This was outstanding! When our cruise ship had an unexpected 3 day stop at the Brooklyn cruise terminal (thanks to hurricane Erin), my husband and I ended up at Brooklyn Escape room. This was one of the funnest parts of our trip! The room we did was outstanding and very well designed. It was also GIANT! I wish we would have brought a larger group with us because I feel like the experience would have been even better with more people. The clues and puzzles were diverse and fun! We have done multiple escape rooms in the past and the secrets hidden in this room were much more elaborate and extensive than the rooms we have done in other cities (and you can't beat the price...a room like this in Kansas City would cost at least double.) It's also in a GREAT location! Just wandering in the area we managed to find tons of great shopping, a chocolate factory and a ton of places to eat! You could easily spend a day there! Went to this Escape room as a group. We reserved "The Haunted" for us, a group of 9 and it was amazing. I co-ordinated with Regina through emails about reservations and she was prompt to answer. The only issues I had was she asked me to visit the place prior which seemed useless since they dont do entire room reservation in person. I went on a rainy day only to be told to continue emailing Regina but I'm letting that go since I enjoyed the room. Another glitch was their online booking, it took us 8 tries and almost a day to reserve the room online since it kept showing "full" even though it wasn't. We did the haunted room and it was kinda scary (PG scary) cause the room is dark. It was a girls night out event and we had a lot of fun. We escaped the room in 25 minutes since it was the easiest room, I guess. Regardless, it was fun. I've done many escape rooms and liked this room the best since it had more effects and more stuff to do. read more

One of the best escape rooms I have been to! Brooklyn Escape room takes the rooms to the nwxt level. Its not just deciphering pad lock codes and finding keys. Youve really got to have your eyes open for everything. I wish I could say more but I dont want to give any clues. They have 3 rooms of different difficulties and I have done 1.5 so far (one i had to take off early). Each room can hold about 7 participants at a time. They are all really well thought out. They have a decent sized lobby that seats about 10 for groups waiting to enter rooms and lockers for coats and cell phones. In the back there is also a party room. From what I saw the party room doesnt offer any bells and whistles but I am sure it will do the job. I hope that they change and make up some new rooms soon so I can go back read more

Walking out of there after honestly the most immersive escape room experience ever! I came with my brother to play the Haunted and we both enjoy solving puzzles and playing puzzle games, but the room was still reasonably challenging! Everything connected logically together, and even though we hd to bail because the immersion got our overactive imaginations running Gabi was so accommodating and let us know we could step outside if we needed a moment, and still continue to complete the room--something I've never found in an escape room before! The room was also very well priced, and one of the few private escape room experiences in NYC! My friend and I came here and did the Haunted room with just the two of us. We had a great time even though we didn't escape! Positive: We were definitely spooked by the atmosphere and the sound jump scares, which was fun. And we liked that it was dynamic (involving crawling) and had mostly physical puzzles (some escape rooms are too focused on logic puzzles). Service was great and our game master was very friendly. Negative: One frustrating thing was that some of the clues/drawers/etc seemed like they were falling apart, which made the physical puzzles less clear. We also thought there were too many red herrings. Also, sometimes the thing you had to do wasn't connected or didn't make sense with the story. But overall, fun! read more

Negative overall, clues were missing and not where the staff had said they should be, the real venue looked nothing like the photos posted online. We were let in over an hour late. After witnessing an employee lock another inside a room. We then witnessed bickering among staff that negatively impacted the overall experience. I highly would avoid this venue due to staff professionalism, the physical appearance of the venue. We left the experience after having the staff argue with us and change the story regarding how the room should function. Management did not appear to have an idea what was occurring. We went to the Haunting one because the other two were under construction. My party was late because everyone was getting off work but the man at the front said that's fine and we had the option of starting and letting the others join when they came or just being short on time. We decided to wait for everyone to begin. The rules were explained and we were told to not pull any wires or yank anything that doesn't budge. Then the story was explained and we began. The props and room design was creepy and really added to the overall experience. There was one issue though where we asked for a hint and the hint was to pull. We saw a dangling thing so we pulled. Then the worker rushed in and yelled at us for pulling a wire. We were all genuinely apologetic because he'd probably have to go and fix that after we were done, but it's dark and the hint was to pull. We couldn't see that the dangling item was a wire. If you didn't want people to pull any wires, just tape them to a surface so they aren't dangling or exposed. It was just bad timing for us. We escaped with 10 minutes to spare. The worker asked for us to empty our pockets for any props we might have and just rushed passed us to go check/fix everything in the room. We stood around wondering if there were any signs for us to hold up and take pictures of. When it was clear that he wasn't coming out anytime soon because he was fixing everything, we just chatted while waiting for our friends who went to the restroom. Another guest was sitting in the lobby and only then did we realized that we shouldn't talk about the room. It would have been nice if the worker reminded us to not speak about the room when we came out because we're all high on adrenaline or excitement so we disregarded everything else. There were 6 of us. My 14 year old daughter, 3 of her friends (all same age), my husband and myself. We did the "Hunted" (the easiest) All first timers. Never did escape room before. Used 2 out 3 hints allowed and got out in 45 minutes. The girls were screaming and freaking out every time the "hunted" room made a sound. It was a lot of fun to watch them. My husband didn't really participate much in solving the clues but his presence helped the girls feel more secure especially toward the end of the game. The second part is a bit more creepier :) Overall the girls did great but there is definitely some type of mechanism malfunction where the "key" fits and turns but nothing happens in some of the puzzles. read more

