Right off the bat, the service was incredible. Even with a party of 12, the food began arriving to our table in just about 10 minutes (and we ordered about 10 dishes). My favorites were the tom yum soup, the pork red curry (which is great over rice), and the dish with raw shrimp (I forget what it's called). Every dish was extremely flavorful and has a great amount of spice. Some of my friends were sweating. The desserts are also fantastic - fried ice cream, bua loy, strawberry cheesecake - everything was the perfect level of sweetness. Came in for lunch one afternoon on impulse. It was really good, I had the drunken noodles. The service was extremely attentive and the food was excellent. I noticed they were running a promotion for free spring roles if you get two entrees, which is pretty awesome. I don't know if it's just for lunch, but I think that's a pretty sweet deal to run right now to get people in the door. I always have a good experience here! What a fantastic spot! Food was absolutely divine! Was in area for a show, and there are quite a few places to choose for dinner but man did we get it right! Fresh summer rolls were lovingly made and delicious... the wraps were stuffed with fresh ingredients and steamed shrimp. Firstly, the soft shell crab in the pad Thai was amazing. However, the pad Thai itself was literally soaked in sauce to the point where I could not continue to finish eating after a bit of it. Not sure how this place has 4 stars, but the food lives up to its name, sugar seems to be added to every dish. Pad Thai was so sweet, it was like eating cotton candy. Fried rice, the curry, the soups, they were way too sweet and didn't seem like they were freshly made. The angel wings were also dry as the desert. Definitely old. I got the drunken noodle, and the vegetables and meat were cooked perfectly but the sauce was so spicy it was absolutely inedible. I don't know if this was an accident or something and maybe someone knocked too many pepper flakes or seeds in, but after one bite I couldn't eat anything else. I can handle spice, (or else I wouldn't have ordered drunken noodles) and I normally like things really spicy- but this was terrible. A true night ruiner. read more

I love how Thai restaurants are always so damn consistent! The food always comes out fast and service is always good too. I stick to my usual curry with rice. The main difference I see here from the other restaurants I have been to is the space. We haven't been here in years but my daughters remember this restaurant as one of their favorites even though I am quite sure they do not remember anything about it since they were quite young. Nevertheless, we spent the weekend in Boston and they begged to go. Both girls remember their favorite dishes and want me to relay to you their "expert" opinions. Pad si ew: My oldest daughter thought it was the best ever. I thought it was very good but a little too sweet. I like it better when the sugar has caramelized a bit more almost to the point of burning in spots. The bitterness combined with the sweetness is what I look for. I do appreciate that they offer Chinese broccoli which is mandatory in my opinion. Crab Rangoon: My youngest loves Crab Rangoon and thought this was awesome... I would have to agree. Not a very traditional dish but quite tasty nonetheless! Country Style Pad Thai: I got this dish and while it was not a very adventurous choice, it was very good! One of my favorite Thai places! Really yummy yellow curry. I'm usually not a fan of sweet dishes, but this is just the right amount, and not overwhelming at all. I love getting a bunch of different dishes and splitting with others family style. Don't come here if you're looking for a quiet time out, or a place for a private conversation. But if you are looking for a quick meal or good food, this might be a good option. We came for an early dinner and were the first party to be offered seats in the back beyond their archer statue. But mere minutes later, three additional parties were seated in the same area, with one at the table right beside us. Without any attempt at all, we were privy to their conversation about platonic friendships whenever we had a lapse in our own chat. We knew what we wanted right off and placed our order immediately. 6-7 minutes later, our food arrived! The veggie pad thai $10.95 consisted of two substantial pieces of each veggie, which was a goodly portion, however the noodles - no matter how tasty - were on the skimpy side. Once you allow for the space occupied by the raw beansprouts, it seemed the size of this dish was a tad light. The chicken pad see you $10.95 was a bit better portioned, however I was surprised to see that the broccoli on this dish was the western sort rather than the leafier Chinese broccoli cousin. Fortunately I am a fan of both. But the dish itself was a bit strong tasting, so we were glad we were sharing both. The thai iced tea $2.95 was tasty, and although they could not lessen the sugar since it was already pre-mixed, they were able to adjust the ice and dairy upon request. Credit cards accepted. This is hands down my favorite Thai restaurant in Boston. I used to come here 10+ years ago when I attend BU. Came back this weekend for the first time in a while and the food is just as amazing as I remembered! The restaurant is extremely spacious. The menu has a ton of traditional and specialty Thai dishes to choose from. My favorite dish is pretty basic - Pad Thai. This time I got the Soft Crab Pad Thai - it was amazing! Came here on a Friday night at 7PM and was told that it was a 2-hour wait. Seeing that there were only two-parties ahead of us, we're unsure of why we were given a 2-hour wait estimate. They don't take down phone numbers, so we stuck around the area. Within 30 minutes, we were seated. No stress, but the individual taking down names might need a refresher on how to come up with estimate wait times. For a party of 3, we ordered the Tom Yum Goong, yellow curry with tofu, Moo Grob Pad Ped -$15.95 (Crispy pork rind with Thai spices and herbs), and Yum Plar Dook Fu -$17.95 (Thai style crispy and puffy catfish meat on romaine lettuce, served with shredded mango, red onions, and lemongrass in spicy lime dressing). Service: Not great. Throughout the meal, I felt rushed as the wait staff kept coming to our table to clear one plate here and there. It was close to 8 by the time we were finishing up dinner and there was no longer a wait. I'm not sure why there seems to be a need to clear out our plates one by one. Food: Every place makes the tom yum goong differently. This place is definitely on the sweeter end and the soup was filled with different mushrooms and one shrimp. The yellow curry with tofu was delicious and paired perfectly with rice. (BTW: all entrees do not come with rice, so you'll have to order it on the side). The Moo Grob Pad Pad flavor was on point, definitely on the spicy end! The pork rind pieces were a bit touch in the beginning. Let it soak in the sauce longer and it'll tender up. I would not recommend ordering the Yum Plar Dook Fu. First of all, I was expecting to taste catfish in the crispy and puffy catfish meat as stated on the menu. However, when the dish arrived, it just felt like crispy panko on top of the salad. Sure, the dressing to the salad was tasteful. But where's the fish that we paid $17.95 for?! The food here is good. I would definitely come back and try their other dishes. (And secretly hope that wait times are closer to accurate estimates). read more

