A well done escape the room I was here the past week with my friends and we have been to a few escape rooms before. We tried the City of Ash and we successfully escaped ~ Hooray !!!! Overall, we had a great time at Escape Hunt Phuket. The service by our game master Ada was excellent. She was very attentive and clear, and was very careful to limit her clues to only what we really needed. The room itself did a good job of giving bits of clues early that would be used later. I found myself wondering about them a lot while playing. The atmosphere is well done and the horror is not overwhelming. It is a great story and immersive experience if one love horror movie. General Notes: - There is no countdown/time tracking in the room, which I did not mind. In fact I felt more immersed and it was fun to have absolutely no concept of time. - My friends and I did the "Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box" room. We found this one to be very scavenger-hunt-esque of finding codes, keys, and objects. Few puzzles. - Cheaper on week day than weekend, at least from what I was able to discern from online booking. Cheaper tickets if you book with more people ($50 if less than 6, $45 if 6 for "Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box" on a Saturday). With the fees, the $45 price is $49, so essentially it's $50 even for the cheaper group fare on a weekend. Pros: For at least the "Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box", there were multiple rooms to run around in, which was fun and had more space for the 6 of us (vs. one main room). Cons: - There is a host but they go over general rules before entering the room. Once it starts, firstly the main door was kept ajar the whole game, which made it feel less immersive and I'm not sure if that was a mistake or not on the host's part. - There was an introduction audio once we began but it was barely audible to any of us so no one had any idea what was being said. It was the context to the game, and by the end of the game (don't worry, no spoilers) but we were confused if we solved it because we missed the context and the "objective" of what we were doing in the room. - Dim lighting which didn't personally hinder our experience, but I can assume that those with vision impairment could have a more difficult time I would come again if I can book with the cheaper fare and if I confirm there are more puzzles involved in the other rooms. read more

When you try to find this place, it is non descriptive. The only way I located it was because I saw people congregating in the front. But be sure to locate a sign right by a wooden door. Once you go inside, you have to take three flights up the stairs like a school corridor or stairwell. It isn't handicapped accessible. Onto the place - this is my first escape, the room experience for 2023, and is located in Brooklyn. I recommend this place as they were very accommodating and it was very fun + entertaining. In order to make it fun for them, they wanted us to do the wave whenever we asked for one of many unlimited clues. We did solve it with a minute and 50 seconds to spare. This was a fun, spooky escape room experience. My group of five came for The City of Ashes game. The room was completely different from the description in the studio and online, but we still enjoyed it. The room had scares and was definitely horror themed. I am a baby when it comes to these things so it wouldn't have been my preference, but I survived. The scares give you a nice jolt of adrenaline. The room is quite tricky and our guide said afterwards that no group has escaped without clues so don't feel too bad if you need a few. We did manage to escape. The room was mostly search-and-find focused. A few puzzles but not too much math or logical reasoning required. Pretty high quality props. They will take a picture for your group at the end inside the room if you ask. They give you a 20% off coupon for your next activity so I would come again. read more

I wanted to check out Komnata Quest because their Google reviews are astounding, and their rooms looked fun! I had also called Komnata Quest, and the person I spoke to was so excited to tell me about the rooms. We did the Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box with a group of 3. While my friend and I like doing escape rooms as a duo, it's $50/person for 2, and $35/person for 3. After you complete your game, you get a code for 20% off. At the 104 West location, they are located on the 3rd floor but need better signage outside the building because it is a bit sketchy. You get unlimited hints here as well. For this room, I enjoyed the layout and a majority of the puzzles. This room is on the easier side, and a good number of clues are found by searching instead of puzzle solving. However, if you cannot spot red herrings, I can see where some people might get caught up! Compared to other NYC escape rooms at this price point, I think Komnata Quest could do more. My major issue with Komnata Quest is how they operate. First, our moderator Bridget cannot hear anything we say in the room. The clues are prerecorded, so if you have a specific question about something, the moderator will not give you a personalized answer; there is no way for them to contact you! The second thing that bothered me was that there was no time clock in the room. Bridget mentioned that it is for an immersive experience, but to me, timing is part of the strategy. Part of my thrills come from pacing out the experience and knowing when to productively struggle versus asking for clues. When they said no phones or watches, I left my watch on because it is not a smart watch, and I just assumed that they didn't want you to have that in the room. I didn't realize they didn't want you to not see time at all. When I called Komnata Quest, this room was actually not recommended, but it was one of their beginner rooms. The recommended rooms have jump scares, but I may be willing to try one to see if the experience is better. I will update my review accordingly if it proves more fun! read more