The clues are linear which makes group gameplay less fun- if you get stuck u can't just work on some other part until you figure it out. No screen or countdown just a poorly wired PA system where you barely hear the person giving "clues" Also we figured something out but did it " the wrong way" so they wouldn't let us move on to the next area. I've been to many escape rooms won many and lost many and this was the weakest in terms of gameplay and customer service. Would not recommend. Lately my friends and I have been on an escape the room kick. The amount of money I've spent on escape rooms this week is absurd. After making our way through most of the Staten Island escape rooms, we've decided to seek out other ones. I live nearby this location and decided to try it out. These escape rooms were a much different experience and we enjoyed it immensely. We booked the Medieval Dungeon earlier this week and by the weekend, we were back to try the Shelter R room. Without giving out too much away, both rooms were highly immersive, and had excellent details. There were so many different props to interact with and it was exciting trying to figure out how to make everything work. Both rooms leaned more towards physical exploration/adventure as compared to mental challenges/puzzles that made up precious escape rooms we had attempted. Both were on the spooky/creepy side, but not overly so. Our group asked a couple exiting the Haunted room for their thoughts; they came out laughing and in good spirits but said they were both scared throughout the entire room. We're eager to give this one a try too. The workers here were great! They were so helpful and enthusiastic and we really appreciated that. Special mention to the young man who helped us with the medieval dungeon, he was delightful. PS We only escaped from one of these rooms =( read more

Had a great time with my daughter. Alec did an amazing job asking us in advance how scary we wanted the room (after hearing a blood curdling cry form the group before us, my daughter wanted a more tame experience) and he did an amazing job making the room kid-friendly. We had so much fun trying to find the clues, and working together to solve the mystery. The room was awesome and the use of different media was super fun and interactive. A group of us recently became addicted to escape the rooms having completed 3 different rooms at 2 different locations in Staten Island. We opted to try this one and we are so glad we did. The whole vibe of the place from the moment you enter tells you what great detail they have put into the business. We did the Medieval Dungeon and I promise you it will not disappoint. The way you start this room is much more fun and immersive compared to others. Don't want to reveal any more information but the details in the room were amazing and it's a lot of fun. This is the most difficult room and if we had 5 more minutes we might have made it out. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful and enthusiastic. Positive: cool props, relatively linear puzzles, good for beginners. Negative: we come in, front desk person is on the phone, not even acknowledging us with a nod. Had to wait for another person to show up and take us in. No cool "we escaped" or "we're trapped" signs for the picture like in other places. No congratulations or asking how was it or anything. We leave, front desk person is staring into space, not even a "bye come again". Zero customer service. Trigger warning: Haunted's story is about a little girl left to die alone. I feel that details like this should be disclosed beforehand: it doesn't make puzzles easier, but i know some people who would've chosen something else instead. read more

I've done all three escape rooms here and they were all pretty good. Some solutions are too random and some hints tell you exactly what to do instead of giving a hint. Good decorations though and they were pretty fun. Rooms are pretty immersive for the storyline and the puzzles are pretty unique. Had a good time, would recommend! read more

