I had a two hour lesson with Coach Don and…read moreI'm really pleased with the amount of education and hands-on instruction I received in such a short amount of time. We spent the first hour of the lesson on classroom instruction. I learned the history of the most common hand guns used, why someone would prefer one type over another, the differences between single and double action, and how different handguns suit different individuals. Don made sure I felt confident handling the different types. By the time we entered the firing range, I had learned proper stance, range etiquette, how to load a magazine, and the importance of proper technique when racking the slide. But the most unexpected thing I learned was that my nervous system (as a first time shooter) would be taxed. He explained that my first shot would likely be my best shot because once I knew what to expect I would begin to anticipate and I would have a bit of a "fight or flight" response. I never would've expected that and so when it happened, I was well prepared. Even though most people know to expect the sound and the kickback of a weapon, you're not really prepared for it if you've never done it before. Sure enough, my hands got shaky, my breathing got shallow my heart rate raised, but he coached me on how to relax and breathe through it. I was pretty proud of how well I did and I really look forward to my next lesson!

If it were possible to leave 10 stars I would. I have been searching for a particular gun since…read more2018 when they first came out and were legal in CA. Today I called this business for the first time, and I am simply blown away (no pun intended). This is a "one man show" business (like mine is), and Courtland (the owner) wears all hats. Of course you must make an appointment (like most other gun stores since the China virus arrived), but I would imagine this is Courtland's regular policy, as is THE only guy. Although I have not yet purchased from him, this will be my exclusive gun shop from now until if or when I leave CA. As you speak with Courtland you immediately recognize that he is extremely knowledgeable (as you might hope since he IS the store owner), and he seems to be an extraordinarily straight shooter. If he had what I was looking for I would be there now to purchase it. But like so many other gun stores, his inventory is quite limited at the moment. However, Courtland is happy to try to locate the gun you are looking for with his 4 distributors, plus other websites like GunBroker.com, and he will notify you and order the gun the next day upon arrival. The majority of Courtland's customers seem to be in law enforcement, but he also sells to non-professionals (by appointment). When I asked him about the best personal carry semi-auto pistol he would recommend, he told me his first choice. However, when I NEXT mentioned that I MAY relocate to Arizona, he switched his recommendation to a different gun due to the fact that it could also receive a much larger magazine as compared to CA. He is also going to call all 4 of his distributors, and if they don't have one they will order it notify him once received. WOW! I have been looking for this particular gun for over 3 years, and have called numerous other stores, and this is the ONLY dealer who not only gives you the time of day, but in fact WORKS for you to help you to find what you are looking for. At this point I am happy reminded of what a similar store might look like back in Mayberry in 1966. I would imagine that this is the type of service I MIGHT expect, but never in these times! This is now the ONLY gun store I will do business with as long as I stay in CA! THANK YOU COURTLAND, AND GOD BLESS YOU!!!

I had been quoted a price for the action over the phone prior to my visit and the price was the same. This is very good-to find a business with the integrity, know how and desire to help the costumer with their needs. There was a large amount of firearms, equipment, ammunition and other shooting needs available. I have found a new gun store I can do business with, no need to go anywhere else. The last three times I've been here I've had horrible customer service. One of the male employees had a bad attitude with me on two different occasions. He was snarky, rude and had a smarty pants attitude. Like bro... stay home if you're mad at the world and get out of the customer service / retail job field. The selection here is decent. The value is fair. The store is big and clean. But the service is horrendous. Last week my wife wanted to make a large purchase and she just walked out. No one seemed to want to take care of her. Dicks lost a big sale. She went to another mall instead. By the looks of other reviews it looks like customer service is not their forte... What a shame! Thousand Oaks really does need a nice sporting goods store.

The second was a pre-war Walther PPK That was in very good condition, with a crown marking. The (seemingly), very nice guy that looked at my guns told me that sadly, the Walther also wasn't worth much, and was unfortunately a very common gun. He offered to purchase the gun from me for $500. I told him I'd have to think about it and left. Note: I'm an older woman who knows little about guns. Trusting him, I told him as much. Back home, after having done some research, I pretty much knew the gun was worth more. Asking around, I found a more reputable out of state auction house in Illinois, and consigned the gun to them. The gun sold in February for $3800. Avoid this business. Attempting to scam women...or anyone..... is a pretty awful way to conduct yourself.
