Grilled beef shish kebab
Tamar L.

There's a new Jewish deli in Menlo Park, so you knew I would be there! The style is cuteeee! Blue Mediterranean theme and bright colors, French-style cafe tables. Deli counter and prepared foods to go, cookbooks, baked goods, dry goods, arranged attractively on shelves. You order via iPad, convenient and streamlined. I tried a few things. Beef shish kabob was excellent -- juicy and well seasoned, grilled perfectly. This was a treat! I ordered the Hummus Bomba thinking it would have bamba in it, got confused lol. Bamba is peanut puffs, a popular Israeli snack. Bomba is a Calabrian chili garlic paste like you get at Trader Joe's. So Bomba Hummus bowl came with hummus, a scoop of Calabrian chili garlic paste, crisped chick peas, Persian cucumber and preserved lemon. It was ok but the crisped chickpeas were too hard and dry. As for chicken soup, this is a delicate topic, given the deep emotions that come with it, of memory, childhood, culture. I think I ordered the wrong soup -- I got the meaty matzo ball soup. It smelled like classic chicken soup but had a lemony taste I didn't care for. This soup was chunky with shredded chicken and veggies, but I prefer clear broth only. The matzo ball was good. It's possible the other soup choice was a clear broth. I will try it next time.

4.5 stars In the same family as Che Fico, Bubbelah is a new fast-casual, counter-service restaurant offering a menu of dishes from the Jewish diaspora. This included everything from Ashkenazi, Sephardic, and Middle Eastern influences. We started with the Mezze Plate, a collection of cold dishes and appetizers including baba ghanoush, muhammara, labneh, matbucha (cooked tomatoes and peppers), and shredded carrot salad. The combination of flavors and textures was delicious from the creamy dips to the crunchy carrot salad, and everything went nicely with the round of fluffy pita on the side. Another highlight dish was the Che Fico Bomba Crispy Hummus, a plate of light, airy hummus topped with crispy chickpeas and a mildly spicy bomba chili pepper paste. The hummus wasn't as flavorful or creamy as I liked, but the toppings made for a creative fusion dish! The Meaty Matzo Ball Soup was a hearty, savory chicken soup with a large matzo ball in the center. Finally, the Falafel plate came with three soft, crispy, herbaceous falafels served with yellow rice, hummus, and Middle Eastern chopped salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, bell pepper, radish, red onion). Overall, the food here was beautifully plated and decent flavorwise. The atmosphere of the restaurant was clean and modern, and the prices were fair for the quality of the dishes!

Based on taste, would have given 5 stars. We ordered the Beef kebab pita which was very nice. We also shared the mezzanine plate which was mostly good. What bothered me was that we had a coupon for a free side of Falafel following attending the owner's book signing, however even though the coupon had no expiration date and we met all the conditions, after 15 minutes of waiting for this to be clarified, the coupon was refused because the Chef was in a meeting and was unable to approve it. Gave me the feeling that I was trying to scam them or something, after driving there especially from San Jose.

Ok, Menlo Park....we see you! This sleepy town is becoming a hot spot for food enthusiasts with all the new restos opening in the area. Soft opening today is Chef Nayfeld's new fast casual resto at Springline (next to Robin): Bubbelah. We were having dinner nearby and saw they just opened today. Dinner #2, why not? They're currently open 11:30 am - 7 pm (last order is 6:40 pm) for takeout and delivery only. Dine-in is coming next week. For now, there's plenty of communal tables outside in the courtyard. M E N U "Inspired by Jewish Diaspora Eastern Europe to the Middle East": Mezze, Salads, Soups, Kebabs, and Sauces. More items to come. F O O D * Mezze Plate ($17) - Labneh: Best dip! The yogurt has a nice thick consistency with bursts of sweet tang from the pomegranate. - Baba Ganoush: The roasted eggplant dip was rich and creamy with a touch of smoky flavor (prefer it stronger). - Hummus: Smooth, but very bland. - Muhamarra: Roasted Red Pepper Dip - Missing - Matbucha: Stewed Tomatoes & Bell Peppers - Chunky marinara sauce vibes. - Spicy Carrot Salad: Crisp with almond slivers. Sweet, not spicy. - Olives: Missing - Pita: Bummed that it looked and tasted commercial (dry and dense), not housebaked like the menu pic. Good sampling of vegetarian dips but this is def shrinkflation prices and portions. It's hard to tell but this is more of a snack size serving for one person. * Schug ($2) The Yemeni hot sauce was spicy and very herbaceous. Quite tart in the end. Overall, it's day one with lots of potential. I can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients. Looking forward to returning for their harissa roasted chicken over housebaked lavash when it's rolled out!

