My review will be as a first time escape room participant, all other rooms I do will be judged by this one! I'm going to start with a small negative, this is in a weird location, we had to ask a random person inside to let us pass through a building to get there. Now the positive stuff! First, I liked that the rooms were thematic, I guess going into this I just pictured one big room with obscure paper clues and lock boxes. It was much better than that. The puzzles were challenging but not so difficult you'd say 'Man no one with get that.'. We did the Joker (of Batman universe) room and really had a blast! At the end I really liked that they could recap with you, like we did something by mistake, that worked. Then telling us that made the experience that much deeper! Staff was super friendly, and I particularly liked the We Won options. Honestly we're going to make the trip again from PA to try their other location. read more

Took my wife and our friends out here for her birthday and chose to do City of Ashes. I did not tell any of them where we was going or what to expect. Oh did it live up more than I had expected that in turn it got me too in a way. Done so many escape rooms and I'll say this was very interactive and well done and designed. This. Place. Was. Amazing!!!!! Went for the Suicide Hotel room which is a play off the Stephen King movie 1408. This is probably one of my favorite horror movies so I had very high expectations. They did not let me down. Such an interactive room. Everything decorated down to the tiniest detail, I LOVED the Easter egg nods to the movie that they put in the room. It was creepy, challenging, and the best part was that we escaped! So I was able to see all parts to this room before leaving. Booked a second room when we left. Can't wait to go back!! Suicide Hotel room= Amazing! Very detailed with 1408 Easter eggs everywhere. Escaped. 7 Sinful Pleasures= Hysterical and fun. Escaped. Saint Angelo's Castle= Not my favorite of their rooms thus far. Seemed far less interactive than the previous rooms, not as many puzzles to get out, distracted/inattentive game master, super dark leading to frustration and wasted time. Escaped. **One major complaint of this place: the hints. It seems to take forever to get the attention of the people who are supposed to be watching your game progression. We tried to contact the game master during Saint Angelo's Castle so many times. After no recognition, and then calling out only to realize there was no audio for her to hear us, we resorted to waving our arms around in front of the camera to get any sort of attention. The hints are also not hints in this room, they're merely canned pre-recorded responses. Every time we requested a hint, a recording would come on telling us to do something we had already figured out. Amazing, totally immersive themed rooms, great game masters, and exciting puzzles! I've done almost all the rooms with varying group sizes - with 2 people, 3 people, 4 people, and mixes of escape room newbies and veterans. Everyone always has a fantastic time and this is the top of my escape room recommendations when friends are looking. A little on the rooms: St. Angelo's castle can be a little creepy, but was solvable (just in time!) with only 2 of us working at a quick pace and asking for hints when we got stuck. This this would be an excellent room for more people as well. The way this room started was my favorite of all the rooms. The Jewelry Box was perfect for 2 veterans and 2 newbies in our group because the puzzles felt a little more geared to players with mixed skill levels. There were no spooky or creepy elements to this room. Frankenstein also was geared towards mixed skill levels, perhaps a little harder, and was not spooky or creepy either. The Haunted Room was so creepy that our group of 3 made it out fairly quickly - nothing like a good scare to make the puzzles get solved NOW. It was also one of my favorites because of how exhilarating the spooky pressure was! The Casino Room was SO hard. We tried with 2 veterans and 2 newbies, and still had a fair bit to go at the end. The theming on this rooms was my favorite of all the rooms because it was just. so. explorable! I was blown away the entire time. My only complaint is that I'm running out of rooms! read more

