So I found Brooks on Google (I should have checked Yelp first!). I emailed their rep Colby and completely explained our situation that we had possible rodent/mice under our back house. He assured me he could get someone out there between 2:00 to 5:00 that same day. So at 5:00 I called to see if someone was still coming because I had not heard from anyone and then at 5:30 the technician calls me to say he was on his way. I asked the technician "can you do your inspection in the dark?" He tells me he is just set up to spray?? I ask you are spraying for rodents? He tells me no that he was dispatched to spray for pests?!? I tell him not to bother and I call back the next day. Carter who is Colby's assistant proceeds to apologize and to make up for the mix up lowers the monthly maintenance fee from $59 per mo to $49 per month. So, I agreed to a 1 year contract of $99.00 down and $49.00 per month. Fast forward to Saturday and the technician who in all honesty was very nice and he sets 2 snap traps and installed 2 bait boxes in the yard. We say our goodbyes and he leaves. The next day I have a $350 charge to my Amex for the service which I did not authorize verbally or in writing! You mean to tell me to set 2 snap traps and lay down 2 bait boxes is $350? I can buy all 4 at Home Depot for under $75. So what is the monthly maintenance fee for and the down payment? Not only that they do not go under houses or in attics, how in the hell do you fight rodents and pests when their company policy is that they don't actually go into the places where they nest and propagate? 06/24/2025: We had a one year contract with Brooks Pest Control in Riverside, CA (951) 421-1667, which started in May of 2024 and ended in May 2025. They were okay with their outside service for bugs but could never get rid of the Norwegian rats that infested our house that we were renting. I actually had better luck supplying our own rat traps and bait. I caught and killed a total of 9 rats including an adult rat whose body was about 6 inches in length without the tail. After our year was up, Brooks Pest Control still wanted to come out and service our home. I talked to the Customer Service (Kristen) wanting to cancel our subscription/contract and was tranferred to Accounts Services where I spoke with Carter. Carter asked wny I wanted to cancel service and I told him because I still had rodent problems. He then proceeded to try and convince me to have an additional three months of service visits to get rid of the rodents because he felt that Brooks hadn't done enough to get rid of the rodents. They had a whole years worth of service appointment and nothing helped, why would I sign up for another 3 months?? Carter would not take No for an answer no matter what I said or how pleasant I was. I resorted to threatening to go to the BBB because Carter would not listen to my declining service and wishes to cancel my contract, and that is when he abruptly said "Well you have a nice day!" and hung up on me! They could have saved us both a lot of frustration by honoring my wishes to cancel my contract. Unscrupulous business practices and a strong vote of NO CONFIDENCE! Oof. This is a terrible company. The short story is, after giving them several chances and lots of feedback on their service, we still have bugs. But in general, its young guys who are just mailing it in with sloppy service. If you aren't home - they use that as an excuse not to do the back of the house - even if you've communicated in advance with them that the side gate will be open, etc. After treatment, I would find spider webs in obvious places. Someone new comes each time, and they can't find where the other guy left the mosquito catcher. Yes, if you call and complain, they will send someone out for free. This caused me to stay a subscriber for about a year too long. But at the end of the day - I still have bugs! Also, they solicit your neighbors and use your NAME to try to seduce them into signing up for service. Never did I give permission for my name to be used in a testimony. When I called to cancel, they made a last ditch effort to send someone out "today" since they could see that my last service was "partial" (despite having access to the full house). First of all, if you're in need of pest control DO NOT USE BROOKS. It won't matter what area you're in, the chemicals used BARELY work, if at all. If you call to tell them it isn't working, they'll likely send out a "complimentary" technician to spray a different kind of insecticide that SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED IN THE FIRST PLACE. After about 7 months of use, we still have black widows around the base of the walls outside. I called and told them it wasn't working out and that I was now getting sugar ants that were a real annoyance. They sent out a tech that took care of the ants (great) but did absolutely nothing for the black widows which were obviously more than an annoyance. When I finally called to tell them, I wanted to cancel the service, they said it would be $225 to cancel the contract. If it was such a wonderful (and effective) service, why would they need a contract? It isn't like someone would quit after just one treatment, because according to them... regular bi-monthly treatments are required. So why the contract? Overall, technicians are always friendly. The representative on the phone; super friendly as well. The bi-monthly service; bogus. The contract; bogus. I'm so thankful for honest yelp reviews! I had a rep show up at my door. I recently moved to Bakersfield in a fairly new developing neighborhood. After 5 minutes of conversation talking about my issues with Ants etc. He told me about his packages that normally start close to $300 for the first service but for my first time he would do $150 for the first service and after that instead of $99 monthly he would drop it to $79. I then showed him a flier that was left on my door from another Pest Control that showed offers of $60 monthly. He then dropped the price again, and started asking me for my information, email, number, sq footage of home, address etc... which I gave him so he could send me the quote for me to look over at a later time... instead I quickly realized what he really wanted lol because soon after he quickly asked me for my card information. At which point I made it clear that I would not be setting up an appointment since I was traveling and I would not be home for another week I also