Good Mediterranean food with a diner vibe. Service was good and efficient. Self ordering using a terminal like you see in some airports (or on-line). The Baba Ganoush and Muhammara were my favorites. Prices were reasonable, portion sizes were adequate

Parking: Underground garage, stairs or lift (elevator) up one floor to the Cafe Barrone and Keplers Book Store. We were lucky as I was able to find a table outside. Indoor seating is available and that is also where you place your order. When you pay, you are given a number to place on your table. Order regular coffee here and hot chocolate, or special coffees at another counter. They forgot to give the Duchess the regular coffee, but noticed the mistake at the special counter and brought the coffee to the Duchess while she was picking up her hot chocolate. Smoked Salmon Bagel Platter $22.00: Smoked Salmon, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Capers, Red Onion, & Whipped Cream Cheese with your choice of toasted bagel. My choice: Forever bagel. The dish was was plentiful, smelling and tasting deliciously fresh. Large dollop of cream cheese was much appreciated. Bagel was nicely toasted and there was no hole for ingredients to fall through. Loved that! ORGANIC BEET SALAD $15.00 Roasted organic beets, grapefruit, pickled fennel, avocado, goat cheese, & house balsamic vinaigrette. Title should have said ORGASMIC, because the Duchess proclaimed it to be the very best salad she has ever been served in her realm (wink!) CUSTARD sorry no price, my bad. Duchess says she could eat a 55 gallon drum of this creamy rich dessert. Covered with a dusting of fresh nutmeg making it downright addictive. Drinks: Regular Coffee Taylor Maid Farms Drip $4.75 was nothing to write home about. Would not order it again. It looked like coffee, but no taste on the tongue Hot Chocolate $5.00 Duchess made a rookie mistake and tried to sip it before sucking off some of the whip cream, the chocolate milk flowing lovingly down her white flowery dress. Being the "quite proper" Brit, there was no audible curse. Still, she found it very tasty, with a strong chocolate flavor, which left her wishing she had ordered the large cup. Trendy, bustling, loud crowd. Casual dress is the order. Noise level is not so much as to be painful. If your wearing hearing aids, you may enjoy removing one. Sadly, all the staff were walking around with seriously sullen faces. Our server delivered our order with word unspoken, expressionless. So we were pleasantly surprised with Miguel, who while bussing our table was smiling and downright charming. 5 stars to this young man. Yes, we were here to eat, but it is nice to not feel your attending a funeral, when your spending dollars. Tips start at 18% and up. For what? You basically wait on yourself. Will return, as there are many dishes and drinks to relish. Yeah . . . we did leave a tip. Oh!! And the Duchess paid the tab. Drinks all around.

We placed a group order, and everyone enjoyed their dishes. I ordered the avocado & quinoa superfood ensalada, and it was great. It looked exactly like the picture in the menu. I appreciate they served the dressing on the side so that I could put the exact amount I wanted to the salad. We ordered the Peruvian steak sandwich and the Seasonal GOAT with Sweet Citrus - the taste was lovely and well-balanced with some spicy taste. The goat cheese was light and airy, so definitely doable even if you're not a huge fan of goat cheese. The inside space was super spacious, and you can choose to sit both inside or out. We sat inside, and I was glad due to the hot hot weather, the AC inside was great. The lady at the register was also super nice, and gave my toddler a set of crayons and paper to draw on! I will be coming back again soon!

