I discovered Brooklyn V's about a month ago and now eat there at least once per week. The pizza is fantastic! Being from Boston, it was an absolute blessing to discover pizza in Gilbert that actually tastes like the pizza back home (yes, Boston and NY pizza are very similar). The only other place I've found in AZ like this is Vincent's Pizza in Ahwatukee.
Now I would like to address Andy L's comments since my guess is that he had an ulterior motive for writing his review. So, let me address his comments directly:
"I was not told a price on the phone, I figured it would be in the 10 dollar range. Lesson learned, never assume anything! When i got there, I paid over 15$, which, I'm sorry is EXCESSIVE! They need to sprinkle gold or something on there to make it worth the money at that price."
I suppose Andy may have just had a phone number and not a menu but why would he not ask for a price when ordering food? More importantly, what decade did he write this review in? $10 for a pizza? Andy, please let me know where I can get a good pizza for $10. I'd love to try it. He states that "over 15$...is EXCESSIVE". Well, a couple of red flags here: No literate American that I know of writes '15$' instead of '$15'. This is a foreign way of denoting money and leads me to believe he is not even American. Does that matter? Well, it does if he's basing his statements on prices of the pizza where he is from. Maybe he pays $5 for pizza in his homeland and, thus, $15 seems "EXCESSIVE".
"I don't have extremely high standards when it comes to pizza-I love dominos, pizza hut, you name it-but the sauce was bland and had no taste to it. I lived in Boston for many years and have visited NYC many times; believe me when I tell you, this place has nothing, and I mean NOTHING in common with NY pizza."
So, Andy admits to having low standards in pizza, yet claims that Brooklyn V's sauce is bland? Please forgive me while I pause to laugh. I guess if you love Dominos and Pizza Hut, it makes sense that you might not like Brooklyn V's. Perhaps those two places are what Andy thinks NY or Boston pizza should taste like. I can assure you that you won't come across many Bostonians or NYers pizza that will claim to love either Dominos or Pizza Hut. BTW, I'd also like for Andy to show me what pizza he ordered at Dominos for under $15.
If he doesn't think Brooklyn V's pizza tastes like Boston and NY pizza, then I challenge his claim to have lived in Boston for many years and having visited NY many times. Well, maybe he did both of those things but forgot to actually try the pizza. I'd be curious to know some pizza places in Boston and NY that he considers good pizza. Because, quite simply, this *is* NY (or Boston) pizza.
Perhaps he considers Brooklyn V's pizza bland - that's a subjective matter - but that would mean he considers typical NY and Boston pizza bland as well. I am extremely picky about pizza and do not find anything bland about this pizza. The sauce is delicious and the pizza has just the right amount of cheese for me (not too much, not too little). To claim the pizza has "NOTHING in common with NY pizza" is simply laughable. This is not a subjective matter. He may not like Brooklyn V's pizza but making a claim that has nothing in common with NY crosses the boundary from objectivity into outright falsehood.
I am personally looking forward to bringing visiting friends and family to Brooklyn V's to get their opinions.
Thanks for bringing great pizza to Gilbert, Brooklyn V's! read more
