These bagels are like crack. I don't know if they are made on-premises or not, but every bagel I've tried is amazing. I'm addicted to the Nova lox: Your choice of bagel with cream cheese, lox, tomatoes, onions and a few capers for good measure. The menu is a little unorganized, but the young high school and college kids behind the counter are super friendly and will help you find what you're looking for. I order, pay, wait in the tiny eating section and then go eat outside with my pup on the patio. The parking lot is always a zoo, but it usually clears up around lunchtime. read more

My family just moved to the area, and pass Brookside Bagels almost every day when we're out and about. The parking lot is always packed, so we figured something good must have been going on there. The other day I had a taken a day off from work and my wife and I stopped for breakfast after dropping our daughter off at school. Upon walking through the door you are greeted with all sorts of fantastic smells. Taking a look at the menu, they have a variety of bagels, spreads, sandwiches, and wraps. The employee behind the counter was polite, curious, and answered all of our questions. My wife ordered an everything bagel, and I snagged a ham, egg, and cheese on a hard roll. After a few minute wait we had our food and sat down to eat. Damn, it was good. Everything was fresh, tasty, and the prices where more than reasonable compared to the chain stores around the area. I can safely say we've found our new favorite breakfast spot. The place can get busy, so expect a wait in line. read more

Visited them for the first time today, in late morning. The good news: the bagel I bought tasted fresh, the sandwich I ordered to go was well made, and the service was friendly. The not-as-good news came in two categories: it seemed to take a long time to make my sandwich, given the number of kitchen workers; and the bill was a bit high - the sandwich, in particular, seemed expensive at something like $8.60, though I don't live around there and don't know what typical prices are like at nearby sandwich shops. This is an easy place to stop and grab a bite. The bagels are decent but they overpower them with too much cream cheese. I usually ask for the cream cheese on the side. The bagel sandwiches are good but I wish they were a little lower in price. The bagels aren't huge so you aren't getting as much food as a regular sandwich. A pleasant but busy atmosphere. read more

Don't order the "breakfast special". Eggs were basically raw, potatoes were old and soggy with fatty bacon piled on top, all in a cheap see through plastic container. Just Awful. Bagels are average. This is my breakfast spot of choice! This is a small operation, but it produces great food. Employees, in my experience, are cordial and remember you & your order after you come in a few times. My favorite is the cheddar bagel. I also love that their cream cheese is whipped! I've also had tuna salad on a bagel--delicious. Their salads are great too. I haven't had much else on the menu other than that, but as this is a bagel place, I can say that their bagels are way better than any chain bagel place you might go to. The service can sometimes be slow, so you want to be sure you have a few extra minutes if you're picking up breakfast on the go. read more

Pretty small place which is almost always busy that serves some pretty good bagels, breakfast sandwiches and a few lunch items. From my most recent experience, I'd have to recommend the cheddar cheese bagel as it is super soft and doughy with a very great cheddar flavor. Brookside bagel definitely provides a solid bagel/breakfast sandwich in a timely manner, for a reasonable price. The bagels were good, but I think I'm still going to default to Goldberg's in west hartford. I went on a Sunday morning and brookside was busy, but not packed. There were lots of bagels to choose from. I ended up trying two things: an egg and cheese on and everything bagel, and a cheddar bagel with scallion cream cheese. The bagels were chewy on the outside and soft on the inside. Unfortunately once I got back to my car I realized my egg and cheese was actually a sausage/egg/cheese. I'm currently pregnant and not eating sausage so rather than go back for another I just removed it. The cheddar bagel was good, lots of cheese...maybe too much combined with the cream cheese I ordered. I think the scallion cream cheese might have been my favorite part of the whole meal. They have quite a few different homemade cream cheeses which is a good selling point. They are tasty! The service was good and I like that they have a little seating area and coffee bar. read more