My wife and I, both escape room enthusiasts, tried the Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box and our experience was downright horrible. 12/10 4:20pm. We left feeling very offended and disrespected. Firstly, the design of the puzzle was laughable at best. The room was too dim to see -- yes even compare to escape room standard -- which makes the game not fun ( no flashlight/phone allowed). In order to find the keys that were hidden within plant props, you need to dig and lift through heavy props then shake the filthy dust-filled props until keys drop out. It was not working together to solve a puzzle but rather scrambling through trash to hopefully shake out something from a prop. All the locks are numbers only and ordinary. The level of technology or wow "factor" was elementary. And at many times, clues were not relevant because they were remnants of previous games setup. At the same time, there were no intercom or timer so you won't know your progress. Staff NEVER once reminded us of time. Most importantly, the key master was the dealbreaker for us. She explained there were unlimited hints in the beginning and you need to "bow" in front of the camera to get a hint. We bowed, on average, 2 times per camera from room to room ( total of 6 times in 3 rooms ) before they meagerly gave us a hint which was, by the way, a mumble. In the end, upon asking why it took so long to get a hint, she simply rolled her eyes at me and ignored my question, twice. Just silence thereafter. Bowing down in Chinese culture ( the theme of the game ) generally shows gratitude but at times it can be used to show inferiority. The mannerism of the gesture depends on how it is read and the situation in which it happens. Requiring MULTIPLE deep 90 degrees bows, along with a "dance", to get a hint as if we are beggars was uncalled for and insensitive. If getting hints was this troublesome at least say so in the introduction. Do not say it is unlimited and mislead your customers. Bowing is much more formal than a "Thank You" and should not be treated lightly and in a culturally insensitive way. As Chinese ourselves, we left feeling disgraced and humiliated. read more

My husband took me here as a surprise for our Saturday date day and I had no idea what I was getting into. I've never done this before and was quite reluctant at first especially when he told me he chose the "boxed up" escape room adventure (I'm claustrophobic), where we were both handcuffed, blindfolded and locked in separate coffins but surprisingly, we both had a lot of fun as time progressed and it allowed us to work together as a team to escape... The instructors were all very nice, helpful and thorough. The prices were a bit high but we had an amazing experience so it was well worth it. They also have promotions going on for selected escape rooms from time to time (check out their Facebook page). I highly recommend this place for any group of friends or couples who are looking for an exciting, indoor adventure. All I can say is WOW!!! This was my 8th escape room and by far the best I have ever ever done. It's always hard to review escape rooms because I don't want to give away anything from the room and ruin your surprise and excitement so I can't go into too much detail. We did the Suicide Hotel room. It was definitely challenging but wow was it creative and fun. We escaped in 45 minutes!! The one thing that was really different here was that the room did not display the time and I think that really helped us be more immersed in the room. Sometimes you see how much time you have left so you focus on trivial things just because your time is winding down and here you had no idea so you just play. I would definitely recommend this place and I already booked my next room there! read more

