Well we finally did it! Went from Central heat and air conditioning to the split system. I was concerned that it would not be as efficient and quiet. Oh my gosh was I totally wrong. This system is so great! Cools the house down so fast and individual areas. I thought the big box things inside would bug me but to be totally honest I don't even paid attention to them! Initially a little scheduling mixup but was easily resolved. I believe it was Juan Carlos that came and did the project and he went above and beyond to handle some issues on the completion of the job. Even doing some unplanned carpentry which isn't the norm but we were so lucky to have someone as skilled as we did. This company installed all of our hvac and acs. We have two hvacs and two ac units. We were generally happy with the work. Fast forward I'm asking them to come out to service the units and they changed ownership. And now to come to my location they not only charge over $100 more an hour than their other jobs they ALSO charge a travel fee. So the people who know my system best are now price gauging their own loyal customers if they live in certain areas. I suggested they just don't accept new clients in those areas or just charge the travel fee. They said take it or leave it. So beware Scott's Valley and Santa Cruz Mtn customers. read more

Last year we were looking for a central heat pump installation in our home. My brother-in-law does HVAC installations in the midwest and he interviewed several companies here by phone. After talking with Katrina at length, his opinion was that Ed Bogner Mechanical was head and shoulders above the others he talked to; his opinion was valuable to me and spot on. They are unique in several ways. First of all, they stick by their commitments and refuse to take on more work than they can confidently deliver. In my case, they told me they couldn't come out to give a quote for about 6 weeks, which I accepted and an appointment was made. Jessie was here exactly on that date and time (same with the installation start and finish timing). Second, everyone we worked with there was top notch, very professional, friendly and open to explaining and working with me. They do high quality work and are proud of it. They took extra efforts in routing wires and components neatly and worked us to find the best route for new ducting. These guys care. Finally, they finished on time and budget; there were no charges and no add-ons to the price we agreed to up front (but no changes from us to original specs). After the work was done,I had a few things that needed tweaking, and Dave was able to come out quickly to get the critical issues corrected quickly and scheduled the small things later. Big fat FIVE STAR for these guys! I cannot express enough how much I love Ed Bogner Mechanical. I bought my home last Summer and pretty early on I realized how hot it got in the house. After doing some research I found Ed Bogner and got a mini-split air conditioning unit installed upstairs. They worked for two days in the hot attic and got it done. It was a life saver, and so far, one of the best investments I made on the property. Fast forward to my first Winter in the home and I find out that not only is my heater as old as the house (~25 years), but it works about how you'd expect it to for it's age. I needed it replaced, so of course I called up my local Ed Bogner Mechanical. It was good to see one of the same guys from their last visit, Jesse, come by for the inspection. He gave me a detailed explanation and a reasonable price, all while being extremely friendly. About a week after Jesse's visit, another familiar face, Jett, came by to replace the whole heating system solo in just one day. Not just that but also a Nest thermostat. Ed and his crew installed a new furnace for my home in 2009. The bid was thorough and professional. Because I was without heat, Ed squeezed us in earlier into his schedule. I liked everyone on his crew, and they all did their best to make the job everything I asked for (but as with all contractors, be careful to ask how much a change costs when you ask for one...) The furnace works far better than the old one and has made our house an even nicer place to live. Update 2014: I continue to appreciate Ed Bogner Mechanical: There were minor problems with the thermostat, and it got replaced under warranty. Good business, standing behind their product. read more

Earlier in the summer I spoke to a woman about a sheet metal cap for my furnace chimney as it leaks. I was told they were busy, but would get to me before the rainy season. I should call back. Over the last several months, I called on multiple occasions and left multiple messages, no return call. It's now 11/29 and rainy season is here. Very disappointing service. Ed Bogner Mechanical was recommended to me by a friend of mine. I live in San Jose, and that was fine with them. I was dying in my house last September as temperatures were over 100 and I just purchased my house so I needed someone fast that was not going to overcharge. I got my bid from Ed and he checked out my house and recommended the best unobtrusive spot to put the air conditioner that was totally different from where I thought it should go. After that, he talked to my electricians to make sure everything was done right. Install was done when I wasn't home and everything was perfect! He was so good at providing all my options. On the plus side, they were able to quickly diagnose the problem with our heater. On the downside, they didn't have the part to fix it on the truck, although they stock them at their warehouse so they are clearly commonly needed. so they had to come out a second time to install the part which doubled our labor charge. also, scheduling that second service required calling them several times, and they never returned my call -- i just had to keep calling them until i got a hold of them. the part was installed on the second visit but invoicing shows up in the mail several weeks later, so any memory of what the tech said the part would cost or how long he spent fixing is fuzzy. in both cases, the charges seemed a bit bloated. happy to have the heater working again, but wish it was closer to the amount they had estimated originally (half). read more

We had Ed Bogner install our air conditioning several years ago. At that time, he installed it and left us with a small booklet on how to program the control panel. No one-on-one instructions on maintenance, no recommendations for servicing, nothing. About a month ago, the unit stopped working. We called, they sent a technician out. He diagnosed that a motor ($650 approx total repair $1000+) was broken, and would have to be replaced. They didn't have it in stock and had to order it. 3 weeks later the air conditioner finally got fixed. While the tech was here, he put the old filter back in. I wasn't here so once again, no instructions, service recommendations etc. About a week later, we noticed bubbles under the paint of the ceiling in the room under the unit. Turned out that the tech put back in a dirty filter and as a result, dirt clogged the drain from the unit and caused water to run out and down into the ceiling. I called, and was told they would call me back. 3 days later I got a call that they couldn't put in a claim because their insurance company said it wasn't their fault and that I should call my own insurance company. I asked to speak to their insurance guy and was left his name and number on a voicemail 4 days after that. The insurance guy said he couldn't process the claim, because Ed Bogner told him not to. That same day, half of the ceiling collapsed onto a bed and the floor in the room. Thankfully, no one was hurt. yesterday, Ed Bogner finally called me to tell me there was no way he was going to file a claim because he wasn't liable. When I told him about the filter, he hung up on me. We now have to remove the rest of the ceiling, 3 of the four walls, the room has to be cleaned for asbestos and it will take a month to make the room habitable again. We've lost paintings by the kids, craft jewelry, paintings done by my wife etc. If you've had work done by this shyster, make sure you have it checked out by a third party. Call him and make sure you get documentation and instructions on everything and pray you never have to call him if anything goes wrong. So much for using local labor. read more
