The only thing that's consistent about bubbaques in Dunnellon is it inconsistency! I found this restaurant through Groupon. First time I ate there was superb second time was barely Fair. Decided to give it another shot excellent meal. Eating there a few more times, it was good. We went for breakfast there this morning. Like always the wait staff is great! It's the kooks in the back. There is nothing consistent from one cook to another. Today Jean was cooking. He/she was on their off day. They served the fattiest slices of brisket I've ever had there. The biscuit (for biscuits and gravy) wasn't even heated. My breakfast, bubba's brisket/cheddar omelette(the only breakfast I order now. When it's good, it's really good) was lacking. Last Saturday the omelette was the best I've ever had. Today's was less than half the brisket. A slice&a half of toast. The waitress apologized and said she would get another. I guess the cook was hungry. The bottom line is bubbaques could be a great restaurant if they would only be consistent. Went not long ago. Both my husband and I got very sick. The manager has been known to be unprofessional and rude. All the waitresses are young and some are rude. Food is mediocre on a good day, bbq is extremely poor and fatty. read more

I've read the other bad reviews and didn't experience any of the bad stuff. BBQ was good. Had a brisket sandwich with a onion rings in top and chedder cheese on Texas toast. They had 8 different BBQ sauces that were all unique and tasty. Staff was friendly, and my father tried out the 2 for 1 drink special. Got two beers for the price of one so it works as normal lol. They had live music that was a tad loud but we were sat a distance away from the speakers so it wasn't bad. Over all it's a good restaurant to eat at. read more

I just left your Dunnellon Florida location and doubt I will be back in the future, which is sad because I love the food and prior to tonight have never had a bad experience dining in or taking out there. I called in a pick up order around 7pm. I ordered a full order of your "Redneck Nachos" among a few other things. When I ordered I stated "I wanna get a full order of your Redneck Nachos" to which the young lady on the phone (Amya) asked me "do you want the half order or the full order?" To which I replied "A full order"... I thought to myself I said a full order when I ordered it, but I didn't really think much of it at the time and just continued with my order..... After completing my order Amya said "Okay, let me read that back to make sure I got it right." She read it back and said what I thought was "Okay I got the full order of nachos..... (Etc)" and I said "yep" and then I headed to the Restaurant to pick up my food, When I arrived Amya greeted me at the pick up counter and asked if I was Bill, I said yes and she told me a total much higher than I anticipated, so I gave her a puzzled look and said "That can't be right." So she started to go over my order and started by saying that I had 4 orders of nachos, at which point the light bulb went off in my head as to what happened..... I explained to her that I said "A full Order" not "4 Orders" which is why she asked me the size I wanted and when she repeated it back to me that she must have said "Okay, I got the four orders of nachos" instead of "Okay, I got the full order of nachos" like I thought she said. I apologized repeatedly to her and said that I should have caught that something was wrong when she asked the size I wanted, she basically said No problem and she would get a manager to fix it..... So after a few minutes the manager (James) came up looking annoyed so I explained to him the misunderstanding and took full blame and said it was my fault and apologized again to him and he had basically given me the no problem response as well, he fixed the total without the extra 3 orders of Redneck Nachos, then I paid, apologized again, thanked him, then left..... When I got to my truck I decided I wanted to get a sweet tea to take with me so I went back in to order one and saw James talking to Amya by the pick up counter, but he quickly walked away as I approached them, Amya looked visibly upset so when I ordered my to go tea, I told her that I told James that it was a misunderstanding and that I took the blame and hoped she wouldn't get in any trouble over the whole thing, to which she didn't verbally respond but kind of did like a snicker type laugh so I asked her if he yelled at her for it and she answered, "yeah he was just yelling at me about it, but it's ok" I responded "No, it's not ok, it wasn't your fault"she then told me that it is Normal procedure for a server/hostess to pay for that type of thing when it happens, so I asked her "Is he making you pay for this?" She said "No, not this time"..... So I asked what his name was and told her I wanted him back out front so I could complain to him, to which she just kept saying it was fine and giving me the impression that it would cause problems for her if I were to confront him about it there tonight, So I asked for her name, thanked her again, apologized again, and left upset that he would yell at and basically threaten to take money out of her pocket for something that was clearly a mistake, and quite frankly a mistake I made....... I'm not sure if it is their policy to make employees pay for those kind I mistakes or not, but that is ridiculous if you do, and extremely ridiculous to yell at and threaten to take money from your employees for a customer error..... I would sincerely hope that this matter gets addressed. read more