ESCAPETHEROOMers first visited Komnata Quest at the Pearl St location (closed for now) in Sept 2018, The lobby is well designed with decor and lockers to place your items while you enter your room. The game master will immerse you into the story right away from the beginning and remain in character all the way until the end. We tried the "Sherlocked" room. The set design of the room was pretty high quality as well. The room is well maintained and feels very much like the rooms in London. You'll have some reading to do and a few clues to follow in order to piece everything together for the ending just like a detective. So if you are into crime solving, this is the room for you. The way the clues are given in the room are also quite clever. They definitely incorporated the "High-Tech" with the theme quite well and all of them were fully functional! We did have a frustration moment with the last puzzle but ultimately we were able to solve it. We completed this room with just the two of us and got out with only a few minutes left. This was however the most expensive escape room that we've done so far. But as far as production goes, we felt that it was well worth it and will most likely return soon. Next, We tried" Maze of Hakaina" . Once again, our game master was in character from the beginning to end. From the surround sound system to the production quality of the maze, this was hands down the best that we've ever seen. When you enter the room, you already have a feeling of entrapment and sometimes actually feel a slight breeze as if someone's following you. It's not scary in the sense of horror but definitely in the sense of suspense. Due to the theme of the room, the lights were pretty much dim throughout. But there were parts that involved strobe lights which affected one of our friend's and she got a little bit dizzy in there. So if you are susceptible to flashing lights, this might not be the room for you. The puzzles didn't feel that challenging to us. However, kids would probably do better in this room since it involves a lot of searching for hidden objects. The only issue we experienced was that music was loud and delayed our game master from acknowledging our request for hints. There was also a delay in triggering one of the high-tech puzzles, but not sure if that was because it's manual or not. We went for the robbery as a team builder and killed it with 10 minutes to go. David was our game master and he was super awesome. As a tip and potential spoiler:use the knee pads. They will save you a lot of biofreeze. I signed up for another one right after using the 20% off offer because escaping rooms is a transferable skill I can put on my resume. This is the third escape room my husband and I have done, but first time doing it with Komnata Quest. We went with two people who had never done an escape room before. We did the Chinese Jewelry Box and for the most part, it was set up pretty well and we had a lot of fun. However, we did have some comments. In the other to escape rooms my husband and I had done, there was a TV screen that gave us the "story," and later gave us the clues. Why was this important, well, at the beginning, we couldn't understand the story at all. It was said over a loud speaker, and even though all four of us are used to making out announcements on the subway, this was close to impossible to understand. We weren't sure if we were missing clues in the story. Another comment was that we were told initially not to use force. If we had to force it, it wasn't for us - which makes sense... except one last clue was stuck in something and Kyle (our game master) eventually had to intervene to tell us we needed to force it. I was the one trying to get to the clue, and I specially didn't force it, because I thought I wasn't supposed to. I did think the room was well detailed, and well set up. I did like that there was unlimited clues (in past games we've been limited). I have mixed feelings about not knowing how much time we have left. We've been able to know in the past, however, we also had limited amount of clues - so we used the time to space them out. As we had unlimited clues, we didn't need to. I did felt like the lack of time kept some of the pressure off for us to focus on the clues. We did make it out (Yay!), and we all agreed we would not only do this again, but go back to Komnata Quest again. This is my third time doing escape room and it was pretty fun. I did The Robbery, That Changed The World. If you're looking for something more physical, this is definitely the room for you. I'm only taking away a star because at one point, we were really and it was possibly from the previous group that yanked it out. Fantastic experience. Really Fun and different kind of activity for friends, family, co workers or couples. I've been talking about the experience to so many people, and Komnata in Greenpoint really has the service, location and entire experience down. We did the Murder Mystery Escape. I called ahead to find the scariest escape as a gift for my son who likes making scary and action films. This was for him, as I jump at a boo whisper in haunted houses - and as my son said 5 minutes in and I admit - in haunted or creepy scenarios I am a "wimp." I was here. This escape room had me feeling I was in a creepy nightmare not knowing what was next or lurking... The set up is extremely well done and extremely SCARY. Capital letters. Did I scream ? Yes. That may have brought the murderer closer. My tough guy son was also completely scared. He had a blast seeing me scared and getting more of a scare out of me throughout the experience rather than helping, enamored with the creative clues and props ... while I in my horrified panicked finger trembling and mush brained state frantically tried to figure out how to get OUT. I was so scared and flustered toward the end I told him I would take away his phone for the night if he didn't stop scaring me more and try helping. Very funny now (not then.) Komnata should offer an option to buy a videotape of the experience. Seeing my son and I - me completely horrified mush brained and panicked, and him laughing and instigating further scares - would have made for a priceless laugh out loud video after the fact. My only pointer without giving anything away: even basic to somewhat challenging clue finding is difficult when brains turn to mush scared. A first timer for escape rooms, I was ready to analyze and dissect every single thing like a pro Sherlock Holmes solving a real crime scene. Here, use caution: paralysis by analysis, a time killer. Also in our case some dexterity/ skills were required at one point and I did not know if it was an error/ fluke in our set up. That part was frustrating. The service was outstanding from Konstantine taking my initial call answering questions and recommending/ booking the scariest escape room my son would like (note kids under 16 must have an accompanying adult in this one), to David's friendly front desk service and Edith as a host, helpful giving occasional as needed suppor. The entire staff was great. Highly recommend, and I will definitely go back. Escape rooms here are fun for friends, a great team building exercise for colleagues, and actually I think could even be a super test for couples to see how well they communicate and collaborate in a time sensitive high pressure escape situation ... ready to have some fun or take a next step in a relationship ? My group of friends and I just left the escape room scenario City of Ashes, and we all came out disappointed and angry. To keep it brief, our game master made us fell rushed and did not timely give us hints and shrugged off our complaints on mechanical issues that occurred while we were in the room. Triggers didn't work properly, tools didn't work properly, and when we asked for hints, they weren't given to use in a timely manner, making us feel like we wasted time standing around asking for multiple times for a hint. All 4 of our group members are experienced escape room enthusiasts, and it was very very unfortunate to experience this at a Komnata room, because two of our group members had much better experiences at another Komnata location. We were looking forward to this, as we all loved horror themed rooms. The concept of the room sounded great, but the execution was lacking. We immediately could tell the puzzles were overly used and not maintained well. Lobby was very small, and we felt cramped and rushed to start. The game masters can be more enthusiasts about their roles and play their part better in getting us excited and immersed in the whole story and ambience. read more

