I checked out Ginza in South Philly, and overall it was a really good experience. Parking: mostly residential, but there's at Riverview plaza parking lot at 48 Reed St. I found street parking pretty quickly, which was a plus. The restaurant itself is super cute small, cozy, and BYOB (definitely bringing a bottle next time). It was pretty empty when we went, which we didn't mind at all. It gave a relaxed vibe, though the service was a little slow. That said, it worked out since we ordered a variety of dishes and weren't in a rush. Linda was our server--very nice and attentive. What we ordered: Spicy edamame: really good, great flavor to start Miso black cod two pieces, but thick, flaky, and buttery with a slightly sweet sauce and shredded carrots. Taste a piece of the fish with the carrots. Yummmm Oyster uni spoon: a standout. The roe bursts in your mouth and the flavor melted together! Made my taste buds happy! sooooo good!!! Fried oysters: nice and crunchy, really good. The sauce drizzled over the cabbage pulled it all together Tuna Tango roll - looked nice, but just okay. Didn't do much for my taste buds Sushi burger - delicious!!! Everything worked together and it looked really cool too! Drinks: Yuzu citrus sparkling drink - refreshing but just okay Green tea - very light, not bold at all, more like lightly flavored water We really enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back. Next time I'll try a different specialty roll since the Tuna Tango didn't hit for me. I'm also curious how it is on a busy weekend we actually loved how quiet it was, but I imagine it gets more lively. Ginza is a cozy restaurant with friendly staff. I came with a bit party, and they were very accommodating. I ordered the black garlic tonkatsu ramen. The portion size was good. I was surprised to see this place had 4 stars on Yelp. As soon as we get walked in, we noticed the restaurant had an unpleasant smell. I can't pinpoint the smell, but moldy, old, etc. No one was at the front so we waited a bit to get seated. we were eventually seated at a table next to the window which we thought was nice at first, but soon realized there were gnats everywhere so we had to constantly keep them away from our food. We ordered the Uni spoon, soft shell crab and sashimi for 2. The uni spoon was not good, I do not know why that item is featured as a special. I almost lost my appetite after eating it. The soft crab was okay, just very oily and that's mainly what I tasted. The presentation was the ugliest I've seen at a restaurant. Looks like it was mixed in a bowl and thrown on a plate lol. Finally the sashimi wasn't bad, but didn't taste as fresh as other places I've been. Also the server took down my order wrong and messed up quantities and gave me the wrong sashimi tray. I asked for sashimi tray for two and she gave me the sushi and sashimi for two.... I didn't even say anything because I did not want to be there another minute. Ginza is a little hole in the wall sushi restaurant located right along the cobble stone streets between Old City and South Philly. I'm so glad I tried this joint out! The sushi was delicious and fresh. Oyster Uni Spoon was so good and so delicious. The presentation of the dish was exquisite. A little expensive, but well worth it. Price is listed per spoon FYI. MINI UNI IKURA DON was honestly too pretty to eat! This was a miniature (yet completely satisfying) chirashi bowl but with uni and salmon roe. So fresh and just phenomenal in terms of flavor. You can also add a little bit of soy sauce if you want a little bit more of a salty/savory. I mixed mine with wasabi and mixed the entire dish together. A wonder blend with a little bit of kick! We ate at Ginza on a weekday at lunch time- they weren't busy at this time - service was great and food came quickly. I absolutely loved the angry dragon roll - perfect amount of crunch with the tempura shrimp. The rainbow roll was also delicious, as was the more basic California roll. This is our go to spot when we're craving sushi. They have this Ginza sashimi for 2 platter that included premium cuts of sushi such as uni and sweet shrimp. The sushi was fresh and I'm happy that they were open for business during covid-19 but people with food allergens should be careful. We ordered the trio salmon roll and twin salmon roll along with beef angus don and avocado unagi roll. I had no problems with the food- none of the ingredients had shrimp. I made sure of that. I've been to plenty of sushi places and never had a allergic reaction because I'm always be careful with ingredients because I'm allergic to shrimp. I have a feeling that there was probably cross contamination either with the sushi or tempera flakes because within 15 minutes of consumption I broke out into hives. The usual symptoms of hard to breathe, itchy eyes, running nose, sneezing- my eyes swell up so bad that I had to take children Benadryl and a highly dose dr rx antihistamine which took half a day to go down. Would argue it's the worst sushi in the city. We got the King Spider Roll and it comes with a thick layer of mayo. We were wiping some of it off to make it more palatable. This is an amazing place! I would totally recommend it to my friends.They got a big menu for different varieties of Japanese food! The service was phenomenal! The fish tasted extremely fresh! I am a salmon person so usually I save the salmon for last, but in here I did it with the red clam! It's the best red clam I had since my trip to Japan! The Raman with the milky broth and king crab legs was good as well. The broth was a little sweeter than my expectation, but the crab legs were well seasoned and meaty, so it kind of made an even call. I was disappointed that they didn't have the lobster sashimi at that night. Therefore I will probably come back to try that and also the uni( which my friend highly recommended)! Came here with some local Philadelphian foodies. Food here is really fresh and they pile on the fish in each bowl. You get some nice window seating on the side great for people watching! We ordered a dozen oysters and kalbi. The oysters were freshly shucked and the kalbi was so tender. We ate all the meat off the bone. We all decided to order the big bang sushi bowls. They give you plenty of salmon, salmon roe and uni. Fish was very fresh and the salmon size was large. Overall this is a great location with regards to service and food quality. My go-to dishes to order are the Angry Dragon Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Trio Sashimi Roll, Tonkatsu (bento box and dinner platter), and the Black Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen. So far I have eaten at this restaurant maybe two times? A friend of mine told me about this newly open restaurant when they just recently opened. It is consider a small Japanese restaurant compare to other ones I have been to. I would suggest calling ahead to reserve tables if you have a large party so they can make seating arrangements, because most of the tables there are tables for two or four. The restaurant is fairly clean and have a relaxing interior design. The food quality was not bad and taste fresh. Their price seem to be on the top average line. Side fact, the owner of this restaurant also owns Bubble Fish located on Arch St. in Chinatown. Food from Bubble Fish are not bad at all too. Based on my last two visits, one thing seems to be a negative for customer who's going to dine in with a baby stroller. Because the restaurant isn't that big, I was having some trouble parking my stroller by the side of my table.
