It was a perfect warm night to hang out in SF. I haven't been to Bubba Gumps in years so I decided to check it out. There weren't many people when I arrived and I was seated as soon as I got in. It was nice sitting next to the window to get a view. It took a while to get service which I didn't mind at first. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and the I'm Stuffed Shrimp. It took 20 mins for my food to come out and the chowder came out first. It was the bottom of the pot kind of chowder. It was ok, but it might have been because I was pretty hungry. When my main dish came out, it was cold. It might have tasted better if it was hot, but i was quite disappointed. I remember back in the day when the place was packed and servers were on point. I couldn't finish the food, it just started lacking after every bite. What made it worse is that I had no utensils. I had to get up and ask another server for them. I couldn't find my server to get the check. All in all, I was pretty disappointed and I most likely won't be coming back. The pier was packed and the other restaurants had heavy traffic of people. I should've read that as a sign. Don't let me knock you from visiting. You might have your favorite dish there and I may have come on a bad day, but that may have been my last time. I'm giving 3 stars because I was seated right away, I had good conversations with groups at other tables, and I always enjoy the questionnaire. read more

The Perks & Atmosphere If you have a Landry's Select Dining Card, it is a total lifesaver here. We were able to get a very short wait time despite the Sunday rush. We were lucky enough to snag a table by the window, and the views of the bay were honestly great--it's definitely one of the best parts of the dining experience at the Pier. The Food The meal was a bit of a mixed bag this time around: * Ribeye & Stuffed Shrimp: I ordered the 12oz boneless ribeye (cooked medium) with crab-stuffed shrimp, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. I absolutely loved my dish; the steak was prepared well and the shrimp were flavorful. * Crab and Shrimp Boil (Cajun): My daughter went with this one. It was a decent portion of snow crab, shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes. The kids really enjoyed the crab meat. * Maker's Mark Salmon: Unfortunately, my wife didn't enjoy her meal at all. The flame-grilled salmon was undercooked, which was disappointing given the price point. * Jambalaya: My son tried this, but it wasn't a hit with the kids. They mentioned they much prefer the version served at Yard House. * Kids Menu: We also grabbed a standard spaghetti and a side garden salad for the table, which were fine for the younger ones. So you do have to wait to eat here. Takes about 30/40 minutes, but since you are at the pier there is a lot to do while you wait. This place has always been a go to for my family and we still go here! Service was good today! Our waiter was excellent and provided instructions as well as fast service. I tried their shrimp boil, you do get a lot for the price but it wasn't spicy. We got the garlic and Cajun and it was pretty decent but not sure if I would get it again (felt it needed more of a kick but still worth the price since you get crab legs, shrimp, potatoes and sausage). The strawberry lemonade is actually pretty fresh and their sampler is huge. You can definitely share it! My partner loved their baby back ribs. After viewing the Sea Lions, my husband and I decided to stop in and sit at the bar for a small bite. We shared their shrimp cocktail, which was 8 jumbo shrimp for $16! That's a deal! Back home, it'd be 4 jumbo shrimp. The bartender, Jose, was very kind and suggested landmarks we ought to see. My family and I stopped by Bubba Gump's during a day trip to San Francisco. The atmosphere had good vibes and our server Azzo was outstanding, friendly, efficient, and gave a great recommendation. I went with the Shrimp Scampi which was excellent. My wife had the chicken salad and our son the macaroni and cheese with fries. We were lucky to get a window seat with a nice view of the water which made the meal even more enjoyable. The place was busy but it's easy to see why. The food and service were both top notch. We visited Bubba Gump Shrimp at Pier 39 with a big group of 11 (adults and kids), I was very surprised to be seated quickly. It wasn't too busy at 1pm on Sunday. Our experience in the past wasn't always the best... but this place offered variety of menu items for the adults and kids for inexpensive price. So we decided to check them out again. Charles was our server and was absolutely fantastic! He was very friendly, attentive, and funny. He really made sure everyone at the table was taken care! The food was delicious and came out hot and fresh. Everyone in our group found something they enjoyed even the kids! My fish and chips were fire and the portion size was HUGE! The view from our table was beautiful, overlooking the ocean and the ships passing by. The decor was really nice to look at too. Loved that there was a souvenir shop next door. Only complaint was that the menus felt sticky and bathrooms were gross. Other than that, everything was great. My mom and I were visiting from New Jersey and due to the time difference we were exhausted and hungry from our day of travel. We hadn't made dinner reservations anywhere but we had envisioned dining overlooking the bay. Fortunately, Bubba Gump Shrimp not only had zero wait time, they also overlook the water. While I have known of this chain for years, it was always so crowded at other tourist spots around the country for me to give it a try. However on this particular chilly evening in May, we were ushered to a table quickly. Our server greeted us and we placed our drink order. I opted for a specialty cocktail involving lemonade and strawberries, the name escapes me. We also decided to start with the garlic bread. Overall, the garlic bread is probably a 6 out of 10, but due to our hunger we began devouring it. It was steaming hot, buttery sourdough bread with a light garlic taste. The portion size was huge for just the two of us, so a group of four or more would probably do a better job demolishing the bread basket. For our entrees I opted for the sampling of 3 types of shrimp: fried, coconut, and tempura battered. The entree is served with 3 dipping sauces, a soy sauce based dipping sauce for the tempura, an orange marmalade style sauce for the coconut, and cocktail sauce. I asked for tarter for my fried shrimp. The shrimp in a basket over fries. It was perfectly cooked and a perfect entree for a shrimp lover, like Bubba. My mom did the fried chicken, which was comical since she doesn't eat a whole lot these days and it arrived with two huge pieces of fried chicken as big as her head with mashed potatoes and corn. After receiving our entrees we did not see our server until it was time for the check, but we didn't need anything so all was well. All in all, if you're looking for dinner and forgot to make a reservation overlooking the water, this place has great views and is good for a hungry tourist. read more

