Sun Air put in a proposal for an HVAC system we needed geared toward air quality due to severe allergies and asthma. We received quotes from 3 businesses, and all were professional and pleasant to work with during the proposal steps. As a potential customer (and former engineer) I knew what we needed was not the easiest simplest job and I had many questions and details to work out both during the proposal period and planning the system. Throughout this process Peter stayed responsive, friendly and rose to the challenge of finding the ideal solution for our home. Among the 3 proposals, Sun Air had the best solution and value and they also provided a 5 year parts and labor warranty vs 2 year from others (not including the manufacturers' warranties). Peter also made sure we knew that from start to finish he would be personally be working on the job and making sure it was done right - not sending inexperienced technicians to complete any portions of the job unsupervised. The trade off for this diligence is that the work took a bit longer than it may have otherwise - but it was more important to us that it was done correctly with quality workmanship than as quickly as possible. Peter and his team didn't just install a standard HVAC, they designed and configured a complex system to meet all our needs which included: controlling indoor humidity to our specifications (below 50%) to reduce dust mites and mold, fresh air ventilation through the best air filtration available (to avoid having to open windows for ventilation when there is high pollen counts or poor air quality outdoors), and a zoned heat pump system to keep our small home office comfortable - all while remaining as quiet as possible. If anyone in your household has health-impacting allergies or if you have musty smells in your house that signify mold, I highly recommend researching the benefits of a ventilating dehumidifier for our coastal temperature climate. Air conditioning or heat pumps can dehumidify when conditions are hot and humid but when it's temperate most of the year and high relative humidity, they cannot lower humidity at all, can even increase it when cooling load is low, and a temperate climate with high humidity is the perfect environment for mold and dust mites to grow in a house. The solution was a fully variable speed Bryant Evolution heat pump with 2 zones, a ventilating Aprilaire dehumidifier, and a Lennox healthy Climate whole house air purifier (with UV light and MERV 16) along with the ductwork to tie it all together including 4 total returns (with pre-filters on them to keep ducts and system clean) to ensure balanced airflow. In this system, the dehumidifier controls a damper to bring in fresh air from outside on an hourly schedule through the dehumidifier (which automatically dehumidifies the incoming air as needed) the air then passes through the whole house air purifier and the heat pump air handler to heat or cool if necessary and circulate the air evenly in all rooms. The dehumidifier also operates as a regular dehumidifier ie it activates when indoor humidity rises above its set point and turns on the air handler to circulate the air around the house whether or not fresh air ventilation is active. The whole house air purifier is "hospital grade" to remove both particulate matter including pollen, mold spores and pm2.5 smoke particles as well as using activated charcoal to remove VOCs from vehicle exhaust and wood fire pollution. The zoned system controls the temperature for the home office separately, for efficiency and comfort - the computers generate a lot of heat in a small room. It's my understanding that this approach of using ventilating dehumidifiers is still not very common in residential applications, and the manufacturers focus mainly on heat pump dehumidification for hot/humid climates and dehumidifiers on basements and crawl spaces, so Peter at Sun Air did a lot of work researching and troubleshooting to get the equipment to operate perfectly together. He added a WiFi module to control the dehumidifier basic settings directly from an app since Bryant doesn't allow for control of a dehumidifier through the required thermostat. He and his assistant also returned to install an addition to the ductwork necessary to fine tune the zoning and balance the airflow after we tested the system for a while. Finally, Peter and his team were careful of our home and pets during the work, minimizing mess, disruption, and leaving things clean at the end of each work day. He communicated clearly at each step of the process and guided us through various design and configuration decisions. Pete came to the house for an estimate and explained the process of installation. We decided to go with Fujitsu. He then ordered the units and we set a date to start the installation. Three of the rooms had mini split cassettes installed in the ceiling. The other two bedrooms had mini split wall units installed. Pete & his team were easy to work with over the one and a half weeks' work. Pete even did some electrical work for my brother while he and his team were there. Solar system upgrade: SunAir did an excellent job installing a new solar