My friend had mentioned wanting to try painting pottery, so when we randomly walked by The Painted Pot, I made a mental note to check out their pricing. For the experience, I think the pricing is very fair. When you make a reservation, the person who makes it puts down $10. I thought that was the table fee, but that just got deducted from my piece. Thus, you only pay for what you make! Yes, I agree that $25 for a small plate is high, but for something that you are painting yourself with a variety of paints and supplies available to you, I think that's justified. The staff at The Painted Pot was extremely welcoming and friendly. They answered all questions and explained everything clearly. A different set of staff members helped me out at pickup (5 days later) and they were equally enthusiastic. My friend and I booked a reservation for 12:30-2. In the beginning, it was peaceful, but toward the end, there were many kids. If you want a zen experience, definitely book earlier on a weekday. The space is small, so it also can get cramped. If you are doing anything elaborate, 1.5 hours will probably not be enough for you to do 3 coats of paint, so you will probably need to book for a longer period of time. Overall, I highly recommend this experience to try out! If I ever have anything I want to paint or another friend who wanted to try, I would definitely go back. read more

before COVID. They used to be located by court street and now they are in park slope. Finally got to come here. It's a small place and tables are tight. Mostly families and small children when we came on a Saturday. You book in advance online to make sure you have a spot, it's pretty easy and you can change the time as many times as you want. The reservation is for an hour and a half. It's around $30-$40 a person for the normal stuff you would want to paint like plates and cups. They also have acrylic paint which is not food safe, but if you paint something with that you don't have to come back to pick it up. We don't live in Brooklyn but the woman said they call before they donate your pottery if you never come back and pick it up, the website says you have to come within 2 weeks but she said it's actually a month. The staff were all really helpful and friendly, and even though it was busy they were dealing with every customer promptly. It's fun and relaxing to paint, but it does get crowded and it's hard to move in and out of the cramped tables. I probably wouldn't come here without the gift card. read more

I came here twice with a couple of friends. We loved our experience together but not so much with the customer service. The rest of the staff seem nice and responsive, but there is 1 person in particular who is cold and seems to give an attitude with everything. I'm inquisitive by nature and so by default, I like to ask questions. My group was interested in purchasing clay to bring home and using their kiln to fire, and coming back to glaze. I had questions like: how much clay comes with it, how much do we need to pay, how many kiln firings, what type of clay is this, do you have other options, etc. I wanted to learn about the process because I am interested in ceramics as a hobby. I was often interrupted and met with quick, annoyed answers and the coworker on the side helped summarize his answers in a way that was more friendly. They don't have patience for people who want to learn more or learn about the process. Business here is very transactional. If you are here to just paint a piece and go, you'll be fine. I was here on the terms of hoping to be a repeat customer with purchasing clay and returning regularly for handbuilding, and I was glad I got to ask questions to suss out how the relationship with the business would be. NYC ceramicists will know that it is incredibly difficult and competitive to register for classes. I wanted to do handbuilding during my "wait time" as I search for a studio, but decided not to based on my interactions with the staff. I'm happy to say that I am now a part of another studio where they encourage questions, learning, and growth. I love pottery and this was a really fun date for me and my party of 4. I like this place because you don't pay by the hour, you pay by the choice of pottery piece. Bringing my designs to life was so much fun! 16 oz cup is $26 Large plate was $30 And i think other prices were around the 24-30 price range This place is BYOB and supplies are clean and ready for you to use. The host explained how many coats of paint to use to get the desired look - and everything else was self-explanatory. I made a mistake on mine with black ceramic paint and didn't know what to do to I thought I ruined it, but you have to take a sponge and wipe the paint before it dries - but if the paint does dry, it's okay anyways because when you wipe it off, you have to paint anything over it with 3 coats anyways. I have been going to the Painted Pot probably my entire childhood and now into adulthood. I have come here countless times throughout the years recently with a little girl. We have been to this location at least 5 times. I really like how they removed the studio fee. I am so ancient, I have been going to the Painted Pot since the studio fee. You come, pick your pottery, paint, and come back in to pick it up in about a week. The staff here is so incredibly warm to everyone. Every time I have come here throughout the past year or so, I have had Daisy help us. She is so genuine, and eager to help! I came in yesterday to make pottery with both a 5 year old and a 9 year old. They had an amazing time. This is a super cute date idea! You pay a $10 deposit to make a reservation (which goes into your pottery purchase later) and upon arrival, you are allowed to choose a pre-made pottery to paint. The entire session is 1.5 hrs. They have a pretty extensive selection ranging from cups, teapots, plates and trays to even animal figurines and home decor. Each pottery item has its own price. Once selected, you are given a card to place your paints and a worker explains what is available for us to use (e.g. stencils, sponges, pencils, etc). I wish the color selection was larger but it's understandable since this place is more catered towards kids. The paint brushes are also kind of rough so it's hard to paint more precise The pottery can be picked up after 7-10 days. It was a pretty calm experience and you're kind of just left to do your own thing. It's definitely a cute date idea or friends hangout. The prices are somewhat fair. Really loved my experience here! I've only ever been to Color Me Mine and this place in comparison was so much better! No sitting fee, lots of staff on hand for questions, can get your own paint whenever you want, and all the pottery securely stacked on the shelf to prevent accidents! I chose a cappuccino mug and saucer to paint, and although the prices were a little steep ($36), I felt like it made up for not having to pay a sitting fee. They do have a 1.5 hour limit but if there is no one waiting for a table, they are pretty flexible with time. A few small gripes, the brushes were really damaged. It was hard to paint with them because many were falling apart and sticking to my pottery, and it was hard to draw designs or be precise. I know children frequently attend this location, but maybe setting aside different brushes for adults could be helpful. I also thought their selection of items to choose from wasn't that large in comparison to Color Me Mine so hopefully they get more inventory. I did like that two people can work on one item without an extra fee though! Pick up the item after a week. They don't call you so you need to call them and ask if it's ready. My piece had some small little blue dots in random places where you wanna scratch it off but can't. Not sure where that came from but did impact the cleanness of the pottery so I wish they would be more careful during the glazing process. Overall, a good experience! read more