Let me start off by saying the walkie talkie communication makes me nervous because previous times my game master would ignore or just plain delay reaction times. Charlie however was a 5 star game master. This was my 11th time at Komnata. Again, I'm reporting about the lack of fucks given about how many times you've frequented the place- you're just a number not meant to be accomodated specifically when you ask for leniency on hot sales tho. I got coupons for big teams in bullets and jokers cafe 20%off but I've done them already. I want to finish doing alllll the rooms. 5 stars for feeling of immersion and 3 stars for tech involved because our last puzzle we had to tell the game master was broken and not leading to the desired result. We got our pic at the end as requested no hassle and this time we were offered to use our own phone to take a pic I'm assuming to offset the lag the staff takes to get pics posted same day. Now let me tell you about St. Angelo's castle that I did 2 months ago. I did it on a friday with one other person- definitely felt like we asked for clues with no response like we weren't being paid attention to to the point that I was getting annoyed with the green haired girl. No heat in the rooms so on a cold day, dress warm!!! And when youre asked whos the biggest sinner out of the group, dont volunteer if you have any neck or back problems. Thats all ill say. Secondly, we weren't offered to get props from the room to take our picture after, nor was I offered a hot sale after. Potentially because I had already had another booking on Monday for 8 people but still, I typically take advantage of the 20% off and book for future date with the intention to solidify a date in the future. Pictures were taken, posted up same day. St. Angelo had some jagged nails sticking out and I got a couple of splinters from feeling around some wooden pieces and that in itself was a bit alarming but nothing to cry about. Monday comes to do bullets and broken hearts room, had same feeling we were being ignored specifically because we helped a girl scale the cage we were in to find clues (which is forbidden don't do it) but when I asked for a clue, the green haired girl was like- how did she get out??. Which then just proved to me she wasn't watching us. We helped the girl scale the wall a SECOND time and then again asked for a clue, and again the green haired girl said- wait how did she get out again?? Anywho I love the rooms, I'll finish this warehouse out but I'd appreciate some appreciation for loyalty to this place and flexibility with the 20%hotsale for people who have proven they will come back and refer friends. We had a great time. This was my second escape room with our grandkids, a girl aged 10 and a boy aged 12. We went to 104 West St location and played the Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box. Jeffrey was our key master. He was terrific - gave us clues that helped nudge us along while still making us work out the solutions. We called ahead to say that, due to traffic we were delayed by half an hour. He was accommodating, given that no one was booked for the slot immediately after us. The final puzzle was difficult - we didn't solve it within the hour - and I think would be challenging and fun for persons of all ages. We certainly enjoyed ourselves! read more

Went here for a friends birthday and did the joker room. The overall was somewhat challenging but we made it out with a lot of time to spare. The staff on site were friendly. Only issue is that they have 2 locations which are a block away from each other so most of us went to the other location first as that was the address listed. Overall fun though. read more

I had made a reservation and since we were running late to unexpected traffic, I called Komnata. whoever picked up the phone said don't worry about it, the room time will start once me and my group will get there since we had it all to ourselves. We got there 15 min late and got into the room and instead of the hour, we got half an hour which was very unexpected. BEWARE. There are plenty of other fantastic escape rooms in the city that are not Komnata. Chose em. Don't waste your time here. Nevermind that this was my birthday and it kinda made the whole day a bit more sour. The staff was not helpful. And rude. read more

We had a GREAT time! My boyfriend and I did Saint Angelo's Castle and it was properly terrifying. From the props to the music. He and I have done our fair share of escape the rooms and we have really great team work and this room had us stumped a few times. Dylan our Keymaster was great. It seemed so creepy I loved it!!! We were a group of 5 and so excited to start. We were given a little history lesson and instructions on what to do. Oh, KOMNATA means Room in Russian... Cool! I don't want to give away so much away but this is a beginners level and it was challenging. Oh my gosh, if this is for starters and we finished with 2 mins to spare, I can only imagine the other rooms. So much fun and something I've never done before. Easily the absolute worst escape the room experience I've ever had. Were did a 6 person room... unfortunately they put 10 people in the room. One of the people with us took full advantage of the unlimited clues.... and was super impressed that we got out so quickly... seriously, the last time he asked for a clue, they replied "we're all out of clues". I love escape the rooms... or at least I used to. Update: the owner suggested I get one of their private rooms to avoid overcrowding. I was a big fan after my first two experiences at this location. Unfortunately perception is reality and my perception has been tainted. Walking out of my first experience they offer you a "hot sale" if you book before you leave and are even told you don't have to know when you want to come, you just have to pay before you leave. Okay, awesome! I'm an escape room enthusiast so this was a no brainer! Fast forward to today where I received a phone call stating I had an experience booked and wondering when I was going to show up with my team. Ummmmm had no intention of showing up because I hadn't confirmed a date. Speaking to Chester, I told him I booked at hot sale and wasn't expecting to do the room today. Chester says, no problem there's no one booked after you so how soon can you arrive? Well I would need to contact my team and call you back. Calling back I reached Alenna and told her my team could be there in 90 minutes. She tells me there isn't same day changes accepted and since I was a no call, no show I forfeit my money. Wow! Your phone lines are recorded and you have an employee telling me I can come in because there are no more bookings for the room all evening. Don't go visit Komnata Quest. They are inconsistent with their messaging and are in no way lenient when one of their employees was in the wrong. read more

