I took five steps into the store and was greeted by staff. I had a long gun in a case and was asked how I can be helped. I was sending a rifle to a relative out-of-state. I was asked to go to the main counter where I of course allowed staff member to open the case and examine the arm for safety purposes/standard protocol anywhere. I explained what I wanted to do and found the staff member to professional yet very personable. I am relatively new to the area and so this was a welcomed contact. I had been quoted a price for the action over the phone prior to my visit and the price was the same. This is very good-to find a business with the integrity, know how and desire to help the costumer with their needs. There was a large amount of firearms, equipment, ammunition and other shooting needs available. I have found a new gun store I can do business with, no need to go anywhere else. The people are rude the customer service is hit and miss depending on who you get. Purchased a gun being sold on consignment and the store would not even give us a magazine for it because the original magazine was over 10-round- ok- provide the equivalent 10 round. We paid for a firearm, not just the barrel- you need a magazine. After some debate, we were provided the 10 round- no discount - had to pay full price- it should be part of the sale imo. Can you imagine buying a car with no tires or no gas? This was our second purchase from the store and definitely our last. read more

This is now my go to gun store. Every gun store I have been to, there's always someone that speaks down to you a little, inadvertently or not, it's always done. From my experience, there isn't one person here that will do that. Every person here will go out of their way to answer all your questions and help you find what you need without rushing you or dismissing your concerns. Carl and Frank in particular have recently helped me find exactly what I need but you can't go wrong with anyone here. The prices here are very competitive also. Without having to support a range or humungous sales floor, you can really save some $$ here. The hours are pretty great too, they close at 7 so it gives me time to get home and head here after. This store has a great selection, they have guns on consignment which basically means you can purchase a used firearm that isn't on the California roster for approval of sales list at an agreed price between the owner and gun store. The first young man that started out helping me was tall he was wearing a black hat with a brown platted shirt. He seemed unhappy to assist me at first so an older man offered to help me instead, he wore a black and white hat and wore glasses and was a bit stocky very friendly and polite. There was another young man there as well, very polite and eager help he had short blonde hair with a mustache and was also tall. I was happy with the customer service overall. When it came to my handgun purchase and going to pick it up or just the handgun itself. When I went to pick it up everything looked good they let me dry fire with dummy rounds for the safety test, it functioned properly, everything was good on the outside. Due to my lack of experience and it being my first handgun purchase I should have looked closer at the sights from the top as well as the feed ramp. I should've field stripped it and looked at the slide rails but i didn't it was brand new that shouldn't be necessary. I just finished out the sale and took my gun home, I was just excited to have made my first handgun purchase. Once I got home I took closer look at it and noticed there was wear on the barrel's feed ramp and also on the rail that sits under the firing pin, minor but noticeable what was odd about it is that it looked like exposed metal that seemed to have rusted. My sister has purchased new guns and neither of them had this issue and just like with my sisters gun I cleaned it and lubricated it, it was pretty dirty for a new gun. I don't know if it had something to do with it being used for "a good day at the range" during the 10 day waiting period or, and I did some reading and it is known that Smith & Wesson test fires all there firearms prior to shipping them out for sale and most manufacturers coat their guns with a dry lubricant that prevents rust during shipment and storage and may sometimes leave a brown residue. I still felt that it was a bit too much wear for new handgun even after test firing from the manufacture. So it took about a month and a half before I got to take it to the range and I didn't even get through half a box of ammo before realizing that the sights were completely offset and unaligned. I also like to take it out every once in a while to give some and play with the trigger using dummy rounds and I've noticed I can pull my trigger all the way back and it shouldn't be doing that it's supposed to have a magazine disconnect that definitely has to be a manufacturer defect. That's why I believe it was more the manufacturer than the gun store. I haven't taken it to the range since, and I don't know if I should contact S&W and have them realign my sights and tell them that it appeared to have been used from the store because truthfully It's been months since I purchased it and I can't prove that the wear isn't from my use. I would've contacted Camarillo gun store but I doubt there would've been much they could or would do about it maybe just align the sights at an extra charge but nothing about the wear I found on it when I got home, it's not like buying a baseball bat you didn't use that you can return within 30 days for a refund or store credit after 30 days. Despite my experience with the handgun itself I would definitely go back and give it another shot with them, it's really hard to find a nice authentic gun store like Camarillo gun store you find unique guns in these kind of stores that you wouldn't at a turners or bass pro and if you do the only offered to law enforcement. Maybe this isn't the place to ask but has anyone else purchased S&W M&P9 M2.0 with the same or similar issues? read more