Me and my brother did Boxed up and overall it was a great experience. All of the puzzles were doable and nothing was ridiculous which is seriously frustrating at an escape room. We did escape after some hints but I did also feel that the escape room could have had more depth and more things to solve. To me it felt rather short. Good for people new to room escape but might leave more experienced groups wanting more I have completed two of Komnata's room escapes, Chinese jewelry box and one they changed the name of and moved that was dungeon themed in LIC. Pros: good set design and unique setups that are different from most room escapes. Cons: usually only one or 2 puzzles that can be done at a given time. This leaves some people in the group without much to do or looking over others shoulders. Most puzzles in the room I did were scavenger hunt style or involved what seemed to be magic for things to happen instead of actual tactile mechanics. read more

Oh Komnata. Your rooms will always be one of my favorites. Ranging from 1-6 person rooms you'll never be paired with anyone else. Having burned through most of the rooms I can honestly say that this company is one of my favorites. Rooms range from murder mysteries to Frankenstein themes, and are always multi-roomed. The hosts are always fun and chill, and they come out with new ones every month or so. I'd definitely recommend this place, especially the murder mystery, the hotel room, and boxed up! read more

There are a few points of frustrations which other members of my group voiced in their reviews as well. I've done another game at your location and enjoyed the hosts. But my frustration is with: 1). We expressed concerns with the charges when we got to the place that we were charged for an extra person, which was brought to my attention by the host. I didn't even realize that I paid for 8 - considering I booked this last minute. 2). The host asked the owner to address our issue, he said he would after our game. Which he did not do, and it was odd he didn't want to address it at the moment. 3). After the game, he was no longer to be found, and I waited 15 minutes to get a response 4). One of the hosts mentioned the website was being glitchy, I agree there could be user error, but the run around was very time consuming 5). Lastly, we were offered a one person credit if we booked our next experience at the spot, which I wasn't willing to do after the very disappointing experience. read more