I see it necessary to inform all you fellow yelpers prior to my review that I am a professional wizard and an aficionado of paranormal demons, goblins, and ghouls. That being said, I was still tested. As I found myself chained like an early non willing peasant in the dark chambers of hell (St Angelos Castle) I swore to beloved star gazer that I would not follow the fate of so many before me, in death. Together with my fellow team, a young boy Ricky, son of Anthony, first of his name, and a fair young bar wench named Christen, we put our noggins together and methodically made our way room to room. I may have been scared, I may have bent, but was never broken. Chills up my spine, sounds and movements in the darkness, we used teamwork to set ourselves free, and start a new life away from slavery. Conclusion: A must visit. read more

Thanks to all the other Yelpers, I was able to choose Komnata as my very first escape room. I went with a mixed group that had first timers and escape room game veterans. Some clues came to us almost instantly and other clues took some time to figure out. We still managed to escape with almost half of the allotted game time remaining so that makes me pretty excited to try out the other rooms. The darkness of the waiting area definitely set the mood and we were creeped out before the game even began. If you are scared of the dark, St Angelo's is not the game for you. Chris was really awesome though and asked if any of us were claustrophobic or afraid of the dark before he threw us in as prisoners. Great job Komnata Quest!! read more

pay $35 to be locked in a room with your friends and then solve puzzles to escape? stop, I can only get so many thrills - and it certainly beats doing laundry, which is usually what I am doing on 9 out of 10 Friday nights. I forgot to review this location of Komnata when I came here a few months ago. when we did the Joker room back in April, the room was not reset properly and there were props/triggers that were malfunctioning, so while we did technically beat the room, it just was not satisfying. however, returned this past week to do the Saint Angelo's Castle room and it was, to my relief, run quite well. challenging and immersive with the theme. the other half of our group did the Sin City room, and they also had a blast. game masters Chris and Kyle were very helpful and professional. one thing that I do like about Komnata is that they ask you to remove phones, watches, etc so you don't have a method of knowing how long you've spent on puzzles. it adds to the difficulty. don't worry, they securely lock your personal items in a trunk, and it's great to get a break from having your damn phone on you at all times. read more

While I've never been to another escape room, it's hard to imagine it gets better than this. Between the mildly terrifying/thrilling start of the Saint Angelo's room (think medieval monk robes and being locked in cells), to the overwhelming feeling of triumph in the end once we escaped (I think the mojo of the monk robes helped us along)- myself and my group had nothing but the best things to say about our experience! Infinite kudos to Kyle for guiding us through the experience is a truly fun, pleasurable, and professional way. Highly recommend this as a Monday ritual! Though any day should do as well. read more

The adventure begins when you find the correct building. Although difficult to find, it kind of builds to the ambience of the place. A group of three or more venture solo, and try to escape a prison that the mad scientist failed, but a jeweler succeeded. Venturing with your group of friend is fun. The multiple rooms and clever puzzles were great! I'm not gonna lie, I definitely yelled at my friends when I thought they were hindering my success. The puzzles really bring out your competitive side. I'd recommend this place to any group looking for a challenging brain teaser. Don't worry, though, if you really struggle there is an omnipotent voice that can help you out. read more