On 12/29/24 I posted a review headed BE SURE OF WHAT YOU'RE BUYING. This is an update. I did speak with Karlton. He agreed there was partial error on both parties. I didn't double check the model I was buying and on their end It really looks more like a misunderstanding as to what I intended to purchase. He offered an agreement to buy back the first purchase and sell me the one I originally wanted. Where the lines of communication crossed is still a bit of a mystery but, end result is in 10 days I will pick it up. Karlton handled a lot of paperwork with integrity, efficiency and a smile. My caution note about being sure still stands. Gun manufacturers produce more and more similar models to remain competitive and requres the buyer to be clearly specific about the features they want. Let me give my summary: the owner of this store is the worst. Before doing any business there realize this: 1) every gun store near by is cheaper than this place, for everything. 2) The transfer fee for firearms is $200, so don't do it, everywhere else is cheaper. Here is my personal story with them. I went in considering making a purchase. Weapons on other websites were cheaper and had exactly what I wanted so I purchased online. I was a first time gun buyer so I had no idea there was such a thing as a transfer fee. When I went to the store I found out that I was going to be charged 200 to just pick up the gun. I realized then that I was stuck. I couldn't return the gun, restocking fees, the stores own shipping fees, and other costs were going to be significant. Taking the gun also seemed like a bad option since I realized I was being scammed by this hidden fee. However, the less bad of the two in terms of cost, time, and effort seemed to be to go ahead with getting ripped off and take the gun from the store. The owner read my online review of his ridiculously high transfer fee and sent my gun back without telling me. When I arrived at the store to get it after waiting the required 10 days he told me he sent it back. I asked him why, he told me... But, so you know how you can expect to be treated and what kind of character this curmudgeon is, he did not simply tell me what he did but SWORE AT ME USING PROFANITY UNBECOMING OF SOMEONE OWNING A BUSINESS. For my part, I took the high road, and only asked for explanation of what fees I should be expecting since returning the weapon to the online store is not free, and I believe he will end up paying these since I will be taking him to court if necessary. The entire thing was so completely stupid on his part. This is what he should have done, were he not a ignorant neanderthal. 1) He should not have charged such a high transfer fee. Were his fees in line with other stores nearby this would not have felt like such blatant extortion but rather a newcomers mistake to gun ownership. I see that the fee is raised in order to make online purchases prohibitively expensive. I would probably do the same were I the owner of such a store. However, I would not make it so high as to divert business away from my store charging double, triple, or quadruple the market rate. Once you have the firearm shipped you are really without options and are pretty much forced to pay the fee. Therefore, it is very deceitful to charge such high fees. Furthermore, if the fee were not so high he would have lost the premium he charging on his in store weapons, a loss true, but he would have had a lifelong customer for the purchase of accessories, ammunition, and perhaps other firearms in the future. These profits would likely exceed the small amount he lost for this one purchase. What an idiot. 2) However, he did charge a high fee and therefore, I as a customer, was lost forever. But he should not have sent the weapon back, especially without telling me. Instead, if the negative review meant so much to him he should have worked out a deal with me to take it down, for instance, offering to discount some of the fee in order to take the negative review down. He may not have liked doing this, but it would have definitely been the more profitable route in the long run. Negative reviews are costly, and each one on each platform harms a businesses reputation. So in this case, it would have been worth it to him to make a deal. Now, since I know that negative reviews mean so much to him, I am very motivated to write more of them on every platform that it is common to do so, especially since I am justified in doing so by the atrocious manner I was treated. 3) But he was not smart and did not do this, instead choosing the stupidest path of all, sending it back and then CURSING AND SWEARING LIKE A LOW CLASS IMBECILE AT A CUSTOMER. This is how you will also be treated if you shop there, future customer. Now he has made an enemy, will possibly be going to small claims, and given me a lot of validation for how true my first review was. Now I am very determined to make this story known, and this is certainly the worst outcome for him, since I am pretty certain that he will bear the cost of the return from the online store and the fallout of future customers from bad reviews. read more