Excellent adventure. The trend these days, and I'm happy to see that it's catching on is no longer to require guests to "escape" from rooms, but rather to accomplish a specific goal working together as a team. They will always be called Escape Rooms, stemming from their humble beginnings as rooms that once trapped their players for 60 minutes. But this trend is refreshing and I embrace it at every turn. We played Frankenstein and it was so clever and immersive, I forgot what city I was even in! The decor was great and really set the mood. There were three of us and we struggled at times, but a few well placed hints helped us limp along and we got to the end by a hair's breath. The puzzles were challenging and were themed perfectly with the story of the game. There was a perfect blend of tech puzzles/locks and padlocks so that neither felt out of balance. Set design was well done and the dim lighting, while challenging if you forgot your reading glasses, added to the ambiance. The staff was wonderful and we loved talking to Vlad and Polina after the game. We will be coming back to play The Joker in a day or two. I'd say that the trick is to not wait too long to ask for a clue if you get stuck and to trust them, that they aren't going to give away too much -- they will just give you a nudge to help redirect you so you can solve the next puzzle. Highly recommended, and now I know why so many people in the industry rave about Komnata -- they really know escape rooms, and they work quite hard to provide a great player experience. read more

Komnata's escape rooms came highly recommended - a friend who organized a night out in Greenpoint booked a group of us for two of their rooms. as it turns out, they're just a few blocks from each other. I'll review the two locations separately because the experience was, sadly, quite different. the Frankenstein room was done quite well - we made it out with 5 minutes left. very immersive and atmospheric, and a welcome challenge. I've done about 10 escape rooms thusfar and only failed 2. I will point out a minor complaint with regards to the hints - there was quite a delay between us trying to get the camera's attention. a bit time-consuming. what is neat is that Komnata offers a 20% discount if you book your next room with them after finishing one here. as their prices are a bit higher than some others, that may be worth checking out. read more

This was a blast....but without giving it away, beware of going on saturday night. The young woman working there was, well, annoyed at us at best? Such a crap attitude. The people who set up the rooms and go over the rules are a HUGE part of the experience. If they fail, it throws everything off. One of the 'things' was not intuitive and malfunctioned. As a result, the ending was a let down. The girl opens the door and says in an annoyed tone "you guys won...I gave you an extra 15 min". There were also a lot of loose wires and such that added to confusion in the rooms. Not a very well- maintained room, in general ( especially wehn something malfunctioned).....She also sounded pissed-off whenever giving a hint. Anyways, The Murder Mystery room is a blast...would try another room but would really scope it out to make sure I am not interrupting any of the quest master's dinner break. read more

We came with two friends to do Frankenstein escape the room. This is my second experience at Komnata Quest. I was very impressed with the Sherlock room so we were intrigued to try another experience. I must say, the level of details, thought process and interior design were well designed. I found it fascinating how they employed a bit of old school method into this room. I don't want to divulge too many details but it is certainly worth the trek to Greenpoint. The level of difficulty is medium high. We managed to escape this room and had a fantastic time. My girlfriend and I did a couple rooms at Komnata Quest on a recent trip to NYC. After doing 90+ rooms in LA we were eager to try the best NYC had to offer and we heard from multiple sources that Komnata was the place to be. We did Maze of Hakaina at their Manhattan location and Boxed Up at their Brooklyn location - didn't want to post reviews separately on each Yelp page but I have more thoughts about Boxed Up so I thought I'd focus on that. Maze of Hakaina was fun although it was probably overhyped for us. The maze element is oversold and the set design, while cool, is a bit one-note. But it DOES have one very exciting moment that is worth doing the room for, and a couple clever puzzle moments as well. I would say it's definitely above average but not mind blowing if you've done a lot of rooms. For newbies I think it would be great. Boxed Up however I can't recommend, which is a bummer to say because it's SUCH a great premise. The first 10 minutes were extremely fun, but frankly after that there just isn't much to do. It quickly devolves into one person having to wait around for the other and vice versa, and ends in a very anticlimactic way (that is *spoiler alert I guess* someone just walks in the room and says you won). With a couple tweaks this would be a fun 30 or even 20 minute room that they could charge maybe $15 bucks for, before or after your main room. But as it stands, it's 36 bucks for a pretty unsatisfying game and we couldn't help feeling a bit ripped off. The customer service here was also a bit odd in my opinion. After we did the Maze room we were offered 20% off if we wanted to do another room right away. We had plans after so we couldn't, but were in the area the next day with some time to kill, and saw an open slot for a game starting in about 15 mins. We decided to call and see if we could play with that 20% discount - seemed reasonable. But we got a hard no on that. Not saying they should just let anyone play at a discount at any time, but it seemed odd that they would rather leave the game completely empty than get our repeat business at a little lower rate. What an amazing escape the room (7 sinful pleasures) It was filled with technology, mystery and great adult related themes which are meant to push your boundaries as they are meant to make you a bit uncomfortable (but in a great way). This was my first escape room with a large group of people. We had different groups so each group had different rooms. My group landed in the Doctor Frankenstein room. Some of the escape rooms are in different parts of the building (separate from where you check in) and some are in other buildings. We had a friend on crutches but they helped us get access to the elevator since our room was upstairs. The concept and rules were thoroughly explained. Our valuables were locked up securely. And I had THE BEST time. I can't wait to do another! This one was a lot of puzzle solving and we had a good group where each person was able to figure out different parts of the overall goal of trying to wake up Frankenstein. Hearing the experiences that my other friends had in their escape rooms, it seems no one was disappointed. I'd definitely do this again and would think of this place when in Brooklyn. read more