added I would be making my decision upon my return after I've done my research on multiple companies and decide which is the best fit for me. I am in sales and I was not going to let this guy close me 5 minutes into a conversation. This guy continued casual conversation asking me about what insects have been a problem, being pushy that he needed to fill this spot, again asking me for my card information, I again told him I would not be making a decision soon. I had to tell him 4 different times that I would not be making a decision!!! This guy was so pushy he asked me for my card information 5 times! He also wanted me to initial the service agreement???!!!! I would give a zero if I could. I had a rodent problem (mice) and purchased the "special" for $99 ($200 off) if you sign up for their quarterly service. If you cancel before a year is up, you have to pay them $200. They came out, set some traps and did not catch ONE mouse. I set my own traps and probably catch about 20! I called them back out a few days later (day before was Thanksgiving) and they came to replace the traps that were used (MY traps). The tech had only rat traps and no bait. They were using cranberries, so I gave a bag of them. Again, not one mouse was caught. I had ordered more mouse traps and was using peanut butter and catching them like crazy. This company was worthless! I STILL have the issue in my garage that I continue to have to deal with...I would NEVER use this company. I do not recommend Brooks Pest Control. Scheduling with them is a nightmare. They give you a huge service window -- typically from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., which means you basically have to clear your entire day just in case they show up. The one time I was given an acceptable time frame I was told my technician would arrive between 8 and 11 a.m., so I stayed home all morning waiting for them to ring the doorbell (since the technician was supposed to spray inside my home). After 11 a.m., I left to run errands, only to get an email saying the tech had come by at 8 a.m., sprayed just my front door, never rang the doorbell, and left. Complete waste of time. The $40 I spend every month now is basically to just have them spray my front door. Huge waste of money. They also won't enter the backyard unless someone is home, but they won't give a reliable timeframe, so again -- you have to stay home all day just to get anything done. On top of that, they send a different person every single time, which is very unsettling when someone is going to be walking through every room of your house. It's uncomfortable not having a consistent technician. I've called and complained about these issues, and the response has always been "there's nothing we can do." No accountability, no adjustments. It seems like I addressed the problem before they serviced us, which is fine. However this company scams you into what they feel is a 'contract' for additional visits. I had no problem paying for the first visit but they tell you there's a huge 'cancellation fee' to get out of the alleged contract you signed so their move is to convince you that you might as well continue with the service appointments that you were tricked into committing to because it's a better use of the money. And they are obnoxious about it. And relentless with their billing calls. If only they were as diligent with their pest control as they are with their sketchy business and sales practices. Oh and they just pick random dates to show up without asking you first. And they left a service tag on my door when I asked them not to...because who likes to check into an Airbnb and see a 'pest control was just here' sign? And don't email them either. They'll just say to call their 1-833 number to handle any concerns over the phone because they can't over email. The reason for this is that they can't bully you over email, only over the phone. It's a tactic. I fully expect some lame reply from them to this review where they apologize and ask me to call their number. It would just result in them aggressively saying I signed some shady contract, which was not made clear to me by the shady sales guy. Look at the other reviews. This is a pattern. Go elsewhere. Brooks? More like CROOKS! If you are in need of a pest control company, beware of these crooks. We have been having an intense rat problem for a while now, and with the first Google search, Brooks comes up. We are convinced that they are buying 5-star Google and Yelp reviews, because I would give out 0 stars if I could. Their services consist of spraying chemicals around the house and putting rat traps up in our attic (which is where the rats were hanging out). Throughout our contract with Crooks, we barely noticed a difference in our house. We often would still hear crawling and scratching noises. Despite all this, their rat traps never trapped anything because they didn't place any bait (SEE PHOTOS), and they only put them at the entrance of our attic crawlspace despite still having a large space to cover. These crooks only do the absolute bare minimum. All of this was happening while they continued to charge our bank accounts every month. In a desperate attempt to get rid of these rodents, we started shopping for other pest control/extermination companies. We had 4 different rat companies come into our house to inspect the house, and they all pointed out the empty rat traps that Brooks has been setting up in our attic while simultaneously collecting our payments. As soon as we started doing business with a better pest control company, we attempted to cancel our subscription, and they gave us the biggest headaches. If you no longer need their services, good luck cancelling your subscription. They have a cancellation fee of $175. However, they will pull different gymnastics on you to get you to stretch out your contract in an attempt to convince you that it is a lot cheaper to continue their services rather than pay the $175 cancellation fee. All of this, only to realize after a few months of being scammed that they were just BSing us. We have spoken to 3 different account managers since March in hopes of cancelling, and the first two agents promised that our last payment would be this month, only to be told by the third agent that we still need to pay the cancellation fee after a few months of being charged the full monthly fees despite not receiving any of their services during those months we tried cancelling them.