I've been waiting to come here for a while. I've never truly watched Forest Gump so I wasn't familiar with all the quotes, decor and other stuff regarding the movie themed restaurant. We came for an early dinner to celebrate my son's birthday. My wife and I had a really nice time eating seafood and just looking at the view of the Bay. I started with the clam chowder which I thought was just ok. It tasted like canned chowder; nothing about it was special. I had the Forrest Feast ($30) which came with Fish n Chips, fries, fried shrimp and seafood hush puppies. I thought the fried fish was pretty good with its crispy skin and tender white meat. It paired great with the coleslaw. The seafood hush puppies were slightly bland and just tasted like fried up doughy potatoes. My wife enjoyed her crab & shrimp boil. She thoroughly enjoyed dipping the seafood into melted butter and Louisiana hot sauce. My son had their Mac n cheese which again, tasted like microwaved Kraft macaroni. Our server Anthony did a great job entertaining us and making sure we had everything we needed. The food takes a while being made I noticed but they do bring everything at once as opposed to the starters first. Overall, this place is cool and we'd definitely come back again. The food isn't bad but it's not going to be the freshest prepared or the best tasting. It's like a seafood version of Chili's. Their service is excellent here and the vibe is awesome! read more

I am impressed with the longevity of this restaurant chain after nearly 30 years from its start in Monterey, CA. Their specialty is seafood cuisine, and the crowds continue to flock into this restaurant on a weekday, before lunch. They lost my reservation, but still gave us a window seat. We ordered the Shrimper's Heaven ($29), Grilled Salmon ($28), and Jumbo shrimp cocktail ($16 for eight pieces). All were prepared well and tasty. Of course, the prices exclude tip and tax. The server was friendly and courteous. The noise level was high, and the parking was across the street in a garage at rapacious $10 an hour. This restaurant is located at the very end of Pier 39. Although the food was good, the pricey menu will make a return visit infrequent. read more

I came here today during fleet week with my two sons for lunch. We were seated quite quickly next to the window as we asked for. The restaurant was fairly empty when we first arrived as the festivities are not quite started yet. We did note that there was a sign near the door that said that during Fleet week there was a 1 1/2 hour time limit for each table which we could appreciate. So my son's ordered the salmon and the shrimp scampi and I ordered the crab boil. For my crab boil, I asked for Cajun and the regular seasoning. I was actually pleasantly surprised when it came out. The seasoning was on point and they gave me two clusters of snow, crab, and plenty of potatoes and corn. I would've wanted it a little bit more sausage, but this is very filling and I had enough for it to go box. My son's at the salmon was a little bit dry, but he ordered fries with his and ate his salmon with the fries and was pretty satisfied. My son said the shrimp scampi was pretty cheesy and buttery and good. Our bill came to about 120 bucks which is pretty reasonable for San Francisco. I think $40 for my meal was outstanding. It makes me want to come back! The service was just OK. Our server did not refill our drinks and did not come to check on us at all. I would've wanted more than that. I flagged her down to get our check and she then told me about the time limit. I was going to stay for another 20 minutes felt rushed even though we still had about 30 minutes left that we could've stayed because of the awkward way she told us we need to leave. That wasn't very great an experience. So this is why I'm taking off one star. But overall, the food was good, having leftovers was a plus and the seating next to the window was also plus. read more

What a horrible experience we had yesterday at this Bubba Gump's restaurant at Pier 39 in San Francisco! The food was not what we typically expect from Bubba Gump restaurants, and the service was absolutely the worst! It took over 20 minutes even to get a server to come to our table to order water, and she said she would be back to take our order. According to the staff, the resturant was going to close early due to PG&E maintenance. The way the staff and kitchen handled this was horrible. Our food didn't taste the best, and our kids' meals came out dry, and we were told that they couldn't give us lemon for our son's shrimp because the kitchen was closing. We even had to ask for spaghetti sauce for our son's dinner because it came out so dry, with almost no sauce. Our server was nowhere to be found because while they had customers, the staff were sweeping and cleaning the restaurant. I was so upset that we paid over $ 100 for terrible food, atmosphere, and customer service. This was supposed to be my Mother's Day Dinner, and it was beyond disappointing!! read more