I should start by saying that I've only done two escape rooms in my life, so I may not know the contours/vocabulary very well, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Medieval Dungeon. It starts off simple enough, then builds like a wave towards some very difficult challenges. The room is large enough that people can be working in tandem/parallel on different aspects of the major puzzles. Communication with the rest of the team is a must. There are a few spots in the room where I think better physical maintenance might improve the experience, there are one or two things that seemed just too-hard, and there are spots where I felt like the puzzle was tacked-on as a time sink, and didn't really fit the theme, but overall, I had a total blast, definitely plan to try the other two rooms, and would recommend this room to anyone. This place is really fun. I've done two of the three rooms, Medieval Dungeon and The Haunted. Both were quite fun. I did the Medieval Dungeon right after they opened and some of the equipment broke, which actually really tripped us up, but they've worked out the kinks since then, and when we came back for The Haunted, things were much smoother. I haven't tried Shelter R yet, but I'm looking forward to it. The main thing Brooklyn Escape Room has going for it is that real estate is a lot cheaper in Brooklyn so relative to its Manhattan counterparts, the rooms are HUGE. They make good use of the space too. Apparently they're thinking about putting together a 4th room which is much smaller than the others and is only for 2 people, which I think would be fun for when you can't get a full size group together. Ask about it if you agree so they see there's demand. read more

Warning: I will not spoil the game for you so feel free to read on. Out of all the escape the room, this is by far my favorite place to be. So I came here right after I got married, and we picked the hardest challenge. The hardest challenge was the medieval dungeon which had 38% of passing.. I thought it was pretty easy at first. Took us 5 mins to finished half the challenge but def got stumped later. You get one hour to finished and I didn't like the fact that there were no count down clock telling you how much time you have left.. maybe that would have been a better incentive for us to finish faster. The props also felt semi real. The atmosphere was almost on point and wasn't cheap like the escape the rooms in Chinatown. It feels more high tech here. HIGHLY recommend!! read more

Hold on to your hats ladies and gents, because after this review, your going to want to escape your LIFE. I'm a BIG escape the room fan, and this was a crushing disappointment. We arrived 15 minutes before our appointment, as it states on the website. We were informed that we were early and would have to wait 15 minutes before being prepped for our session. Ok. Half an hour later, and after servicing another party who arrived 15 minutes AFTER us, we were seen. I understand that rooms take time to get setup, but any kind of customer service would've really landed. The scenery was appealing, the clues were fun, we were all making good time, until we needed help with a particular clue. Our attendant told us where our clue was. Finding this clue really should require that you use gloves, and a mask, and things occurred that I must be vague about as to not ruin the scene, but Imagine your in an escape the room, and an employee just keeps coming in and walking around without any explanation, busting any element of illusion, and leaving the door WIDE OPEN. It KILLED any vibe of adventure and intrigue. And then somehow it gets worse. We explain our frustration, and our attendant said, "what service??" Proceeded to lie to us about what he has and hasn't warned us about (again, being vague to keep professional secrets, but had he said what he told us he said, he would have had to given away elements that weren't even revealed until half way through our scene). There wasn't a shred of apology, consideration, or frankly any understanding for the magic that makes this game so fun, not that we were getting from this young man. We walked away disappointed, personally insulted, and without refund. If you're into these games, there are so many others to choose from, for less money. There was a kind, bearded, newsboy sporting employee who was accommodating and seemingly understanding, and we absolutely felt that. Thank you. But in closing, you can escape the room, but you can't escape the abysmal customer service. read more

After reading the reviews, we chose to do "Shelter R" and I have to say, it was a GREAT experience. The moment you walk in, you know you're going to be in for a treat. The place just looks great. There were 3 of us in our group, so we wound up being paired with a couple (whom we did not know). We all became fast friends and an effective team because we were so invested in the game. And the atmosphere - staff included - has everything to do with that suspension of disbelief. I have to say, the experience was challenging but we almost succeeded in escaping and had such a blast working together to accomplish this task. All in all, a good time. The panic room experience was something I had been looking forward to doing for such a long time. It was well worth the wait as I had such a great time doing it with my friends. The panic room was challenging, but I made the mistake of coming with my friends that are not that smart which enhanced the challenge of the experience, lol, J/K. The key to panic rooms is not to overthink it. I had a tendency to do it initially but once you figure one thing out then it becomes easier to figure other clues out. We did manage to beat the clock by about a minute so that was a thrill. I would recommend going during the week so you can hopefully have an experience that you do not have to share with others but it can also be a fun experience to do with strangers which adds authenticity to the experience of being trapped with strangers vs only your friends. Either way works, it is just a matter of preference. It was very challenging, professionally run, and I would totally do it again. Highly recommend Brooklyn Escape Room. read more

