Came here with Laura What an amazing decision to come here ! The food and customer service (provided by Gina) was super top notch! Everything was perfect. We ordered a variety of things, including a burger, steak frites, crinkle fries and mozzarella sticks. The best mozzarella sticks I've had! No exaggeration - the best and I'm usually not a huge mozzarella stick person. Steak in the "steak frites" order was nice and tender but not sure if it's worth $27. But still, nobody died We ordered two brookies to go and the chocolate chip with peanut candy to go. Great options! This will be , for sure, our new go to for burgers/food. My god - great place ! We also noticed they use FRESH strawberries for their strawberry milkshake. Xoxo - Gina you were amazing! read more

What a place!! High quality juicy burger in this local joint. I got MEL'S DOUBLE BURGER. Two Pat LaFrieda blend patties, caramelized onions, American cheese, and their sauce. WOW every bite is packed with flavor and juice. The onions and their sauce work really well with the patties. It's warm. Great portion. The vibe is local bar, chill, friendly neighborhood kinda thing. Retro decor with a pinball machine. Very cool. Lovely staff. Street parking. Definitely will come back. read more

Can't believe I had to find out about this place from a video about La Frieda steaks. I went to the store next day to get some lunch. There are street parkings available in front of the store. Inside the store, there's a beautiful small sitting area. There are few arcades available. The ordering station is far end of the store. I was so excited I ordered the cheesesteak, the sliders and mac & cheese bites. Gina was very friendly and helped me with deciding the order. Prices are good, 2 sliders for $13 and cheesesteak was $14. Took them about 10 minutes to prepare all the items. The sliders and cheesesteak were so good. The quality of La Frieda steak was so obvious. The yellow cheese, caramelized onion and buns, all of it complimented the patty. Loved the Mac & cheese bites as well. It was a unique item, haven't seen anywhere that I remember. They looked like nuggets with soft filling. I'll be back to try their burger and other sandwiches soon. read more

Today I flipped a coin to see if I'd enjoy my favorite burger at Mel's Butcher Box or order it home. The coin tossed was to GO visit the restaurant Which was very nice, because today the town had a temperature of 23°C, delicious air, partly cloudy. I walked there. It helped me 'cause I did some exercise. It takes 23 minutes to go and 23 minutes get back home. Which is great, because that way I burn off all the calories from my burger . I ordered one Mel's Double burger and regular HOUSE fries with an ice-cold Coke. AMAZING FOOD!!! The place is always super clean. You can see people enjoy the place and customer service, just like I do. It's a place where I feel very comfortable, employees treat you warm and the food is so tasty. It continues to be my best burger option in the area. Excellent work to the entire team. My blessings again. Thank you so much. read more

My husband wanted a really good cheesesteak and we've been having trouble finding one in the Bergen County area. He read about this place online so we decided to make the drive one Saturday to go try it out. We called it ahead of time and Mel answered the phone and was very friendly. It is very easy to find and we were able to get a parking spot right in front. I was surprised by the decor and how unique and cool it was when we walked inside. There is exposed brick and lots of Arcade style games. The place was empty when we arrived and our food was ready and Mel greeted us with a big smile. She mentioned how there is a karaoke night that she has often and that we should check it out. We ordered two sandwiches. One was the cheesesteak and one was the roasted pork. I preferred the roasted pork over the cheesesteak one. I thought the roasted pork was cooked perfectly and it had enough broccoli rob and cheese. It also had a great crisp on the outside, which I really liked. The cheesesteak the meat was really good and cooked very well, but there was some type of sauce on it that we did not care for that made it a little bit sweet. I don't know if it was worth the 30 minute drive to go there for the sandwiches, I'm happy we did go, but don't know if we'll do it again. read more

If you're looking for the PERFECT place to host a private event--or just want the BEST burger, milkshake, and onion rings of your life--go to Mel's Butcher Block in Tenafly. Full stop. We recently celebrated my son's graduation here, and I can't say enough about how amazing the experience was. Mel and her sister, Gina, went above and beyond to make it unforgettable. We rented the entire place for a Friday night party with 20-25 food-loving guests, and every single one of them was raving and highly impressed - and these are foodies, (from - NYC, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Long Island, Greenwich, Philly, Chicago, Maine, Vermont, Miami, Guatemala, Romania, Israel and Egypt); all BLOWN AWAY. The food? Absolutely off the charts. - Perfectly cooked hamburgers, cheesesteaks, chicken sandwiches - Creamy, fresh Caesar salad and mac & cheese - To-die-for onion rings - Killer fries and even potato skins that were a surprise hit - And the star: a jaw-dropping Tomahawk steak with my son's name and "Class of 2025" etched into the bone--an unforgettable touch. - And the milkshakes, delicious, were next level Beyond the food, Mel is simply the best. She was responsive, creative, thoughtful, and a joy to work with. She helped plan the menu, presentation, and even set up music and decorations. She made my son feel like a star, and that meant the world to us. My nieces and nephews loved the vintage pinball machines, and the whole space had the perfect energy--cozy but vibrant. Gina was outstanding too - constantly making sure everyone felt welcome, well taken care of, and was having a great time. She brought such a warmth and energy, ensuring every guest loved the food and felt special. You can tell Mel loves what she does. She's passionate, professional, warm, and deeply committed to making people happy through incredible food and a great experience. This place is a gem--whether you're planning an event or just stopping in for lunch, Mel's Butcher Block is a 10/10. read more