WOW. A ton of horror themed escape rooms?! All over the NYC area? Where do I sign up? Oh, right - Komnata Quest. We decided to try the Brooklyn location. They seemed to have the most rooms that we were after. Keep in mind that they are located in a basement, which just adds to the fun. We signed up for Suicide Hotel since 1408 is a great horror movie. The room itself was so well thought out and put together. We were all very impressed. It's safe to say that I was scared sh*tless. Once we escaped Suicide Hotel, we decided to book The City of Ashes for 40 minutes later, as I LOVE Silent Hill games and movies. They also named this as their "scariest" room, which I would now say is not the case - 1408 may have scared me a bit more. Regardless, we loved this room too. Such a bone-chilling environment, great use of space, and very calculated timing for some of their more "lively" props. Both rooms exceeded expectations of everyone in my group. With that being said, unless I was close by to a Komnata Quest, I probably wouldn't venture the 1 hour (without traffic) again. The actual escape game itself wasn't worth the travel hassle. But the actual rooms and themes themselves? Worth every cent. 4 stars (I wish I could do 4.5) are being awarded due to the following: - One or two of the things we needed to solve were slightly faulty. - The clue master kept chiming in with hints when they weren't wanted. - No one knows the difficulty levels of any of the 8 rooms. It's all just "eh, I dunno, it depends". - This is not a traditional escape room. There's limited locks to crack and few puzzles to solve. - We escaped both rooms in 34min. I'm used to nearing the 50min mark. For $38/pp... hmmm. We're good at these, but shouldn't be THAT good. read more

