Today I called this business for the first time, and I am simply blown away (no pun intended). This is a "one man show" business (like mine is), and Courtland (the owner) wears all hats. Of course you must make an appointment (like most other gun stores since the China virus arrived), but I would imagine this is Courtland's regular policy, as is THE only guy. Although I have not yet purchased from him, this will be my exclusive gun shop from now until if or when I leave CA. As you speak with Courtland you immediately recognize that he is extremely knowledgeable (as you might hope since he IS the store owner), and he seems to be an extraordinarily straight shooter. If he had what I was looking for I would be there now to purchase it. But like so many other gun stores, his inventory is quite limited at the moment. However, Courtland is happy to try to locate the gun you are looking for with his 4 distributors, plus other websites like GunBroker.com, and he will notify you and order the gun the next day upon arrival. The majority of Courtland's customers seem to be in law enforcement, but he also sells to non-professionals (by appointment). When I asked him about the best personal carry semi-auto pistol he would recommend, he told me his first choice. However, when I NEXT mentioned that I MAY relocate to Arizona, he switched his recommendation to a different gun due to the fact that it could also receive a much larger magazine as compared to CA. He is also going to call all 4 of his distributors, and if they don't have one they will order it notify him once received. WOW! I have been looking for this particular gun for over 3 years, and have called numerous other stores, and this is the ONLY dealer who not only gives you the time of day, but in fact WORKS for you to help you to find what you are looking for. At this point I am happy reminded of what a similar store might look like back in Mayberry in 1966. I would imagine that this is the type of service I MIGHT expect, but never in these times! I explained what I wanted to do and found the staff member to professional yet very personable. I am relatively new to the area and so this was a welcomed contact. I had been quoted a price for the action over the phone prior to my visit and the price was the same. This is very good-to find a business with the integrity, know how and desire to help the costumer with their needs. There was a large amount of firearms, equipment, ammunition and other shooting needs available. I have found a new gun store I can do business with, no need to go anywhere else. Went in for a repair on my rifle. Ruger would fix it for free. It seems it was delayed a few weeks…read morebecause they forgot to send it till I reminded them. I had to go back in twice because ruger replaced my reciever and it was being treated as a new gun. I signed paperwork that said $0 owed 3 times. I was told I'd have to pay $40 for shipping wich is fine. Than at the last minute as they're handing me my gun they let me know if can't leave with it without paying +$200 in California taxes. Keep in mind I was there 4 times amd they never once mentioned I'd have to pay that much to send it out and send it back. I could have had it repaired here for that price. I have all the paperwork to prove it. I understand the mistake, but I don't understand the lack of explanation and attempt to make it right. Disappointing. There's a lot to like about that store.

TLDR: Stan (the owner) is an uneducated, hard-headed, lazy, paranoid old man. Take your business…read moreelsewhere if you value your time. First, there are his working hours. I've pulled up multiple times at 4:30PM, 30 minutes before closing DURING business days, and the store will already be closed up. No explanation, nothing. On TOP of already being open only 4 days per week, sometimes Stan will just take 2 more days off unannounced. You will just show up at his storefront only to be greeted with a sign that says, "taking Thurs and Fri off, see you next Tues." Also, I visited once to pick up ammunition and Stan is at the counter doing paperwork on his laptop and informs me I will have to wait for him to finish. I politely answered that's fine. Then proceeded to wait 20 minutes doing nothing before he "finishes" his paperwork and helps me. There was NO other person working at the store. Based on my experience, Stan clearly does not value your time, only his own. He may have lower fees but it is NOT worth your time. If you DO plan on visiting for God knows what reason, call ahead. But you're much better off taking your business elsewhere, plenty of good FFLs in the area (greta's, smokin b, etc) Third thing, Stan does NOT understand current California Gun Laws. His mentality is simply "My Shop, My Rules." You cannot reason with him, if you print out CA penal codes he will just throw it in the bin. He is not one of those pro 2A shops that wishes to empower his community. He is a paranoid conservative owner who only cares about himself. And if he THINKS you will harm him or his business in any way even if what you're doing is completely legal, he will just yell at you. He simply does not care. Despite holding an FFL07 license to manufacture, the owner panicked over a completely legal Glock upper assembly. It does not matter if its a gen 3 or gen 6, whether the slide or barrel is serialized or not, they are BOTH NOT FRAMES OR RECEIVERS in the eyes of the CA DOJ. I urge you Stan to read up on CA DOJ Penal Codes. He even went so far as to say this transfer will "put him in jail." Stan has no problem transfering a gen 3 upper. But if it is gen 6 upper, he will freak out saying that it must be DROS'd as a complete firearm, even though the gen 3 he transfered was NOT registered as a firearm. He seems to believe ANYTHING that is serialized is a receiver or frame which is very far from the truth. First off, a handgun part cannot EVER be classified as a receiver, that is reserved for LONG GUNS. Handgun parts can be classified as a frame. And secondly, a handgun upper assembly is NOT classified as a frame because it does not house a trigger mechanism or sear. LOOK IT UP in CFR handbook. He is just a paranoid old man who only cares about himself. And he will accuse you of trying to ruin his shop based on nothing but his own paranoia. Mind you these experiences all took place within about a month. It doesn't take long for Stan to show his true colors. This is my final warning, stay away from this shop. I don't know what it was like before but I can tell you what it is like right now, and it is not a friendly 2A shop. The owner is a lazy and selfish paranoid old man, who you do NOT want to deal with.

