Been awhile since we has been there. Buffet was really good. Friendly staff, never had to ask for a drink refill. Was fairly quiet in there, did get busy after awhile. You walk in pay for your buffet , and sit where you like . Real casual dining experience. The only negative thing i experienced was the dessertb, they were out of both cobblers for a little bit , didnt want to wait l,so tried a piece of each of the cakes they had in bowls. Chocolate Cake wasn't bad, butbwhat i believe to pineapple cake or something was very dry no flavor. I dont go to buffets for the deserts, so..the chicken an the rest of the food made up for the issue. Three of us came here for an early dinner and were seated promptly. This was a small buffet dinner and had a salad bar, meats and veggies to choose from. The desserts were on a table in the back and were pre cut so I imagine they were dried out. I found an empty pan where there was supposed to have been a hot cobbler but it was not filled while we were there. The waitress was friendly and attentive. When I went up the first time there was no shrimp and I was very disappointed. I tried the fried chicken but it wasn't that good. The veggies I tried were good. Some were fresh and some were not. The second time I went up there was shrimp so I felt a lot better about the dinner. The shrimp were done well and the sauce I found was good. The atmosphere is homey/country and nothing fancy. I only saw tables but there was another room that I didn't go in so it might have had some other kind of seating. It's as expensive as the larger buffet's , even with a senior discount, which was a surprise. Tea is an extra charge, so I can't comment on that. Pre-pandemic Brown's would offer up their delicious fried chicken with whole breasts. Nowadays though they're being cheap and slicing 'em in half before frying, which also means they turn out super dry. That's really the only downside. We went for breakfast buffet. Half food was empty or old saturated. French toast smashed thin and ice cold. Which seemed to be a theme alot of food was cold !!! . 3/4 food was cold or out . For the two stars the food was good. Everything fried and I do mean everything. If you want a fat laden, artery clogging experience, this is the place. Ambience is 0. Holes in the ceiling. Everything seems cheap except the price. Country also means baked chicken, dumplings, corn on the cob, country baked ham, biscuits, cream gravy, etc. They did have pork chops that were good but also breaded and fried. I was on a work trip and needed to find something fast that wasn't "fast food" when I decided to stop. It's very quaint hometown style place that was full of locals. The food was extremely fresh as the turn out was constant. I wasn't able to grab many pictures because the line was full mostly. Got there around 2:45pm, not much food to offer. Asked if there would be more fried chicken put out. Waitress said in 3-5 minutes. An hour goes by, still no more chicken. Noticed about 3-5 employees would come and glance at the buffet. All Hispanic. No English speaking. They did bring out fried fish, hamburger steak with gravy, and bread, but No Fried Chicken! We paid $35 for nothing much to choose from. We left but not without expressing our disappointment. We have been coming here off and on for many years. Went in today after reading some of the more positive reviews. Very disappointed. Maybe, 2:00 isn't a good time for them. Front person at register was very cold & unfriendly. Food had obviously been sitting there awhile. Chicken was dried out what few pieces there were, potatoes lukewarm. They finally brought out fresh fish after someone asked. Approximately 1.3 miles from San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park lies Brown's Country Buffet, which is easily located off HWY 441. Me and 6 of my buddies ate here after a grueling morning of mountain biking in the trails or what I call "Cardio Session". It was simply enough to develop hunger after riding. Brown's Country Buffet is a simple AYCE joint. You walk inside, prepay and once done, have a seat and get ready to get your eats on. It's country buffet yall, it's hard to turn down some good ol southern comfort food, especially since it is AYCE (all you can eat). My favorites here were definitely the fried pork chops and fried chicken, which was flying off the buffet trays. Good food, good service, friendly staff. This place immediately became our "post-MTB ride" place to go whenever we're in Alachua. Hoping to see you soon. read more

Brown's used to be one of our favorite places to go. Since it was sold (apparently about a year ago) the food is mediocre at best, there are never any black eyed peas, and all you hear is Spanish. Not a racist - I would just like to understand what is being said around me. They've even managed to crap up the fried chicken. Sad. read more

Avoid this place at all costs cost. This was of our favorite restaurants same we always stopped on our motorcycle rides. It was always packed and the food was fresh and great. We stopped there today at 12:15 and the parking lot was almost empty. There's usually a line out the door at this place. Something didn't seem right. They installed red heat lamps on the buffet so they didn't have to put fresh food out. The bathroom was out of order also. We had already paid so we ate there. On the way out I asked the someone why is it so slow. She whispered "New owners" It turns out a family from another country bought it the same kind of people that have bought all the motels and convince stores and ran them into the ground. Much against my request, my wife and I carried my 94 year old father in law out for b'fast at Browns this morning. After getting three senior discounts, and military discount we paid $41.00 for a poor excuse of a b'fast. Both the tater tots and hash browns were soaked in grease and inedible, The sausage patties, and links were covered in water I am assuming to keep them from drying out, and the coffee was like colored water. The biscuits and grits with sausage gravy was good. Two years ago and before, it was a wonderful place and I use to carry my 92 year old mom up for fresh cooked vegetables of all kinds, and some of the best fried chicken. Their pork chop night was always packed according to friends, with some of the friendliest waiters and waitresses. Had breakfast on a Saturday. Was not worth the price we had to pay on the way in. Eggs did not taste like real eggs, cheese grits were awful, all the meat on the buffet was dripping with grease. Will not waste my time or money on this place again. It used to be an Alachua staple for places to eat but times have changed. While the waitress was extremely kind, the food was very bland. I tried essentially all of the items they offered and I can say with certainty that is not how Southern style food should taste. The Mac n Cheese, fried chicken, mac salad, and mash potatoes were all weirdly super bland. The fried chicken was also very oily. There was also a waitress who kept staring at us, which made me a little uncomfortable (we are asian). The atmosphere was very American-style, so I did like that aspect. This place is the real deal if you're looking for comfort food. I worked near this restaurant for two years but never got the chance to stop in until recently. I was always surprised to see so many cars in the tiny plaza and the line of people waiting to get in for breakfast or lunch. We only tried the buffet on a Friday afternoon, which is the fried shrimp buffet night! The fried shrimp buffet also includes whole catfish, baked flounder, devil crab, BBQ pork ribs, and fried chicken. We were there before it started at 4 pm, but were given the option to eat the seafood for the seafood buffet price or skip the seafood for the standard lunch buffet price. I'm glad we chose to try the seafood because the ribs were delicious and so was the fried shrimp and devil crab. The fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese were also so good. We saved a little bit of room to have a few bites from the dessert bar and everything was so tasty. You do not have to do the buffet, as they also have a regular menu. Personally, I'm dying to try the chicken and dumplings because I've heard such good things about it, but they're only on the buffet on Wednesdays and select Sundays. We loved the food and portions, as well as the price. It's a little drive from Gainesville, but totally worth it! read more

