These guys helped me assemble a benelli shotgun I didn't even buy from them. Gave me a quick safety tutorial and sold me some ammo. All the other shops I called referred me to a gunsmith. They were the only ones who said come on in we'll figure it out. They had loads of shotguns for sale including a few mossbergs I haven't seen in stock anywhere else. I had a great experience here. I had two different employees help me out on separate occasions, both were very knowledgeable and helpful. They took the time to go over some firearm choices with me and didn't get impatient or throw attitude like some other places do. I like how the shop is small and you can see a lot of the accessories right in front of you instead of way on the other side of a counter. I would say the prices are on par with a mom and pop shop. You won't get Amazon prices here, but you'll get the help to pick out the right item you need, so I would gladly pay a bit more for a good experience. Plus, online shops do ship counterfeit items. Bought night sights from vc defense and paid $25 for installation. Three weeks later the front sight became loose (got pic attached). Went back today to show them the loose sights and to install a new set of sights I purchased online. Was told $50 to install new sights and will take about a week. Never heard a gunsmith/gunshop take a week to install anything much less sights on a Glock regardless of how busy they are. Probably busy posting YouTube videos then do actual work. This should be your "go to" gun store in Ventura County. Came in here earlier to help my non-native English speaking Father deal with a PPT on a pair of handguns he no longer wanted and the staff was professional & accommodating. Process was seamless. While waiting around, I checked out their inventory. Not only do they stock *EVERYTHING* AR15-related you could want, it's all top-tier quality stuff (BCM, Daniel Defense, Aero, Zev etc.), and *VERY* competitively priced for brick & mortar. Their selection of handguns (Glock, CZ, H&K, Sig, various 1911's, etc.) is also very impressive and fairly priced. They don't carry any of that cheap crap you'd find at gun shows or on eBay, nor any of that prepper nonsense. Staff is very knowledgeable regarding California's ridiculous and always changing laws (e.g. AR "pistols"). VC Defense is hands-down the best gun store in Southern California. With CA DOJ mandatory waiting periods, I go where the inventory is. Anything to reduce my overall wait time. However, other stores are so afraid of the Gubmint, that they require unAmerican restrictions that aren't even law. Not the case here. VC Defense would be my #1 choice for firearms and ammo purchases, if I lived closer to Thousand Oaks! I had a PPT to conduct and met the seller at the gun shop (Tactical Arms) up the street from VC Defense. Despite multiple calls to Tactical Arms the day before to confirm the business would be open, I arrived at the location to read a sign on the door saying "Sorry, we're closed today!" Luckily, VC Defense was only a stone's throw away, so we transitioned down the street! From the time I walked through the door at VC Defense, the Associates made you feel valued as a customer, unlike a place like Turner's Outdoorsman. Josh was very efficient with my PPT and had my paperwork completed within 20 minutes or so. After my 10-day waiting period, I returned to VC Defense where I met the owner, John von Colln. The night before, I saw a video John had posted on YouTube and I commented on how I admired his stance on gun shops being "essential" businesses during the pandemic lockdown and his tense interactions with Ventura County Sheriff Ayub. John immediately walked me into his office and showed me a brand-new video he was ready to post. I had no idea this place was here, it's very small. I had a gun shipped here, the staff...well the younger guys are a little too serious but the owner and the female are great. I recommend knowing the gun you bought and how to load and unload prior to receiving it, the young guy with glasses was telling me to push a lever on the gun that did not need to be pushed to unload it. Ultimately I would return to this place because I support local businesses and the experience was not necessarily bad. read more