The folks here were incredibly helpful in numerous ways. They went out of their way for me and went the extra mile for sure. They also were very kind and patient with the numerous children who were, at one point, in the shop at the same time as me due to it being NYDOE spring vacation. This included special needs kids who were exuberantly doing various exuberant things and the staff could not have been more chill. I also went one time when it wasn't spring vacation and I was the only one there. So there are peaceful times too if you are child free! Zero Stars I went here. They charge you insane prices, there's two staff members (they don't do anything and move around so much that your wants cannot be met). It's aimed at babies, and their policy of one squirt bottle per person is nothing short of absurd. It's very annoying, but they respond with "calm down" and "one sec" ALL THE ALL THE TIME. So, no hairdryer. Well, there's also nothing else to erase your mistakes with than a shitty, used sponge. You have to, and I really mean this, 20 or more minutes for your paint to dry. "Oh, well, just work on another painting or something," you'd say. Well, that's be great if the ridiculous one squirt-bottler a person policy didn't exist here. And if you vent even the littlest amount of rage (maybe you messed up or something, maybe one of the 10937362827 kids tripped you or something), they tell you to stop and "that's enough please." And they are one more cliche, overly-babyish daycare place. Do not send your kids here!!! So, all in all: if you want a ruined afternoon, one where you can reflect and realize you could've done better with your time, go here. When I was first approached about going to The Painted Pot, I thought "Pfft-that's for kids. I'm way too cool for that." But I was dead wrong, because I'm pretty sure out of all the children and adults there, I was by far having the most fun. I'm a perfectionist, so tackling the idea of freehand painting on a ceramic pot seemed like a whirlwind of frustration waiting to happen. But once I picked my pot, chose my colors and sat down, every stressed bone in my jaded, adult body just melted away. I immediately fell into the therapeutic experience, finding the peaceful solace that I have been missing my whole life. The staff--Nancy and Kathy were so patient and helpful, that I had to make a conscious effort not to confide in them all of my life's problems. The only tinge of stress I felt during all those hours were from my boyfriend and his unwillingness to paint his ceramic Batman dog the correct colors (again, I'm a perfectionist), but that dispersed once I resumed my painting. For fellow perfectionists, I recommend coming with the expectation that you'll be there for about 3-4 hours since you'll obsess over every detail. For those less uptight, 2 hours should be plentiful time to bestow upon your masterpiece. Now not only do we have a wonderful pot (and a weirdly colored Batman dog) for our apartment, but I'm already planning my next visit! This place is what childhood (and adulthood) magic is made of. It's so much fun and so relaxing. There are also myriad fantastic food options nearby so recently going here and then to Bare Burger was an awesome low key date. The staff is really nice and they have an awesome selection of ceramics to choose from. I was surprised by how unique and interesting some of the options were, they had a bunch of options that were trendy and a cool addition to any home. There are also SO many tools to make your ceramics beautiful and one of a kind. The only suggestion I have is that it would be so cool if they would add more colors of glazes, or different types. Perhaps they could have options like raku glazes, which might be difficult but it would absolutely attract more adults. I'd be willing to pay much more for that opportunity! On top of astronomical prices per piece ($2.75 per letter for 1 1/2 inch letters that weigh about a tenth of an ounce) they charge a hefty studio fee, which they did not disclose upon entry. The letters were deceptively marked at a cheaper rate to boot, so the total cost for an hour's entertainment was over $60. Disgusted by the pricing and will never, ever return to this parent trap. For 1/3 of that cost, you can take two children to the Children's Museum of Art for an amazing art adventure and hours of fun. Take the train and send this place a message that parents will not be taken advantage of just because we live in Park Slope. Appalled. read more

The women who were working here on August 8th couldn't be bothered to get up from their chair to answer any questions or even provide additional knapkins. I love this place!! I've been there alone, on dates, play dates and had my daughter's 8th birthday party here. The experience of creating usable art (bowls, plates, mugs etc) is not only relaxing, but useful. I still use all of the items that I painted here. My daughter's birthday party went off without a hitch! Imagine 12 8-9 year old girls on a snowy day in January painting ceramics?!? My very Manhattan-centric 8 year old twin girls wanted an adventure today in "another borough", so after Googling and Yelping around, I decided to take them to The Painted Pot in Park Slope. We ended up making a whole afternoon of it, they loved the charm of beautiful Park Slope and had a blast at The Painted Pot. We almost had the place to ourselves, and Elena was incredibly helpful and kind. My kids were so happy, they want to go back next weekend! At first it seems like the prices on the pieces are high, but when you consider the amount of time you spend with your kids having bonding time without electronic devices, I think it's a bargain. My kids made me paint my own piece, and I'm so glad they did. It was very relaxing and meditative, and I also enjoyed the fun music they were playing (mostly Motown). We had our son's 6th birthday party here and could not be happier. We had about eight kids and they kept them busy and happy. They gave us a lot of personal attention. The 2 assistants struck he perfect balance of giving the kids gentle guidance but really letting them paint how they wanted.