My friend and I stumbled upon Mel's after our original lunch plans fell through. The service was quick and friendly. My friend ordered a cheesesteak and I got the Mel's Double with a side of mac & cheese bites. The food came out quickly and everything was very solid. My burger had a good amount of meat and it was seasoned well. The onions and sauce complimented it perfectly. The meat was juicy and it had the right amount of cheese on top. The bun wasn't my favorite but it was not bad at all. Overall a very, very solid burger. The mac and cheese bites were solid as well. Nothing mind-blowing but I definitely enjoyed. My friend was also pleased with his cheesesteak. The place is pricey but they serve quality food. I would definitely come back. read more

The roast beef with melted mozzarella and gravy not rare as described bland dry taste. Tater tots and French fries overly salted

Had takeout food and honestly wished I had came in with friends, the ambiance was amazing, they really provided well customer service. I saw a group of people playing and eating, looked like such an amazing & relaxing time. read more

A solid Pat LaFreida beef Burger. Cozy spot, and loved the two throw back videos games especially Burger Time. Fries ok, could do with more seasoning. Interested when we go back to try some of the other items but needed to go for the Classic so we had a baseline. Service was friendly and quick, but a bit overpriced for 2 Burgers, 2 Fries, 2 bottles of water for almost $50. read more

I will start with the Ambiance. This place is awesome inside!! Love the fun decor, colors, and extras! Decorated for Halloween love that! Seasonal decor is the best! Check out my pictures. Very clean too!!! You can tell the people running this place the pride in it. Love that! Service was really good and they are in a really nice location. The burger! I ordered a plain cheddar cheeseburger and the meat quality was so good! The burger was juicy and had a really good grill char taste! Love that they have different options for cheese and not just American cheese. Nice menu selection especially for sides. Not huge on fries so usually prefer tots which they had! They were really good especially the spicy mayo sauce. The burger also came with homemade chips that were thin and crispy. Pretty good and I am not a big chip fan. Oreo milkshake was decent and they give you the thick straws which is like because the cookies always get stuck in the thin straws so that's a plus in my book! I will definitely be back for more!! read more

Very good and I'd go 3 1/2 stars. Burger was delicious but my double burger bun cost Mel's a star compared to bun on my wife's single burger. Chips and fries were very good. We'll be back. read more

Best burgers in Bergen County! Mel and Gina run a fantastic business. I have lunch there a few times a month and every sandwich and burger are part of my rotation. Mel even goes as far as stocking amazing Pat LaFreida meats in her fridge and will often order me a brisket in a pinch. Shakes are worth the trip and the pretzel is insanely good. read more

I just came across this fantastic spot just 3 minutes from my house. I couldn't believe I had not noticed this place before. My wife went out for a walk and noticed it so we went for an early dinner. The service was outstanding with the staff being friendly and welcoming. We sat in a nice looking booth decorated in really nice faux hide skins, and comfortable. The Cuban sandwich was truly delicious, using pork seasoned like my Puerto Rican grandmother made it. The sandwich was served with some home made chips and we ordered some sweet potato fries too, that were crispy and delicious. I had the pastrami sandwich which was served with some fantastic tasting slaw and mustard. It was so fresh and delicious I can't wait to go back to try some other items from the menu. This place uses Pat Lafreida meats which are the best cuts money can buy. They have a couple of pinball machines in the place and the design is quite unique which I like. The place is family friendly and is a true gem for some good food. A little expensive but you get what you pay for. I'm so glad they have opened a great place to eat near my house, since I was getting bored with my choices close to home. read more

So the gal taking the order was super friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic and way too much without an army to finish. Go hungry. Located in Teanfly downtown district this cute little shop is the perfect balance of trendy and traditional. The cheesesteak was amazing. The friend mozzarella and homemade vodka sauce what my favorite. They have happy house milkshake flavors from 3-6pm Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because it was a bit pricey. But loved the experience. read more