I purchased a firearm from this store a few months ago and had an absolute horrifying experience with the owner John. He had me running all over town to produce several forms of identification that weren't necessary. I paid up front the total price. When I finally had enough of his run around, I simply and politely asked for a refund. This guy went nuts, yelling at me to get out of his store and "don't come back until you have a better attitude". Since when is asking for a refund a bad attitude? and of course the store had several customers at the time, everyone was embarrassed for this guy. No customer service skills at all! As a retired police officer, I have purchased many firearms over the years and have never been treated like this, ever! I did go through with the purchase, but I will never go to this shop again. So, I've been to this place twice, looking to purchase the latest edition to my collection. And each time, have been greeted by who I believe to the shop owner. Each time I have been there, he is on the phone, and completely rude to the customers. Even though they are the "only shop in town" they won't be for long, and customer service is key in the world of small business. So, if your in the market for a gun, or parts, there are much better places within a 20 minute drive that have extensive collections of parts and weapons. They have roughly 15 guns on "sale" and on display here. I would highly recommend searching elsewhere. Simply put, be nice and respectful of the people who walk in the door, and people would be more than willing to spend their money. Your in the right town for that, your just doing it wrong. They are great. Very busy, but friendly as possible about it. Just be patient when they are busy. They also will take appointmetns for people who need more time. Be wary of reviews that promote other shops in SIMI and don't have a history of past reviews. I recently bought a sig 1911 at Gretas, and now see it for almost $200 less here. They built a custom ar10 for me, and because they weren't busy when I picked it up, they spent an extra hour installing and adjusting a new scope for me as well. I drive 65 miles one way from the San Gabriel Valley to come here because this is THE go-to shop for me, period. There are others that are closer and maybe with bigger inventory, but that means diddly if the experience is unpleasant and if you're made to feel stupid or humiliated. Can't say enough great things about John, Micah, and the newer crew at VC Defense. As an firearms and tactics instructor, I can say that they are highly knowledgeable with no sales smoke and mirrors, and I have made new friends in a highly necessary industry. Yes, they are busy every day of every week that I walk in to buy something, but I have never felt or seen any rudeness, arrogance, or any other negative things others have posted; in fact, I am not hesitant to call them my friends, and I am glad to be theirs. It's a small shop, so inventory is naturally limited to shelf space depth. But they don't sell crap, nor do they sell things they wouldn't put on their own personal weapons. 80% lowers and 1911 kits? Check. AR rifle and pistol upper halves? In stock. Handguns? Selected from the remaining manufacturers who haven't pulled out of California yet for the stupidities imposed on them. Magpul, Daniel Defense, Lancer, Mission First Tactical, and other top-flight accessory makers? What color do you want to make your AR unique to you? Holsters....well, in my experience, you can stock every brand and style, and you still wouldn't have one that someone wanted. Special order them and make sure it's the one that suits your needs. I have at least 6-12 holsters for each handgun, and none work perfectly every time. Get used to it. Bought a M&P15 Magpul FDE Edition and a boatload of other accessories I wanted to equip the rifle with. Damn TACKDRIVER at any range (2" groups at 300 meters all day long), solid in the shoulder. Still more to go on the shopping list, Micah... Come out and see for yourself EXCEPT Thursdays and Sundays. Be patient if they're busy, ask the questions you need to ask, get solid answers, and make an informed purchasing decision. It was definitely not something I could tackle but the team was able to get it done and also complete the task same day. I wouldn't expect that every time but it was a nice surprise. I really can't say enough positive about my experiences at VC Defense. I walked in one day with quite a few questions - of course with the intent to purchase but needed to do a little in person research. I worked with John. He spent time talking about the laws in CA, walked me through the Glocks my wife and I were considering as well as educating me around a Remington 870 v. Mossberg 500 decision I had been weighing. I told him I would be back in three days with my wife to take our CA Firearm Certs and to purchase our firearms. I wondered what his response would be given the investment in time and not being able to purchase that day (my wife wasn't with me at the time). John gave me a card, told me to call with any questions left me feeling very encouraged and much more knowledgeable than when I walked in. We returned as promised and purchased our Glocks, ordered the Remington and picked up a Ruger 10/22 that I had my eyes on and he had in stock. When it was time to pick up the guns the crew was great, we dealt primarily with Thomas. For a small storefront the staff and impressive selection make it feel much bigger. The staff even pointed me in the direction of some optics they don't carry for my 10/22. I will be back to pick up a small .22 handgun to teach my kids on. John, Thomas and the crew have earned my business permanently.