After a month passed I called to hear a status and nothing. I contacted back after a few weeks and no answer, nor calls back with the status. Keep in mind, Months passed and still no response and They never answer the phones, and At this point I wanted my stuff back and went to shop several times and no one was ever there. I finally get a response back I can pick them up. They told me they didn't touch them and couldn't get to it after having it for months. After I looked at my project I was furious. Seems they started it and had it sit with the humidity . As you can see in the pictures rust is all over my lower and upper. Luckily I took pictures of it when I dropped it off. The gun was not dropped off in this condition. They claimed they didn't touch but then said we put it in acetone. So first they said didn't touch it but after the I sent them them the pictures they said they put it in acetone. No sense of what they did or anything. And left it and let rust accumulate. They offered to fix it but after dealing with them, they lost credibility to me and after months of no response there was no way I wanted to deal with them again. I requested to be reimbursed for my damages for another shop to remove the rust from my gun and they declined. I try not to take up too much of their time when it's crowded. They seem to have a pretty large customer base including law enforcement, many of whom like to chat. I need to stop by soon and ask about mounting a period correct scope (hard to find) on an antique rifle I bought there. A lot of dealers these days arent keen on doing that these days. I called them, and they said no problem. They notified me less than an hour after I got the UPS notice that the package arrived at their location. I showed up just a short while later to start the process. Its a nice small shop in a quiet part of town. I really appreciated how chill the atmosphere was. I think it took all of 10 minutes to get the paperwork done, and off I went. 10 days wrapped, and I went for my pickup today. Again, the shop was super chill. Took less than 10 minutes to wrap everything up. Start to finish, the process was painless. Most gun shops are typically not places I'm super comfortable at. They tend to have semi aggressive staff, customers, or both. And they also tend to be very vocal about their political affiliations. VC Armory had none of those things. That alone is going to make them my go to LGS from here on out.

They do not understand all gun laws and there for make their customer jump through more legal hoops than need be. I don't expect every customer to know the laws so they are unaware VC is slightly incompetent. I even pointed out their error but they just raised their voices and yelled at me. In California , when buying a rifle, it is NOT necessary to show two forms of ID. If you have a California True ID (Golden Bear in corner with no restrictions) that is all you need. They insisted I needed more. Here's the law: Only if you have restrictions or are purchasing a hand gun or it's a PO box address etc... is a secondary ID proving address required). But they are so arrogant and elitist blow-hards they wouldn't even turn the page on the form that they used as their proof showing me. I said on the first page it states NO secondary ID required for rifles. But he refused to even look at the 1st page and read where it clearly states the secondary ID rule is ONLY for hand gun sales. So lazy. So every single rifle purchaser that had a California DL True ID with no restrictions and their address correct on the iD was and is made to show a secondary ID. Completely unnecessary so I asked them to send my "receiver(rifle) to their competitor down the street who is up on the law. And they're cheaper too (and very friendly with no attitude. VC waste their customer's time making them jump through hoops needlessly and are very argumentative when you show them the law. Shame. By the way...I had lost my registration for my car and was in the process of renewing my registration so I didn't have it as secondary proof handy and I wasn't going to stand in line at the DMV just to get a copy when they would send me my new one a couple weeks later. Nope. I rather deal with the competent FFL guys down the street. My history: Gun collector of 50 years with over 350 purchases over a lifetime. I was an FFL myself and I am very familiar with the laws. Most gun buyers will assume their FFL knows the laws. Fact: Not all ffl's understand things they read and need it explained to them. We're all human. But when they get arrogant, loud and insistent by refusing to acknowledge they misread their own DOJ documents in front of them....that's just a ignorance and incompetence. These are guys I would think should not be doing their own Taxes let alone filling out gun transfers.
