The lemon pepper wings are AMAZING! They have a subtle sweetness to them. The fries appeared to be cut and fried fresh upon order and were seasoned perfectly. The Ched-da-Sack sliders were simple and delicious. A juicy patty sat on a buttered & toasted bun with a slice of melted cheddar cheese. Nothing fancy but simplicity is what really makes these sliders delicious. I was expecting the the sweet chili wings to be spicy but they weren't spicy to me. The sticky ginger garlic wings seemed similar to the sweet chili wings but just had a ginger taste. The lemon pepper wings really blew my mind so I think the other two seemed milder in flavor. Customer service is great. The employee was really friendly. I also request both ranch and blue cheese and - wow - they did not skimp! They gave us so much! I will definitely be ordering from BSO again when I'm in the mood for wings and sliders. read more

Overall *** I was extremely excited to find something new with such great Yelp reviews and I really wanted to love BSO but it unfortunately only receives 2.67 weighted Stars from me and I would be reluctant to return as it's not pretty to look at and our food was not very good. BSO stands for "Brown Sugar Okra" which doesn't make a ton of sense for a primarily wing place but there is West African influences on the menu. Once again I have seemed to have fallen into a 3 Star rut, maybe I need to just lower my expectations in these times. Setting ** Located in the heart of Hackensack's downtown and on a Thursday night the area was very quiet with only a few businesses operating and the streets empty which allowed for plenty of parking. Inside it looks more like a 1970's diner which could be cool but this was a bit too brown and boring for my taste. I'm not sure what look and feel they are going for here as it is a bit disjointed with giant fake bottles of wine combined with bamboo trees and R&B music blasting. Due to its age it is slightly worn down but overall looked spotless. Service **** A friendly young man greeted us and made recommendations with ease. We were going to end up eating in the car so I asked him to please pack extra napkins which he assured me he did, there were only four napkins in the bag. It's probably best to call ahead as it takes about 20 minutes to cook. Food ** There is real potential here but our food was not good for one very simple reason, the fryer oil was old and dirty. It was a very slow night so they must have turned down the heat on the fryer then turned it up when we ordered. As the oil came up to temperature I couldn't help but notice the smoke it was emitting, I almost canceled our order at that point but I felt bad since they were so slow so I ignored it. Unfortunately ignoring it wasn't really an option because as the cooking process continued the restaurant started to fill up with smoke and the horrible smell of the dirty oil. The smell and bitter taste carried over to the food and while edible it was not all that enjoyable. We ordered 1 of the Brown Sugar Wings which I found just sticky and 2 orders of the Salt and Pepper which had more Pepper than Salt. The fries appear to be fresh made in house but suffered from the aforementioned burnt oil taste. Days later the odor still lingers in my car. Value **** $10 for Wings and abundant Fries is a ridiculously good deal, just wish the food was better. read more

Really wanted to love this place based on the few reviews and delicious pictures posted but fool me twice shame on you. I had a late night craving for wings around 11pm on a Wednesday and being a Hackensack resident wanted to support the nearest wing spot and saw they were open until 2AM - Perfect. Went to order on my phone , saw only preorders were being accepted. Fine maybe the app is being weird... So I try calling twice and no one picks up. I give up for the night but still want to give it a go. Coming home from work the next day Thursday at 5PM I am finally able to place an order on the app and get the auto "Your order has been received" and think I'm all set for some delicious Chicken Suya. Arrive about 30 mins later to a COMPLETELY empty restaurant, as in no customers and no workers to be seen. I'm easy going so I wait around patiently for a few then decide I need to make some moves... I start walking towards the back where I finally see an employee in a back room and wave him over. I let them know my name and I'm picking up and notice his visible confusion. Long story long...he admitted their Yelp/Grubhub app notification was not enabled , and the oil to make the food is not even ready. 2 Stars only because the employee was apologetic and was able to refund the order. Went home hungry and will prob never attempt to place a third order at this place again. read more

We read an article about this location and are always excited to support local businesses. Unfortunately, our first experience was disappointing. We ordered 25 wings with three sauces, an order of fries, a mac and cheese, sweet potato fries, and the 5-wings with fries special. It was supposedly to arrive between 6:55 and 7:05, but didn't arrive until 7:40! My delivery person was excellent at keeping me posted and reported that they were very busy and slow. He waited the whole time. We wouldn't have minded the wait if the wings were worthwhile. Sadly, they were just okay and we never received the mac and cheese OR extra fries and were only credited for the mac. The sauces were VERY tasty and some of the wings were cooked really well. Most were dry and overcooked. Some even chewy. The regular fries that came with the special were yummy, but the sweet potato fries were overcooked as well. We are going to chalk it up to a bad night and give them another try when they've been open a while longer. Maybe they are still working on their flow. read more

I stopped by this place as I was riding my motorcycle through town. I I order the Ginger Wings and Fries. The wings taste great, the right amount of Ginger sauce. I've never tried so hard to love a place... I've tried to order so many times and it's always a hassle. I told my fiancé last time I was done with them but wanted to give them business because I saw they closed down for a bit and I tried to order and it got cancelled through Yelp. I usually only write good reviews and if there are any bad ones, it's because they consistently did a poor job on their end. Enjoyed the food this evening. It was a Father (chef) and son (cashier) operation tonight which was nice to see. I tried the brown sugar wings, chicken bites, french fries, and sweet potato fries. It was all very good and a must try place. The portions were slightly above average which I appreciate as I am a large frame kind of guy and steer towards this. Pricing was on the friendly side encouraging me to return and explore the entire menu. Furthermore, the Chef was friendly and professional creating a welcoming environment. It was clear to me the chef takes pride in his work as he was wearing gloves in the kitchen and dressed the part! This kind of cleanliness is important to me as a germaphobe, and I think something we all can appreciate when dining (especially during a pandemic!). The chicken bites and brown sugar wings are a little bit spicy for somebody who does not like spicy food. If your a spice lover you will enjoy it and probably add some heat . I can handle only a little bit of heat and enjoyed everything very much, but it will be hard to frequent as my wife cant handle heat. Awesome experience and likely to return...quick recommendation for BSO.. maybe a sampler platter dinner for 2 or 4 people?
