Sesame Ginger Gyoza
Erin Y.

This was definitely a good place to stop by for happy hour ! We didn't order anything off the regular menu just a couple of apps to share over happy hour - which we did enjoy ! Sesame Ginger Gyoza - these were lightly pan fried and the sauce was super yummy Spicy Tuna Roll - definitely tasted better than it looked but they weren't anything special Spicy Fried Chicken & Pickles - ordered this due to my love for fried pickles and the breading on both the chicken and pickles were so good ! Highly recommend ordering these !

Butcher's Block Burger - tasty burger, although not the biggest portion size (July 2023)

This location seems fairly new and is conveniently located across from the Real Canadian Superstore. The restaurant was clean and modern-looking, and the service was great. I got the Butcher's Block Burger and it was quite tasty. The accompanying fries were great as well. Mind you, the portions aren't big and the burger wasn't that cheap, but I think it's pretty standard for these sorts of chain restaurants. I would say it's pretty comparable to Cactus Club/Earl's/Joey's in terms of atmosphere, portion size, and price. I would recommend this location if you're in the area shopping and want to grab something to eat in a pleasant atmosphere.

Chicken strip and fries (kids meal, $11)

I stopped by for a birthday celebration and was surprised at their menu offerings. I had been underwhelmed at the food on my previous visits and did not realize they had a brunch menu. I ordered the soup, salad and garlic toast option with a glass of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. Food took awhile to arrive. I did enjoy the Thai chicken soup and cowboy salad. It was a light lunch meal. The soup was filling with the rice. Plus, I love the coconut aromatic flavour. The salad was a nice mix of greens, feta, tomato, beans, and shredded carrot. The garlic toast was average. Freshly squeezed juice was really good. Service was on the slow side. We were seated in the patio section and our server only checked up a few times to clear plates and refill water. We had to wave her down to pay our bill.

Oh, thank gosh, there is a Browns in the area! We were so hungry, we wanted to stop by for some happys but we went in an hour too early. We were seated right away as it was a bit slow. Our server was great and brought food over at a reasonable time. Everything was clean and tidy. All of the servers were wearing masks. We ordered some yam fries, dry ribs, and waffles. The waffles were decent, but nothing to wow. It was good with the blueberry sauce but not as chewy as I'd like it to be. Nonetheless, it was enough flavour for my tastebuds at the time of need. I usually order yam fries whenever I go to Browns so I did it again this visit, however, this yam fries batch was slightly undercooked. It was hard to chew and very little salt was sprinkled. The sauce was amazing, though. I can give it another try next time.

For the last 1/4 of 2020, we didn't really dine in much at restaurants. We did, however, get in one last dine-in experience before the end of the year. We came here to Browns during their 'Social Hour.' Fiancé and I shared Spicy Fried Chicken & Pickles and Parmesan Garlic Fries for food, and I ordered the Browns Sangria for my drink. The food was delicious and you can't go wrong with Happy Hour prices. As for the dine-in, the restaurant had plexiglass that divided all the tables and booths, and the servers were wearing masks. So overall, it felt completely safe!

Ahi tuna crunch

This was a new browns that pop up in the schoolhouse area, so I decided to check it out with my friend before a movie. The building had a really nice patio area and had the same browns vibe as the other restaurants do. Their menu was exactly the same as the other chains as well. It was a clean and nice looking restaurant, which is typical of browns. I have always been a fan of their cod and rice bowl, but decided to try the ahi tuna crunch salad this time. The salad was fresh and it was delicious. It had more Asian inspired ingredients, which Complimented the salad well and it tasted great. The only thing I didn't like about the salad was the tuna itself. It was very bland and plain. The customer service was fine as well. No major shoutouts but the waiter was polite and friendly. Overall, I wanted to see if this particular branch was any different and it wasn't. It's just like any other browns so if you like those style of restaurants, you'll have no issues with it.

The seating area is actually not as large as it looks from the outside. Fortunately there is a covered (but not enclosed or heated) N facing patio, protected from the street by a pile of shrubbery. Staff are friendly and cheerful. No complaints. The beer pricing is in line with other similar establishments. Somewhat decent selection as well. I didn't try the food this time, but it looked pretty decent as well. Will try next time.

They have a fairly large menu and after a quick review, I opted to stay with the John B burger and fries. It is a substantial burger with bacon, cheese and mushrooms. The taste and presentation of the burger was ok. I had a few of the fries then passed them on to another in our group. They were also just ok. There was no burger and beer special this day and our server advised there are no specials on Fridays. I was there to catch up with friends and the John B did provide this. There was no issue with the service but the food was nothing of note and with so many other dining options close by, I have no plans to return.

Apparently it becomes a dance floor where we were seated and that was the calm before the storm. Husband's burger was burnt, so we appreciated that our server took it away and comped us a new one. Kids seemed to enjoy their food. Place is noisy with sports games on the TVs. Parking is a little challenging in the underground lot but I liked that it was free. Four of them were perfectly cool, but this one guy was being incredibly rude and told me to get out. All I said in response was, "Calm down," with a smile on my face. I then asked his friends what the issue was, and they explained that they had paid for the table. I apologized and prepared to head out, but before I could leave, the guy became extremely rude again. I repeated, "Calm down," and that is when he pulled a knife on me. When he saw that I wasn't threatened by the knife, he went and reported me to security. Then, the security guards had the absolute audacity to tell me that I had to leave because I was the one with a knife, claiming it was caught on camera. I told them straight up: search me right now and show me the video. They refused to do either. Sure, okay. Scrapping my personal experience entirely, if I were to ever go here again, I now know for a fact that there are groups of intoxicated people carrying knives or weapons inside this venue, even after security claims they search people at the door. Ridiculous.

Aside from the time warp location, the food is easily 4*s, and honestly, I'd say it's better than White Spot as a comparable. The clubhouse sandwich contained actual turkey breast, not the deli turkey breast slices a lot of places use. That's an easy win right there. Very reasonable pricing to boot! It's basically a sports bar/pub grub menu set up. Pool tables as well. Lighting is on the darker side, with friendly and courteous service. They chat with you since they're curious as to how you know about the place. It's definitely not on too many peoples' radar for sure. They seem to like their hockey, as there are a couple of jerseys hanging. Guy Lafleur, Paul Henderson's autographed jersey from the Summit Series 1972, and a couple of others. Located in the basement of the Lougheed Village Mall, which is literally the Land that Time Forgot. I'm not exaggerating. Come and have a look for yourself. Free validated parking if you eat here. Recommend that you go for a stroll in the upper and lower levels and the courtyard whilst you're here. Maybe come in the evening during Halloween. You won't need to spook yourself out at a graveyard. This mall will suffice you plenty.

Wings are $2 more ($12.99) - I should have taken a pic or two of the menu to get all of the differences. Obviously, you're supplementing cost with your DD fees when you order delivery. The fellow behind the bar was super-friendly. He was working solo (dropped in there about 1:30pm on a Wed - not exactly "happy hour") :). I ordered two pints of their near-hazy pale ale, wings and potato skins and it came to $45. Not horrible, but the wings were the smallest size that Sysco sells (think pigeon) and the potato skins were tiny as well. Shrunken that the fillings didn't fill the skin. Repeat? Nope. Though, hate to say that as I found the bartender quite personable. There were a few regulars at the bar when I dropped in. Hoping this place sees a lot more activity on regular pub nights. Suggestions: get the medium-sized chicken wings (not the ginormous "turkey-sized wings"!) and make certain that the potato skins at least get alll of the potato back into them before you add the topings. :)
