They knock the competition out of the park. 8 of us did "Montauk" and it was outstanding. Easily the #1 escape room in nyc and nationally in the top 10%. The degree of immersion and the thoughtfulness of the sets are a big win. Also minimal use of combo locks and the rooms did not feel linear, with people making progress on different puzzles at the same time. The mood is also fantastic with 1980s vibes and stranger things fans will appreciate some of the design elements. The tech was very creative and challenged your senses and forced coordination and teamwork! My group did two rooms over 2 days which were Escape From Rikers Island and The Haunted Hotel. The puzzles were definitely head scratchers but we got through them both thanks to teamwork and our awesome game masters. Speaking of them, both Charlie and Ryan did a wonderful job making our experience so much fun! I highly recommend this place while visiting NYC if you like escape rooms!

Lots of fake blood, creepy clowns, and even some jump scares built in. Definitely use your brain and think outside the box!! The puzzles were really unique. The only feedback I have is some of the puzzles were a bit wonky probably because a lot of people have been touching them so there are things that should be tuned up or fixed. Trying not to spoil so I'll try to be as vague as I can while giving feedback. So there's one puzzle where you have to smell things but everything smelled like the same rotten/rancid smell so my team members and I content differentiate the scents and had to randomly guess instead of actually solving the puzzle. There's another puzzle where you have to turn something but it was wonky from wear and tear and the tracks on them were worn down. Paul was our game master, and did a great job. He also said this room was the hardest one and the scariest one out of them all.

They're not polished and some props were finicky, but they were decent enough to do, especially when they give a 50% off discount for doing another escape room with them in the future. All rooms have a good combination of puzzles. They have simple, but intuitive storylines. Game masters have all been attentive and nice. We've only encountered one game master that rushed us out, but the rest were all patient and provided great service. Sometimes they can be understaffed. In those cases, we didn't get a proper "send off" with an opportunity to take a picture and ask questions. If I were to choose only one or two escape rooms to do from here, I'd recommend The Perfect Crime and then Exodus. Those two rooms felt the most cohesive and had just the right amount of challenge. From most to least favorite, I'd rank their rooms as the following, and I wouldn't recommend anything below Prey and Masquerade: Perfect Crime, Exodus, Prey, Masquerade , Nuclear Annihilation, Quarantine. Even though Prey and Nuclear Annihilation are said to be their hardest rooms, they are only hard because they have more puzzles, but the puzzles aren't hard. Some can be not intuitive, but most of them seem like busy work and lazily designed. I think the combinations of puzzles in Perfect Crime and Exodus were the most cohesive and tied most closely with their storylines.

When we walked into the room itself I was already panicking as I did not see much to start the escape process in itself. Hardly any book shelf's, tables or doors to find objects. Everything had a lock on it so we knew we definitely had a mission. Also it was a bit confusing as some things in the room had nothing to do with the escape room. They do mark the items with a red x but it was very unfortunate. We seemed to have been in the corner room which had a real exit door and real elevator which is not the best for safety reasons. With all the fun and excitement someone eventually will try to open them. The puzzle was definitely a lot harder than we anticipated but it felt great when we worked together and figured it out! We did have to ask for clues along the way and they did a great job of not entirely giving it away and letting us decipher it amongst ourselves. This room is 1 hour but the last few mins is always the best. I definitely suggest a large group for these escape rooms they are so much fun. We escaped the exodus !!!!

Anyways, we played several games, from drawing blindfolded to a reverse family feud style game, etc...it was soo much fun! Btw, the host was recording while hosting (great job multitasking!) and ended up sending us a cute reel of the game highlights-loved it!! We will definitely be back, and will be checking out their other locations!!

I was sorry clueless what I was stepping into, but the two hosts throughly explained. They also have an Ai character who explains each different game. I believe we have five different rounds/games. Ultimately, you have a final round, which was similar to Jeopardy. You place your wager, based on a topic, which both sides have to be agreeable to, and then you answer the question and reveal your wager. My team was done the whole game and won in that final round. I have a great experience with our host, Shannon, and the whole experience was pretty cool. Cost about $50 per person, and at the conclusion, you'll be provided a code for 20% off, a future visit.

We found this one to be very scavenger-hunt-esque of finding codes, keys, and objects. Few puzzles. - Cheaper on week day than weekend, at least from what I was able to discern from online booking. Cheaper tickets if you book with more people ($50 if less than 6, $45 if 6 for "Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box" on a Saturday). With the fees, the $45 price is $49, so essentially it's $50 even for the cheaper group fare on a weekend. Pros: For at least the "Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box", there were multiple rooms to run around in, which was fun and had more space for the 6 of us (vs. one main room). Cons: - There is a host but they go over general rules before entering the room. Once it starts, firstly the main door was kept ajar the whole game, which made it feel less immersive and I'm not sure if that was a mistake or not on the host's part. - There was an introduction audio once we began but it was barely audible to any of us so no one had any idea what was being said. It was the context to the game, and by the end of the game (don't worry, no spoilers) but we were confused if we solved it because we missed the context and the "objective" of what we were doing in the room. - Dim lighting which didn't personally hinder our experience, but I can assume that those with vision impairment could have a more difficult time I would come again if I can book with the cheaper fare and if I confirm there are more puzzles involved in the other rooms.

Unfortunately, it went downhill from there and this was probably the worst escape room we've experienced (we've done roughly 20). The room was very dark throughout (for atmosphere), but to the extent that we had to use the flashlight on our phones the entire time - which quickly became annoying. There were very, very few puzzles to solve and they had to be done one at a time. Several puzzles were broken - we literally wouldn't be able to see the relevant information because a screen was too scratched up or a telescope wasn't adjusted properly, and it really takes the fun out of things when you have to ask for the code you're supposed to be seeing because you know where it is but actually can't decipher it. There were very few context clues and the room was actually quite sparse. The communication with the game master was broken and we were given a walkie talkie which went in and out, and half the time we had to ask them to repeat themselves over and over. Don't know if the other rooms are any better, but I don't think we'd go back based on our experience of Shelter R.

The family owned and run couple greeted us were warm friendly and explained the rules clearly how to play. Soon we were in a dungeon and had to WORK TOGETHER with our group to survive. From the level of detail with the design to the actual puzzles it was clear a lot of thought was put into each puzzle and there were multiple rooms. They are watching in case there's an issue or if you request a hint and give you time updates. The five of us didn't survive but we did make it to the last room and the owner actually still let us complete/showed us the puzzles. (We definitely needed more time lol). The only cons is better signage when u get to Industry City (the puzzle starts upon arrival to the building lol) and the speaker when the host was speaking was a little muffled. Net net if your looking for a unique experience, party, event this is a HIGHLY reccomended experience to do with a group and worth travelling to.