The #1 reason I keep coming to Komnata is because every booking is private, without your having to buy out the room. If you want to do a room with a friend or two and don't want to get paired with strangers, this is your place! That's hard to find. I also know I'm going to get a more immersive experience than other places--Komnata does a great job of that. In total, I've done about 30 escape rooms, and that includes 5 at this location. Having so many rooms, each with a different feel, has made it easy to cater to the different kinds of groups I've brought. For instance, one time I brought a teen who wasn't super into puzzles, and The Robbery That Changed the World was a great fit. Another time my wife and I did a date night, and Chinese Jewelry Box was a great fit for that. My friend who's more adventurous did Boxed Up and 7 Sinful Pleasures with me, and they were definitely more intense experiences. I see there have been complaints about staff on the reviews here, and I'd have to say that it has been up and down for me as well at this Kent St location. I've had a few staff who are aloof and seem too busy to cluemaster our game. But then there have been some who were really friendly and helpful and made it a good experience for us--Gabby (or Abby?), for one. In terms of the rooms, Dr Frankenstein was probably my favorite. The set design has a steampunk feel that is really well designed. The puzzles get more challenging, which I like. Chinese Jewelry Box I did with my wife who doesn't do many rooms, and we both really enjoyed it. It's more about finding objects hidden around, and taking in the beautiful set. 7 Sinful Pleasures was a lot of fun, and funny. It definitely pushed our comfort zones, and we had a good laugh about it afterwards. Don't bring the kids for this one. Boxed Up was the room I picked when I had already done a number of rooms and wanted a more extreme experience. The handcuffs went on and the bag went over my head, and that was when I knew I had signed up for something crazy. In a good way! The coffins are extra-large so I could actually sit up inside, which made it a lot less claustrophobia-inducing. It does get hot inside there, though, so be ready for that. I thought it was really clever how every puzzle forces you and your teammate to work together, even though you are in two separate coffins. The two things that made it harder to enjoy is that one of the devices didn't work very well, though we did get manage to get through it. Also, there was no "panic button" for us to escape if we needed to, and it seemed like it would be a few minutes for the cluemaster to come let us out should we need him to. Not for the faint of heart! The Robbery That Changed the World was light on puzzles and just a really fun adventure. It was great for my friend who was looking for a room like that. Overall, I've really enjoyed my Komnata experiences, and I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the rooms! read more

First time doing an escape room, we booked a party of three and were quickly confirmed. Finding the place was a bit tricky but the game masters were friendly and instructive in helping us. We booked the Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box, and it was amazing! From the informative rules overview to the immersion and theme, we loved every minute of it. If you get stuck, the game masters will give you hints. The tech was super cool inside and it was exciting solving the puzzles to get to the next step. We won with minutes to spare. The building does have a mini cooler with refreshments for purchase if desired. read more