My family and I decided to have lunch here after an afternoon of being tourists in the city. We checked in and were told it would be a 5-15 minute wait. After 9 minutes, we were seated. The restaurant was huge, lots of seating available. It sat on the top of the pier, second story and where we were seated, we could see Alcatraz. Our server's name was Mark G. and he REALLY took care of us. He always checked in on us, despite them getting busier at time started to progress. After my family got their meal, I was told my meal would be coming out shortly by another server. Unfortunately, I didn't get my meal and waited some time. Mark passed by and noticed I didn't have a meal in front of me and asked me where it was? I laughed jokingly and said I don't know, I'm still waiting. Mark was a bit shock, but informed me he'll get on it and check on it. Shortly after Mark came by with my meal and it was still hot and ready to eat. Totally worth the wait though! After our lunch, we received our bill and Mark removed my lunch item and I was shocked. He thanked us for being patient with him through the busyness and apologized for the wait time on my food. Came here for lunch after doing the Alcatraz tour. We got there shortly after it opened. Had a beautiful spot to sit overlooking the bay. Our server was super friendly and understanding especially as our toddler was having a hunger melt down. We were able to order his food immediately and it came out 5 minutes later. I had a lava flow which was FANTASTIC! I also ordered the coconut shrimp with fries and my husband ordered the special 30th anniversary Lt. Dan drunken shrimp. He loved it as well. Our friend ordered a mango mojito and she also loved it. The server was very kind and helpful. She showed us how to get our souvenir glasses and washed my son's souvenir cup. It's been a minute since we've visited Bubba Gump's in San Francisco. My daughter bugged me for a long time to come and I've purposely brushed it off. I gave in and brought her. Hopefully she's learned her lesson. The place was empty for a reason. Our server was clearly annoyed when we called her back to ask for another drink. The food was not worth the ridiculous price. Updated Review (3/28/26): I wanted to update my experience after giving it some time and attempting to resolve things privately. I was misgendered by my server shortly after being seated. While he did apologize, he followed it by saying he "assumed I was a girl based on my long hair," which was disappointing and unnecessary. Assumptions like that are exactly what create uncomfortable environments for people. What made things worse was how management handled it. I spoke to the manager, James, and district manager, Douglas Biema, and instead of addressing the situation with professionalism, I felt dismissed. I was told, "good luck going up that flag pole, you're not going to get far," which came across as disrespectful and not something you expect when raising a legitimate concern. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable staying. I had only received calamari and a beer, and my jambalaya was delayed, so I offered to just pay for what I had and leave. The experience had already been impacted, and I didn't feel it was worth continuing the visit. I also reached out to corporate afterward and haven't received a response, which adds to the frustration. There were other tables expressing dissatisfaction during my visit as well, so this didn't feel like an isolated issue. Overall, the lack of professionalism and how the situation was handled left a negative impression. I hope the business takes feedback like this seriously moving forward. read more

The only downside to this place was that they used to do Forrest Gump quizzes for free dessert and i wish they would bring that back but that was a long time ago. I have been bringing my son here every few years for the last two decades. Even with all the excellent gourmet food available in the city, he still craves Bubba Gump every now and then. They can get incredibly busy, so depending on when you're planning to visit you might want to make a reservation. We made a reservation for our visit last week and outside of two or three people that had just walked in off the pier, there was no one waiting and we were seated right away. I think there was some sort of school field trip or party in the restaurant because someone was getting on a microphone every now and then. The restaurant was busy but not packed, however, it is always so incredibly loud inside that you cannot hear each other talk. If you cannot handle a very loud noise level, this restaurant is not for you. There are also partial Bay views depending on where you're seated as you can see in my photos. We started with a couple of Long Island iced teas and fried pickles. Later we had the run across America sampler which has fried shrimp, seafood, hush puppies, chicken tenders and chips with spinach dip and my son also had the shrimpers heaven. The food is pretty good and if you are careful you can eat good at a reasonable price here... We are never careful lol. The service is pretty attentive and friendly and the bathrooms were clean. Again, the biggest issue for me here is that I can't hear my son talking to me across the table and we have to yell back and forth to one another to or be able to have any kind of dinner conversation. If you are someone who doesn't like noisy spaces, this is not for you. Also, if you are someone who doesn't like seafood, definitely don't come here. While they do have options that are not seafood, those options are basic and limited. I know we will continue to come here as long as this location stands and I know that because of where it is, they will never have a shortage of business, just make sure you know what you're getting into before you come and you'll have a nice time. read more