By far the best, freshest, lightest, bagels north of NYC! Old school restaurant for breakfast specials, grab your own juice and coffee (Green Mountain), and the home fries are to die for! Grab a "baker's dozen", get complimentary freezer bags, and enjoy them for the rest of the week with your home coffee brew. I haven't met anyone, ever, who didn't like Brookside Bagels. The bagels are the best I've had, probably ever. Egg sandwiches, cream cheese, whatever. It's all great. The wraps are equally as delicious (their chicken wraps are a little more expensive but gigantic, quality and worth every penny). It's a wonderful place to sit with with the Advocate and a cup of coffee. Wish they had lattes, but we can't have them all. I'll take my perfect bagel, thank you. read more

Good bagels, friendly staff, plenty of coffee and exceptionally fast service. The bagels are reasonably sized and priced accordingly. I don't need a bagel through size of my head for breakfast. I'm much happier paying $1.69 for a bagel with butter. Thank you! Tons of flavors including a fan favorite, cheddar, which is a little more but I thought worth the price. The bagels are perfectly textured and very fresh. I got an everything with scallion cream cheese. The "everything" toppings were a good mix and not too much of any individual flavor. Personally I might add a bit more coarse salt but still otherwise very good as is. Pricing is usual for a small bagel shop and they have "day olds" for a very good price off to the side. Keep in mind there's no preservatives so they will be solid within a few days. I picked some up in hopes of freezing them to preserve. The only slightly negative thing I have to say is the "process" of ordering is annoying. I have been here before where I get an untrusted bagel with cream cheese and had to wait about 10 minutes for everyone in front of me to complete their transaction.. This would be easily solved if they eliminate the line from order to paying. That way when you get your order, which they call your name for, you can go cash out and be on your way read more

Rolls shaped like a bagel 1.5 stars My Saturday morning started with a dozen bagels from Brookside. The store is really neat and their bagel offering looks pretty good. For that I give them 1 star. The bagels however were not so good. For starters the bagels are not chewy and dense, but more of a roll like texture and weight. There were air pockets throughout both large and small, they were much lighter than a NY style bagel. Flavor was actually more similar to that of a sandwich roll rather than a bagel. I can't quite pinpoint what they did wrong but my hunch is they do not use high gluten flour. High gluten flour is essential to a good bagel and what is used by all good bagel shops. If not that, they are not boiling or steaming the bagels properly. I hope this was an isolated incident and will give them another try next week, but will sample 1st and buy only if chewy, dense, and flavorful like a bagel should be. read more

Unfortunately, I would give this place that I grew up with negative stars if I could. It's over priced and the service is awful. I went today and got only a bagel with cream cheese and an egg and cheese on a bagel. I was waiting for 40 minutes for my food while everyone who was in line before and after me had left. I was so confused but tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. And every time I tried to get someone's attention to ask about my almost 30$ two item order they would talk to someone else or just walk away from me. Finally I asked someone and she responded "oh we're waiting for the egg..." no you forgot my order and took care of all the big orders instead. It doesn't take 40 minutes for an egg. They also forgot to put cheese on the EGG AND CHEESE bagel. So it was just 1 egg on a bagel. Pretty ridiculous. And 3 dollars I paid for a child's cup of powdered hot chocolate I had to fill up with water. All together my order was over 30$ with a tip and was treated like a 99cent order. Not ok. And it's sad because I grew up coming to this restaurant all the time and now it's the farthest thing from what it used to be. It's sad. read more

Outstanding bagels. This is the best bagel place I've been to, including several spots in New York. The Dutch Apple bagel is particularly interesting if you're looking for something sweet. God, I am so torn here. I want to give the bagels a 5/5, a 10/10, and A+, etc. They are really fantastic. Perfect taste, fluffy on outside + crispy shell, cool types/flavors, great cream cheese, decent bacon/egg/cheese (albeit a little greasy). But for the LOVE OF GOD the worst service on planet earth. Makes it so maddeningly impossible to enjoy. If you order just a few bagels (plain, nothing on them) they write it down and stick it in a line of confused tickets (by the time they wrote it down they could just pull them and hand you a bag). Then each person needs to explain to the cashier what he/she had and this creates pandemonium levels of confusion, unnecessary conversation, and endless delay. And if you actually have them make something for you, just be prepared to wait then essentially have to re-order to actually get the food. UGH. read more