As a female, sometimes gun stores can be intimidating and the personel hard to approach or they are just plain rude. However, at the Camarillo Gun Store everyone working there is so nice and willing to speak with anyone and everyone, they are very knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have without making you feel stupid for asking. Even though they are always busy they will take their time with you without being pushy, having a "im better than you" or "when's lunch" attitude. They are all genuinely nice guys and just want to help. A+++ customer service. I wish all gun stores were like them so more women would feel comfortable with firearms and join the fold. Selection is great they have a wide variety of long guns and handguns available. And their pricing is upfront (no hidden price tags here) and very reasonable. I absolutely love this store! read more

I've never left a review before on any establishment but I had to leave one for this place, I happened to be in the area and decided to check it out and see what they had since I've never been there, checked out a few handguns and the worker helping me seemed so uninterested in the questions I had and gave me weird looks as if I was doing something wrong, while he was also helping out another person and seemed way more interested and enthusiastic which made me feel uncomfortable and decided to check out their other products, got many looks as I was checking out their stuff, then I got approached by an older individual after he passed by me 2 times when he decided to weirdly asked if everything was okay, kind of insinuating that I was up to something, and I said yes just checking out your ear protection, and then not even 30 seconds later, I got approached by a second individual that also asked if everything was okay, decided to just hurry and purchase some new ear protection and a gun lubricant, and then the person at the register also treated me in a very uncomfortable way while I was trying to be polite and respectful, not sure what's up with the staff at this location probably varies from who helps you out which is a shame because it's a nice shop and have a lot of variety but overall weird vibes from the staff and will not go again. read more

I bought a 1952 Winchester Model 94 Carbine and when I brought it home, discovered it wouldn't load properly. I brought it back immediately and they agreed to send it to their gunsmith for cleaning, oiling and adjusting, and to cover that cost, said it'd take a week, tops. Eleven days later I was told by Bryan that the gunsmith was waiting for a part to be shipped, but that the repair cost would be covered. The gun finally arrived back at their store and in a subsequent conversation with Bryan, he denied ever having told me they would cover the costs; shame on you, Bryan. Their first mistake was not loading the gun prior to sealing the deal, ensuring it was fully functional and safe to fire, which, Karl, nice as he is, freely admits was an oversight; I just don't know why they opted to piss off a good customer. Instead, they hid behind their final sale/as-is/no refund policy on used guns, and claim they don't inspect consignment guns before they're sold (I bet they do and just don't fix 'em); if one of them ended up maiming or killing the user, they and their policy wouldn't stand a chance in court. All they hadda do was the right thing and keep this customer satisfied, but they failed, hence, my review. I hope it was worth it, guys, I will definitely spread the word that the Camarillo Gun Store cares more about money than customer service. read more

Great prices Great selection but for the reasons I traveled it was well worth it. As a new ammo reloader you tend to jump in head first and not realize that the items you are going to need are more scarce than the ammunition you are trying to reload . This business has a great selection of reloading supplies which they should really show on their website . If I hadn't already online purchased most of my items I would have dropped quite a bit of money here. The pictures on Yelp are accurate as I walked in and all the shelves were stocked with powders, brass, primers and equipment. I would say that they could rival some big box stores that i've walked into recently. It's a great little road trip and there are local restaurants in the area that are pretty good too ! read more

Been doing business with this shop in my community since I met them in the original location.Karlton and his whole family are honest ,trustworthy , personable,,fair and the kind of people you wish you could do all manners of business with . His inventory is amazing. Reloading support, ammunition, new firearms and a kick ass consignment section bigger than other gun shops whole inventory. In the wild and crazy world we live in it's hard for me not to get stoked on a place that does there job so well especially when you have been doing it as long as I have . You see the places in LA with the arrogant staffs that think they know it all or the places that treat you like your sleep holding a number that disregard questions you have. .. I've been to Camarillo Gun store twice, but due to the shortage of ammo, have not been able to find what I'm looking for. Staff were super friendly and this is the kind of place that any gun owner / 2nd amendment person would feel very comfortable. The only negative is that you have to wait outside / on a surveillance camera before someone lets you in. They are probably doing because of the store size. No issue with this, accept, it's totally annoying standing outside for 30 minutes without any acknowledgement that they know you're there. read more

