I think they are known for their biscuits but the star for me was the freshly mixed and grilled pancakes. They just melt in your mouth. Real eggs. Ham steaks two ways. Stopped into Bryant's for breakfast as its a one of the long time breakfast joints in the city. In New Orleans there is a place similar to this called Betsy's. Bryant's is very small with limited seating with lines out the door throughout the day. I ordered the of fashioned Memphis breakfast consisting of the country ham, eggs, biscuits, sorghum molasses and biscuits. Omg was it great. Unfortunately its cash only and when I got to the front of the line ready to pay the cashier took the money I had and told me to pay the rest next time. Having been truly blown away by another Memphis staple in the form of Earnestine & Hazel's, I was good and ready the next morning for what was described to me as by far the best breakfast in town. While locals tell me that prices have gone up especially over the past year or so, my massive sample (known as "The Sampler", was $10.00, and was the most expensive thing on the menu. Five meats, three biscuits and three eggs for $10? Value if ever it existed. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Unfortunately, "you get what you pay for" came to mind a bit when I finally dug into my sampler platter. Graham and Summer Ave nests the ever so popular breakfast/brunch/diner joint. I didn't know what to order so I got the Sampler which consisted of 3 eggs, bacon, sausage, country ham, pork tenderloin, potato pattie, biscuits, grits and gravy. Everything was delicious and I found the homemade potato patties to be the tastiest of them all. There were 3 biscuits but I could only down 2 of them yummy flakey things with the gravy. This place is super popular as I went on a Sunday morning around 11am. The lines a bit long but moves very quickly and you can seat yourself right after you order and they'll bring you your food. i super super wanted to like this place. i rly did, especially since all my yelp friends raved about it. But it really was just okt, and it doesn't even hold a candle to bro Js. Since it's been so long, I can't specifically remember the exact dishes but all I remember was that.. they weren't that memorable. Seating wise, depends on when you come. If you come on a saturday morning like we did, then you'll have to fight for seats and just kind of hunker over the area like chinese people do on a regular basis in flushing. I did have to add butter and salt/pepper to the grits as they were pretty bland on their own. Overall the food was good. I saw David M.'s review and realized I hadn't reviewed Bryants! EVERYONE (visitors and Memphians alike) needs to eat at Bryants. Family owned and pretty much authentic breakfast. You may see them pulling the ham slices out of a frozen box, but you won't care when you take a bite of a country ham biscuit...the biscuits are perfect and will pretty much kill you with the lard/butter or whatever fat they use to make them so heavenly. Classic country handbills on the wall along with their great Tshirts. Nicest people around too. My wife craved their biscuits when she was pregnant with our daughter. Good lunch too (white beans n cornbread yum), but I don't think they serve BBQ anymore. I might be wrong. David's right in that it's probably one of the most diverse dining crowds in Memphis. The biscuits here make the meal. Possibly the best biscuits I have ever eaten. Light and airy, but with the sound structural integrity that make them the excellent base to a breakfast sandwich, and which could easily stand up to being drenched in gravy or anything else you could heap on to it. The flavor was buttery and just slightly salty, and the crust was golden and perfect; crisp, but not dry or overcooked. A close second are the eggs. (We got scrambled, which were exceedingly fluffy and light, but peering onto other customers' plates, the over easy eggs looks perfectly cooked.). We tried the sampler, with an extra biscuit, split between two people. This seems to be popular because the cashier immediately asked us if we wanted two plates without any prompting. Like I said above, the biscuits are the stars here. We tried all the meats on the sampler. All were ok to poor. Nothing special. But with the biscuits and fluffy scrambled eggs, the average meat quality is more than made up for. Same goes for the gravy. Its probably Cisco canned industrial stuff. Same with the meats.
