Random find but so happy we used Yelp! to discover Brookland Eats. The atmosphere of this restaurant is quaint and obviously a local gathering place. Main dining room was clean and tables just far enough apart to not have to listen to your neighbors conversations (but ask what they were having as every plate looked fabulous!). Highly recommend both crab stuffed mushrooms and the fried green tomatoes. We will return in August for an evening with friends and many times afterwards. read more

I ordered my burger with chips not knowing they were fresh made in house - what a treat , best chips ever . Staff very friendly . I loved the decor . This was my first time being at Brookland Eats in Roxboro, NC! With all due respect, I didn't expect to find such a classy-type place in such a rural area but I'm glad that it's there! I came here for a rehearsal dinner the night before my buddy's wedding. We arrived at 6 p.m. for cocktail hour and hors d'oeuvres and it was a great hour! The bartender kept the drinks flowing and there were coconut shrimp, bruschetta, and bbq egg rolls being walked around to the guests. After cocktail hour, we were ushered into the main dining room with the party and the servers took our orders. I will say the service wasn't the quickest I'd ever experienced, but then again some of the best meals I've had have been the longest and besides, the entire staff there was extremely pleasant throughout the night. The caesar salad I started off with was dressed nicely and you could taste a little bit of lemon with each bite. It came with brioche croutons that I wasn't a huge fan of but everyone else seemed to really enjoy. For my entree I ordered the filet mignon. It was cooked to a nice medium rare and placed on top of grilled asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. Everything on the plate was great! To end things, I ordered the banana nut bread pudding. It came out of the kitchen piping hot with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top. It was a great ending to a great meal. If you're ever coming through Roxboro and you've got some time to sit down to a nice meal, I'd definitely recommend giving Brookland Eats a try! read more

Pecan shrimp was great! Ribeye steak dinner with hash did not have any flavor and meat was a bit tough. They comped some of the bill. Service was very nice and atmosphere was lovely. Maybe I just came in off day. All servers and manger was nice. Just wish my steak dinner was better. I really was excited to try this place / first time customers. I will preface my post with the fact that Brookland Eats is a gem in Roxboro, NC! The food is excellent. Although the menu is not expansive, there are some creative dishes including hush puppies with pimento cheese and shrimp and grits that can rival those made in Charleston, SC. I feel certain that most everyone could find something on the menu to enjoy. While I would like to give a five start rating I cannot due to the initial wait to be seated and the bartending service. I recognize that COVID continues to have an impact, but this was not the case last night. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated. Typically this is not an issue, but when three different wait staff look your way and do not acknowledge your presence, that is a problem. Simply inform us that it will be a few minutes and the problem would be resolved. (Note, it was moderately busy, but not slammed with guests.) Once we were seated, we placed our drink order. We ordered the local beer 525 Amber Beer from Oxford, NC and a glass of wine. The beer came in a can. Again, we waited and waited to get our drinks. Another 10 minutes... I was able to glance over to the bar area, it appeared that the bartender forgot our order. How hard is it to open a can of beer and pour a glass of wine? It seems pretty hard as she barely poured a serving of wine. When asked if I would like another glass of wine, I quickly declined because I did not want to pay $10.00 for another three ounces. Come on folks, this is Roxboro, NC not Raleigh or Charlotte. On a positive note, the drink menu contains some nice wines and beers. Simply train the bartender how to uncork a bottle of wine and pour a standard serving. Regarding the food, it was excellent. The kitchen staff is efficient and they know how to cook! We enjoyed a burger and steak sandwich. Stefanie was our waitstaff and she was incredible. She apologized profusely for the bartender which was not necessary. Why should she have to take on the mistakes of others? I do plan to return in the near future for the food, but have reservations about ordering a glass of wine. My in-laws live in Roxboro so my wife and I have eaten here 5 or 6 times, both for dinner and brunch. Overall only a couple things have been completely gross and most things are decent. Brunch stuff: their French toast was fine though the bacon was obviously of the cheapest ilk possible (shriveled and too much fat). The croque monseiur was ok though it tasted like it had country ham and cheddar cheese in it which basically just makes it a grilled ham and cheese. Also had the Cobb salad which was pretty good though no avocado nor blue cheese and lots of black eyed peas which basically makes it not a Cobb salad. Dinner was more mixed results. The burger is definitely made from low quality beef and both times came out well done despite orders to the contrary. The buffalo chicken sandwich was much better though it did have too much ranch on it. But by far the worst thing I've had here is the shrimp and grits -- the shrimp were the industrially raised tiny weird tasting ones and they weren't even warm. Totally disgusting. If you have to eat in Roxboro, I would suggest La Cocina or Morristown BBQ or even Vesuvios' pizza over this place read more