My partner and I tried out Komnata Quest after I read many reviews and heard many unique things about how this studio did their rooms. I gotta say that I was amazed, and really hope I can do more in the future! We did the "Saint Angelo's Castle" room, which actually had great historical significance and some interesting trivia that our host graciously bestowed on us. The immersion factor is top-notch. I don't want to spoil anything, but be prepared to really get into the aspects of being in the times of the Inquisition. The ambience, environment, and subtle nuances were perfect, and constructed near-flawlessly. The room comfortably fits four people, though two or three people might have a bit more fun. :) It's also DARK. And while this could be construed as an detriment to gameplay, it actually adds to the ambience and immersion factor. A silly oversight in the beginning frustrated us for a bit, but careful exploration made things easier, as did lots of teamwork, communication, resourcefulness, and above all, PATIENCE. Seriously, the room proves how important it is to take your time and be careful in what you do! Lots of interesting little mechanics to the room that made it more fun and interesting, and our host was generous in giving hints. One or two puzzles weren't QUITE clear....but we figured them out with a push in the right direction. Komnata Quest's other rooms are equally unique, though I hear that they aren't for the faint of heart! "7 Sinful Pleasures" is a bit R-rated (or so I've heard...do research first!), and "The Impossible Murder Mystery" is VERY INTENSELY SCARY (or again, so I've heard!). So go to Komnata Quest if you're looking for something that no other studio does--they do it all so well! This room escape mission was awesome and totally worth it. We came across it on Yelp and saw that it was in our LIC neighborhood. Seemed like a win-win for our group of friends. We were a group of 5, which is the max size for this room. It was pretty challenging but we were able to escape with about 13 minutes left - team work makes the dream work! I can definitely see us struggling a bit more if we had a smaller group. Konstantine was taking care of us and helped make it such a great experience. He filled us in on the backstory behind the room and really kicked off the whole interactive experience for us. He also gave us the right amount of hints to keep us going throughout. Overall, we all had a blast and agreed its one of the more fun room escapes we've done. We loved how immersed we felt in the entire experience and can't wait to try out more rooms at their Greenpoint location! read more

The first time I went two months ago with a Groupon. My party was kept waiting for an inordinate time while they searched for a missing clue to Suicide Hotel. Eventually they gave up and told us we would have to reschedule. I asked whether they could just put us in another room instead, and they said no, the Groupon was specific to that room, but they could let us do another room at a 40% discount. I agreed because it is difficult to get everyone in my group together and Greenpoint is way out of the way for all of us. So even with the discount, I still paid more than the Groupon had cost. We were placed into the Chinese Jewelry Box, and it was beautifully done. They decorations are nice, the puzzles were interesting and the story line was unique. We managed to escape with a lot of time to spare, but didn't feel it was overly easy. I rescheduled the Suicide Hotel for last month and had a different group of people. Two of us arrived 35 minutes early only to find a sign saying that the stairs were under repair and could not be used temporarily. The rest of my party were already inside and could not leave. We had to wait outside for 45 minutes for the stair to he repaired in order to get in. Once inside, the workers took about 15 minutes to prepare the room. Then we were told we had to hurry up to start because there was a group right after us. That was a bit annoying. Without spoiling the puzzles, let me say that we solved one in an outside the box manner which messed up the sequence. The room must be solved in a linear manner or things get confused. The games master very rudely yelled over the Walkie talkie to forget everything else in that room because we had messed up and gone out of order. Really??? We solved your puzzle in an ingenious way that you didn't anticipate and you chide us for that??? Things went downhill from there. We figured out the bathroom puzzle in all of three seconds. However, the steps we took did not trigger the next event. Every single one of us tried, and nothing. We radioed the game master and told him the steps, and he acknowledged that we were correct but that we weren't turning the faucets a full 360 degrees. All of us were sure we had done so, but we did it one more time and the next event popped open. That was the second prop that didn't work properly. There was a briefcase with a rusty clasp that wouldn't open and the game master was yelling at us because he thought we weren't doing it right. Again, without giving anything away, I figured out that someone had to put their arm into a funnel in the last room. thought there might be a button or key in there. Just then an alarm went off and announcement made that we were out of time! Couldn't be! There was no countdown clock and our watches had to be locked in a box. But I knew it was no whole hour! The game master lied to us and said it was a whole hour and we had to leave because the next group was there. I was not about to leave until I found out the secret. So, turns out I was right about the hand, and I told him that's what we had done and he said he didn't see it so we must not have done it long enough, because he pushes the button when he sees it. Aha! That explains why we got stuck in the bathroom so long - the game master was nodding off and didn't push the freaking button! So we were rushed out of the room, we spent a few minutes taking a picture, spent another minute dodging the high pressure sales tactics to get us to sign up for another room right now for 20% off, spent another minute or two unlocking the box and retrieving the box, and guess what time it turned out to be??? Only 35 minutes past the time we locked up our stuff! They cheated us!!! They docked our time due to their repair of the stairs which was no fault of mine!!! So congrats Komnata - I didn't think it was possible but you just beat SOS for worst escape experience in NYC! read more

