No exaggeration - the best and I'm usually not a huge mozzarella stick person. Steak in the "steak frites" order was nice and tender but not sure if it's worth $27. But still, nobody died We ordered two brookies to go and the chocolate chip with peanut candy to go. Great options! This will be , for sure, our new go to for burgers/food. My god - great place ! What a place!! High quality juicy burger in this local joint. I got MEL'S DOUBLE BURGER. Two Pat LaFrieda blend patties, caramelized onions, American cheese, and their sauce. WOW every bite is packed with flavor and juice. The onions and their sauce work really well with the patties. It's warm. Great portion. Can't believe I had to find out about this place from a video about La Frieda steaks. I went to the store next day to get some lunch. There are street parkings available in front of the store. Inside the store, there's a beautiful small sitting area. There are few arcades available. The ordering station is far end of the store. I was so excited I ordered the cheesesteak, the sliders and mac & cheese bites. Gina was very friendly and helped me with deciding the order. Prices are good, 2 sliders for $13 and cheesesteak was $14. Took them about 10 minutes to prepare all the items. The sliders and cheesesteak were so good. The quality of La Frieda steak was so obvious. The yellow cheese, caramelized onion and buns, all of it complimented the patty. Loved the Mac & cheese bites as well. It was a unique item, haven't seen anywhere that I remember. They looked like nuggets with soft filling. I'll be back to try their burger and other sandwiches soon. read more

Today I flipped a coin to see if I'd enjoy my favorite burger at Mel's Butcher Box or order it home. The coin tossed was to GO visit the restaurant Which was very nice, because today the town had a temperature of 23°C, delicious air, partly cloudy. I walked there. It helped me 'cause I did some exercise. It takes 23 minutes to go and 23 minutes get back home. Which is great, because that way I burn off all the calories from my burger . I ordered one Mel's Double burger and regular HOUSE fries with an ice-cold Coke. AMAZING FOOD!!! The place is always super clean. You can see people enjoy the place and customer service, just like I do. It's a place where I feel very comfortable, employees treat you warm and the food is so tasty. My husband wanted a really good cheesesteak and we've been having trouble finding one in the Bergen County area. He read about this place online so we decided to make the drive one Saturday to go try it out. We called it ahead of time and Mel answered the phone and was very friendly. It is very easy to find and we were able to get a parking spot right in front. I was surprised by the decor and how unique and cool it was when we walked inside. There is exposed brick and lots of Arcade style games. The place was empty when we arrived and our food was ready and Mel greeted us with a big smile. She mentioned how there is a karaoke night that she has often and that we should check it out. We ordered two sandwiches. One was the cheesesteak and one was the roasted pork. I preferred the roasted pork over the cheesesteak one. I thought the roasted pork was cooked perfectly and it had enough broccoli rob and cheese. It also had a great crisp on the outside, which I really liked. The cheesesteak the meat was really good and cooked very well, but there was some type of sauce on it that we did not care for that made it a little bit sweet. I don't know if it was worth the 30 minute drive to go there for the sandwiches, I'm happy we did go, but don't know if we'll do it again. read more

My burger had a good amount of meat and it was seasoned well. The onions and sauce complimented it perfectly. The meat was juicy and it had the right amount of cheese on top. I just came across this fantastic spot just 3 minutes from my house. I couldn't believe I had not noticed this place before. My wife went out for a walk and noticed it so we went for an early dinner. The service was outstanding with the staff being friendly and welcoming. We sat in a nice looking booth decorated in really nice faux hide skins, and comfortable. The Cuban sandwich was truly delicious, using pork seasoned like my Puerto Rican grandmother made it. The sandwich was served with some home made chips and we ordered some sweet potato fries too, that were crispy and delicious. I had the pastrami sandwich which was served with some fantastic tasting slaw and mustard. It was so fresh and delicious I can't wait to go back to try some other items from the menu. This place uses Pat Lafreida meats which are the best cuts money can buy. They have a couple of pinball machines in the place and the design is quite unique which I like. The place is family friendly and is a true gem for some good food. A little expensive but you get what you pay for. Excellent burgers. Not quite smash-style, but not a pub burger either - somewhere in the vicinity of, but a little thicker than, Five Guys or Shake Shack. Special attention should be paid to the buns, which appear to be homemade, and are buttery and toasted - they remind me (in the best way possible) of the burger buns at Fuddrucker's. Mel's offers minimal toppings, suggesting that diners taste the meat rather than what is often effectively a salad on top of their burger. I appreciate this in principle, but in practice I feel a slice of raw onion and some pickles helps make something as fatty as a burger more enjoyable as it helps avoid "richness fatigue". Nitpick aside, this is easily as it good as it gets for burgers in the vicinity. read more

We ordered the butcher box sampler online for $46 because we thought it was a really good deal. Unfortunately, we did not receive the onion rings or house fries as mentioned online. We called the restaurant and the person who answered stated that the sampler does not come with onion rings or fries. He said he would let his boss know about the error online. BUT if I would have just ordered the steak sandwich, chicken sandwich, and sliders separately, the total would have been $39. I am not sure if the restaurant is trying to deceive their customers or maybe the person on the phone was uninformed. Overpriced.. it shouldn't cost $18 for a double bacon cheeseburger with a small handful of potato chips. I also ordered their "$5 special milkshake" but asked for Oreos to be added to it. I was fine with an extra charge for the Oreos. I was given a plain vanilla shake and told that if I wanted to add the oreos I would have to be charged the regular $10 shake price and then have the Oreo topping price on top of that. What? Sure it's expensive, but considering that Mel's takes advantage of the affluent town of Tenafly, perhaps it's not such a bad deal. The vibe and decor inside also provide a nice ambiance. However, the service was abysmal... they did not honor a coupon/flash deal as advertised, and they also inadvertently left out a side order which was paid for. Mistakes obviously happen, which is understandable, but the staff (i.e., the two main ladies) were extremely off-putting and rude in fixing the order. All-in-all, if you like decent expensive fast food, then this place is for you... but if you're a snowflake like me and prefer not to deal with a staff that won't treat you with the respect and patience that you deserve as a customer, then there are better (and less expensive) spots out there. read more