While here on business, I came here for a quick lunch. I ordered the deviled eggs appetizers which were yummy and a strawberry and goat cheese salad. Everything was super fresh and greet for a late lunch. I wish I had had room for dessert. The restaurant is in a cute little two rooms with very nice decorations. The menu was not too expansive but had lots of choices for a broad range of people. I would definitely choose to come again! read more

If I could give this place -0- stars I would... This place single handedly represents racism in the south in all it's ugly glory. Where to begin. We were directed to this restaurant after a glowing review after our tasting at Rock of Ages winery for my wife's birthday. We were very excited to come eat here and there was a group of about ten of us. My wife and I entered the restaurant and figured there might be a little bit of a wait since we were a large group and it was around dinner time. The bartender told us it would be about ten minutes since the dining area wasn't really full and they just needed to get two tables together. Then the rest of our group came in and that's when everything went to hell and back. Two of my wife's close friends are married to African American gentleman who happen to be two of my best friends. Immediately when they walked in I could feel the angst and the bar tender made it a point to tell us that she had misspoke and said the wait would 45 minutes to an hour, which was curious since the restaurant was no where near slammed and a group of 8 people who were all white came in and were immediately seated. My wife and her girlfriends then went on to wait about 35 minutes to cash out for their 1 beer since the bar tender was refusing to serve them conveniently after their husbands came in. Not to mention there was only two other people at the bar besides us. Guests were looking at us like we had six heads in the dining area and the lady eating a chicken Caesar rap at the bar was so uncomfortable she got up and moved because apparently, she feared for her well being. When my wife and her girlfriends were finally able to cash out we immediately headed back to the Brier Creek area since people there welcome diversity and no longer live in the 1800's. It's 2016, there should be no place for this kind of behavior and honestly, as a white male, I am ashamed to have to be guilty by association of this kind of behavior. So if you want to go eat somewhere that values racism, and not serving people based on their skin color, by all means come to Brookland Eats, they serve ignorance daily. read more

The map is definitely not the way to get here ..it had us a mile past the restaurant! Look for the intersections of old Durham rd and Allensville roads ( across the road from Mastec's property. It is a brick building with a small sign over the door! A hidden gem, all the reviews are true! The pimento hush puppies are wonderful! Once the food arrives its good, i would rate the food 3 1/2 stars & service 1 star hence the cumulative 2 star rating. Both times the waitress was easily stumped by simple questions, just seems no one out on the floor is experienced, knowledgable or understand timing of when to visit or not visit the table. I decided to stop here on a Sunday at about 12:30. On Sunday's they offer a limited "Sunday Brunch Menu" so while I was looking forward to scarfing a burger and fries, the only option was an Angus Burger served with chips. I decided to change direction and order the Shrimp and Grits with a side of Collards. The wait staff was friendly and the food took about 10 minutes to arrive. The shrimp and grits were very good. The bacon gravy and cheddar grits were flavorful, creamy, and didn't over power the taste of the shrimp. The collards were very simple with little seasoning and barely warm. I'm a collard freak and love them tender but not boiled to a mush. These were a bit undercooked. All in all it was a decent meal. I'd love to come back for a Burger or Steak and give them another shot. read more

Tried Brookland Eats tonight based on the recommendation of a coworker as well as that of the hostess at my hotel. The restaurant is quite cozy and has really nice ambience when you walk in. You immediately feel comfortable. For an appetizer I had the Carolina crabcake it was pretty good, but wasn't as warm as I thought it should be it was a little on the cool side. For my entrée though I had grilled salmon, fried green beans, and tomato risotto. Absolutely DELICIOUS!!It was cooked perfectly and displayed pleasantly. The staff working was very friendly and helpful and very attentive to my needs. Definitely recommend and would definitely return for another visit! read more

I have eaten at this restaurant several times and enjoy the location and the atmosphere. It is one of the few non-fast food restaurants in town. The food lacks taste and the steaks are very small portions. I have not tried the hamburgers, but they look like the best for the pricing. The Saturday night kitchen staff appears is mostly young folks, making a lot of noise and not paying attention to proper food preparation and presentation. The crab filled mushrooms we ordered were under cooked, mushrooms were close to raw. The twice baked potato was poorly prepared and did not look like a twice baked, tasted more like instant. The steak small, you will leave hungry unless you fill up on bread. The berry & peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream was very good and salvaged the night. read more

Loved the wood floors and brick walls of this 1905 built former general store/feed store. Next - the server was charming, witty and excellent at her job. The menu is filled with great twists on southern fare. We had pimento cheese hushpuppies with Thai chili sauce and a cool variation on deviled eggs which was all very tasty. For dinner I had seared mahi mahi topped with Creole salsa, a crab cake and fried zucchini. One of my associates raved about his shrimp n grits while another had a grilled portabella with vegetables. The food was all very good and the portions generous. So generous in fact that we all passes on the dessert menu. This restaurant is so atypical of what one would expect of a small town place.