My husband and I loooove escape rooms. When planning my birthday trip to New York, that was one thing that we just had to do. If the ones here in Richmond were good, we figured the New York escape rooms would knock our socks off. It did. What attracted me to this escape room out of all the others was the fact that they don't put strangers together! God bless. We've always had to purchase tickets for the entire room whenever we've done escape rooms in the past because the idea of doing something like that with a stranger just doesn't scream "fun" to us. We prefer to be locked in small spaces with people we know. After looking through the Yelp reviews, we did the Frankenstein room. The consensus was that this room was the most challenging and the best looking room. It was definitely very well done. Not giving away anything here, but we absolutely would have escaped if A) The locks had been more intuitive and B) We got to use our entire 60 minutes. The one thing that blows me about our experience is that due to ungodly tunnel traffic, we got there right at our start time. We had to sign a bunch of things, walk outside around the corner to another building, then listen to his spiel about the room before we could start. That easily shaved off about 15 min of our time. Can't be mad at them about that though. I'm just mad at the world. Things happen. Traffic happens. Overall, everything that the business could control went off without a hitch. 5/5 WOW! If you're unfamiliar with escape rooms I've decided to preface all my escape room reviews with a little tidbit to provide context to how my reviews are written. Escape rooms are considered to be a group activity in which you and a group of others are locked in a room and have to figure out how to "escape". The riddles and clues may be different for each business you visit, as well as the technology and creativity put into their establishment. I base my reviews on the entire experience, the creativity behind the room, ease of escape, immersive-ness, and the interaction with the game master. The rules are pretty straight forward at each place. They'll let you know what is definitely not a clue, they will tell you what not to touch/do and how to contact them (game master) usually via a walkie talkie or sometimes a TV screen that they type on. What I just mentioned, your game master, is the person you and your team will be in contact with during the duration of your game. They'll be watching you from security cameras, which are inputted in every business you'll come across so that they can help you and ensure you don't break/steal any of their items. ----------------------------------------------------- So why is Komnata amazing? The better question is what about it is NOT amazing? Location: It's located out in west Brooklyn. I hope I'm writing that correctly.... You'll find this place at the end of a street next to Toby's Coffee, amazing place as well. Take the black steps down and you'll be greeted by a couple of friendly faces in a dimly lit room. Initial process: They'll have you sign a waiver and check in before getting down to the nitty gritty. Also they're strict about locking up stuff, which I like. We've discovered that the BEST escape room places require you to lock up phones to ensure you don't take photos. It's kind of how you know it's gonna be good. Game masters: Our game masters were great for both of the escape rooms we did! We like when our game masters provide genuine enthusiasm, it creates a much better experience in my opinion, than when the game masters come across as apathetic. This is a very subjective statement, but I feel like it gets you into the mood when the people working there are just as into it as you are. The rooms: Robbery & Sinful Pleasures The Robbery escape room we did was hands down the greatest experience we had in all our 11 escape rooms. We weren't really sure what to expect, but you will be blown away by this experience. It is nothing like you will ever encounter anywhere else (at least to my knowledge). The attention to detail, the ability to create an experience that makes you think, move and interact was done so effectively that I walked out of the establishment with two different props on! When we went back in to return these accidentally stolen props they all laughed. I can't give anything away, but one thing I will say if you're doing the robbery, use what they give you in the beginning. There are some useful props provided almost immediately and you may think to yourself "why would we use these?". Do it. It may not make sense initially, but I decided to do so and my friend didn't and he regretted it later on. I know this is ambiguous but you'll catch on when you do the room. Also the technology in this room is out of bounds, seriously. We initially thought the place in D.C Escape Room Live had been our favorite, but this had everything and more. We would probably do this room again, just because we loved it so much. The second room we did was the sinful pleasures, which is a hard 18+ room. If you're doing this with acquaintances or a new date or family, I suggest you don't. Do this with a spouse, a best friend you can laugh with or friends you're really comfortable with. It is called sinful pleasures for a reason, HEED THE WARNING. I mean if you're thinking about how bad it could be, think like 50 shades of grey, but escape room style. Overall: We loved it. I could go on and on about how amazing this experience was, but I think you'll have to come here and see it for yourself. There's horror themed, kid themed, and some that are in production now. Look at the prices as well, for 2 people it's 33 instead of 28 because they're all private experiences. You won't share with anyone else, which I liked. Sinful pleasures I'd feel comfortable with maybe one more if not two, but the robbery I definitely enjoyed only having me and one other person simply because of the design of the escape room. You will not enjoy it if you bring a big group I am almost certain. Wonderful experiences here! Komnata Quest stands out from the crowd of companies offering these games here in NYC. While most companies I've been to put the emphasis on the puzzles and are fun, I've not been too impressed with the general look and feel. At Komnata you get the best of both worlds - great logic games as well as a great atmosphere. The rooms at Komnata make you feel that you're stepping into another world. Unlike other companies, Komnata allows you to do rooms with smaller groups, and without strangers for a slight increase in cost per person. So far I've tried the following games at their Greenpoint location: Chinese Jewelry Box, Frankestein, 7 Sinful Pleasure, and the Robbery. Each room blew me away aesthetically. They clearly put a lot of time, energy, and cash into the room design to bring you a truly distinct and enjoyable experience in each of their games. For those interested, I will list each game I've tried in a few ways (difficulty, personal preference, and finally aesthetic appeal). Note: I completed each game before the time limit, and in a group of 2: Difficulty (most to least diffcult): Frankenstein 7 Sinful Pleasures Robbery & Chinese Jewelry box Personal Preference (Note: I really enjoyed all these games, but some more than others): Frankenstein 7 Sinful Chinese Jewelry Box Robbery Aesthetics (Again, all rooms were pretty impressive): Frankenstein Chinese Jewelry Box 7 Sinful Robbery PS: Once you complete a room they offered us 20% off another booking if we scheduled it for that night. Also, they do pop up on Groupon now and again for anywhere to 20-40% various rooms and group sizes. Also, if you have to change the appointment you can do so 24 hours in advance without any penalty. PPS: Staff is super friendly and patient. If you have any questions, or want their opinion about rooms to try based on your past experiences, of if you have never done it before they will point you in the right direction.