We had an amazing time! This was a surprise for me for my birthday, and I had no idea what to expect - It was soooooo much fun! We were in the Fallout shelter room (whoever is a fan of the game would love love love this room). The whole experience was well thought out, super smart and sooo much fun to play! We planned to have our 10 year-old's party here yesterday. I'd had several exchanges with the staff to make arrangements and pay my deposit. We called about and hour and a half beforehand to double check that they were supplying plates for our food in the party room afterwards, only to discover by chance that the facility had been at least partially shut down by the fire department last week. No one notified us ahead of time, and when we expressed some exasperation that we were about to arrive with a gaggle of excited kids to a shut down facility, the staff member we spoke with was less than apologetic. read more

To start, in one instance you say that we were several minutes late but at the same time say you turned on the ac 15 minutes prior to your arrival? If that's true then you didn't turn the ac on until after you opened at 12. Except we were on time, we just weren't there 15 minutes early like you suggest, because how is it even possible to arrive 15 minutes early for an appointment at 12 when you open at 12? Aside from it being only a suggestion, you can't expect your customer to arrive earlier than the store opening. First off, I would like to thank the establishment for responding, and also for recognizing that my experience was true. I hope that you are willing to engage in constructive criticism because regardless of what I said in the heat of the moment I do hope that you improve, as it would be much easier to come to you rather than the many options in the city. I did visit you once before when you had only one room available, we had fun despite what ever criticism I had then. I am disappointed to see that previous criticism wasn't addressed, and I now regret the experience we had, so I hope you will take my complaint seriously. To be very clear, criticism is NOT abuse. We had a very unpleasant and frustrating experience and I was airing my frustration hoping you would hear me with concern. Your policy did not make sense to me regardless of how many times you think your customer is reminded of it. As far as abuse, I don't ever recall using obscenities and despite this your staff decided to admit us into the room and it wasn't until I mentioned that comment that things changed. The manager rushed out and said to me very specifically that I was being asked to leave because I wished your business to fail shortly after I said that, all while undermining the decision made moments before leaving us very confused. Also, she did not mention any abuse or profane language at the time so it seemed clear this was why we weren't allowed entry. I never once objected to leaving, especially when you followed that almost immediately with "I will call the cops" so after I received confirmation by email of a refund we left and I didn't say another thing in the store. You then mentioned we screamed obscenities outside your building, besides being completely irrelevant, the conversation I might have had with my friend was private and impossible to hear from your position. In fact the last thing said was the snide "have a nice day" by your manager as we were all walking out the door seeming only to add insult to injury. In addition, I never handed my phone to your staff but instead showed him what's on the screen as he asked for the card#. So it's impossible to snatch that away for him besides the fact that this is my own property. You never allowed us to participate in the games at all so why wouldn't you refund the money, and the fact is, you didn't offer an alternative to make another payment like you stated. This is absolutely untrue as I would have been very happy to provide another payment if offered. Should your customers be warned that you can choose to keep their payment at your own discretion regardless if they are even allowed to play? That seems concerning. As a manager it's your job to resolve customer complaints not escalate them. If you came out and offered an alternative, this could have been avoided. Instead you were extremely combative and ruined an experience for many. It is important that instead of defaming your patrons you take criticism constructively because it will provide a better experience for your customers. Please, read your negative reviews, you will see that it's pretty consistent. The staff is either unpleasant or just indifferent, not something you should expect from an entertainment venue that should try to immerse you in fantasy. To be honest I've found friendlier people at the hardware store down the street from here, so please remember you are selling an experience not paint. The experience is ruined the moment you walk in and the man behind the counter ignores your appointment while sitting on the phone. I had to remind him to get off the phone since we had that appointment. Maybe prioritize in person guests or at least make sure your staff acknowledges them with a greeting. A greeting is very important, you should never greet your customer with "do you have the credit card for entry?" as were were. Also, It seems others have this issue with the ac too, maybe allow at least an hour for your ac to cool the room? It's a very large space and I can't imagine 15 minutes being enough to cool that space. I know you think it's clear about your policy, however, most people are used to paying online and showing up with a confirmation or a ticket. Since you are doing otherwise, at least be a lot more forgiving and patient to those that may have not read the fine print. Also, be more consistent on how you enforce this policy and be more clear on alternatives. Thank you for your time. read more

This was my first time doing an Escape Room, and I thought it was awesome. I went with a group of friends and we did the medieval dungeon. Obviously I won't give away anything about how to solve it, but the room was really well-themed and it had a nice variety of clues so people with different strengths could contribute in different ways. Our group made it out in about 47 minutes and apparently we almost broke the record for the hardest of the three rooms. The bearded guy running it was really friendly and had a great sense of humor. He was happy to take our picture after we solved the room (we didn't even have to ask, he offered). I don't live in the area, but if I did I'd definitely come back to try out some of the other rooms. read more
