Jason came out to fix the central air heater on Saturday, January 31, 2026. My call to Bruce Mechanical was deemed an emergency due to an expected drop in temperature to 26 degrees. (Regular work days are M-F). This was a follow up second visit a few days earlier. I was not charged for a second visit. They overcharged me.I got 3 other bids for these footage of my home and the price was less than 1/2 of what they got out of me .this owner chooses tomrespond with a post about 23 man hours .?? That's Halarious because I was there he wasn't it was 4- maybe 5 hours of work and 2 men . Sorry that everyone doesn't have 6 figure salaries to pay their fees but I was not informed of the original bid and this owner claimed to have a contract that the me being the owner NEVER signed. Having finally been able to install the unit YES 3 years later I was informed by 3 havac companies that came to look at the work that was done and informed me they company that put the vents in should have put the return air on for the amount I was charged .also if this person claims to have put the dryer vent in them why did I pay some one else 2 hours of work to install my dryer vent?? From start to finish, everything went smoothly with the install of a new Heat Pump/Mini Split heating and cooling system to replace an old and failing propane furnace in my fixer-upper house. Everyone I interacted with at Bruce Mechanical was professional, punctual, and patient with my many questions. Gary helped me find an option for the wall cassettes that blended well with the style of my cabin home, and the crew did a great job of making the final result look nice. I'm amazed at how quietly and efficiently the system heats or cools each zone, and the pricing was competative and very fair considering how outstanding the workmanship of the install was. I was given an appointment for a survey of my house, the appointment was later moved and finally canceled. Reason was that they were suddenly too busy to take any new job. It sounded like an excuse and was a waste of time for me as I lost 10 days on my gutter project. Unprofessional. read more

I have written 3 reviews in 5 years. One to complain and one to praise. I feel compelled to praise Bruce Mechanical. It's so nice when you find a business that is fair, honest, and nice to work with. I had a small job for a sheet of copper to shape. They gave me a fair price, some good advice, and they're pleasant to work with. There's quite a few employees and they all seem to enjoy each other. We were referred to this company by another contractor that we have used & trusted for years. We just purchased a large home that needed 3 new gas furnaces plus some new duct work & also new gutters.(who knew they did gutters too!) Called & spoke with Brent with estimates. He was so courteous & professional, on time & all around easy to get along with. This turned out to be the case with everyone on the job with them. Our bid came in just a tad lower than the other 2 bids we had gotten which was great. One bid for the gutters we turned down & Brett offered to re-bid & they came out much lower than the other gutter company. $300 to be exact. They came out to get working on the job site that week and 2 days later work is done! Can't get over how professional everyone has been & just an all around pleasure to do business with. We looked at reviews for furnace installers and picked 3 to submit bids. We chose Bruce Mechanical and we're glad we did. They were courteous and professional and they were within the submitted bid price. The job took all day but they stayed late to finish it that night. Just got a new central heating and air-conditioning system installed - these guys were absolutely A+ from start to finish. Their quote was very competitive and they were very honest about what I needed and didn't need (the other major HVAC companies in Santa Cruz sent out cheesy salesman that pushed hard to upsell me on units that I later found out were for houses 2 to 3 times the size of mine). Once the project started everyone I dealt with was professional and easy to talk too - due to some non-standard architecture it was a very tough job and all of Bruce's workers completed it with ease and sincere care for a quality job. Every single person that I worked with, from the estimator, to the supervisor, the installers, and even billing/accounting were professional, courteous, and on top of every aspect of their job. We're doing a complete house remodel with a fantastic contractor, so when he recommended Bruce Mechanical for our forced air unit, copper gutters and all our flashings, we took his recommendation. The quote from Bruce was very competitive and their work was excellent. I was impressed with every one of the men who worked on this job. All facets of the job were coordinated so the work flowed quickly and smoothly without interruption. They made a couple of suggestions to the layout of the heating unit making it even more efficient. We bought a new house in the middle of a cold snap, only to find out we weren't able to use the heater at all- it was old and rotted and no longer connected under the house. I wrote a very positive review of Bruce Mechanical Inc back on 10/11/2014, only now I noticed I failed to select the "star" ratings. As results, my review was marked "not recommended". Below I copy my original review and apologize for my initial omission. I needed a new chimney chase top and a storm collar replaced on my house in Scotts Valley. Originally, I contacted two Santa Cruz companies based on recommendation from the chimney sweep. The first asked greatly overblown price for the job, the second never sent me a job estimate, (after their technician came and checked the size of chimney). Fortunately, my neighbor recommended Bruce Mechanical. Brent, the company technician, came the second day to measure the chimney. He was very helpful, explained to me what and how they will do the job. The proposal was emailed to me the next day as he promised. Moreover, the price for the job was very reasonable and close to what I guessed would be a fair amount. I was leaving the area the next week. Brent said they could do the job during my absence, if they have a few hours window between some other bigger projects. On my return, one week later, there was a new chimney top perfectly installed. From the start to the end there was an extremely professional conduct on the part of Bruce Mechanical and I am glad I found such a good company. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Bruce Mechanical to anyone who needs any job - be it a simple sheet metal work, or a larger one on heating and/or air A/C - to be done in the house. read more