This actually happened one of our favorite thai place. It was a bug in the panang curry. We talked about our allergies and vegetarian diet when placing our order: We flagged down the waitress and quietly pointed out the problem. She apologized, and then came up with bunch of mushrooms and showed us that this was not a bug but some dirt from the mushrooms. She was convincing us to that level that they don't have bugs in the kitchen. We knew she was doing it under the false impression that we might actually accept it. Never mind , we gave up and she told us that she will get this curry replaced. So we waited for sometime. Surprising , curry doesn't show up and we get our check minus the curry charges. We inquire with the other waitress who just speaks nonsense that she has a big party and she can't deal with us. The amount of disrespect this restaurant shows to the customer is unimaginable. Then the owner shows up and apologize us and ask us that she will get the curry asap. We were at our boiling point and just left the restaurant because of the disgusting food and the behavior of their staff. Would give it a zero if I could. Waitress was rude. I'll have to admit that I'm partial to one I ordered that night which is below.... Choo Chee Fisherman (extra spicy) - The Choo Chee curry sauce was an awesome blend of spices! It was fuller in flavor and tasted slightly richer and sweeter than the Yellow Curry. Highly recommended even if you get this sauce with some other protein. We have searched all over NY, CT, and NJ for a Thai restaurant that comes close to Brown Sugar, but nowhere come close. This has been our favorite Thai restaurant for over 20 years. We stop by whenever we are in Boston. Every meal we have ever had here has been amazing. We absolutely love the pad Thai, lady in green, scallion, pancakes, and golden triangles. Brown Sugar never disappoints. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing and the smell is intoxicating. The service is always great. They even stayed open late so we could get lunch while traveling from New York through Boston to Maine. read more

This place is gorgeous inside (high ceilings, moody decor, dim lighting), and has low key upscale vibes, especially since my friend and I came here all sweaty from a nearby dance workshop and were surrounded by couples on Saturday date night. The menu is extensive (wowza!) with options for gourmet small plates or hefty comfort food. Given that I was quite ravenous from the workshop and was just looking for something to satisfy, I simply got a **Pad Thai Country Style** ($11.50). It was on the sweeter side which I wasn't a fan of (could've used more of that umami~), but thankfully there was kick to it, unlike some "spicy" dishes that have been toned down for the western palate. I enjoyed how they had a healthy heap of raw bean sprouts on the side though. It helped cut through the thicker sweeter sauce (meh.) I do think I would come back just to try some of the other items because the menu looks pretty good. But tbh Pad Thai is such a basic dish at a Thai restaurant that I am honestly underwhelmed by this experience. Could be just my fault though for ordering it. Oh well! For the price, I was pleasantly surprised by how much chicken and shrimp it came with. The flavors weren't too sweet or overpowering, and I enjoyed the crunch from the bean sprouts and peanuts it came with. Some entrées on the menu can get fairly pricey, but most of the specials are reasonable, especially considering the portion size. They only accept up to 2 cards per table and will not split checks, which is particularly inconvenient for students. The food itself is pretty good though. read more

Bear in mind I ordered pretty late (8:30 pm) and ordered through the restaurant directly. I ordered the chicken satay, pad see you, and spring rolls. The service was awesome, received food quickly. The chicken satay was amazing. Zero complaints, absolutely fantastic. Had the perfect grilled taste, and reheats super well (I bought a bit too much! There are 4 skewers per serving.) For all of the food, the portions were pretty good, so that's awesome. Spring rolls were okay and their sauce was good, but the meat was quite dry--did they use ground meat? I'm not a spring roll snob but the texture was strange. The pad see you was pretty tasteless--almost no sauce on there. I fried it with soy sauce in my own pan and it was fine. Next time I'll stick with just the chicken. read more