Gf and I just tried this place after finding it on Yelp. They recommended the burger sliders and the cheesesteak. Both were amazing, juicy and exactly what we wanted from a burger and cheesesteak. We had a great lunch at Mel's today. We had a salad, burger, and awesome pretzel. The burger was cooked to perfection, juicy, on a great bun. Salad was well adorned, delicious, and plentiful. Took home leftover salad, it was so big. Pretzel was also great. We will definitely return. Yummy. read more

Excellent burgers. Not quite smash-style, but not a pub burger either - somewhere in the vicinity of, but a little thicker than, Five Guys or Shake Shack. Special attention should be paid to the buns, which appear to be homemade, and are buttery and toasted - they remind me (in the best way possible) of the burger buns at Fuddrucker's. Mel's offers minimal toppings, suggesting that diners taste the meat rather than what is often effectively a salad on top of their burger. I appreciate this in principle, but in practice I feel a slice of raw onion and some pickles helps make something as fatty as a burger more enjoyable as it helps avoid "richness fatigue". Nitpick aside, this is easily as it good as it gets for burgers in the vicinity. read more

OMG delicious eats at Mels ButcherBox with Pat Lafrieda meats! Frickin amazin and friendly service with a fun atmosphere. I'm picky about my cheesesteaks having spent 4 years in the vicinity of Pat's Cheesesteaks in Philly...but Mel's may have them beat. Brooklyn's Best Chicken Sandwich was perfect cooked...crispy on the outside and sooo tender on the inside. Even the hot dog my daughter got was delicious. Bravo Mel...so far sooo good! read more

Fantastic burgers, personal service, BYOB. Get the double cheeseburger with bacon, and bring your own beer

We ordered the butcher box sampler online for $46 because we thought it was a really good deal. Unfortunately, we did not receive the onion rings or house fries as mentioned online. We called the restaurant and the person who answered stated that the sampler does not come with onion rings or fries. He said he would let his boss know about the error online. BUT if I would have just ordered the steak sandwich, chicken sandwich, and sliders separately, the total would have been $39. I am not sure if the restaurant is trying to deceive their customers or maybe the person on the phone was uninformed. Either way, this left a bad taste in my mouth which sucks because the sandwiches were actually delicious. read more

AMAZING . Mel's double burger might have been the most delicious burger I've ever had. The burger was prime beef but the bun and the sauce really put it in its own league. So perfect. New Burger place in the area. It was pretty good. The fries were delicious. The burger was good which comes with chips, but it just needed some kind of sauce, like what's on Mel's double burger. Overpriced.. it shouldn't cost $18 for a double bacon cheeseburger with a small handful of potato chips. I also ordered their "$5 special milkshake" but asked for Oreos to be added to it. I was fine with an extra charge for the Oreos. I was given a plain vanilla shake and told that if I wanted to add the oreos I would have to be charged the regular $10 shake price and then have the Oreo topping price on top of that. What? So they have no way to add toppings to the special drink price for a fee? Terrible. I will not be returning. The woman working the counter was very nice though she was just doing her job. read more

Everyday other Thursday (on pay day) my co workers and I order lunch. I stumbled upon this place as I always pass it coming to work. For some reason I always thought it was a steak house lol. So when we were looking up food places to order from, this place came up and it ended up being a burger spot (and I am a hugeeeee burger girl). We decided to give it a shot, some of us got the Mel's double, the rest of us got the cheese steak. Needless to say, everyone rated this 10/10. Fries were soggy when it got to us but I'm sure if we had it in the restaurant it would've been so crispy and fresh. Burger was soooo good, nothing special nothing crazy just a good ass burger with perfect caramel iced onions and their secret sauce. I have to try the mozz sticks and cheese steaks next time! read more

We ordered multiple burgers and sides from Mel's and the food is good. Sure it's expensive, but considering that Mel's takes advantage of the affluent town of Tenafly, perhaps it's not such a bad deal. The vibe and decor inside also provide a nice ambiance. However, the service was abysmal... they did not honor a coupon/flash deal as advertised, and they also inadvertently left out a side order which was paid for. Mistakes obviously happen, which is understandable, but the staff (i.e., the two main ladies) were extremely off-putting and rude in fixing the order. All-in-all, if you like decent expensive fast food, then this place is for you... but if you're a snowflake like me and prefer not to deal with a staff that won't treat you with the respect and patience that you deserve as a customer, then there are better (and less expensive) spots out there. read more

I was in the mood for a burger and ordered the butcher box classic and fries... YUMMMMM!