Let's be blunt and to the point...These guys know their stuff, don't push you around, don't give you attitude, don't give you the superiority complex that's oh-so-infamous at gun shops, and they go above and beyond in treating you well and prioritizing you when you decide to do business with them. Covid sucks, but they have it wired here. Show up, stand outside the door, and when they're ready, they come out to get you. I've never been pressured to make a purchase, big or small, although I've made my share both big and small. Very laid-back atmosphere, and tons of stock. They may not be a shop with a huge amount of square footage, but oh man, they seem to have everything, all the time. Just ask them if you don't see what you're after, chances are high that it's tucked gently in a specific spot in the shop. I feel very grateful, I live directly across the highway, and the thing I think is telling is that I find myself wanting to spend money here sometimes for no other reason than the fact that I want to support them. If I happen to get out of the office on time, I'll swing by and spend some money even if it's just a small purchase. The guys here have lots of character as well, are easy to talk to, and fun to have a laugh with! They take care of me as a customer, so I will continue to give them my business. read more

Walking in was like walking into a friends house that wanted to show all his cool stuff! The staff is great and doesn't make you feel like a bother, like some other places do. This gun store won't honor their own prices. They had a giant box of random stocks. I picked one out that was marked $60. I get to the register and they try to charge me $90 for it and absolutely refused to honor their own prices when it quite literally had a sticker that said $60. Quite a bad experience. I won't be returning, as this same behavior could be applied to any optic or firearm in their inventory. read more

My husband reloads his own ammo and we had been to this store before the recent change of ownership but they never seemed to have what he wanted in stock. We came in today to see the new store and very very pleased with the powder selection and other reloading supplies. They don't have a lot of firearms for sale but have all price ranges, starting at about $150 for a handgun. Staff was super nice while we were there even when the store got very busy with customers. I purchased my first gun from this store in way back in 1997. Fast forward to 2020 and I have since bought 6 more from them in the past 2 years because the staff is always very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about everything in that store. They seem to always have a good amount of inventory and the prices are very competitive if not equal to other stores. (If you want Walmart prices go shop there- oh that's right you can't anymore! I went to the store for my first the about 3 weeks ago and purchased a gun, ammo, and a pistol rack. The pistol rack was missing a part so I went back to the store and showed them what was missing. Please keep in mind that the rack only cost me $30.00. they opened another box and looked in it and ten boxed it back up. The pompous clerk/owner told me that I would have to go back to the manufacture to get the part that was missing from my brand new rack. ok, so i asked this guy if he could give me the number so I could call them. He looked up the manufacturers information and told me that they don't have a phone number only an email address... so I said what am I supposed to do with that? He had NO answer. So now I am looking at him dumbfounded thinking that he would give me the missing part out of the other new box and that he would send it back to the manufacture but no go. I was floored and speechless at this point so I asked him where is the customer service around here and is it really worth loosing a customer over a $3.00 part? and he said YES at this point YES I don't mind. so again confused I said in a slight heated voice are you serious this is really worth loosing a good paying customer over this and his reply was get out of my "blanking " store. I guess the days of customer service and being cordial to your customers is a thing of the past. These people have there heads so far up there butts that its not even funny but more worrisome that a business leader would treat someone like this. Forget large chain stores! This gun store is fabulous. All the employees are knowledgeable and great to deal with. We always bring our little white poodle in when we shop. Not only do they welcome him, but they found a perfect gun for his size. While this was just a joke, they were so kind in letting us take a photo of him with the gun. As a result, we returned a few days later with our daughter who purchased a Glock and several accessories a couple of weeks ago. We returned today. To make mother purchase, but unfortunately they did not have any in stock. We plan to keep following up with them weekly as we would not purchase any where else. The most incredible staff. We've met some amazing people who shop here as well. We will return, of course with our little white poodle. read more