I have been to this restaurant multiple times I enjoy the atmosphere. It is a small buffet with southern cooking. When you arrive you head for the counter to pay. You can get the buffet or order from a menu either way the food is good. once you are seated your waitress will come by to check on you and bring your drink. After that, it is pretty much a self-serve buffet. On this trip, I wanted to truly the breakfast. the buffet had many of the usual fixings eggs, pancakes, biscuits, and gravy as well as several meat choices. Along with canned fruit and pudding on the cold bar.s I can say for the price of the breakfast the choices are smaller than dinner. I would have liked to see some fresh fruit or danishes on the bar or even a cold cereal choice. For me canned fruit or banana pudding is not breakfasted food so was disappointed about that. However, the coffee was really good. Overall not a bad place my only reason for giving them a 4-star rating instead of 5 was the lack of fresh fruit or cold choices. The cooks, waitresses and staff are all great people who love and enjoy what they do and love their customers. We stop by when we are ever in town. I went there today and I relax and stay there is bit not eating much but enjoying the place. And, management has changed since Adrian sold the place now there are latin people who own and manage the place. The new manager is a shorter lady and she didn't know I spoke Spanish and was talking about me as I went to get some dessert, with one of her associates in Spanish. I didn't heed it no mind but she lost a customer. She has talked about others a number of times as I've been there in Spanish. Sad, as the people that work there are good and treat you right, also the food hasn't changed much because they have kept most of the workers, it is sad that one bad apple has to ruin it for the bunch. That will be the last time I go there. I can't keep listening to her talk about the non Spanish clients there thinking they have no idea what is being said about them. read more

Chicken , baked and fried, pulled pork ,fish , meatballs, southern sides like collard greens, baked and green beans, black eyed peas, Mac and cheese, taters and gravy, corn , rice , more. Salad bar, desert bar and priced very affordable for what you get! Do it yourself plates but servers were always there clearing plates, filling drinks. Anyone who knows anything about the city of Alachua knows that Brown's is the place to go for breakfast! They are famous for their buffets but you can't go wrong ordering off the menu if you'd prefer. Brown's is a popular spot and parking can be tight during peak meal times but it's worth it! My fiancé and I came for a late breakfast around 10AM. The place was full but not packed and there were a few parking spots available. We entered and were told to pick a seat. The service was prompt and good. I went over to check out the buffet, which looked yummy, but I opted to order off the menu. I chose a traditional breakfast with two eggs over easy, grits, country ham, and a biscuit. The food was delivered promptly and everything was cooked just as I'd asked. The biscuit was amazing...golden brown on the outside and tender on the inside! My fiancé's meal was also perfectly done (eggs over easy, corn-beef hash and home fries). We were in and out in less than 30 minutes and all at a very affordable price. As we exited I could see them setting up the lunch buffet....and I spotted a huge pan of BANANA PUDDING! I almost suggested we stay for lunch but we had to be on our way. Next time we'll try Brown's for lunch! By the way, I would have given 5 stars but they serve Hunts ketchup and had I ordered something needing ketchup that would have ruined it. I'm a Heinz girl! read more

I was so pleased to find a country buffet a little closer to Gainesville. Normally, my family makes the trek all the way to Lake City for Ole Times. So Brown's is much more convenient for everyone. The food is not as delicious as Ole Times, and the selection is much smaller. But, I take what I can get. It is fresh and the main staples of country cuisine can be taken advantage of. Don't come here for carry-out service, the buffet is where it's at. Lunch time on a weekday is pure entertainment, filled with locals and happy travelers. The fried pork chops are thin cut and crispy, great with hot sauce. The fried chicken is fresh, fulfilling, but of the non-crunchy variety. Chicken and Dumplins' is more dumplings than chicken, my favorite preparation. The dumplings are chewy and divine. The mac and cheese is partially processed cheese food, but it still decent. I steer clear of the canned okra and tomatoes. Other than that, everything else on the hot bar is fine. The sweet tea is perfect, served with lime instead of lemon. There are almost as many desserts as there are savory items; cake, coconut cream pie, custard, and multiple flavors of cobbler. I have yet to touch the salad bar. The complimentary bread basket is often by request only, unless you are a regular. And, the waitresses here are likely to give you some tuuude for asking. Don't let them hurt your feelings, it is more like tough love. You can have soft rolls (not tried yet), masa cornbread (creamier texture), or ultra-buttery biscuits. Friday night is the catfish and shrimp buffet for about $10.39. Bring your appetite, and check out the country fashions. Ya'll come get some fixin's, ya hear! read more