I have been here twice in two weeks. Once for the redneck nachos which BTW are great as a meal in it self. Today I got the smoking hot deal for $6.99 includes sandwich, one side and a drink. Pulled pork is great and is moist, fries a good for your basic crinkle cut fries. I love the variety of BBQ sauces to choose from. Went last night to BubbaQues and my husband ordered a shot of Jameson Whiskey. The waitress brought 2 shots and said it was 2 for 1. Husband was happy, until the bill came...that 2 for 1 was $12!!. My husband gets shots of Jameson wherever we eat and never is it even near $12!!! We called the waitress over and told her this had to be a mistake and she mumbled something then walked away. The manager came over and said it is always 2 For 1 here and that it was the correct price making it $6.00 a shot. We said ok, if it is $6.00 a shot and he ordered one shot, why are we being forced to buy 2 shots? He said because it is 2 for 1. I'm thinking no one can be this dumb but I go on to say Cody's has 2 for 1 and we get charged for one shot, not two. He said, 'Well I used to work at Cody's and they water down their shots and don't give you full shots and we use different glasses that hold more." Yes, those were his exact words. Cody's uses the same glass even tho that makes no difference. Needless to say, if you order a drink at BubbaQues, get the price first, you're going to be ripped off. They just lost us as customers and we will probably be reporting this to the alcohol regulating commission. Update: Thought we would give it another try and not order drinks. Ordered fried shrimp, collard greens (they were out of squash) and fries. Friend ordered the same. The shrimp was so hard we couldn't even bite it. We told the waitress. Her response was, " Its only the coating that's hard, take it off". Really??? Both my friend and I were physically sick by the time we got home. How old was that shrimp?? I'm not sure where to start. This had to be my weirdest experience at a sit down restaurant ever. After we placed our drink order an older gentleman approached our table and set out stacks of American flag stickers. Gave us a paper with prices, etc. I've been solicited like this several times and have him a small bill for a few flat stickers. He then spoke.... This whole time he was putting on he was deaf. Dropped a bunch bare Kristina booklets and promptly walked away. Ok, that's pretty weird. I looked for a trash can for the garbage he left on our table and one of the servers took it. She didn't throw it away. She had a waitress meeting over to the side peering at us ever so often. I started to walk out at this point, from feeling uncomfortable. My wife convinced me to stay because our food was about to come out. The food was far from normal as well. I've never seen white meat beef brisket till today. Tastes a lot like sliced pork loin. Again, weird. We finish, and get the check for a total of $61.72. Ok, I give them my card and get the ticket back for $65.17. I still left a tip, but adjusted it for the difference. I didn't complain about any of it because I didn't want my food messed with and we have other things to do besides argue with these people. Not sure if we will be back or not! I'm just trying to get over the money cult soliciting us at lunch and tricking us into supporting them. Is hare Kristina soliciting a standard thing here? If so I'm out for good. My wife and I have been huge fans of the sticky bones ribs here for a long time. The last two times we ordered takeout (just last night) and the meat was of such poor quality, 2/3 gristle and fat or more and the meat that was available was very dry (yuck), to the point that last night we both threw the meal in the garbage after trying to get through it, that's the last two meals, $ 28.00 plus tip both times, we will not be going back again, just terrible. read more

I had heard such great things about this chain but... I had the piggy ribs and I would not recommend them. The ribs were dry and over cooked verging on being burned. The worst thing was that they had no detectable smoke flavor. The only good thing about the experience was their mustard sauce. I tried all of the sauces and it was by far the best. We also had a pulled pork meal. The meat quality was better but it also had no Smokey taste. The fried Okra was prepared well. The sweet potato fries were normal. The Italian green beans had no other seasoning than a little butter and were a little undercooked. The service was decent. The atmosphere was artificially country. We tried Bubbaques in Dunnellon for the 1st time it was delicious and very filling I had the brisket basket the poppers were really good loved all their sauces our waitress was very polite and told us all about their daily specials we will definitely go again the prices are very good try you'll like it read more

Went here for lunch expecting it to be as good as the one in Crystal River. Well this was no nearly as good. Chicken was dry and all the portions seemed much skimpier than the one in Crystal River. Won't be back to this one. Never expect things to be the same just because of the franchise name. There aren't many restaurants in this area open past 6 pm, so our choices were limited, but my husband and I do enjoy BBQ. The amosphere was ok and the wait staff were friendly enough. We ordered the fried pickles, St Louis Rib dinner with collards and fried okra along with the Baby back ribs dinner with baked beans and slaw. The fried pickles order got lost in the kitchen and we never got them. The St Louis ribs were very tender but had no taste. The fried okra was good. The collards were too salty and dry to eat. The baby back ribs had been cooked too long that the outer meat was like jerky. Dinner was about $35. Cost was ok but food wasn't great. We're on vacation and like to eat good food. I was so hungry that I went against my better judgment and ate here yesterday. As I lie on my deathbed wondering if dysentery or asphyxiation on my own vomit will be my ultimate demise; I can't help but to feel complete and utter disdain. Not for the establishment itself, the cold brisket I was served, the terrible service I received (by the backup waitresses, who were kind enough to let me know WHY my server disappeared-more on that later), nor the charges for coffee we never received. No, my resentment lies completely within myself. I knew better. If my previous experiences weren't enough, then I could have known it was going to be a risky maneuver by the utterly squalid state of the dining room, or possibly the fact that we were told, matter-of-factly, by our new waitress, that the previous one was on her way to the hospital, because she had been vomiting blood all day. This begs the question, "if there were backup servers on staff, why force the sick girl to come in?" Bad for business. Next time, if I am faced with the option of either a)starve to death or b)vomit cry shake diarrhea nausea chills contemplate suicide; I will undoubtedly choose the less colorful route. read more

The food is okay, not close to great BBQ though. Biggest problems are the service and cleanliness. The tables are sticky and the barbecue sauce bottles are sticky and disgusting on the outside. Even my knife, which was wrapped in plastic, was dirty and had crusty food particles on it. The staff seemed to be more interested in fooling around rather than paying attention to the customers. Went there last night. The volume of the TVs was so bad, that we asked to be moved. My husband enjoyed his meal; the rib meat fell off the bone. My chicken didn't taste like chicken. It was tender, but I didn't care for the taste at all. It was hard to get the server over to help us, although the person did cover over a few times. It has improved since the last time we went. I didn't like that the flat wear was in a plastic bag, and we had to open it up for use. I'm not sure if I want to go back.