If you tired of the dinners and bars, and craving for the exciting new experiences, Komnata Quest is what you are looking for. Five of us went to the "7 Sinful Pleasures" room. Whoa! So much fun. And yes, it's not easy to unlock every room inside. You really need a group effort to exit them on time. I don't want to disclose the details to keep it as unexpected secret so you will experience it yourself. It's sexy, fun and intriguing. Keep your mind open, focus on details and listen carefully what the video says. We didn't make it till the end lol. I really want to try it again. My sport interest has to be fulfilled. Young team of organizers are very nice guys. Warm welcoming and big help to you in the room. There are two more rooms I want to explore. It's endless fun and awesome memories. read more

We came here with a group of 5. We were successful in escaping "Saint Angelo's Castle" prison in 40mins. We had a blast from the beginning to the end. It was great that we got to wear robe costume which really helped enhance the mood and with the spooky music in background. Also, the host was very welcoming and friendly. We didn't get his name but he was great and chatted with us afterward. This by far the best escape room we have done. I definitely recommend this place to everyone. read more

Went here with 2 other friends (LIC) and by far Komnata Quest holds my personal top spot for this type of escape game. The story is really detailed and you're really immersed in it. The puzzles are also more challenging than the typical lock-and-key which I absolutely love. Very creative problem solving invomved and they also get 10/10 for decor. Can't wait to try their newer rooms in Brooklyn! Also talked to the one of the owners for a little while and they are so passionate about making this experience more unique than others. The only downside is that all other escape games in the future will pale in comparison. read more

What a blast!! Took my sister and friends here for her bachelorette party and had a crazy good time escaping The Joker's Cafe. We found it really challenging while still being fun, and our gamemaster Kyle was super friendly, helpful, and gave hints whenever we got stuck and requested them. It's spooky and dark, which the bride-to-be-loves (huge horror AND Batman fan), so it was right up her alley. We solved the room with 8 minutes to spare. The best escape room location hands down! After reading some great reviews my husband and I headed there on a friday night. We did the robbery room. It was outstanding. I won't give you any details or it will room it but I will say you felt like you were on a heist. When we were leaving they offered a discount of 20% so we decided go for another room. We tried Frankenstein since this one was supposedly the hardest. It definitely was way more challenging. We booked the city of ashes room for another time before we left. That one is their scariest one and we saw a group heading into the room as we were leaving and they were being blindfolded! I am not sure which of the 2 we did I like better since they were both unique in their own way. Definitely recommend! Its a little pricey but way worth it over a generic escape room elsewhere. read more

My daughter, her friend, and I booked the Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box and had a blast! We drove over and because of the long holiday weekend we were able to find street parking. The building is in an office building so walking up the stairs in an empty building lent itself to the ambiance. We were looking for something less scary and more kid-friendly and this escape room was perfect for us. They also provided an unlimited amount of hints which we ended up using quite a bit. The game master was warm and attentive and the facilities were clean. I highly recommend for families. read more