system for me. The previous system I had was solar shingles, which at nearly twenty years old, were starting to buckle and fail, and my even older electrical panel needed to be upgraded as well. Peter met with me to discuss the job, and when I mentioned that I was looking for a good roofer to redo the roof prior to the solar install, he recommended two highly-rated local companies. As we finalized the contract, he went out of his way to save me money without any reduction in quality by making sure we met the deadline for keeping the solar system under PG&E's NEM 2.0 rates. In scheduling the job, he coordinated with the roofer so that the solar install began as soon as the new roof was on. He and his crew were careful with my garden, kept the worksite tidy, and left it neatly organized at the end of each day. They let me know at the end of each workday what time they expected to return, and they showed up when they said they would. His communication was clear and timely throughout the process. His knowledge guided me through the various bureaucratic hoops that PG&E required, and he made sure I had the appropriate documentation to get rebates and tax credits for the work he did. All in all, a top quality experience. House rewired with a main electrical panel and two sub panels and two EV car chargers: My home is nearly 80 years old, and the electrical system was long overdue for an overhaul. SunAir did a thorough job of reviewing the existing electrical wiring and making recommendations to bring it up to code, making it safe and more than adequate for my needs. Peter was communicative throughout the entire process, explaining what he planned to do and why, ensuring that I understood the pros and cons of various options. For instance, he explained clearly why it would be unsafe to install the EV charging station where I initially wanted to put it, and suggested an alternative location that, although slightly less convenient, was the right choice. After the job was completed, I acquired an electric stove and when my partner went to install it, we discovered that the 3-prong plug that came with it was incompatible with the more modern (and safer) 4-prong style that Peter had installed. Peter and his company Sun Air went above and beyond what was needed for our unique project where I wanted the house to become completely zero emission using the installed solar panels and battery storage. For that we needed to replace a propane fired furnace and a propane fired water heater. Both are expensive to use and heavily poluting to the environment. We wanted to convert to a Heat Pump HVAC and a Hybrid Heat Pump Water Heater. Peter was one of seven local/regional contractors that I approached for a bid on the project. Peter's knowledge, innovative/collaborative approach and value for money made me decide to choose Sun Air. In addition, Peter does not try to sell you a system that overqualifies; he rather understands what the customer wants and needs. In realizing the project Peter and Sun Air did an amazing job considering the many challenges during COVID-19 times. His work was delivered on time, in close collaboration with the permitting division at the County as well as with the contractor who upgraded the panel. In addition, the space for the new water heater and airhandler in the basement as well as the heat pump outside where left behind as if it was a completely new home. After three months of use during cold winter days (2020/2021), the system has performed excellent. In fact, already the electricity usage compared to the propane cost has gone down dramatically while becoming zero emission at the same time. According to my calculations the entire zero emission system will pay for itself in 5-7 years. In addition to his excellent work Peter is also a great guy to work with. I ended up going with Peter at Sun Air, because he was the only one to be in constant communication with me. One was very pricey, the other still hasn't given me a quote... Everytime I had a question I'd text Peter and he would get back to me quickly. Once I text him late on a weekend thinking he would get back to me the next day...but 15 min later I had a full explanation/answer to my question. Price was better than my other quotes, and within my expectations. But the sign of a good contractor is one who stands behind their work. There was a minor issue with the vents and the tape not sticking, and he fixed it immediately. He also did more than I asked him to. He had to install all duct work under the house, and he installed a light switch and a power outlet under my house in the crawl space. So now if I ever need to go down there I have a light, and I can plug something in if needed. 5 Stars all the way. A new AC /Heater Furnace and ducts was replaced on an old Townhome. The furnace must have been more than 20 years and it does warrant a replacement. The initial work was done back on the first week of July and I had to wait for some really hot days to really test how efficient and comforting the new AC is. It's August 15th and we're getting hit with some 100'degrees as we speak. So here it goes.... Peter and Adrian are magnificent from the get go.
