products. The spicy scallop roll was all filler, I was hoping they'd just put the wrong order in but that was really it. Expensive way to be dissatisfied. Server was lovely and it's nice inside. read more

This is an amazing place! I would totally recommend it to my friends. They got a big menu for different varieties of Japanese food! The service was phenomenal! The fish tasted extremely fresh! I am a salmon person so usually I save the salmon for last, but in here I did it with the red clam! It's the best red clam I had since my trip to Japan! The Raman with the milky broth and king crab legs was good as well. The broth was a little sweeter than my expectation, but the crab legs were well seasoned and meaty, so it kind of made an even call. I was disappointed that they didn't have the lobster sashimi at that night. Therefore I will probably come back to try that and also the uni( which my friend highly recommended)! My conclusion: clean and neat restaurant, great service, fresh food, great value and I didn't like the music. read more

I believe I've already done a review on this restaurant but only on google reviews. I forget who was assisting me and my family yesterday on Mother's Day, however I adore her a lot as I literally gave her a hard time at first and we ran into an issue. All and all the service was great and she did a great job. I will literally go back for food AND for her to attend my table. She was honestly one of the very few people that actually put a smile on my face yesterday due to the fact I lost my mother the end of March. She really did go out of her way to make sure my families experience was good at Ginza. read more

Brand new sushi/ramen restaurant in South Philly, right off of Washington Ave. Street parking was pretty easy. The staff was friendly and the interior is nice. From photos and reviews, my expectations were high.. The food and quality was mediocre. Prices were a bit expensive for the portion. The beef ribs were good, very flavorful. I would go for more of the uni scallop dish! The uni sushi was okay, could've been better and it was weird that it came with avocado. The otoro sushi was not good, it did not taste like what it's suppose to be. The fried oyster roll was good and interesting. Our sushi bowl (Big bang,$29?) was okay. The fish was good but the rice was too sticky and packed that it was hard to eat. We also ordered the King crab milky ramen ($18). The ramen itself was good but broth was bland.. 3.5 stars ~ read more

Came here with some local Philadelphian foodies. Food here is really fresh and they pile on the fish in each bowl. You get some nice window seating on the side great for people watching! We ordered a dozen oysters and kalbi. The oysters were freshly shucked and the kalbi was so tender. We ate all the meat off the bone. We all decided to order the big bang sushi bowls. They give you plenty of salmon, salmon roe and uni. Fish was very fresh and the salmon size was large. Overall this is a great location with regards to service and food quality. Parking is easy to find on the main street. Its a great place to grab dinner and its BYOB. read more

Giving a star because the service was good Wasabi tastes like horseradish King spider roll - way too much mayo and there's was no shrimp under the tempura. Felt unhealthy to eat Spicy scallop - call it a spicy tempura roll. There's no scallop in there and it cost $11. Didn't bother finishing it. Other 2 rolls were lower quality for price as well Try Tomo Sushi if you think this place is good. So far I have eaten at this restaurant maybe two times? A friend of mine told me about this newly open restaurant when they just recently opened. It is consider a small Japanese restaurant compare to other ones I have been to. I would suggest calling ahead to reserve tables if you have a large party so they can make seating arrangements, because most of the tables there are tables for two or four. The restaurant is fairly clean and have a relaxing interior design. The food quality was not bad and taste fresh. Their price seem to be on the top average line. Side fact, the owner of this restaurant also owns Bubble Fish located on Arch St. in Chinatown. Food from Bubble Fish are not bad at all too. Based on my last two visits, one thing seems to be a negative for customer who's going to dine in with a baby stroller. Because the restaurant isn't that big, I was having some trouble parking my stroller by the side of my table. Just a side note for mommies who want to dine in here with their baby or little one. read more