We went at the perfect time before the dinner rush and were greeted by our waiter Dylan. He was quick to answer our questions and offered great recommendations. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich with air fried fries and a pepperoni pizza. I also got a iced matcha horchata. Buffalo chicken sandwich tasted great with not an overpowering vinegar taste but also had that wonderful classic Buffalo wings flavor. The bread was very soft and the coleslaw was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the freshness of it. The fries were very dry and hard to be honest, I'll probably get a salad instead of those next time. The pepperoni pizza was a thin crust and not overly oily and cooked to perfection. No burnt crust or lava temperature cheese. Every bite was a joy. The iced matcha horchata was pretty much just a matcha latte lol. I did not taste any horchata flavoring at all. Not bad if it was just labeled a matcha latte but I probably won't get it again. Overall my visit was enjoyed and I look forward to exploring what the other items on the menu are like. Despite the shortcomings of the fries and the lack of horchata flavoring in my horchata drink I would still say my meal was rather enjoyable. On top of that our server Dylan was outstanding. Checked in at all the right times and was not overbearing but also not lacking in interaction. We did not have to ask for much as he was quick to provide everything we needed. The ambiance and the look of the restaurant was very nice and clean. Music wasn't too loud and the lights weren't too bright or too dim. I would highly recommend the hummus flight; you get to sample all four of their hummus types. To my understanding, these hummus types change from time to time. When we went, we had the classic, pesto hummus, chipotle hummus, and the dried olive & feta crumble. The chipotle had a stronger kick than I was expecting from hummus, the pesto was a little too oily for my taste, and I didn't see any dried olives in the last one. But overall, it was the most creative and creamy hummus I've ever had. The Manti and Baba Ghanoush were good too; the dumplings being perfectly cooked and the baba ghanoush (which I thought would be something else) turned out to be one of my favorites! For all these dipping sauces, we only got two slices of pita bread, which was not nearly enough. Make sure you take heavy dips or else you'll be eating straight sauce. I don't know, maybe that's your thing. Service was attentive, plating was suberb, and the decor was upscale. I'm just happy to report that the food quality is on par with the ambiance.

HEALTH CODE VIOLATIONS!!!…read more I am writing this review to both warn other customers and so that management sees this. I was at the MP location earlier this week and saw not one but TWO health code violations committed by employees. First, one of the ladies was drinking out of an open cup at the front where the food and beverages are prepared. This is against the health code! 113977. (a) Except as specified in subdivision (b), an employee shall eat or drink only in designated areas where contamination of nonprepackaged food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; unwrapped single-use articles; or other items needing protection cannot result. (b) A food employee may drink from a closed beverage container if the container is handled to prevent contamination of the employee's hands, the container, nonprepackaged food, and food-contact surfaces. The employee (brown hair in a ponytail, wearing grey Adidas) was frequently drinking a pink drink from a clear open cup behind the counter where the pastries are! Also, I saw the male employee behind the counter sneeze and use his bare hand to cover his sneeze. He rubbed his nose and sniffed. I was watching him from my table to make sure that he washed his hands. He went over to the sink behind the cash register and I kid you not, he turned on the water and for literally ONE SECOND put his hands under it. He then wiped his hands together to dry them. HE DID NOT USE SOAP TO WASH HIS HANDS AFTER SNEEZING INTO THEM!!!! Article 4. Handwashing 113953.3. (a) (2) After touching bare human body parts other than clean hands and clean, exposed portions of arms. (5) After coughing, sneezing, using a handkerchief or disposable tissue, using tobacco, eating, or drinking. He then went back to work grabbing customers' pastries. I'd really love for management to please have a word with staff/review training and protocols - please don't respond to this review with the canned "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have addressed this with our staff and we will take your comments into consideration." Please actually DO SOMETHING and ensure that all of your staff follow proper health code laws! Thank you!! :D
